thank everyone! My treadmill does not let me enter in my weight and height either, so maybe I should get a heart rate monitor? What is the best way to figure out burned calories? thanks in advance for your help! |

Hello, there! I thought having a diet buddy would be fun as well. i have been at this for over a year and am now at 144 pounds down from 168. I am 43 years old. Yes - it IS tough, but since you have had some weight come off, we both know it can be done. I too love to cook, and like wine too (though in limited quantities) :-) Let me know how it is going for you! April |

bdasko - I could have not said it better. Losing weight is not something that will happen overnight, and neither will the lifestyle changes. I did exactly like you described - just change one little thing at a time. Now I hardly have ANY junk food in the house, and what little there is, my husband and children eat. Getting healthy is a journey - and most of the time to do it right, it DOES take years to do it. Ditch as much processed food as you can, and yes - it is more expensive to eat healthy. Incorporate more spices and different types of food into your diet - it makes a BIG difference!

alisha1183 - I go to Uno's and I order the chicken lettuce wraps. Grilled chicken with little sides of shredded carrot, vermicelli noodles, cucumbers, and peppers. I like this because you can control the amount of the sauce that you eat. You eat the chicken wrapped in a leaf of boston bib (butter) lettuce. 250 calories for all - but you can definitely cut it back by reducing the amount of sauce that you eat. You can read the details on this dish at the Uno's website. It is listed under "big greens" part of menu. |

Heh! I had funny grand parents, and I picked up sayings like: "It's colder than a witches B**b in a brass brassier" or When we thought someone was odd we would say "His cheese has slid off his cracker" or When we or someone in the family would eat something that did not agree with them, my grandpa came up with the saying "I'm going to have the galloping ghoulies tonight"! Ha! Have not thought about that for SO long! Thanks for starting this thread - I loved my PaPa SO much, and it makes me smile to remember him saying these things! :-) |

I have worn Organza Indecence by Givency for years. I LOVE the stuff, and it works like cat nip on the hubby! :-) Unfortunately it is REALLY hard to find, so the dear old husband bought me every bottle he could get his hands on last Christmas! |

I met my hubby 26 years ago by a swimming pool in Arizona. I was minding my own business floating around on a floatie when this guy comes through the pool area checks his mail and hauls butt outta there real quick. Turns out this was my husbands best friend, and he went back and told my hubby he needed to come "check out the girl by the pool". He was looking for a job at the time and was stuffing endless resumes into envelopes. He just told his friend to shut up and help him. :-) We eventually did meet later when he hit a tennis ball over the fence and hit me with it. We spent allot of hours at that pool! :-) |

Last night I made my children cheeseburgers, but I resisted and opted for my morningstar farms griller instead with lowfat cheese and mustard, lettuce and tomato. Did not miss the "real" cheeseburger at all! Oh! And not to mention the chocolate cookies on the counter. :-) |

amyrwellman - yes, I WILL remember. There are still cookies left and they look yucky to me now (thanks for small wonders) :-) Jem599 - I know what you mean! Now how do I go about exterminating the potato chip witch? Maybe I should throw some water on her? Well - the chips at least!! Luckily, I am starting to lose my taste for chips too, but oh.......I LOVE barbecue chips. They are HARD to ignore! I hear them calling now. *GULP*!!!! Back!!! Back I say!!!! Heh! I never thought of it that way, but you are right! I hear tell that cookies that are broken in the package do not have any calories, because the calories "leak" out when the cookies get broken. Ahhhhh.......if only that were true the world might be a happier place! :-) |

