I am in the same boat.  I weigh with my shoes on and my gym clothes because the only scale I use is in a public hallway at the gym (OUCH).  I usually take 3 pounds off for the whole ensamble.

I have been hitting the gym hard lately.  I have been doing 50+ minutes of cardio 5-6 days a week and lifting 3 days a week.  I weighed in on Wed and I am at 154.4!  My start weight was 186 and goal weight is 130.  I am hopeing/working to be at less than 150 by the end of May.  Wish me luck!

Fitness work out on period days??????????? May 11 2007

I worked out hard during TTOM this past month.  I didn't have any cramps until I started working out that day.  After about 15 minutes I started to get really bad back cramps.  I pushed through until about the 20 minute mark and at that point I had to stop for a while and rub my back.  After the pain dulled I got back on the elliptical and didn't have any problems for the rest of the week.
Weight Loss losing more than 10 lbs a month... May 10 2007

I am eating right and I work out pretty hard core.  I have been steadily losing about 2-2.5 pounds a week.  I had the oppisite effect as most people.  I started "dieting" first and it took me about 10 weeks to lose the first ten pounds.  Now that I am doing pretty hard-core cardio I am losing a little bit faster than I have been in the past.  I think I may have built up more muscle and I know that helps you burn more calories on a day to day basis.  Last week I lost 4.5 pounds.  I worked out a lot (really stressed at work) and I ate really well.  I think it is different with everyone.  I know in the begining, I didn't lose much, but now that I am on a very regular routine I think it is going really well.  I am happy with my results but I have a lot to lose.  I started a few months ago at my highest weight 186.  Now I am down to 154.4 and I only have 25ish pounds to go until I am at my goal weight.  I am expecting the weight loss to slow down as I get closer to my goal weight.  So, if you don't have very far to go, I wouldn't worry.  I am not trying to lose massive amounts of weight.  I am following all the guide lines and I am steering well away from starvation mode.  I think everybodys body is different and will lose at the rate it is meant to with the right diet and exercise plan.

I am at 32 pounds lost.  I have about 25 to go and then my mom wants me to pick out something naughty at Victorias sectret and she will buy it for me.  When I hit 25 pounds gone, I bought some new running shoes.  When I hit 40 pounds, I am going to splurge on a really nice elliptical trainer.  When I hit 50 pounds, I am going to buy a lot of new clothes and when I hit my goal I think I will get some tasteful but still a little bit dirty pictures done!!!  Wow, I sound bad don't I??!!!  lol :)
Weight Loss How much stress does it take to hurt weightloss? May 10 2007

I understand what it is like to be massively stressed out.  I am an Air traffic Controller in the military currently deployed overseas (I don't know how much more day to day stress a person can ask for)  Honestly, I have found that to maintain a certain level of sanity I have to surround myself with postitive things and people when I'm not at work.  I know that activity has helped me a lot in the recent months.  I literally have had to cut people and places out of my life permanetly.  I respect what you are doing, I have been estranged from certain members of my extend family for a great deal of time.  I am not sure if I would have it any other way.  Just try to eliminate the negative and try to schedule some "me time" that you can just lay back and relax with a good book or movie or anything to clear your head for a while.  Only you know what works for you.  If all else fails you can always try my technique of getting rid of everyone in your life that causes you stress.  It is hard, but after a while it really helps and you will realize that you are better off.
Fitness Best Exercise for Weight Loss? May 10 2007

Well, if you are just starting an exercise routine.  I wouldn't jump right into trying to run 5 miles on the tredmill.  I started out by walking a few months back.  I would get up each morning and walk around the track for an hour. (I am in the military deployed so not a good idea to walk around the "neighborhood")  After that I started hitting the gym and just upping the time when I could.  I personally like the elliptical trainer.  You get a lot of the benifits of running without the strain on your joints.  I started doing that for 30 minutes 3 days a week.  Now here I am 32 pounds lighter (starting 186 current 154 goal 130)  But now I am up to doing 45-70 minutes of cardio 5-6 days a week.  Plus 3 days of weight training.  Just start small and work your way up.  Good luck.
Fitness the elliptical, arc trainer or treadmill??? May 10 2007

I have never used the arc trainer.  I find that the tremill/running in general is too hard on an old knee injury.  I love the elliptical.  I try to mix it up and use the elliptical/ walk on an incline on the tredmill/ and spin class.  Spin class will kick your butt.  I only do it once a week, but if you have a good instructor she will make you feel that hour!!!

