I just wash them, and eat them, skin and all, like an apple! My friends give me odd looks, but my Aussie college roommate ate them like this, and once you get over the idea that the skin is prickly, it's great! |

| Foods | BOCA discontinued? | Dec 17 2007 20:57 (UTC) |
|
| you're right! i looked it up on their website, and they stopped distributing in canada in 2000.
i figured that since i was checkin' stuff out online instead of working, i'd see who does distribute in canada. this is where i came up against a wall - i am completely unfamilliar with canadian grocery stores and products, and the most info i could glean was that "many canadian grocery stores carry (their own brand) of delicious soy-based burger products. good luck on your search - it will be well worth it, i promise. |

as an avid boca-eater, i feel your pain. the morningstar farms grillers are pretty good, though. especially the 'grillers prime.' a bit higher in calories, but i'm sure that you're smart enough to work around that... ;) |

| Foods | pretzel bites? | Apr 03 2007 20:19 (UTC) |

| no...i was allllll about the pretzel bites, but since i couldn't find nutritional info, i wasn't about to eat them and possibly shoot way over my daily limit, so i just took the high road and went healthy.
i tend to think that when you're doing mindless (movie) eating, you don't even really 'taste' it so much...it's more the repetitive activity... i'm a firm believer in life being too short to not indulge occasionally. and nope...don't know who that is, but i love me some sammiches! |

| Vegetarian | why vegetarians should not eat eggs!!! | Apr 02 2007 05:30 (UTC) |
8 |
| if you check your local supermarket egg section, you will see that there is a difference between "cage free" and "free range" chickens.
those who support cruelty-free chicken farming write an extensive blurb on the packaging about the living conditions of the chickens, vs. just tossing key words on there to attract potential buyers. also, you can always do a little research on the website of the company from which you are thinking of buyin the eggs...usually the companies (small or otherwise) who provide truly cruelty-free environments will go into detail about this on their websites. good luck!! |

| you're a beautiful girl. you were a beautiful girl in your 'before' pic...maybe i'm missing something, but you don't look at all as though you needed to lose weight. i know nothing about you, but hey, we're all strangers here, right? here to help each other out with positive motivation and advice tidbits...i think that some people use this site (much like myspace) to bolster their own lagging self-esteem by posting self-depricating messages and pictures so that other users will feed them compliments. and tust me, i'm not saying that you do that, i'm just saying that it happens. i hope that you are a person who is genuinely happy with herself, no matter what she looks like, and that you haven't fallen into the media-imposed trap that forces women to feel unworthy because they aren't as thin as celebs. i hate the idea that women, in particular, are constantly bombarded with the tacit message that only if you are thin and beautiful, will the world accept you. it's crap. i'm off to eat a sandwich. |

| aha! i am always in the same boat!
however, here's some gelatin-free yogurty goodness: dannon natural stonyfield farms horizon organic seven stars farm aaaand, any number of store-brands tend to use pectin or nothin'. or if you are really ambitious, you can make your own: http://fiascofarm.com/dairy/yogurt.htm using cultures that you can buy here: http://www.dairyconnection.com/yogurt.htm (they also supply vegetable rennet for any of you at-home cheesemakers out there.) |

| i'm always in the same boat, so here's what i order:
steamed veggies and steamed brown rice (exciting, right?), and if i'm reeeeeealy lucky, the restaurant will have mock chicken/beef. no sauce. i toss it in a bit of olive oil and low-sodium soy sauce. maybe a little hot pepper, if i'm living dangerously. 1.5 cup (without the mock meat) is, oh, 200 calories-ish, depending on how you dress it. |

| a word to the wise about cheese...
i'm an ethical ovo-lacto vegetarian (meaning that i consume eggs and dairy that come ONLY from cruelty-free sources), and was horrified to find out that any number of cheese manufacturers use animal rennet (an enzyme taken from slaugtered calf's stomach lining - ewwww!!) in the production of their cheese products, and most companies don't tell you whether or not the rennet used is animal, vegetable or microbial. HOWEVER!!!! there is a God/Goddess/Other Being, becuase someone came up with this: http://cheese.joyousliving.com/Default.aspx and now i can go to the store and cheese it up to my heart's content!! |

| Somebody waaaaay back in the beginning of the post asked what 'kosher gelatin' is: it is gelatin (a hydrolyzed form of collagen, usually boiled-down hooves or connective tissue) that not only has come from cows that are raised in and killed according to kosher laws, but has been processed in such a way that non-orthodox ( and i stress this) rabbinical authorities consider the end product to be no longer a 'meat substance.' Bearing in mind, of course, that it is against kosher law to have meat products and milk products mix. There is such a thing as vegetarian gelatin (usually agar-agar, carageenan or pectin), but if the product you are perusing says "kosher gelatin" on the label, rest assured: it's animal. Whew! |
