Lasik is awesome !!!!

It can be the one of the best things you ever do, or if the wrong person does it, lasik could be the worst thing you ever do.  This is one of those things where you have to do research with the Doctors in your area.

First thing to look for is that they have received adequate training,  I wouldn't consider anyone who is not a fellowship trained corneal specialist.  Its really scary how many surgeons out there Just decide one day to buy a laser and start blasting away on corneas.  You would like to think that they receive some formal training to do this in there residency training but that is not the case.  You want to be sure if something goes wrong, your surgeon has the ability and training to deal with it.

I have been working with a Refractive and Corneal Specialist here in Hawaii for 4 years now.  I found this guy because I was inquiring about another lasik surgeon and found out he was trained by the surgeon I work with now.  Plus, he has performed lasik on other lasik surgeons.  Those are the type of credentials you need to look for.

Stay away from Discount Lasik Centers!!! We utilize the latest Technology.  Many discount lasik centers operate pre-historic dated lasers without eye tracking capabilities.  New technology requires the surgeon to pay royalties to use the technology.  If your getting it less than 1000 dollars an eye its probably not a fourth generation laser or wave Mapping system.  Jeff foxworthy said it best when he said they have special books for discount lasik-its called braille.

Find out if touch ups or enhancements are free if they are needed.  We ensure our work for Life.  Your center should have an Intralase to cut the flap.  Thats another laser(more royalties)  You wouldn't want to have a blade or microkeratome malfunction when your flap is being cut.

Sorry to be going on and on here but its my job and something I am very passionate about.  Shoots,  you could always take a vacation and have it done in Hawaii here.  LoL  Yeah right Ill just hop on my private jet.  Anyway, if anyone has questions, feel free to blog away or the Doc even takes question on our website  Eyesighthawaii.com

Lasik is the second most performed surgery out of all surgeries.  Cataract surgery is number one.  Ophthalmology Rulze!!!!!!!

Aloha,

I live on Oahu in a little town called Kaaawa.  I work in Kaimuki with Refractive Surgeon & Corneal Specialist John Olkowski.  Man I love it out here!  Came out via the Navy the first time originally from West Virginia. Then after I got married I Moved to the wine country where My wife is from and pretended to myself that Everything was ok...Til I started having dreams about Malassadas, Plate lunches and all the great food that is only here.  Once you live here in the islands your done dont even try living anywhere else.  Youll be ok for about five or six years but then....Your looking at a pretty ugly housing market and still dreaming about Malassadas, Plate lunches, and how extremely cool and friendly people were here.
