Weight Loss When it's only 11:00 am and you screw it. HELP ME OUT! Oct 31 2009

I've done the same thing in the past--don't beat yourself up!  Eat the duck and soup in small portions (sounds delicious) and get back on track tomorrow.  You're young and you obviously care about getting to the right weight so you've got two marks in your favor.  It's hard to pass up the sweets but that's something you'll have to come to terms with--but what's done is done and one day won't make you balloon up.  Good luck.

Congrats!  You look great.  For what it's worth here's my opinion on surgery--I think you should check into it.  I'm 55 and lost 70 pounds 2 years ago.  I've kept the weight off but the skin issue sucks.  I'm OK with it but if I were your age I would go for the surgery if I could afford it.  You're too young to worry about something that can be fixed!  Stay healthy and have a beautiful life!

Maintaining maintaining 'mindset' Nov 24 2008

I reached my goal weight last year in October, I lost over 60 lbs.  I know what you mean about the "failure" feeling when you step on the scales--over the past year I've gradually lost 10 more pounds.  I still feel great and I'm starting to think I'll never be overweight again, but maintaining is really hard mentally.  I think gi-jane is right about bucking the trend--it's just going to be a life time challenge to find the right balance.  I think of it almost like a hobby now and that seems to help.  Best of luck to you!

Hey, I have to reply too!  You sound so happy about the tournament and I'm happy for you!  I'm new to tennis and I really suck, but it is the BEST exercise and so much fun.  I think having a great outlet like tennis will keep you healthy--when you eat the right things you'll have more energy to chase down the balls.  It's just part of a lifestyle change that will keep the weight off and keep your focus on listening to your body.  It's working for me even if I could never dream of winning a tournament!

I think anyone interested in maintaining should read Michael Pollan's book--it will help make you aware of your food choices and encourage mindful eating.
Weight Loss When do people notice? Aug 25 2007

I've lost 46 lbs (from 188 to 142), no one noticed till about 20 lbs--but I bet when you go back to school EVERYONE will notice.  And that's really motivating!  You're smart to come to grips with this at your age (I'm 53)--but I see why photojen is a little worried.  Hope you combine your great attitude with some kind of exercise you like, you've got many healthy years to go and you'll look great!
