Motivation Eating when bored!!!!! Stop the madness!! Mar 24 2009

It's really hard, but it gets easier.  That first time that you say "I'm going to bed without that delicious cookie...or 3!" then you know what? the next day it's so much easier because you exerted that self-discipline!  It's tough when your willpower is broken and sometimes it feels as if you're in a downward spiral, but don't let youself get down.  Just acknowledge that you're human, you ate b/c you were bored, but be able to stop it, go brush your teeth, have some gum or some nice tea...better yet, run up and down the stairs 10 times, exercise is a natural appetite suppresor!  Good luck to us all that have a hard time with this; but we can do it!!! :)

Hi Everyone, what a great idea for a forum!  I'm 26; my husband and I have been together for over 7 years, just married this past summer and we can't wait to start trying for a baby! He's a teacher though so we'd really like to conceive around August/Sept so that we'll have a early summer baby and he can be home with me (though not everything always goes as planned I know).  But we have 7 months until we start trying.  My wedding was a huge motivator for me and I've lost 40lbs so far (gained back 10 after the honeymoon) and am looking to lose another 25.  I think this will be an AWESOME motivator and I'm really looking forward to giving and getting support!

kevans2882, how far in advance do you think prenatals should be started; do you think we're talking a few weeks, or months in advance?  I still have 7 months before we start trying.  Though I have stopped taking the pill (sorry if TMI) becasue I really feel that I want my system clean before we start trying.

At least I'm not gaining!

Thanks for the strong words of encouragement candlilovesjon - I needed to hear it!  My husband and I are heading up to Maine tonight for some hiking and outdoor activity for the weekend; I'm going to use that to jump start my exercising again and carry it over into the week.  We can all do this!

Hey guys, sorry I didn't weigh-in last week - it was kind of crazy.  I'm at 150.0 - still.  Which I guess it's good that I didn't gain, but I'm having a heck of a time trying to eat right and absolutely NO motivation to exercise.  When I wake up in the morning I'm all about eating right and have the best intentions, by the time the afternoon rolls around, I just want to go home, eat some pizza and sit in front of the TV.  I need some motivation big-time!  I have NO IDEA how I lost 36lbs, I can barely maintain, let alone lose the last 20...I'm getting discouraged and frustrated with myself and my horrible choices!!!

....sorry this turned into a 'pooor me' rant, I do feel a little better admitting it though!!! Hope you guys are having better luck than I am and more ambition!

Those who haven't, hang in there!  These last 20lbs for me to lose are somehow much harder than the 35 I've lost so far - we can do it!

Thanks for the motivation candilovesjon, I haven't exercised this week and so I'm making myself get back on track today!  Though I was happy today because it's TTOM, relieved to know that's probalby what the weight-gain is from...though I'm sure the two glasses of wine and salsa chips last night won't help!!

Mommakitty and moochew - thank you so much for the kind words, they really did make my day.  As i Squeeeeezed into my jeans this morning cursing myself for the two glasses of wine and salsa chips from last night, (and yes, I feel like I've got a muffintop going on here - though I do well to wear long shirts and jackets to keep it hidden) it was really nice to read what you both wrote, because we should always try and remind what we like about ourselves, such as a nice smile or your eyes, sense of humor, a great laugh - whatever it may be!  So thank you.

I think that so often it's too easy to beat ourselves up and focus on the weight and what we'd change, and are struggling to change, that we forget about the weight we've lost already, no matter how small or at least the positive changes that we're making daily.  I just ate some M&Ms, I could beat myself up about it,  but you know what, I didn't eat the whole bag, I only had a handful.  So I think that we need to pat ourselves on the back, even if just for making baby steps.....Now, I just need to learn to heed my own advice because I feel like a bloated-muffintop today!!

I'd love to join too if it's not too late.  I lost 45 lbs in the past year and a half, then gained back 10.  So now I need to lose 20-25 - it is sooo hard!!  I need some hard honesty and to be accountable and will do so in return!

What is going on?!  I'm up a lb. this week too!

