Hey all-lots of successes for everyone I see-YAY! Sunshine Lisa-good luck with that interview. I got super lucky, and I totally chalk it up to right place/right time because apparently he had been advertising the job for a couple months and had only gotten unqualified resumes. Now, that being said, I admit, I am overqualified for the job in a way, and he knows he is getting me at a real bargain, but I was just happy to get a job in the first place. This is an office management job for a conference planning company-however my background is in non-profit organizations, so this is a switch, but I am happy with my decision so far! So my weigh in day was today and it looks like I am still at 141. Whcih is fine, I thought it was going to say 144 or 145. I have been feeling really tummy bloated lately. I know I am losing because my boobs are definitely smaller (not a good thing-they are tiny to begin with!) and my butt seems to fill out my pants less-but my stomach still feels huge. I'm really hoping I can officially go down a pants size soon, but not with this tummy! I have been eating out A LOT, but trying super hard to be good. Last night I had grilled salmon and grilled zucchini. Both were pretty flavorful, so I am sure had enough sodium to melt some northern ice...could be why I feel so bloated. I think this week is the beginning of my 7th week dieting and I have lost 7 pounds. I REALLY hope I can kick it into gear and get rid of that 6 pounds I have left. It would be awesome if by next week's weigh in I could see a magical #3 in the second number of my weight! |

Hi all-So I decided to officially NOT take the other job being offered, and started to pursue other opportunities. Luckily, I landed an interview right away, and have already accepted another job! Woo-hoo! I'll start teh first week of Feb. I'm super excited as it is a more flexible position, with interesting benefits (other than health), and opportunity for growth! In fact, there is a full kitchen in the offices, which will hopefully motivate me to bring healthy snacks and lunches and not eat out during lunch. Yay! Unfortunately, with the stress of having guests recently (sis left earlier this week) and the idea that I might be looking for work for a while, I think I put a couple ponds back. I'm not sure, because my weigh day is Monday, but I feel it in my pants. The belly is protruding a bit more than last week, let's just say. Also, I have had a headache for about 3 days now-probably weather and stress related, and hoping not diet related. I think I might hop back on phase one a week and see if it helps the belly issue. I really don't want to ruin what I have done already!!! I keep getting compliments about how much thinner I look, and I want to keep them coming!!! Sun-you rock!!! Keep playing with Wii for sure! I gotta get motivated and get active again. Have a good weekend everyone! LB |

Hi everyone- Yep, I'm still laid off, and still have not made a decision about the other job they offered. I have yet to actually speak with the person running that department, and I am not getting a very welcoming vibe, so I am probably going to say no and take my chances elsewhere. It is sad, but I am not really willing to sacrifice more of my personal life for a harder job with the same amount of $. I'd rather work less and make less for a better quality of life. Luckily my hubby does well :) I'm thinking about getting my dog to work for me----maybe she can be a dog model? LOL. She is actually gorgeous, and whenever we are out together, she is always the most popular dog anywhere we go. I'm a proud mama! Anyway, it seems I have lost another 1/2 pound as of today, which puts me 5.5 pounds to go until my goal! I think I am going to start getting more physical, now that I have the diet down pat-hoping it will make that 5.5 pounds shed a bit faster and stay away longer! Congrats to all for all the loss! Way to go! LB |

Sun, Hope the procedure went well. I don't think I would ever be able to drink that stuff without puking. As it is, I barely drink anything at all, I would never be able to put down that much liquid. So-I got back from home again on Tuesday night, and Wednesday morning got dressed up for work, having a sneaking suspicion that "something" was up there. Lo, and behold, I got in and was laid off. I knew it!!! Stupid economy. They did offer me another position in another dept, but it is definitely a completely different job, and while I am usually a super-flexible person and can roll with the punches, I am not sure the newer job meshes with my lifestyle. I feel lucky to have the opportunity, but I am not ready to make a decision yet. Meanwhile, through the funerals, and the lay off, my diet has been seriously thwarted. Haven't been grocery shopping in ages, and eating out ALL the time. I have tried to maintain some sense of diet decorum, but it has been extremely difficult. Thus, I must admit, in the last week: 3 bagels, 2 rolls, 5 cookies, and several hand fulls of potato chips, not to mention several secret delicious swigs of REAL coke. I can't lie-it was amazing. Luckily, I don't seem to have gained any weight back, but it feels like it, so I am trusting the feeling rather than the scale. I am trying super hard to get back on track, and I packed a very south beachy lunch for today that will hopefully get me there again. I still won't be able to grocery shop until Sunday probably, thanks to my crazy schedule. :( Hope everyone's Thursdays are shaping up to be good days so far! LB |

