| Health & Support | My weight and my Height. Overwieght? Perfect? | Mar 30 2008 21:10 (UTC) |

You sound just perfect. in fact you could even stand to gain a few pounds and would still be very healthy and look great. you are currently at the low end of a healthy weight range. find a weight that makes you feel comfortable, which will vary due to your own personal body shape and amount of muscle and bone structure. focus on how you feel. are you in good shape? can you run? do yoga? do push ups? do you eat a balanced diet with protein and fiber, fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc? if so, you are fine, and keep up this great, healthy lifestyle. |

| Motivation | Already fall within a healthy BMI and looking to lose those last few pounds and/or get in shape? | Feb 09 2008 19:22 (UTC) |

I wanna join too!! :P I am happy to say that I went from having a bmi of 28.7 (5'6" and 178 pounds) to 23.3 (144 pounds). My ultimate goal is to be comfortably between 135 and 140, allowing some wiggle room for off days and such. Geez, it is HARD to believe I am so close to my goal. I have been losing weight like crazy lately, too, so with any luck I will reach 140 in the next couple of weeks. As for exercise, I am really into running lately. It is amazing how quickly I see improvement in my speed/endurance. For anyone out there afraid of running (I know I always was), just try it for a few weeks. You will see so much improvement! And what a great way to blast calories and tone up at the same time!! |

Wow happyteacher, I have had dreams exactly like the one you just described. I totally overeat and feel really remorseful about it until I realize it was just a dream. Then I get really happy and feel so relieved. Thanks for making me feel less insane!! I thought I was the only one that obsessed with counting calories. |

I really enjoy the sugar free mocha syrup. I tried it in a frappuccino light and it was quite a treat. A tall sugar free mocha frappuccino light would be about 100 calories. Not bad for a really creamy, somewhat chocolate indulgence. I find the SF mocha tastes kinda like marshmallow. No, it's not the same as regular mocha, just different. |

Hey guys, how's everyone doing? I weighed myself today and was actually down to 144... that is crazy low for me! I guess all my time at the gym lately has paid off. I may be out of this group sooner than I thought :P
Vampiricsyren: I remember exactly how great I felt the first time I was under 150. It seemed unreal. Now being under 145 just gave me that same feeling. I can't even imagine how great it will feel to be under 140... :D |

Hey there, Count me in too! I'm 146 right now, and 140 has been a pretty big goal for quite some time now. It finally seems within reach, although realistically I know it may take a while to get there. I find that the closer I get to this goal, the harder it is to lose. But on the plus side, each lost pound of fat is more and more noticeable. |

| Also, you could just stop making that banana bread. Even though it sounds tasty and overall quite nutritious, there's no sense in keeping something in the house that is going to provoke you to binge. Just a thought. That being said, banana bread and melty dark chocolate!?! we may have very similar taste in sweets |

Hmmm, I would try browsing around some men's body building web site if I were you. But the basic info that I do know is that you will want to do a lot of strength training exercises, i.e. lifting, crunches, lunges, etc. and for cardio, do short sprints rather than long distance. As far as food goes, you will eat more calories than you burn, and eat a lot of protein, which is necessary to build muscle. But yeah, I would definitely look on body building web sites to find more specific info on exercises and food choices. |

| Motivation | My significant other is smaller than me... :-( | Feb 04 2008 08:21 (UTC) |

I was definitely a good 20 pounds heavier than my ex-boyfriend (whom I was seven inches shorter than!). The latest guy I'm seeing is probably about the same weight as me and about four-five inches taller. Go figure.. I think it's the curse of being attracted to the tall, skinny fellows. Anyway, don't let it get you down. There's no reason to compare your weight to you man's. Just like there is no reason to compare your weight to your sister's or your friend's or your second cousin's. We all have different builds -- and different relationships with food for that matter -- and comparing ourselves to others is not necessarily a healthy way of determining our feelings for ourselves. That being said, I know being petite has come to be associated with femininity, but it doesn't have to be that way in your mind. Look at big, beautiful plus sized models if you're feeling particularly uninspired, or better yet, make yourself feel fabulous by treating yourself to a sexy new outfit or flattering undies. Something to make you feel HOT. |

| Hey, thank you everyone! Hearing all these nice compliments is so inspiring!!! So, it took me about nine months I guess, with a lot of trial and error in between, so it ultimately adds up to a loss of three pounds a month. Not a lot, but I guess it's a lesson in patience. Just keeping it up, as long as the overall trend is downward. I still have a ways I want to go, but it's nice to finally see the difference myself. | |||
| Weight Loss | Who went off their diet this New Years Eve? | Jan 01 2008 19:03 (UTC) |
14 |
I went crazy... Lunch at macaroni grill where the average menu item has over 1,000 calories, and then at the new years eve party, appetizers of smoked tri-tip, deviled eggs, turkey empanadas, then chicken with egg noodles in a creamy sauce for dinner, and for dessert, everything from tiramisu to homemade peanut butter fudge. All this plus two french martinis, champagne, and probably just 1,000 more calories simply from taking bites and sips here and there that I don't even remember. Silly me. Today I am still stuffed. Oh well, might as well enjoy the last day of the year, right? |