Back up to my start weight of 152.  Ugh, I'm trying so hard not to get frustrated and discouraged but it's so hard.  I want to be back into the 140's again at least!  It's been really hard trying to motivate myself and show self control.  I don't know how I did it before!

Happy Halloween everyone!

For some of us, it's going to be a challenge to keep our diet with all of this candy around - especially if you have kids, I'm sure it's much harder.  We can do it though.  What I did was buy candy that I'm not particularly in love with.  I could eat about 500 snickers or reeses peanut butter cups in a night so I made sure not to buy any.  Does anyone else have any ideas for how to keep the candy at bay?  Maybe just an out of sight, out of mind?

I'd love to join too!  This is a nice small group so I think it'll be good if we can all encourage eachother.  I lost 40lbs last year for my wedding in June and since then I've gained back 10 :(  My goal weight is to get to 125, (but I'd be extremly happy with 130).

Good for you guys for going to therapy, it takes an extremly strong person to admit that they can get help.

Your wife is feeling insecure about herself and I'm sure very vulnerable.  The way that she is coping with it is probably with hostility - I used to be the same way. When my husband, then fiance, first started losing weight a year ago, I was FUMING and extremly jealous; but I not only joined, but surpassed him in the amount of weight lost.  She'll come around, please be patient and understanding with her because it doesnt' seem like she realizes why she feels this way and that is the through "good times AND bad" part of marriage vows right there.  She needs you.

The highest my scale read was 186, but I think I was probably up to 190 or so at my heaviest.  My lowest weight was 140 and that was only a few weeks ago.  I just got married and we went away on our honeymoon (all inclusive food and alcohol - yikes!) and I gained about 7 or 8lbs. back.  I knew it was going to happen so I'm not losing my mind about it, just trying to get back into the swing of things!

Regarding your quesiton though, I haven't noticed any difference in the stretchyness of my skin.  I've heard it has a lot to do with your age though.  I'm in my mid-20s and I'm fine.  My mom was in her 40s though and when she lost weight (about 50lbs or so) she has a lot of loose skin, not as elasticy as it used to be she said.  I think drinking lots of water will help also!

Health & Support Late night eating!!!?????? Jul 21 2008

Honestly, I think it's just a really bad habit.  Your body is now used to eating at that time, so it'll automatically wake you up hungry at that same time; even if you're not really hungry.  We're creatures of habit and like schedules.

I used to be a night snacker.  I'd eat dinner around 5 or 6 and then be stuffing my face by 10 or 11 at night.  What you need to do is believe that you are the only one in control of this (becasue you are) and unless you're sleepwalking, you don't need to see a doctor.  You can do it, just change your habit.  A few nights of not snacking might break the cycle altogether!  It did for me - change things up a bit and fight the urge - you can do it!  It's soo worth it!

lindsayu83 - I had to have my dress taken in too, you don't even want to know how much it cost! I had a lot of layers that needed to be hemmed also, but I was shocked. Let's hope it'll be worth it though! She actually took it in a bit more so that I can lose a few more lbs. The pressure's on now to lose a few more inches in a month! Wish me luck, I've done HORRIBLE this past week!

Lemntwist - congratulations on buying your dress. I'd definitely recommend, if you can, waiting until two or three months before to buy your dress. I bought mine at David's Bridal so it was right off the rack. If I had known they didn't have to order it, I woudl've waited b/c it fit me PERFECTLY when I bought it, but then I ended up having it taken in. I go for my fitting on June 4th, I'm just so nervous, I hope it fits like it did the day I bought it!

Welcome taparapa ~ If you have only 20lbs. to lose before September, you're in great shape!  I would suggest finding something that you love for exercise and not trying to find the quickest way to burn 1000 calories or something.