Hey all, Got back from my quick trip home for my friends funeral. It was pretty terrible, but awesome to see old friends and and catch up. My friend Brian sure knew how to bring people together:) Got bad news this evening-probably have to turn right back around in a couple days because my grandmother is not doing well. She is 95 and has been sick for a while. It's just been a terribly emotional week to say the least. Thanks to all of it, it seems I am not as hungry as I used to be. Can't really stomach much right now. I was able to crunch down some Wasa crackers and cottage cheese, but that was before I heard the news about my grandmother. Now I am just nauseous. Sorry for the "downer" post again. I'll be back to normal soon I hope. LB

Thank you Sunshine for the great list of choices at Disney etc. I did enjoy the food at Epcot-we ate at the Moroccan place and it was expensive but worth it! By garbage I meant junk food. Burgers, hot dogs, fries, pizza, pretzels, popcorn, etc etc-which don't get me wrong-I LOVE...just not on South Beach :( It is possible your yucky feelings might be you are just not eating enough. On my first week, I was worried I wasn't eating enough calories overall. You should maybe increase your portion sizes, or add in extra cheese or beans to your salad, have a bigger piece of protein with your meals. If you need a sweet fix-try the sugar free york peppermint patties or Reese's peanut butter cups-each one has about 35 calories, and is a small but "sweet" treat. Sun-I know what you mean about the cleaning frenzy-my husband is Canadian, which as you might know, means that we get a TON of visitors in FL this time of year. It is as if we are a southern suburb of Montreal and Toronto! So-I just didn't have time last week when his mom came in, so I just called a cleaning service for the first time EVER. It was amazing coming home to a clean house at teh end of teh day...again, expensive but worth it every once in a while. |

Hi Friends, Well-it is unfortunate, but my friend passed away on New Years Day. He really did live a life that was very full, and while it is sad, the doctors were able to help save 7 other people with his organs. He would be happy knowing that he was able to help people after all. I will be heading home later this week for the funeral, so I will get to hang with the old college crew and reminisce properly with my old friends. That being said-today is my first anniversary with the hubs. We spent the weekend at Disney, and I honestly think my feet are broken from all the walking. However, thanks to all that walking, I was able to keep off weight that otherwise would have been gained due to that gross food they serve at those parks. To be fair, Epcot has some pretty decent food, but the rest was garbage. I did cheat, and it was heaven. I had a couple bites of chocolate/peanut butter fudge, a bit of pizza, and I ate bread at dinner! IT WAS AMAZING. Seriously, bread is like eating cake. But back to work on South Beach!!! I was lucky to weigh in at 143 today-I am officially 5 pounds down from my start. I'll take it! Glad to hear everyone is doing well...welcome Sunshine Lisa! I think that makes 3 of us Floridians here. I totally get your frustrations about your weight. I know it is tough when you are unemployed and there is nothing better to do than snack, but instead, drink a glass of crystal lite, or hot tea. OR-with all that time on your hands, go for a walk-even a short one. The weather is fantastic! Keep up the good work everyone! LB |

Happy New Year to all! I've had a rough couple of days as I learned that an old friend is in the hospital on life support (he overdosed on drugs at a "holiday" party). I'm super sad, and angry. This is something I predicted for him a LONG time ago. I thought he turned himself around, and stopped hanging out with that crowd of people, but he didn't. I've been anxiously awaiting updates from friends back home about his progress, via facebook and emails. It's a hard time for me, because I know if I was in town, I would be there to support his friends and family. In a sense I sort of feel like I am missing something, as the old college crew is gathering in Baltimore--The Big Chill style. Thanks to my stress I had a strong urge to do some emotional eating. Somehow I held steady. I think the decent size dinner helped---and I only had a pudding after dinner. I'm actually super hungry now (lunchtime) as I forgot to pack a snack-and I ate cereal for the first time this morning (Kashi Go Lean). Congrats to all for maintaining or losing during the holiday season! (oh and sorry for the bummer post) |

