| Fitness | Can I exercise when sore? | Jan 27 2008 09:17 (UTC) |

| I've always heard that you shouldn't work the same muscle group two days in a row. For example, working lower body muscles mon/wed/fri and upper body (abs/arms/back) on tues/thur/sat. Gotta give the muscles time to 'rebuild' after a work out. I'm not totally sure if this is true or not. I've never exercised much so I get sore after any workout and stay a bit sore for a couple of days (if I did the workout on mon, still a bit sore on wed; but if I do the same workout on wed while still sore, I feel less sore when I'm done). | |||

| Ok, I'm gald I started this little discussion!! It's fun to hear other peoples' favorites, whether they be good or bad!! My spaggetti isn't so bad if I cold just eat small amounts at a time. That's why I only make it about once a month and then eat it for nearly a week!
Many of your guys' favorites are some of mine as well, though I have an easier time resisting them then I do spaggetti! Can't wait to hear more! |

| I just went to that site you posted and it told me that my ideal weight is 114lbs. I am 5'4". At my smallest I was about 140 and wearing between a size 8-10. At that point my ribs and hip bones were sticking out. I don't think I should ever be less than that. I feel like I would look sickly or like I had and eating disorder. I simply can't believe that 114lbs is healthy for me. | |||

| Weight Loss | Don't know where to begin.... | May 18 2007 17:22 (UTC) |

| Hey Brittany! Welcome to CC! So where to start. . .First I would suggest using the tools on this site to figure out how many calories you use in a day. There are a couple of ways you can do that; first since you have 2 very young children (congrats on the new baby!) and work full time (do you sit at work or are you on your feet?) you can set your actvity level at moderate or you can do it the hard way and set it at sedentary and then use the activity log to add up every thing you do during the day. Setting it at moderate for you is probably best cause you don't have the time to be adding every activity throughout the day, you just log any extra activities (any exercises you might do)!! (I just put your stats in and it says that you use about 3600 cals just to get through the day)
So you take that number and decide what you want your deficit to be each day. Your deficit is the # of cals used minus the # of cals consumed each day. Remember that 3500 cals equals 1lb. So to loose 1lb each week, you need to have a deficit of 500 each day (500cals x 7 days = 3500 cals a week). I personally try to keep a deficit of 1000 each day (but this may be too high for you) so that I can drop about 2lbs each week. Trying for more than 2lbs a week is not very healthy. Next, and I'm sure you've heard this many times as I had, Drink Your Water!!! I was never one to drink water and I mean NEVER! Now I drink about 75oz a day. On days that I don't drink as much, I can always see it in the scale the next day. Water retention sucks!!! Last 2 pieces of advice. . .Use this site! I love it here. I can ask whatever I want and always get help or support or praise or encouragement! It's the only place I feel comfortable talking about my weight, size, body, ect. And very last, there will be days that you don't do as well as you would like. DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP of these days! One day will not ruin your diet. Last week I was sick and didn't eat well at all; my weight didn't go up and in the last 3 days(since I got back on track) I've lost 3lbs. So, now that I've overloaded you with info! I'm gonna add you to my friends list (you can add me as well). Feel free to send me a message whenever you want, I'm on here most every day!! It's my new addiction!! Good Luck!! |

| Yes add me, the more friends, the better!!! I'll add you too!
I'm also more concerend with what size I can wear as aposed to how much I actually weigh. I like to say "If I can weigh 300lbs and still wear a size 10, so what?!!" And aren't guys always trying to tell that size is what counts?;) |

| Hey Tina, I'm 28, 5'4", 192-195 (on the higher side cause of this hole crappy 'time of the month' thing), 2 kids (girl 8 and boy 6), and I am getting married in Sept (this year). I'd love to be your buddie! How long have you been on this site? For me it's just been a month. Started at 200, got all the way down to 192 and was way excited, then shot back up to 195 this week (?%&*@# period!!) My goal before the wedding is 160 but my long term goal is 140. I'll add you to my friend list if that's ok with you. You can add me as well. Have a great day, Shell |

| Kim- I am also 5'4" and I started at 200lbs 3 weeks ago, I am now 192. I am in cosmetology school so I spend all day on my feet as well. I keep my profile on sedentary and then log the hours I am standing or walking around. I also log extra activities like shopping, riding my bike, dishes, laundry, or taking a walk. I am currently eating around 1700 cals (days that I am in school) and I keep a deficit of around 1000 each day. Please feel free to add me to your friend list (I'll add you to mine as well) and check out my journal entries; I journal my intake, expendature, and deficit every day. As I've lost 8lbs in 3 weeks, I think it's working well. Keep in mind that a lb of fat is equal to 3500 cals. So if in one week you eat 3500 less than you burn, you will lose 1lb; that's a daily deficit of 500 a day. So my 1000 deficit makes me lose 2lbs a week. A 1-2lbs loss per week is healthy. Hope that helps!! Michelle |

| i so totally agree!!! I have tried to lose weight so many times, always telling myself that I would eat fast food or sweets. It never lasted more than a couple days or a week at the most!! I just don't have the willpower for that!
This time, and it's over 3 weeks running now, I haven't fallen into that trap. I haven't told myself that I can't have. . .whatever. I just eat in moderation. I i just HAVE to have cookies, I make sure that it fits into my calorie intake for that day and make sure that I maintain a good deficit (trying for 1000 a day but don't kick myself as long it's at least 750). I feel like this time I will be able to keep it up for the long term. And the fact that I've seen that this works, lost 8lbs in 3 weeks, helps a bit too :) |

| Thank you so much!! All this stuff is a bit harder than it seems!! But so far most of this has been fun. I really like that people respond quickly to posts and even if I don't have something to add, it's fun to read what everyone is talking about. SO thanks again!! | |||

| The main reason I cannot find the nutrional information is because there is no manufacturer to look up; foods baught while at the fair for example. Any ideas on how to find that information?
I used the id # for the ingredients in my recipe, I found them on this site. But when I try to analyze the recipe I keep getting yellow flags. The recipe calls for 3 cans of condesed soup and the analyzer can't seem to divide it into servings. Any ideas on that? |

| Foods | Soda... Support for addicts... Step 1, admitting the problem exists | Mar 30 2007 18:33 (UTC) |

| I personally don't drink reagular soda, I am a Diet Pepsi addict! I don't need the sugar from regular soda but I can't seem to give up the caffeine!! So I do understand about the headeaches that come from trying to quit. I received an email a long time ago that might scare some of us into at least cutting back the amount we drink. It's called Water vs. Coke. . . . Water 1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half of the world population) 2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. 3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%. 4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study. 5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. 6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. 7. a mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page. 8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day? Coke 1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident. 2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days. 3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china. 4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola. 5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion. 6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to rusted bolt for several minutes. 7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remover the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a scrumptious brown gravy. 8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield. For Your Info 1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leeches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis. 2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) a commercial truck must use the hazardous material place card reserved for highly corrosive materials. 3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Now the question is, would you like a glass of water or coke? |
