| Weight Loss | Why are you overweight/obese? | Apr 20 2007 01:13 (UTC) |

| I'm not really overweight, but I'd be a lot skinnier if I didn't:
1. eat b/c of stress, depression, boredom, loneliness, etc. for emotional comfort, escape, etc. 2. starve myself in the day and binge eat on junk food, especially at night |

| Oh dear, I binged today. I had a 2000 cal day, then binged after dinner (guess b/c dinner wasn't that satisfying)...but mostly on healthy stuff, like PB&J sandwich, yogurt, orange, popcorn, hummus & carrots, crackers & cream cheese, porridge, and a sugar cookie (okay that wasn't healthy) -- basically enough for tomorrow. I would've continued eating, but then I realized that these foods weren't even that worthwhile to binge on, since I eat them everyday! So I felt bad, went out to the store and got a gallon of water (while debating whether to buy a box of choco chip cookies -- ended up not buying them, thank god). Then I got home and felt bad again, and went exercising for 2 hours (even though I had already exercised an hour this morning). I hope what happened today won't recur... Here's what I learned from today:
1. Binging on healthy food makes you feel bad (ie 'I just ate what I was supposed to eat tomorrow'), whereas binging on junk food makes you feel guilty ('I shouldn't have eaten that'). 2. You'll never binge as much on healthy food as you do binging on junk food, both in terms of quantity and calories. 3. Justifying binging by thinking 'I'll go exercise later' is definitely not a good idea... |

| Okay so I skipped exercise on Sunday and didn't do anything -- literally, I just stayed in my room for practically the whole day. The only good thing is that I didn't eat that much (just one meal when I woke up). Yesterday (Monday), I ate properly and went back to my normal workout. Today I'm going to try to do the same...I'll try to hit the gym early in the morning, around 8 AM. I'll let you guys know how it goes! Good luck to everyone today and keep us posted! |

| reffy, I think instead of cutting back on breakfast/lunch, you should up your calories and eat more at dinner, so you won't be hungry and end up binging. At 1200 cal, you're barely at the minimum... | |||
| Weight Loss | Confused about frame size | Apr 16 2007 04:00 (UTC) |

| I usually don't trust websites that tell you about frame size. I know I have a small frame (just by comparing myself with other people), but by measuring my wrists, I always get that I'm a medium frame. | |||
| Weight Loss | I'm really full but I'm craving an apple. should I eat one? | Apr 16 2007 03:55 (UTC) |

| An apple will not make you fat. Even if you're eating 5 apples a day, you're eating FAR below what you should be eating, especially if you want to gain weight. Edited Apr 16 2007 04:01 by pandajenn19 Reason: Removed inflammatory portion of post |

| lessthan100, I know what you're talking about. It's really bad to think that way, and I used to do it too. I would often binge eat, then exercise for like 3 hours and/or starve the next day. I would always tell myself, 'it's okay to eat 2000 cal now because I'll be burning it all off', or 'tomorrow I won't eat anything so it's fine to eat whatever I want now'. That's a really bad way of thinking, and it's also a form of bulimia. I think eating regular meals help curb the binges, because then you won't be starving yourself all day and binging at night, and you'll be looking forward to eating the next day (ie, this is not going to be your last meal on earth). | |||

| Weight Loss | Eating too much? | Apr 15 2007 19:52 (UTC) |

| Sorry, but 122 lb is really skinny for a 5'9 girl. If you 'lower your goal' any further, you're only going to ruin your health. Plus, if you get too skinny, you'll lose your curves, your period, etc. (if you haven't already). 2600 cal is actually NORMAL for a teen of your dimensions. I know that I eat that much for maintenance, and I'm only 5'6. | |||
| Weight Loss | I feel a binge coming on | Apr 15 2007 11:53 (UTC) |

| Yeah, to sum up what other people have said: don't let yourself be too hungry (or you'll ravage everything in sight), or if you must binge, binge on healthy, low cal food like fruits, veggies, etc. until you get full. Working as a food server really sucks if you're trying to lose weight, since you always get freebies and you always end up eating them (I know I gained 5-10 lbs from working a few months). Next time, even if there's leftover food, don't take it home or you'll feel 'obligated' to eat it. | |||

| Weight Loss | who are we to say what's "normal"? | Apr 15 2007 11:46 (UTC) |
5 |
| It's all about portion control (according to FDA standards). As long as you eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full, it's 'normal' eating. If you need to rely on calorie counting, I think that's definitely not normal. | |||