So yeah, I would say ... Elliptical!
Weight Loss Isn't counting calories ruining your life? May 10 2007

I L-O-V-E Calorie count.  It is nice to feel that I am not on my own.  I weighed 130 pounds when I graduated high school.  Well here I am 6 years and 56 pounds later.  I am working my a$$ off to get back to a healthy weight that I can feel good about myself at.  Yeah food is enjoyable, I love food, if I didn't I wouldn't be here.  I ate anything I wanted at 15 to, and it comes back to haunt you... Trust me.  I can still eat the things I want, I just pay attention to how much and how often.  It is unrealistic to think that I will eat grilled chicken and veggies every meal for the rest of my life.  Now I just know that if I want that double bacon cheeseburger, I can have it, I am just going to have to put in an extra hour at the gym to stay on track.  I love "most" of the forums here because it reminds me that I am not alone.  I have gotten so much support here and I appreciate every little bit of it.  I am now 32 pounds lighter and well on my way to being happy with myself.  I feel bad for people who need to build themselves up by making others feel like crap.  Shame on you Sarah, 15 is young, but it is old enough to know better.  Good luck in the future... I'm sure you'll need it.
Weight Loss retaining water... reasons?? May 09 2007

If you have been eating a ton of protein for a few months and only two days ago started drinking a ton of water you may have messed up your kidneys.  When you are on a high protein diet you need to compensate with a whole lot of water so you don't do any damage to your kidneys.  Protein is very hard on your kidneys especially if you aren't eating much carbs to balance things out.  If I were you I would talk to a doc ASAP.  It may be something small, but only a doctor can tell you that for sure.  I hope that everything is alright.  But please remember to keep drinking a lot of water, at the very least you could end up with kidney stones and it isn't fun to pee blood.  Trust me.  I am in the military and while I was in Iraq we had a lot of people get kidney stones because of lack of water.  Like I said, I hope that everything is alright.

I know how you feel.  Unfortunately, you can't pick where the weight comes off first.  What kind of Cardio are you doing?  I know certain types build a lot of muscle but the fat isn't coming off as quick.  It will eventually come off... Trust me, it may just be that your body builds muscle a little quicker than it burns fat.  Don't worry just stick with it and everything will even itself out.  I have been at this weight loss thing for a while now and I only recently started to notice a difference in my physical appearance.... and that is after 28 pounds lost!  Don't forget that the more muscle you build the easier it will be to burn fat.  Muscles help you burn more calories at rest.  Good luck!!!
Weight Loss Exercise? May 08 2007

I do at least 45 minutes a day 5-6 days a week.  I have also recently started weight training.  I think the "diet" is a good jumping off point, but exercise is the icing on the cake.  Lately I have been doing about 70 minutes on the elliptical 1 hour of hard cardio with a 10 minute cool down.  I am burning about 800 calories a session with this.  I personally L-O-V-E the elliptical.  I have bad knees and it gives you all the benefits of running without the strain on your joints.  I know when the elliptical at my gym is calculating calories it takes into account your heart rate, resistance level, speed, and body weight to find the acurate figure.  How much are you looking to lose?  I have lost 28 pounds in the past few months.  I didn't really start to see a difference until I started doing all this cardio.  Now I love it, and can't imagine going more than a day or two without it.  Best of luck to you.  I know the recomended for weight loss is at least 30 minutes 4 days a week.  I hope that helps.

I think most workouts will make you gain some muscle mass.  I personally love the elliptical.  I rotate between that and walking on an incline.  Muscles are good though, they help you lose weight and burn more resting.  I wouldn't worry about getting "bulky"  as a female, getting bulky takes a hell of a lot of work.

