Well guys its done. Did the long ride with two friends yesterday which took me over the top for the challenge. When is the new cycling thread going to start? We need to keep this gang going and add some more.

Cheers -jiggles Oh yes ate so much after the ride I put on two pounds...back to work I guess. -j

ravenlark, is that metric distance I see being used? I was getting lonely. Was out for a 50k ride on Thursday evening and another 50 today. I'm going on a 200k ride tomorrow( the longest of the season so far) and that will ( should ) wrap up the challenge for me. Thats if everything goes smooth. Like no major mechanicals. -jiggles

Oh. Those tandems. One couple on a tandem two weekends ago, yes they sure can fly. You are all going to have a laugh at this but the day after a long ride I rest and then fast. I eat enough before and during the ride that I'm not feeling that hungry after and have just a normal meal. This usually leaves me a bit low on intake but what the hey... 25k easy spin tonight and a session at the weights. -jiggles

gmule, don't ya just hate it when that happens... its the old wrap the spoke around the others when its on the drive side. Great wife you have. You'll have to mount a truing stand on your desk at work if that keeps up. I was snaping spokes all the time in my heavier life so I had to get all my rear wheels relaced in heavier guage spokes. Fine after that. pozesara, goggle sheila moon and take a look at fashions. -jiggles
Fitness 30-mile bike ride! May 07 2007

I did 100 miles yesterday and 30 the day before. I ate a large breakfast of pancakes, you should eat lots of carbs because thats what the muscles need for cycling and then carry food for eating on the fly. I drank five large 750ml bottles yesterday in cool weather on a 15 mile an hour average. Big steak when I got home for the protein, helps with muscle repair. -jiggles

Hi all. It's my usual monday off. Welcome to the new folks. There is a new saying that I read the other day that states that cycling is the new golf. To address the waterbottle issue here is my two cents. When it comes to road cyclists its a mattter of style over function. If you have noticed a lot of road riders are into styling, latest bikes and gadgets, matching team road kits (cloths) and such. Bicycling Magazine even has a article writen by a guy called the Style-Man. If you want to style on the road then it is two bottles on the bike, large being 750ml. Now heres where the good old cycling jersey comes in. You can put a bottle or two in the two outside pockets of your jersey leaving the middle one for food or whatever. A jersey is not worth the dynamite to blow it to h--- if you can't get a bottle in the pockets.
Function on the other hand gives the hydration pack the nod ( not mentioning names of animals with humps on their backs) very stable and a good quanity of water. One of the advantages of bottles is that you can mix and match power drinks with the things your body needs to replace where as just water cannot fill this need. The last thing to mention to bring this rant to an end is this. Stores. Usually on the road you can come across a store, like I did yesterday on my century. Out in the wilds they are far and few between. Same if you are riding out in the boonies on the road, then the pack is a must. Also when your steering around roots and rocks the last thing you want to be doing is taking your hand off the bar to grab a bottle. For what this was worth... -jiggles Oh yes jc the consumption rate is usually one standart size bottle an hour. Larger 750 bottle if real hot. -j

leinad, sounds like your having as much fun as I am. Went for the century ride today. The weather was really windy but wouldn't you know it, the wind died off when I got back home. The ride is hilly, in fact I don't think there are any flat roads in Nova Scotia. Well I think there was one but it was dicovered and they dumped a load ov gravel on it and paved over it. I rode to the city and when I got there I realized that I was 12k short for 80k at the turn around, so I had to tool around the city untill I had the 80k.

The trip back was windy but uneventfull. It's strange riding that distance by yourself. It's like James Taylor sings... There's nothing like a hundred miles between me and trouble of mind. Someone show me the yellow line. My apology to JT. Have a great week eveyone.

Hey guys, Another 50k today with my buddies. I can't believe what a differece losing 38lbs makes. Today was the first day out with the mountain goat (5'3" 125lbs) on a kilometer long hill I stayed right on his wheel by 2" until about the last 100 yrds. I thought his head was going to screw right off the way he kept turning around to look. Last year he would have handed me my ass about a quarter of the way up... and the season is only getting started and I want to take another 10lbs off.

Yes carri you are most definatly the most knowlegable bike chick ( if I can be so bold as to call you that) that I know. Sorry about the rain. I'm going for the century tomorrow 162k. the weather here is supposed to be good. New chain on my bike this afternoon so I need to break it in tomorrow. -jiggles

Hi guys, no ride today just a workout on the weights. Spent the evening trying to switch over from a PC laptop to a new MacBook. Got into this little problem of trying to remember my IP password, of course it was at work and it is just dots on the machine. As you can tell all worked out.

carri, the bike looks great. I'll try and get a few of my bikes up there. Out for a ride with some friends tomorrow. One is a 125lb mountain goat and when I kill myself trying to catch him the other is a chiropractor, so he can straighten me out. I'm the mechanic of the bunch so they are no good without me. -jiggles

Another 50k to add to the total after work today. Rough ride carri but it seems like you are pretty bike savey. BTW can anyone give me some idea of their average speeds out on their rides and if wearing a hrm what kind of average you are having for the ride. Like what do you average if you are pushing a 20mph average is it something like a 130-140 bpm?

Just wondering how much to pick up my pace and need some comparisons. Thanks. -jiggles

Hi guys- I think the idea of the bike club is right on. I guess that would make it the CCCC or C to the power of four or C4. I don't know how to make the little 4 that goes up there on the right.

I was out for an hour tonight. The weather is still cold here but doing flat out hill repeats cured the coldness problem. Good thing I didn't have supper before I went out or it would still be back there on the hill. Glad your back behanna. Whenever I get the money and some time off I'm going to come down there and do that Brasstown Bald seeing Mt. Washington has a two year waiting list. Besides I just plain like the name. -jiggles

Go with what makes you smile. If you thing you're going to look funny on the road bike then chances are your not going to use it and will feel bad for your friend when they ask you how the biking is going. Like gm said if room for two then take both. I have five bikes (Having a hard time justifiying over four ), that all do different things for me and when I use them for what they are designed for they make me smile and smiling bike riders is what we want.   -jiggles