Hello Icrum - thanks for the reply. Yes - I have been trying to go by what cc recommends (1200 calories per day). Accounting for the exercise I do, I have been eating around 1400-1600 calories per day. I burn 1700 calories a day being sedentary. Maybe I have too much of a deficit? I am 5 ft. 7 and am 42. I too have been stuck at the same weight for about 3 weeks also. Well - I guess if it was easy everybody would be doing this, right? Maybe we can add each other to our friends list and keep track how each other is doing? April |

| First off - farts and menstrual cycle do not have allot in common do they? maybe it is the particular foods that you are eating during your cycle that are causing the gas?
Maybe you need to drink more water and balance out the diet a little more evenly with vegetables and fruit (and of coarse protein of some kind). Just my humble opinion..... |

| Yeah - i know what you mean...I can eat beans of ANY type all the time. Funny - since I found out about the espazote, I never have problems with *ahem*...Gas. :-)
I have a terrific recipe for chickpeas cooked with red bell peppers, and onions that are GREAT cold on a bed of lettuce or in a wrap with some shredded lettuce, lowfat cheese and hot sauce. Let me know if you are intererested. I never use canned beans because they are too processed - and I KNOW because I work in the food industry and attend the trade shows to see how some of this stuff is made. Trust me - some things you DO NOT want to know about! :-) |

| o.k. - take it from a LONG TIME bean eater....... I like to cook pinto beans. Take a bag, and pour them on the counter. Make sure there are no stones or yucky beans.
Rinse the bean twice with clean cold water. Put beans in pan and cover the beans by 2 1/2 inches of wter. Turn the heat on high, and boil the beans on medium high heat for 1/2 hour. Cover and remove from heat, and let stand for one hour. In the meantime, chop one yellow onion very fine. Heat pan with one tablespoon olive oil and sautee onions on medium heat for 4 minutes. Add 3 cloves minced garlic, and sautee for 1 minute more. Add to beans. NOW for the anti-gas ingredient. I get this from Penzy's spices. It is called espazote, and it is a mexican spice. It reduces the gas in the beans and adds a very distinct flavor. I usually add 1 -2 teaspoons for one pack of beans. I also add cumin (1 T), oregano (1t), black pepper (1t),chili powder (1T) and salt to taste. Spices can be adjusted to whatever you like. You end up with a great pot of what I term "Cowboy Beans", and they are very good for you too. Favorite way to serve them is on a bed of shredded lettuce of your choice with the beans and a little of the juice on top. Add a little fresh squeezed lime and trust me - they are awesome! Good in a whole wheat flour tortilla for lunch too! Oh well, sorry I blabbed so long but i HAD to share! :-) |

| I used to drink one shot of pure aloe juice everyday when I was pregnant (to take my prenatal vitamin with). I found it made my skin much better, and yes - it did aid in digestion. I rarely got heartburn, but developed an adverse reaction to anything with butter. To this day, my child does not like butter. :-)
I usually got mine at GNC, it is in a brown bottle, and make sure there is no sugar added. Oh - also keep it in the refrigerator. Tastes much better cold, although it does not really taste that bad in itself. |

| Fitness | Am I running enough? | May 10 2007 19:08 (UTC) |
|
| Hello, jmanierre!
Thanks for the advice. I think that I will try changing my running habits everyday. I used to see how much of the 3 miles that I could run at 5 mph, so instead today I put the incline up to 10 and ran at 5 & 6 mph for one mile instead of three. Funny - I found I sweat MUCH more doing this - I guess it had to do with running "uphill". I also will try eating a little more and see what happens. Yes - I know the best way to lose weight in slowly in order to keep it off. I noticed my neighbor has lost about 50 pounds in 6 months. She is very thin now, but the skin around her neck is flabby, and she is not at all toned up. I think I would rather take the long way. :-) i will post any progress - thanks to everyone here for the support! |

| Hello - I do try to mix up the routine somewhat. Some days I walk more, and others I run more. I usually have the treadmill set at 6.0 incline. What incline would be considered uphill?
I do not have access to other equipment. I appreciate the reply and suggestions. I just cant seem to get off the 160 mark for whatever reason. I do not eat any junk food, and I pretty much watch what I am eating. I also do 8 pound weight lifts, crunches, and various other abdominal excercises. *Sigh*........ I know it will get better but sometimes it seems so hard, and I will not give up. I guess I just need some support other than my husbands encouragement. I lived far away from any family members so that support group is not available. :-( |