| It probably boosts metabolism by making you more energized -- all that caffeine (same with coffee). I drink the berry flavor 3x a week (because it tastes good, not because it's supposed to burn calories). | |||

| Diet slushies! Just blend together a fruity diet drink mix (Crystal Light, etc.) with ice and diet sprite. You can sip/munch on it for a while and it's practically zero calories! | |||

| I love the berry flavor, but the peach flavor is icky. The green tea flavor is okay. I think I drink it about 3x a week (I'd drink it more, but I'm trying to cut down on diet soda). It's supposed to help promote weight loss if you drink 3 cans, although I'm not sure how many people really would do that. | |||

| Recipes | i wanna discuss the worst foods in the world with people top 10 bad foods | Apr 15 2007 10:54 (UTC) |

| My 'foods that are bad (but that taste SO good)' list would be:
1. cream puffs 2. fried onion rings 3. General Tso's chicken 4. Starbuck's Strawberry & Creme drinks 5. Coldstone ice cream w/Reese's mixins 6. funnel cake w/sugar & powder (aka fried dough) 7. Krispy Kreme donuts 8. Fried fish sticks w/tartar sauce 9. Pizza Hut's Supreme deep dish pizza 10. hot fudge brownies w/chocolate fudge topping Notice how 4 out of the 10 foods have the word 'cream' or a variation of it. |

| I wasn't planning to exercise today, but I did anyways (since I hadn't exercised yesterday). So there goes my first week. Although I ended up eating far more the past few days than I would've liked.
cerhiunnhn, I eat a lot of fruits everyday too. Like today I had 2 apples and an orange. Sometimes I'll eat 4-5 pieces of fruits. I love fruits (all sorts -- sweet, crunchy, sour, liquidy, etc.), and they're a lot healthier than say, candy. |

| I ate a lot of junk food tonight, an almost binge, but I think that it'll be okay. I stopped after I ate an apple and an orange. It helps to think 'I'll still be eating tomorrow' and that whatever I wanted to binge on will still there there tomorrow. | |||
| Foods | Anyone want to throw out the word "binge" and use "indulge" instead? | Apr 13 2007 13:21 (UTC) |
1 |
| Yeah, binge and indulge are definitely not the same. Binging means eating a LOT of food, but not necessarily food that I enjoy. Most of the time, I would never have eaten those kind of foods. Whereas, when I think of indulging, I think of a high-calorie food that I will actually ENJOY when I eat it, whether I eat a little or a lot. I definitely don't enjoy binging, and I derive very little enjoyment from the foods that I binge on when I binge on them. Binging makes me de-value food, while indulging makes me value food, if that makes sense. | |||

| Ack, I was awake all night. But I did go to the gym last night around 9 PM and ran for an hour. I also went to this supermarket near my dorm, and got 2 boxes of brownie mixes. I'm hoping to make the diet coke brownies that got so much praise on this site.
I doubt I'll be able to work out today, since some of my friends and I are going to the mall, having dinner there, and seeing "Blades of Glory" later tonight. Hope everyone else won't be like me! |

| Weight Loss | eating 6 times a day instead of 3. | Apr 12 2007 22:47 (UTC) |

| It doesn't work for me, because I prefer to stick to 3 'big' meals. Plus if I were to have 6 meals a day, I feel like I'd be too busy to remember to eat.
But other people like having 6 meals because they're constantly eating. |

| Don't buy the diet pills, they usually have dangerous side effects and the weight will almost always come back once you stop taking them. You need to change yourself and how you think before anything else. Rather than thinking on 'controlling' your body, think about eating to replenish your body. Don't focus on the bad things, like 'I gained weight recently'; think about things in your life that are positive. The more you beat yourself up about it, the more you'll resort to food as a way out, an escape. Try to talk to a friend about your feelings or about other things in your life. | |||
| Weight Loss | Is this binging? | Apr 12 2007 02:13 (UTC) |
|
| 2 bowls of cereal is normal. It might be more than what you eat normally, but it's by no means a binge. A binge would be like a whole box of cereal. You just overate today. Don't worry about it, you're skinny for your height. | |||

| Ran 3.5 miles, walked 1.5 miles, all in 50 minutes, and luckily, my legs didn't cramp up today. I felt really good when I ran today, kinda like I was soaring. Maybe it's because I'm getting lighter. The scale showed 135 today after I ran -- it might be due to water loss, but I haven't been under 135 lb for...6 years. I feel like I'm taking, slowly but surely, one more step towards my dream.
Same for me too, 15 lbs to go... |
