Terri-Well to be honest I don't know many people that are a size 0, so im using a friend thats is at a healthy weight. I know exactly what you mean about using a bigger person, thats why I don't want to use myself for this project. I just feel people are going to look at me and say, yeah she probably needs to double her dosage.

Pgeorgian!!! I totally understand were you are coming from, I can't even relate to someone with anorexia or bulimia because I have never push myself to that point. But when you think about it anorexia and bulimia are not the only types of eating disorders. What about people the people who are so overweight that living a normal life is no longer possible. When they are bed ridden, and can even get up to take a shower but continue to get 25, 000 calories a day. No one shows these types of psa's , they show the not eating instead of the overeating even though both lead to tragic deaths.

I don't know what I'm doing anymore, I just feel like I'm not creative enough. I hate cliches but it seems as though that is what the professor is asking for.

Yeah, I agree , mirrors make a strong visual! ok so this is my rough draft so far:

(This is according to my content and the resources or the lack there of,lol)

shot opens with girl looking in the mirror .

pinches certain spots on her body.

close up to facial expression

walks toward a table

I get a shot of a diet pill bottle(Xedrine, Stacker, etc)

have her take out some pills,( one or two not sure)

cut to her crushing diet pills into powder follow her movement to

rolling paper and her  simulate a coke addict "sniffing" the powder

then have her go on a mini trip, (i dont have enough time to exagerate the effects)

then fall or lay on the floor with a whole bunch of cut out pictures of skinny models, fashion magazines, etc.

My message would be that the media portrays an unhealthy unattainable image of women  and the lengths some people would endure to reach this non existent goal.  The idea of weight loss as an  obsession due to the influence of the media and how it leads to an addiction similar to hardcore drugs.

What do you guys think?

Thank you guys for all your imput!

Terricontrary: The editing platform we are using is Final Cut Pro4, we are using a crappy Mini dv camera and are only allowed to make the movement continous, so we are not going to be able to apply animation, morphing, still images or anything of that sort.  It's as simple as you can get, he just wants us to incorporate our wide, medium and close up shots, lighting techniques, and the message.  I love your idea about the morphing people but we can't us morphing but i think i might be able to cut the some shots to have that same affect. Your second idea is great too, i think i can incorporate it better with the tools i have THanks!

Jewels: That psa gave me chills!Oh man,  great idea too, man if i only thought about it first!lol I can really draw some ideas from this, such as food as an addiction or something.

flowergirl: Good point, i need to include a variety of people so that I can reach as many as i can. I just hope have the volunteers to do so!:)

pgeorigan: I do need to refine my message because my professor wants us to show what the reward is at the end. That restaurant idea is great too, im definitely going to take that into consideration.

I also had the concept of weight as an addiction caused by the media. Like I can take a shot of a diet pill and smash into crystals and make it look like cocaine or something.  The idea is to show how weight loss is an obsession and can become an addiction just like any other drug. not sure if i'm going to go with that because now you all gave me some other great ideas. I'm off to

brainstorm!!! THANKS AGAIN ALL

Foods yogurt and...? Feb 24 2009

actually Plain or sugar-free low-fat or fat-free yogurt is allowed on the first phase. You're probably done with the first phase by now but just for future reference I like to add cinnamon with my plain  yogurt, add some nuts and sweeteners and  it make crunchy sweet combination.

Hi Sara,

Seeing that you've probably blocked me from responding back to you( I wouldn't blame you, lol) I figured I would post my response on the board in order to amend my behavior.

I just wanted to let you know that I apologize for responding in the manner I did.  It was uncalled for and just the product of a really bad day.  When I received your email I was in a very upset and aggravated mindset and I interpreted your email in a negative view rather than a motivating reminder.

Again I apologize  for upsetting or insulting you. I am truly embarrassed at how childish I acted.

I wish you and your group the best of luck with this journey!!! Smile

Sincerely,

Evie

Hallo  everyone! Happy late mother's day to you all.....unless you're not a mother yet  or you're a guy, lol.

Well I have a confession and I was looking for some advice!!! I took my mom out for dinner yesterday and I planned to stick to phase one. We were going to go to Red lobster and I thought i was set. you know some good fish and mixed veggie and I'll be allset.  when we got there it was 2hr wait!!! So my mother really wanted to go to this mexican resturant ... ..to make a long story short i let myself have rice and a tortilla or two!!:( I know iknow i am a disapointment, lol which leads me to ask for the kind wisdom from you guys! Since I cheated yesterday on phase one, should i  add another day to the phase?i mean i didnt indulge greatly but i did have carbs.  Also, does giving into carbs during phase one ruin all my previous efforts?

Thanks!!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome Ohio45. I do know that 1 to 2lbs a week is the healthier and more permanent way to lose. weight. I want to be able to drop at least 30 lbs in 15 weeks.(May11-Aug 31) that's about 2lbs a week!but that is my max goal. I am not pushing it any more than what's considered healthy. i have lost more than 2lbs this week but that's only been because I am on phase 1 of SB and I guess form what I've read thats when you drop the most but it's mainly water weight. I don't expect to see the same results every week.

I'm also actually counting my calories while on this phase. I keep my deficit between 750-900.Smile

Thanks for your wishes!!

Evie

Hey All!

I just started SB 5/5/08 and I am confident this is the right lifestyle change I need. I have been visiting your thread the past couple of days and I fell in love with it. Your story is amazing sun123. It almost made me cry! And your guide is awesome, I have been using it since I started. I would love the advice of all you veteran South Beachers!Laughing

my stats are

age:20.... 21 in august

gender: f

height;5'3"

SW:195 ( on 5/5/08)

CW:191.6

GW:161-158 by my 21st birthday on August 16th!

Do you think it's possible to reach that goal by the end of August? I haven't been in my 150's-160's since 7th grade!

Thanks all ,

Evie

Hey pink,

I just started the Sb with my sister's on 5/5/08. So far, it's been great for me. I feel full , no headahces or stomach aches, however, can't say the same thing for my sisters :(.  I've lost about 1.6lbs and I've read you can lose up to 13lbs in phase one. I know it's probably just water weight but it's motivating to see on the scale. Plus if you go into phase 2 I've read those "water weight lbs" stay off. But I am not an expert on this at all so you should consult with a specialist on this.

This thread is very helpful if you consider or have anymore questions:

Weight Loss Elliptical Mar 22 2008

according to this website you CAN burn  700 calories on the elliptical using light effort. Maybe that just based on my weight (195)? You can look it up where you log in your activities.

I worked out today for 20mins and I burned 189 calorie son the elliptical on a very light effort like level 3 i think. And i kept my heart rate level in between like below 50% of my average heart rate. If you multiply that by 3 for the full  60 min and you get over 500 calories.

I think it really depends on the person and the heart rate.

I've been on CC for a week now and expected to lose 2 lbs the first time around. I think I've only lost 1.4lbs. At first I was disappointed and worried that I wasn't doing it right because I really wanted those 2lbs! But now I see I have to be patient and I must accept this as a lifestyle not a diet.

I stopped weighing myself and am focusing on getting healthier, stronger and I am measuring my weight loss by inches not lbs.

Thank you so much for this post!  I t has motivated me to keep truckin, lol. And be patient and appreciate my body! I'm looking forward to see how my hard-work pays off in the next few weeks!
