The Lounge Question about moving one cat from her litter, URGENT! help me please!!!! Aug 29 2007
20:15 (UTC)
That happened with my Zoe. I moved to college, and she was miserable, even with my 2 other cats. Well, on second thought, when I got my youngest, Chandler, he started treating Zoe like target practice and chased her all over the house (this is a cat we're talking about when I talk about Chandler). But I took Zoe with me when I moved into an apartment, and she's moved from Boston to Jersey to New York with me, and is a very happy little purr face. She'd rather be with me than with anyone else.

Give it a shot, if she's even more unhappy, then take her back home. That way, you can always say you tried, right?
The Lounge Poll on Relationship status/being single/personality transformations... Aug 29 2007

I'm  happy in a relationship right now-how did it happen?  I have no idea. LOL! This will tie in to the rest of your post very well, I think-

I am bipolar as well, and in that, it really takes someone with a hell of a lot of patience to be in a long term relationship with me. I can be very...tiring. So I guess I found somebody really special, really patient, and holy cow, he really loves me enough to stick around and tell me when I'm being a dope. And vice versa, because he's not perfect, either. We're also best friends.

Prior to that, I was in an abusive relationship for about 2 1/2 years, and it was hard to get out of that. Obviously, the best thing I've ever done. Was it hard to get over? YES, yes and yes yes yes. I was single for about 5 years, and I loved every second of it. I didn't have to anwser to anyone, I could come and go as I pleased, etc etc.

Getting over a breakup! Stay busy, mama. LEt it out when you have to, but just keep your mind occupied. Meditation, yoga, work out, going out with friends. Anything. And stay away from your ex.

Your ex sounds bipolar. Sometimes major life events can trigger an episode off. It's not common for the onset to occur later in life, but it happens. He's certainly matching up every check list ever made for a manic episode.

Oh yeah, sorry. I do not want animal stuff in my body, regardless of whether or not it won't save any more lives or not. I don't judge vegetarians who don't mind cross contamination-but I don't want it. And as a customer, it was her right to ask the person-politely-to change her gloves prior to her order. Besides the fact, isn't that the rules in all food prep? No cross contamination? Seems to me that is what I've been told time and time again.

Oh, no kidding, Defrog! Before I moved here, when I would come up for a show or whatever, people would ask me where I was from, and when I would tell them, they'd stare at me, and go, " you  came all the way up HERE? Wow!"

I was like, um. It's only 2 hours. LOL! Where do you live now? I actually grew up in Mt. Laurel, since you're familiar with South Jersey-I went to Lenape!

LOL, Dr. Philly is 2 hours away from NYC. If that's just down the road...

I'm sorry, but I'm going to disagree with you. I grew up there. Trust me. It's not considered a suburb of NY.

From growing up in Cherry Hill-a suburb of Philly, as it's known sometimes-I can tell you right now Philly is not considered a suburb of NY. New Yorkers don't even consider Philly/South Jersey part of the tri state area.

Firstly, alyosha is HILARIOUS, LOL! I laughed out loud when I read their response.

Santo (I really messed your screen name up, I'm sorry!!!), I think we might have different definitions of shoving down the throat. Although! I've known PLENTY of people that were all hellfire and brimstone, and I didn't like that too much, either. To me, you come buzzing my buzzer, asking to come up to my apartment, to discuss "the truth", the "better way of life" etc etc, I take it as shoving it down my throat. If I wanted to find out about that religion, I'd pick up a phone book and do so. Like i said, my home is my sanctuary. All day long, I'm assaulted with BUY THIS! BUY THAT! CAPTAIN JACK! BAILEY'S! I'M A HENNESSEY BOTTLE AND I'M BETTER THAN YOU! (please somebody tell me they've seen this ad, or I'm going to come off looking like a nutter), etc etc, including a hundred adverts for a hundred different churches, santoria, psychics, etc. I'd rather come home, put my comfies on, fast forward the the commercials, and spend the time with me and my cats and maybe a few friends or boyfriend. You know? I just have had enough.

Also, the church across the street who like to have a big festival beginning at an ungodly hour of the morning on Saturdays screaming about God from like 8 am till 10 at night outside their church at top volume certainly doesn't endear me to hearing more about ANY religion, either. LOL!!!