First off, I looked at your pictures, YOU ARE STUNNING!!!  And about your questions...

I have the same problem with muscles.  I used to play soccer and feild hockey in high school and I have pretty large leg muscles as well,  I am trying to do work with a resistance bands and pilates.  I have been told by a lot of people that it really works to lengthen your muscles so you get the "long lean" look that most women want.

As far as the food goes, I am no expert but I try to eat the "right" foods whole grains, fruit and veggies, lean protiens.  I try to mix up how much I eat of each on a day to day basis so my body doesn't get used to anything and hit a platue.

I try to keep my intake divided as follows 25% fat 25% protien 50% carbs.  +/- 5%

As far as the stubborn stored fat, I really have no clue, no offense but that cranberry thing sounds a little like the old grapefruit diet.  I would just do a lot of cardio and spot tonning for those areas that are bothering you.  I don't think there is a magical cure or else everyone would have already done it!

*Not working out after high school is what got me in this situation in the first place.  I have gained 50 pounds in the past 6 years with just sitting around.  Just because you are no longer running track don't let yourself slack off.  I have just recently got back into exercise and it is the best thing I could have done.  I have lost 27.6 pounds in the past few months and I am still going strong.  I don't have any medical expertise, but I am speaking from experience.  Diet is important, but so is activity.  I think you will do fine.  Good luck!

Fat - 21.9% (778 grams)
Protein - 27.4% (2,189 grams)
Carbohydrates - 48.3% (3,858 grams)

That was from last month and I lost 12 pounds last month.  I know you get more "bang for your buck" when you eat carbs.  Carbs are a huge energy source.  I just try and not do the same everyday.  I like to change it up.

I think it is great that you are aware of your physical weight.  But at 13, your body is still changing.  You are still growing upwards and outwards.  Just keep eating right and make exercise a lifelong habit and you will be fine.  There is a predetermined weight that you are supposed to be.  You can't fight genetics.  You can look the best you can look with a good diet and exercise, but not everyone is supposed to be rail thin.  As long as you are healthy, try not to get to hung up on the numbers on the scale.  And at 13, you are going to start to get womenly curves.  Embrace them, they are what makes you a woman and beautiful.  It took me a long time to feel like that, if you can start trying at 13, you are way ahead of the game.

I'm just venting here, but when I read about girls that are 5'5" and weigh like 100 pounds and are still trying to lose weight, it really does bug me.  I never want to say anything, because I don't want to hurt anyones feelings.  But I always just want to say, if you think you're fat, it will make you feel better to turn off the computer and go for a walk.  I know exercise is hard for a lot of people, but it really has been my saving grace.  I think exercise helped me not only get healthier, but sleep better and raise my self esteem.  I am one of those people who really does need to lose weight.  I started out at 186 (my highest) and here I am a few months later at 158.4.  I still have quite a way to go for my goal, but with all of the healthy advice and support I am getting from this site, I know I will get there.

Weight Loss Days on and off May 03 2007
13:27 (UTC)
I don't have any scientific facts to back this up.  But I just try and vary my calorie intake by about 300 calories every few days.  I never go below 1200 and I don't go above 1600 unless I am treating myself and eating up to maintenence calories for the day (about once every two weeks).  It has been working so far.  I have lost 27 pounds in the past 4 months.  I think everyones body is different and you just need to find what works best for you.  I know some people that eat the same thing for at least one meal everyday.  I personally can't do that so I try to mix it up.

I'm down 27 pounds and I can only see one difference.  I am in the military deployed right now so I wear BDU's and baggy PT gear all day everyday so I haven't been able to see a difference in my clothes except one.  My underwear is starting to get baggy!  How funny is that?  I notice the first difference because my Butt is shrinking.  I keep having people tell me that I look thinner, but I still can't see it except on the scale.  I am hoping to be down another 7-8 pounds by the time I go home in a month.  And I am also hoping that nothing fits... except my bras!
