Weight Loss Anyone in their 20's?? Apr 30 2008

Hey everyone - NEW HERE!!!

So here's the shot version of my story:

Always been a littl chubby, started trying to lose weight seriously for the first time last spring, started at about 180 and by fall made it down to 132, I LOVVVVED the way I looked and felt but was getting crazy obsessed with counting calories, so I took a one week break from doing so. Well that one week break stretched on and on... I started binging when the idea of going back to calorie-counting felt too difficult... Long story short, I kept eating way too much on a normal basis, and binging at least a few times per week...and I gained back about 30 of the 50 lbs I lost. Now I'm at about 160 and feel awful about the way I look. So far this week I've gone without binging for 3 days, and I'm determined to never do it again. I want so desperately to get back to the "skinny me", so I'm doing this calorie counting thing again.

Hopin you all can help support me and I will do the same for you.

yeahh, the cheese thing is hard because most of the time I'm eating in the school dining hall. Are there any types of cheese that are naturally lower in fat than others? Like parmesan instead of cheddar or feta?

Hey... I recently been thinking about trying the SBD, mainly because of my carb cravings. I've lost a good deal of weight mainly by counting calories, but lately I've gained a lot of it back, mainly by bingeing on carbs. I think the only way to lose this weight again would be to stop these carb cravings. But I have a few questions for you all....

#1) Do I really NOT need to count calories??? I'm afraid I'll eat too much without counting calories....

#2) How much weight should I expect to lose during the first two weeks? (I'm at 155 now looking to get to 125)

#3) Can someone give me some basic menu ideas? Keep in mind I have the resources of a college dining hall.

#4) Does excercise play a role in the SBD?

#5) I'm a moderately active athlete (equestrian), can I expect to still have enough energy, especially during phase one, to compete effectively, without the carbs?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!! (you can eply here, message me, or both!)
Foods Panera, good or bad for weight loss? Mar 27 2008

Yep, I look at Panera as a special treat meal. It works out great for me because my college friends go to eat their all the time. I can anticipate when we're going to go and plan out my meals for the day so I can have what I want there, but even if we go unexpectedly I know that there are light, healthy options for me to enjoy (i.e. veggie soup, a 1/2 salad, and apple side for under 500 calories) LOVE IT!

I disagree - I've eaten Panera at least twice per week through most of my dit and have lot weight consistently. Just gotta be smart about it, all of their nutritional info is on the website (and I have all my favorite meals memorized by now) Here are some of my favorite meals:

Veggie Soup (90cals)

Black Bean Soup (160 cals)

Chicken Noodle Soup (100 cals)

Fuji Apple Chicken Salad (290 cals for a half portion)

Orchard Harvest Salad, no chicken (220 cals for half, 440 for full)

Smokehouse Turkey Panini (350 for half portion)

I use these options when building a you-pick-two meal for between 310 and 510 calories. If you're going to eat a side, go for the apple, about 70 calories I'd guess. The whole grain baguette is another 240 calories (ouch!)
Games & Challenges Challenge - no dessert for 1 month Mar 27 2008

I'm a little late - but I'm with thi challenge!

I'm cutting out cookies, cake, pastries, and chocolate... sweet stuff is my weakness. I think I'll also try to cut out, or at least severely limit my yogurt/fruit/cereal bowls. Pretty healthy but for some reason triggers me to crave sweeter things. Chocolate and chocolate chip cookies are my downfall! I think if I can go a few weeks without them I will stop craving them so much.

On another note, today is officially my first day BACK on the wagon. I've had a lot of trouble these past 6 months, when before that I wasa dieter others would idolize, ha. Well.... I want to lose about twenty more lbs to get down to my goal weight of 125, and this no dessert challange should definitely help!

Hey guys!

I'm 21 (YAY), and trying to lose weight. I was down to 135 by last September (from about 175) but then I starting bingeing (sigh), and have been struggling with that for a few months now. Unfortunately I gained about 10-15lbs with all the bingeing, but lately I think I've gotten some control back. The last time I binged was Saturday, but as long as I don't do it today (and I WON'T) then these four days in a row will be the longest I've gone totally diet-perfect in a while. I was pretty good last week too, but ate slightly over maintenence two days in a row. This week, I've been doing well, and have excercised every day this week, with a pretty intense team workout coming up in about an hour. Basically I 've just gotten sick of hating myself after each binge, and I want to LOVE the way I look again. I'm feelin pretty good today and want to keep it going. Ok so there's my into, here are my stats:

Starting weight- 175

Current weight - not sure, my scales broken, but I think around 145.