I was responding also to the general intent of the thread-I dont appreciate anyone coming to my door with the intent of shoving Jesus Christ down my throat. Nor do I appreciate anyone trying to sell me crap either, at my door.

I live in an apartment, and when they start ringing the buzzer, it's loud-and it's annoying. the only time I wish to hear that buzzer ring is if I'm expecting friends or food. Not only that, I live in NYC, and I'm exhuasted at the end of my day, and I wish to be left alone. In my home, that is my right. I don't understand why people are taking such issue with those of us who don't want people coming to our doors.

Hi Anathema! I live in Brooklyn, and I see some of these things, too. Like Trustwomen said, it's impossible to live in NYC and not see them, lol.

That being said, it doesn't stop me from HATING these things with a passion. I even list them as one of me biggest phobias.

So, I saw one a few months back, and I haven't seen one since. I make sure the trash is taken out often. I clean the countertops day and night (and by that I mean, that before bed and when I get up). I do that because I know these things crawl through sewer pipes and whatnot and the amount of germs and bacteria that is on their bodies is wiggins-inducing. So I know that they do crawl on countertops, so I just lysol them down all the time.

The best way to get rid of them is not with Raid, surprisingly enough-and so I've read and so I've seen. Were I you-and I've been there, too-I'd use boric acid and bay leaves around the perimeter of your home. Anyplace where you think they can get in. You shouldn't have too much of a problem after that, and it won't be harmful to your cat.

If this is the first one you've seen, and you really don't see them again, I doubt you have a big problem, if at all.

I know I don't post very much-but I've been following this thread, and I wanted to say I've been with Robyn the whole way. I feel that my home is my sanctuary-I shouldn't have to continue to fend off interruptions at my door in my own home. I live in an apartment, and I get door to door religion people at my buzzer, lol.

Jules, I didn't have problems starting the book-too much. I kept stopping, maybe I wanted to drink in every word. When I got to the end, I tried to go extra slow because I know I'll never have the feeling of reading a brand new harry Potter adventure again. Blech.

People would have moved away from us...

Actually, sometimes, if i'm listening to something funny on my ipod, i'll just start to break out laughing, and people move away anyways, lol.

I'm so glad I read this book...what a story! I was satisfied the way it wrapped up, I've been so rooting for Hermione and Ron to get together! The part where Harry went to Dumbledore after Voldemort cursed him, I was in tears. I was in tears during Snape's Pensieve.

What a great, great book. What a shame that people are chalking it up to characters like "the fat boy".

Oh no, Marnedeer, you're going to have to elaborate on that "irrational fear tactics" statements. If you are suggesting that the stories about the slaughterhouse are false...guess again, I've been in a chicken slaughterhouse myself to see, I've heard stories just like that from several other sources...
Being in the vegetarian forum, and I've said this before-this is a place where we should be free to talk about our diets and our beliefs without a meat eater or hunter or whatever coming in here and trying to take it all down because it differs from their beliefs. Lordy! And everyone else-this is a great book. It's an easy read-well, fast. The stories about the slaughterhouses are really heartbreaking-and the sad part is that they are true. Best of luck to those of you that are just starting out on your journey being veg! Compassionate living is the way to go.
Weight Loss "Big Girls" ??? Jul 06 2007

Hey, I'm 5'9", and years ago, i started at over 220 pounds. I lost weight, down to 160-but then my mom died and I gained about 25-30 pounds. Comfort eating, who knew? LOL!

I lost it the first time with exercise, whole eating-I mean lots of vegetables, unprocessed food, no dairy or cheese or eggs-just really good for you stuff. I was doing yoga at least once a week, and always on my feet.

I'm going back to the gym now, eating better-5-6 times a day now. Everyone's telling me how much better I look now. I quit weighing so much-that will really bring you down! I look at the way my clothes fit now.

And I TOTALLY understand your frustration with people that weigh way less than we do, and are still going on about losing weight! It's ok, though. We'll be there someday, too.

Best of luck to you, darling!

Hey, i like that comeback, too! Definetly not a sell out. If you were a sell out, you would have either just eaten the meat, or actually picked it off.

yuck, LOL! A few weeks ago, I went to this Colombian place for dinner, and I asked for the only thing on the menu I thought I could eat-rice and beans.