Booooo! I was right---I'm up 1.5 pounds as of today. Such a bummer. But boy did I enjoy my phase 2 oatmeal and strawberries this morning! I don't have time in the morning to cook the real oatmeal, so I found Quaker weight control Maple cinnamon flavor, and it was pretty good! I think the calorie to fiber ratio is pretty decent too. Anyone have any suggestions on non-fat, AND sugar free yogurt brands? I can't seem to find any in that combo. They are either full fat and sugar free, or non fat and lots of sugar. Annoying! I do like the greek style yogurt-any thoughts on that kind? There is still sugar in it, but it's low fat and VERY filling! I'm sticking to this South Beach diet no matter what! I am confident that i will lose more-even if it is slowly. I should defintely try to be more physical -that should help. I'm just soooo lazy! |

Blah! I haven't weighed myself in several days for fear of what it says. I have been so diligant! What happened!?!? I'll do it on Monday. I just hope South Beach doesn't betray me like last time-lol. Monday I start phase 2. Then next weekend I go to Disneyworld with the hubs for our 1 year anniversary! It's going to be hard to stay good. I might have to put myself back on phase 1 to make up for the vacation. :( I know with all that running around Disney all weekend, I'm going to need much more calories to make it through those long days. I'll pack nuts-but what else will stay good while we are out for so long? Any suggestions? I just don't want to be lured in to tempting snacks at the parks..... LB |

Thanks for the advice Ice, I will definitely try to find a Penn Dutch somewhere near me. What I hate about Publix is that they prepackage a lot of the veggies. For example, I wanted one zucchini for a recipe, but they only came prepackaged in that styrofoam tray with 4 in there! I knew I would never be able to use them soon enough, so I just skipped it in the recipe. That has happened a few other times too, with different veggies-plus, sometimes they throw in a rotting one for good measure. (At least, it has happened to me once or twice-and others I have heard from). Ooh, and once we bought my mother in law Lactaid from there and when we opened it, it was the foulest smell we have ever dealt with. YUCK! I actually sprayed air freshener througout the house. Anyway-South Beach is kicking my ass today. I'm feeling thinner, yes-but also weak, I have a killer headache, and am on the verge of a very bad digestive situation, if you know what I mean. I am forcing myself to eat, even though I am not hungry. Maybe I am getting sick? Maybe it's South Beach. Who knows? I'm counting the calories pretty diligently, and maybe my portion sizes are all off, but my calorie count just doesn't come out high enough most every day. I don't control my portions at all, but I keep coming up with somewhere between 1090-1200 calories every day. I'm chalking it up to not knowing my portion sizes correctly. I should probably tack on about 250 to every day total. I can't wait till phase 2!!!!!! Good luck to everyone over this holiday season! It will be hard for me too! LB

Thanks for the good tips! I DO love nuts and beans, and I have been careful with the portion sizes on the nuts, but I put chickpeas on every salad, for that extra protein kick. So I probably eat a lot more calories than I am supposed to with those chickpeas. It's hard for me right now to eat a lot of meat based meals because it is so expensive! (I keep kosher so kosher meat is super expensive in relation to non-kosher). So beans and tuna fish suffice for a lot of meals. Last night I made turkey meatloaf for the hubs and I and he devoured it-barely left me a small piece for lunch today!! Sun123- I live in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I have heard of Souper Salad, but I don't think we have it here. You know what else we don't have that I miss? Trader Joe's! Just super expensive Whole Foods, and generic Publix here. I also really miss a good farmer's market. I did a weigh in yesterday morning and it looks like I'm 3 pounds down! Yay! 10 more to go! Hopefully this week will be another success. LB |