Goal, by Mid-June - 125

I'm going back for a second year of working at a summer camp in PA, can't wait to see all my friends, and want to snag a great guy for nice little summer romance ;-)

I guess I kinda feel this way. You see, I like to prepare my meals to get the most/best out of the calorie I allow myself. So, for instance, when I have a big bowl of soup for lunch and a sandwich for which I cooked up some onions and roasted tomatos and grilled turkey, and I arrange everything on the plate, ometimes I feel like my family looks at me like "well, aren't you eating a lot?" When, in fact, I'm eating less than half the calories they're getting from some frozen meal or a big sandwich they just sloppily throw together. Grrrr, it frustrates me...
Recipes Ricotta Cheese Ideas? Dec 15 2007

I just used ricotta cheese (Sargento-Fat Free) in my dinner tonight! Here's my recipe:

Two Weight Watchers whole-wheat pitas (100 cals each)

Spread 1/4C cheese on each pita (50 cals for1/4C),

top with fresh basil leaves (2cals),

 roasted garlic (10 cals),

and tomato slices (33 cals).

Season with salt and pepper. Bake in the oven at 375 degrees for about 15-20 minutes, I kept mine in for a while because I wanted the pitas to be crispy.

Pretty yummy dinner or lunch for less than 400 calories! Next time, I might add some broccoli to bulk it up a little, or some onions.

I was totally going to pick up a bog chocolate chip & m&m cookie, because I've been craving one SOOOOOOOOOOO badly... but then I made myself check in here and read a few posts, so I think I'll avoid the cookie. I'm going into the city to visit my grandpa, and I think part of me wanted to sabatoge my diet before I went in, so that I could have an unhealthy lunch with him and not feel too badly about it. Shame on me!

Molly- that post was incredible! You should be so proud.

Today marks my third day in a row of "perfect eating" as I like to call it. Ussually weekend are when I slip up, so I've tried to guard against that this weekend by buying my own food so that I can avoid the university dining hall, where I often wind up binging on unhealthy foods. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to plan out nice meals, so I'm mostly stuck with lean cuisine & healthy choice frozen meals and canned soups, plus my usual breakfast of FF yogurt or Kashi cereal and fruit. I just want the weekend to finish without me failing to keep up the healthy eating, which will mark 5 days of "perfect eating," the longest stretch of time for me since I've started binging! I just keep reminding myself that I could give in to my cravings at any time, but the shame and depression that follows my unhealthy eating far outweighs any pleasures.

Okay - heading out to the gym, ttyl!

hey Amy,

I think this goal is just the kick in the butt I need. You see, I lost about 40lbs between last winter and this fall, but over the past few months I've gained about 15lbs of it back, mostly in a binge/starve/binge cycle :-( However, I'm determined to quickly lose that weight so I can continue onto my goal of 125lbs by the spring. I LOVED how I looked and felt at 135 at the end of the summer, but I want to be even a bit skinnier than that. This time of year is tough for me, with tons of schoolwork & stress, but I'm trying to get to the gym nearly every day. I've been working on my abs a lot and have some pretty firm muscles under my belly fat, I just wanna get rid of that layer to show off my six-pack! lol....  Sooo yeah, I'm off to a good start, about a week without any major binging, I had one day where I had a mini-binge but it was mostly healthy food and nowhere near the extra thousands of calories I can pack on during a major binge, and one day of unhealthy eating, but probably didn't go over by too many calories, plus 4 days of perfect 1200-calories. I'm doing good today so far, made myself by a frozen lunch (Amy's Roasted Veggie Pocket Sandwich, 230 cals) to avoid going to the dining hall alone for lunch before my riding lesson, a time I've binged during several occasions. Since lunch is usually when I screw up and start binging, making it through that time will set me up for success for the rest of the day! I'll probably pick up dinner from Panera after my practice tonight. I hate spending money on food, since my funds are kinda limited right now, but I keep telling myself that spending some cash in order to keep my eating in line is better than saving money and binging on free food, right? I talked about it with my mom when I was home for Thanksgiving, and she remined me that I need to keep myself focused on my diet goals. So I figure spending some money on the foods I need to keep me in line is just part of that equation.

Haha, sorry for the crazy-long post... I got a little carried away with myself. Come on guys, we can do this!!!

3rd day binge-free. I hope its for good now. I feel so much more FREE without a past binge weighing me down (literally & figuratively!) Without binging, I can focus on everything else, anything else, other than food! When I'm binging, of course the only thing I can think about is the food I'm eating or about to eat, and after I've binged, all I can think about is starving mmyself to make up for it. Not binging/starving allows me to eat and then move on with my life, its so much easier.... alo working-out becomes more fun, because I'm not doing it to cancel out any "bad-eating" but instead to get in shape. I've been working on my abs like crazy, I have so much muscle under those few inches of fat that I really want the fat to disappear so I can show off my six-pack! Lol

I'm typing this before driving home for the week for Thanksgiving... I know it will be a tough week, but I'm at least going to try to make every day BUT Thanksgiving a perfect diet day... and if I slip up a little bit on thursday, so be it. I WILL NOT USE THANKSGIVING AS AN EXCUSE TO BINGE. I will enjoy the good food but I will enoy being with my family even more.