Do you know, they put shredded meat in the beans? LOL! So I just sat with my boyfriend and drank a soda till I got home, when I ate. I couldn't imagine picking out or off the meat and eating the residue. I'm picky, though-I've heard of it being done.

hmmm. It would seem as though you are having nightmares with your cat's blood all over his hands, because you are feeling guilty over his death. Perhaps somewhere, you think there was something you could have done to prevent it, that you couldn't save him.

Sorry to hear about your little boy.

Ahhhh, house centipedes. Hey, they kill cockroaches and all sorts of nasty little bugs, so maybe you'd rather keep them. They're nocturnal, and you shouldn't be seeing them so much, most likely on accident. I used to be freaked out by them until I learned that they eat cockroaches, their eggs, etc etc-so now I just leave them.

I killed a cockroach in my apartment the other day, the first one I've ever seen there in 3 years. Needless to say, I've been cleaning like a woman on a mission, 409ing EVERYTHINg day and night, and mopping day and night, lol.

I don't think he meant my mother developed that cancer because she had her clothes dry cleaned-rather, my father was asking how in the world she could have been exposed to said chemical, and he gave some examples of where you would find it.

The dry cleaning thing stuck in my head, because I found it peculiar-like, DRY CLEANING? Really?

Nope, I do the same thing, and finally, I'm starting to lose weight again! My metabolism went right up, and I quit counting calories. Holy cow, can I say that was a huge relief? I love it.

But I'm always carrying a big bag of fruit and stuff to work to eat while I'm there, lol. I get hungry every 2-3 hours now, which is fine. As long as it works!

This is going to sound horrible, but my parents kept most of this stuff from me while it was going on-it was easy to do, they live in Florida, I live in NY. I really didn't find out she was that sick until about a week before she passed away. It was that fast.

However, to my understanding, this chemical that caused this cancer was primarily found in dry cleaning and I want to say in mines? I don't have all the details, because they kept me in the dark about it.

Tragic, yes. Terribly so. A lot of people really get all upset when they hear my parents lied to me about how sick she really was...but then again, I really did enjoy the last days/weeks/months with my mother, even though a lot of them were only on the phone. She must have been EXHAUSTED putting up that front that everything was ok. I went to see her the week before she passed, and boy was I shocked at what I saw! But, we were able to say what we wanted to say, not knowing it was so limited-nobody thought she'd go that fast. Everyone says she waited for me, because literally the next day, she slid downhill so fast...

Never, NYCgirl. That is what is so confusing about it. We have no idea where she could have been in contact with that chemical. She worked in offices all of her life, as a secretary. Her cancer was something that was pretty rare, and 99% fatal. I don't know the name of it. What I do know is that it was very unfortunate-she also had a blood disorder that takes down your white blood cells drastically-so doing a lot of chemo was very hard, to my understanding. Her doctor also completely misread her radiology (?) reports, and missed the cancer a few months before they had to remove her kidney-couldn't figure out why she was in so much pain. It was then that they found it. After that, she did some chemo, some radiation-after they found that it had spread to her bones. Very aggressive, very sad. They figure she'd been sick since about...November of 2005? They took her kidney out in April of 2006, and was gone by October of 2006.

Rather devestating, and very frightening.

To those of you who have/had friends/family members diagnosed with this disease...

This past October, I lost my mother to cancer. Stage 4 kidney cancer that spread through her body at an alarming rate. It didn't seem to matter what she did or did not eat. They said it came from some chemical that is mostly present in dry cleaning. She wasn't around dry cleaning that much...

So the point I am making is that I agree with NYCGirl. Allllllll this research after my mother did, trying desperately to understand what happened to her (I'm only 28)...and the only conclusion I could come up with is that nobody really knows where it comes from. That's the scariest thing. They seem to come out with something new everyday that "fights cancer". Can you believe every single study? I have no idea.

But, having said that, I'm trying my hardest to eat as many fruits and veggies and possible, less processed stuff. And certainly, no meat. All those things that go on at the factory farms cannot be good to go in our bodies, right?

Best of luck to all of you and your loved ones.