I've lost 12 lbs. in the past three months (and 40 total overall).  I haven't been seriously dieting lately, not really giving 100% effort.  I watch what I eat for the most part but I could've done SOOO much better if I applied myself.  I like to walk and it's easy, so I walk probably 45 minutes, 5 times a week, so if you just find something you love to do for exercise (because you'll be doing it almost everyday) and just try easy things, like switching to most foods to low fat or fat free (cheese, cream cheese, milk, egg beaters are great!, etc.) and you'll be really surprised how just that, combined with exercise, will drop the numbers on the scale quickly!  Aim for 2lbs. a week and you should surpass your goal in less than three months!  Good luck, you can definitely do it if you apply yourself.  I need to heed my own advice and kick it up a notch b/c my wedding's next month!

Olivia77 ~ Thanks!  My puppy's name is Boston, she's the sweetest thing!  I've been really good about cutting waay back on alcohol still.  When I have a drink, it'll usually be a half glass of wine and the other half club soda or some kind of sparkling water.  I tend to drink and eat whatever's in front of me quickly, so cutting alcohol with something calorie free is great and it's like a spritzer (diet ginger ale is really good too)  Thanks for the quote of $200, I figured it might be somewhere around there, hopefully not more.  Though I'm not going to complain, better to take it in, then to take it out!

Tygrkat ~ I took some time away from CC too.  I didn't gain, just kind of stayed put.  I scheduled my fitting too, it's this month - two weeks away - eech.  Good luck on meeting your goal for your fitting.  I probably wont' meet mine but it's better than me gaining before it.

lemntwist~don't worry about the gain, i'm sure you'll get right back on track.  I've noticed that the couple of times that I kind of 'fell off the wagon' it got easier to get right back into the swing of things.  I try to think of it being a complete change of life so I'll never go back to how I used to eat, but once in awhile you've gotta splurge a little or you'll go crazy!  I will at least!

Okay, weighing in this week at....151lbs.  I'm down 2 lbs. which feels good.  I've been exercising almost everyday for the past two weeks, I just need to keep the calorie intake down.  Sometimes I think that because I work out, I can eat the extra calories.  But I've cut way down on alcohol which has helped big time.

I haven't weighed-in for awhile but I need to start getting more strict again.  I'm still at 153, which is good I haven't gained, but I haven't lost so I'm going to try to kick it up a notch - eating out is NOT helping, might have to nix that along with no alochol.  Great job for those who are losing - keep it up!

Drinks lots of water, all day long.

Don't undereat during the day, it'll just lead to eating too fast or making poor food choices later (I tend to shovel food down as soon as I get home at night, so I try to have a light snack right before I leave work and it makes me not starving and able to make good choices).

Brush your teeth/chew minty gum at night/after dinner, especially if you're a late night muncher, like me :)

I feel as if I wrote this post.  I do AWESOME during the week and then, like you said Thursday rolls around and it's almost the weekend so why not have a drink - or 6.  I'm getting married in June and have lost 30 lbs since last summer but I still have 20 to go and I'll lose one or two every few weeks, it'd be so much quicker if I cut out all the alcohol calories or at least the crap I eat when I'm drinking!

My fiance and I decided that we weren't going to drink for a month after St. Patrick's Day weekend (last weekend) and then after that stay cut waay down.  So it's been 5 days w/no alcohol, which I never usually drink during the week anyway, so this weekend will be the test - wish us luck!  I just got fed up with seeing the scale go down on Wed & Thurs mornings and then shoot right up on Mondays - time for a change!

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions with the future in-laws, things ended up working out fine!  I'm 3 1/2 months from the wedding and getting soo excited!  So, we've (my fiance and I) have decided to not drink alcohol for a month.  It's day 3 today and I don't usually drink during the week anyway so this weekend will be the real test.  I'm sick of drinking all those empty calories and then eating crap.  My fitting is in a month so I'm hoping this will help me lose more quickly.

For those of you that need to get your dresses altered more than just a bottom hem, have you been told any price range on how much it might cost.  I know it'll prob. be different depending on location but the corset top part of my dress will need to be taken in, which is technically a good thing b/c I've lost, but I'm trying to look at some sort of price range.  I'm getting it done at David's Bridal too, all they said is usually they run somewhere starting around $60 (and i'm sure that's just for a hem!)  Thanks!