Okay, I love you guys and know how hard it is.... just try to clear your minds a little bit and get things into perspective. Keep yourselves busy with other, more satisfying activities. We can do it!

Hey guys! First of all, thanks again to everyone for not minding my "journaling", it feels good to just vent here sometimes.

So I had an all-day horse show today - was up at 4:45am and didn't get home until about 9pm LOOONG DAY!!! Usually horse show days are tough for me because my trainer packs the bus with tons of yummy butunhealthy foods for us - I'm talking pop-tarts, homemade cookies, chips & homemade cheesy dip, muffins, tons of bagels & cream cheese, donuts, munchkins, chocolate bars, cheeze-its, and soda. Seriously, all that was there today. Luckily there was also a veggie platter - and I managed to just munch on some baby carrots, peppers, and cherry tomatos and avoid absolutely everything else! Did I mention there were also egg sandwiches, brownies, chili, hot dogs, and cheeseburgers for sale inside? Ahh! But I just stuck with the veggies. We stopped at a diner on the way back and I had a grilled chicken sandwich and fries, but other than that all I ate all day was the veggies, so I think it was a very succesful day - especially because I tend to binge on show days. Yay!

Colleen - your pasta sounds great! Don't you love being able to make a yummy dinner thats good for you too? I know I do.

Carrie - good plan with the once a week weighing, I know it helps me relax a little bit and keeps me from getting depressed on day to day fluctuations.

Well tomorrow I have work from 9-1 but then I get to go home for the week! woo-hoo thanksgiving break!

Hey everyone - So yesterday I ate too much, but I am happy it didn't turn into an out-of-control binge for once. Usually when I screw up I just can't stop after that, since I figure the day is ruined anyway. Originally I planned on not eating today, to make up for eating way too much yesterday... By 6:30pm I still hadn't eaten anything... but then I realized that starving myself would just et me up to binge tomorrow. So when my fried and I went into the city tonight to see Cirque du Soliel, I let myself get a sandwich at Cosi. Luckily they had the nutritional info online so I was able to find out that it was only 571 calories. With the two cups of coffee and some almonds I ate tonight, at most I'm up to only 900 calories. I have nothing healthy to eat in here, and I'm really not hungry so I'm done eating for the night.

I watched Dr. Phil today, it was about eating disorders and it really scared me. It made me realize I do have at least a little bit of an eating disorder. Unless something distracts me, all I can think about is food. Do I eat? Don't eat? Eat everything in sight? Starve myself? How many calories is that??? What am I going to eat later? Should I not eat anything now because I might be drinking later? How many calories do I have left?? Aghhh it drives me crazy.... I know it's unhealthy but its hard to stop. I need to focus on being HEALTHY. not SKINNY, not FULL... just HEALTHY and happy - which is why I made myself eat something today...

I miss the way I was over the summer - outside all the time (I was a counselor/horseback instructor at a sleepaway summer camp), ate three meals a day & no snacks, I watched my portions and never got seconds, and I ate not because the food was good, but because I was woring hard and needed fuel. I loved my body and was tan, thin, and happy. I want to get back to that soooo badly....

Hey guys- haven't been on this group in a while...I've kinda been battling a little bingeing/starving problem :-( Oh well, I'm working on that... but either way I know that posting regularly on a board like this has been a huge help to me in the past, when I used to stick to my very healthy & nutritious diet without a problem sooooo I want to try to keep up with it again.

Ok, hope you all had a great day. Talk to ya soon!

but then I didn't eat today. Nothing at all.

I know you're all going to yell at me for it, I don't think I've ever gone a day without eating, but I felt like I had to to "cancel out" my binge. Anyway, I'm just being honest...

Well after my bad saturday - I stuck to my 1200 cal diet yesterday, and I'm doing good so far for today. I need to stick with it all week!!! If anything, I recognize that at least my binge days are becoming rarer - now when I eat 1200 calories its more the norm rather than the exception. Go me!

OK I "failed" yesterday.

In my defense, I tried to get my regular healthy lunch at the food truck at our horse show - the only food source. Usually I can get a turkey and tomato pita, or at the very least a veggie burger. Unfortunately the food truck didn't come through  for me - all they had was chicken fingers, fries, mozerell sticks, etc, so I couldn't eat healthy. And yeah, I stayed off-track for the rest of the day. Oh well.

On the bright side, I weighed myself yesterday morning before the show, and was happy to see that I managed to lose 1lb last week despite two days on binging between my weigh-ins, so my plan for this week is to remain binge-free throughout the whole weekand weigh myself again on Saturday morning- hopefully I will see a 2 lb drop!

She is totally my body role model (I look at pics of her for motivation) because she's hot, well DUH, but ESPECIALLY because she's in such great shape. She has strong, muscular legs, like mine - but she also has fabulus abs & arms. She's skinny but not too skinny your afraid she's gonna break, lol. Ahhh I want a body like that!!!!