well, we didnt end up going down today because he promised that he is going to come up and visit tomorrow, but we'll see... i dont see how he could pull himself together enough to get to the airport and buy a ticket. anyway, thanks for all your kind, kind words. i have been feeling like my sister and i are very alone in all this, but of course there are many people who deal with this all the time. it somehow makes me feel better to know there are so many of you guys out there. now time to get busy checking out all those links.. al-anon sounds like a really good option. my aunt's been going for years, but i never realized until lately that im probably a good candidate too. denial i guess. thank you so much. |

thank you for your kind replies. sadly, they were exactly what i was afraid of. my dad is self-employed as i said, and as of recently, he doesn't have health insurance, and at this point we dont know what kind of money situation he's in, so we're not quite sure what we're going to do. the fact that he has to want the help for himself is the worst part of it all. we hope at the very least that the fact that we drove 500 miles will shock him out of his depression a bit and show him how much we care, which might do some kind of good. i think that once this chaos blows over, al-anon might be a good option for me. this is just so much to deal with. anyway, thank you guys. |

| Young Calorie Counters | Favorite Thing About Yourself?? | Dec 21 2007 06:42 (UTC) |

I love my brain, or my intellect you could say. I love how I have always been able to do well in school and that I actually enjoy learning; that I prefer reading a good book to almost anything; that I think about my life philosophically and thus understand myself in the context of the world; that I hold myself to high standards and don't settle for mediocrity; that I would rather listen than talk about things that I don't understand. I have always considered myself kind of a nerd, and thought of my braininess as something that I should apologize for, but as I get older I am starting to see that it is who I am... and hey, i'm starting to like my body pretty well too! |

Well, age is just a number.. There are plenty of 40-year-olds who are still at a 13-year-old mentality, and some 16-year-olds who probably have more wisdom than some people ever will. To me, it seems immature to start drawing boundaries between people where none are really necessary. We can all learn from each other, right? |

Hey guys, i like to make smoothies like this too! I have them for breakfast all the time I like to throw fat free yogurt into them, because it makes it really creamy and flavorful. for example, raspberry or strawberry yogurt with frozen berries plus some cocoa powder and a bit of chocolate soymilk. or i use banana, but instead of fresh one i use one that's been in the freezer overnight. throw this in with some chocolate soymilk, cocoa powder, and a tablespoon of better 'n peanut butter... mmm! for some reason the frozen banana really makes it. |

dont be silly.. no need to compare. aside from the fact that we're all in different schools and different academic programs, it just plain doesn't matter who got a 4.0 and who got a 2.5.. just so long as you passed your classes! i mean, i know i've gotten all a's in college so far, but my friends who are engineering majors at Berkeley work ten times harder than me to pull 2.5s and 3.0s. Grades are silly anyway.. as long as you did your best, you should feel damn proud. |

Good job on all those 4.0's! Who knew that us calorie counters were so intelligent? Oh wait, of course we are. At my school A minuses don't count as 4 points, they count as 3.8, so getting a 4.0 is pretty tricky. That being said, I have to maintain a 3.25 in order to keep my academic scholarship, so I'm assuming/praying that my grades will be along those lines. |

Hahah, oh man, this time two years ago was pure hell. I checked the mailbox every five minutes starting at two pm every single day.. and then there was this whole mess with my transcript getting lost, and i had to wait a whole month! everything has a way of working out. i got into the ultra-competitive nursing program only to figure out that i dont even want to be a nurse. had i not gotten in, it would really not have been the end of the world. |

Yesss I am done too!!! The past MONTH has been pure hell, because instead of having final exams, all of my professors opted to give us massive final papers and projects. So for weeks I've been running around to the library or the coffee shop, where I indulged in a few too many I-deserve-this cookies and pastries. Woops. But amazingly I don't think I gained. Now that it is break, I am dedicated to losing again. Does anyone else feel like it's easier to lose when you're not in school? I know I lost a ton of weight over summer, but then plataued more or less during fall semester. |

| Foods | NEW Walden Farms 0 calorie peanut butter spread??? | Dec 04 2007 00:42 (UTC) |

I bought the chocolate dip at Luckys. It was in the section of diabetic foods because it's sugar free. Now I haven't experimented with it too much yet, but the taste on its own is just okay. kind of strange. but i agree that it tastes better when combined with other things. I got those little 100-cal pack shortbread cookies, spread a tiny bit of peanut butter, and then topped it with the walden farms chocolate spread and it was super good. So yeah. I think it would also be really good in smoothies, in oatmeal, mixed with a banana and peanut butter to make a pudding, in ice cream, i dont know. I'm excited to experiment with it some more. |