Hey folks, thanks for the welcome! Some experience questions? Is it ok that my portions are usually bigger than the suggested South Beach portions? I have been finding that the recipes that say they are for 4 servings, really seem to be like 2.5 for me Also, have you all ever tried the sugar free york peppermint patties, or sugar free reese's cups? Is it ok if I am tricking my brain into thinking it is the real thing, or am I setting myself up for disaster? I eat one as a treat every day and it totally satisfies my sweet tooth. Each peppermint pattie only has 30 calories and each reese's cup only has 35! SO WORTH IT!!!! Today we ate out for lunch and dinner. Busy day. Anyway, I went to salad bar place for lunch so it was cool (ever heard of Sweet Tomatoes anywhere else? It is awesome! I live in Florida). Then for dinner we went to a steak place-I probably ate more steak than I was supposed to, but it was divine. And I drooled as my husband ate the yummy bread. But I ate a heaping portion of steamed veggies to make sure I didn't eat the whole steak. I probably had about 1/3 of it. It was huge! Anyway, hope everyone is having a good weekend! LB |

Hi! I'm new "again" on calorie count, but I am hoping this time will stick. I just finished day 5 of South Beach. I am amazingly not hungry, but I am still craving the good stuff. I was so good today---tons of sweets in my office, and even at home, and I walked right by. I tried South Beach about 4 years ago when I thought I had something to lose. I actually stayed on it for 4 weeks and I lost ZERO! I have gained about 25 pounds since then, and have been eating very well- I LOVE cake, cookies, and chocolate. So I am hoping I can kick about 13 pounds in the next few months. So far, I "think" I have lost something-I will see on Monday when I weigh myself at the one week mark. Anyway-just wanted to say hi, and hoopefully get some advice from time to time about staying on the wagon....sooo hard! LB |

| I used to get them constantly, now usually once a year, when overly stressed or sick.
When I first feel it coming on(that tingly feeling) I stick a q-tip in a bit of vodka and dab it on! the alcohal dries up the spot, and kind of halts it in it's tracks. Also, as lori3522 said, tea tree oil can work well in the beginning also. Best of all is Zovirax! Get it from your doc, and if you can't, get some abreva if you can't catch it from coming out. Good luck! |

| oh wow, UTIs are my arch-nemesis! Before I moved in with my boyfriend (now fiance) I had a series of awful UTIs. Some were so bad that I passed blod clots, which obviously freaked me out. Each time I went to the doctor (my gyno at the time), he blew it off, and prescribed me antibiotics, which almost never worked. I would have less pain/symptoms for a few days, but that nasty UTI would fight back...HARD.
After trying a few different antibiotics, the UTI finally went away. The next THREE were treated with the same drug, and it was ok, but by no means good. I decided it was time to switch docs, to a woman. She suggested, just as a precausion that I see a urologist. So I did, and she was awesome. I had a cystoscopy (which was awful, but I am a big baby) and it came back clear. However, after the procedure, I was UTI free for quite some time. I thought maybe (the doc did not confirm this) that the tube widened my urethra, which allowed the bacteria to expel more easily. Anyway, after all is said and done, I had one more horrific UTI the NIGHT I moved in w/ my fiance, and we went to the hospital in the middle of the night. After that, UTI free for over a year!!!! The trick: I drink 5 times more water these days (which is still not enough). I pee immediately after sex, even if it is just a drip. Sometimes, depending on the night, I "clean up" a bit after sex. The minute I feel that slight burn when I pee, I ingest a ton of water, which usually nips it in the bud! And that's it! Hopefully those buggers will stay away! |

| I've been on lots of pills too...different syptoms with each but I always switched because of spotting in the middle of my cycle. I am now on Ovcon-35 (now called Femcon) and I STILL have spotting. My doc suggested the Nuva-ring, for a more localized effect, but it kinda creeps me out, and I have read that some people have to keep pushing it back up. Scary.
I DO think that Ovcon has contributed to my weight gain over the last 1.5 years. But I also believe it could be my age (turning 29),that I quit smoking, and that I now have a desk job and the fact that I hang out with high school and college kids all the time (work). What I know for sure is that I am now watching myself very carefully! Hoping for 10 pounds by July. Weeeeeee! |

| HI Everyone,
I'm a newbie to the site, so I am checking out all the features, and came across this group. I'm almost 29, in a new city, working waaaay too many hours, and have gained at least 10 pounds since moving here last August. I owe it to eating gross food at work (I work with college kids) and quitting smoking...not to mention not having enough time or energy to do anything active. Blah. So, just trying to take a step in the right direction. My boyfriend and I have pledged to eat better, and do something active every day (starting Sunday). I have already started watching the calories, and so far so good. Nice to meet you all! LB |
