Motivation Great Motivator Idea Aug 19 2007

I'm glad you like the idea.  They actually are really cheap.  $2-8 bucks a charm.  And the actuall blank bracelet is really cheap to.

Some pharmacies carry them, 'clairs' in the mall carries them, some halmark stores still carry them.  I get mine at www.pugster.com because they have lots of "stone" charms, and I'm a nut for the sparkely stuff.

It's a very affordable thing to do and you can really have fun with it.

I wanted to share a Motivation Piece that I've created that really took off when I suggested it to my weight watchers forum.

I bought a blank Italian Charm bracelet. You know the kind that are silver squares.  Then I purchased a few (40 pounds worth) charms that I really like and motivate me.

I call it my "every pound counts" bracelet.  Everytime I lose a pound, I get to take off a blank square and put on one that I bought.  I have 'gold star" charms for every 5 pounds I reach.  And I have a "crown" charm that has different gems stones in it, for my goal charm.

I love wearing it because the charms that are on it, (my first 5 pounds) remind me that if I keep going, it will add up and I will succeed.  It's a great motivator.

Since each bracelet only holds about 20 pounds, I will have several bracelets when I reach goal. When I reach goal, I am going to unhook them, lay them flat and frame them with a photo of me at my goal weight.  When people ask me about the charms in the frame, I'll tell them they resemble each pound I lost.  I'm not going to have a 'before' picture of me, because that person will no longer exist and my focus from then on will be the healthy me.

Hope this will also be a good motivator for some of you as well.  I really like it.

41 yrs old, no kids, never have tried.  Thought I never wanted any.  But I've always agreed to keep an open mind and never say never.

Once I reach my goal weight, it may change my mind, but we'll see.  It's hard to imagine having a teenager in my 60's.

We also like to pick up and do little get-a-ways at the spur of the momment.  We love to take naps when we want to and do nothing on the weekends if we want.  Or go out and not worry about a babysitter.

We like our house quiet, except for watching our two dogs play constantly.  They are just like kids.

I'll be 42 by the time I reach goal, which is a good year away, and we'll revisit the idea of getting pregnant then.  Sometimes I think "maybe" and sometimes I just like it the way it is.  We'll leave it in the hands of God.

But you're not alone.  Good job on your weightloss so far...that's GREAT!

Niecy..., Instead of writing down things while you eat them (or everyday), I find it easier for me to plan my whole week, go ahead and log it all at one time, print the whole week out and pick up each days sheet that morning and just stick with what I have already planned.

Then if I do have something small, not already listed, I only have to add that one thing.  But I pretty much stick with my list.  (I took a break and got off track, but I'm just starting back on it now and when I look at my past weight logs and food logs, I see that I lost the most poundsthe fastest when I was doing it that way)

Good luck, Tickerbell
Weight Loss what type of scale should i buy? Jul 29 2007

I purchased a doctor's scale inexpensive at a garage-sell.  But I know they are really expensive in the stores.  I also have a Weight Watchers digital which reads accurate, so that is the one I use most of the time.  It's quicker than messing with the weights on the doctor scale.

Just watch, when you are looking at buying a digital, becuase they read in different increments.  Try to get the one that reads the lowest, like .10 lbs.  Some only read in 1/2 pound increments, so if you've lost 1.25 pounds, it's going to show you've only lost a pound until you've lost that full next 1/2 pound.  Even a 1/4 of a pound is a motivation and a triumph, so if you lost it, your scale should tell you that you lost it!

good luck, Ticker
The Lounge Who's Hitting 40 This Year? Jun 07 2007

I'm 40, which doesn't really bother me.  But 45 will bother me because it'll only be 5 years till 50 hits l..... and 50 will probably really bother me because it will mean that I am, most likely, more than 1/2 way through my life.

But right now, I actually like being older.  There is a certain pride in it.  But one of my biggest concerns is that I want to be healthy & fit in my 'mature' years.

I hate that I've wasted my 30's being over weight almost the whole time.  I'm looking forward to getting healthy in my 40's. Hopefully I'll look like I'm in my 30's once I've reach goal, and get the chance to re-life them the right way.

don't sweat it because it's kinda cool.....even all the movie stars of our generation are starting to show their age!

The Lounge Starbucks! Jun 07 2007

I read an article that said Starbucks was rated as one of the best places to work in America.

I've tried their bakery things and received dry stuff most of the times, but this last time their cheese danish was awesome!

Living in Seattle, I've got the 3 major options, Starbucks, Seattles Best & Tullys.  I like Tullys bets.  (and Starbucks owns "Seattles Best", but Seattles best is a lighter roast)

Good luck with your job.  Good ethics will climb you up the ladder fast, no matter what type of job it is.  Do you best.

Hi Everyone.  One thing that is a good booster for me is to remember not to just look at my "goal".

Sometimes I forget to realize that I am going to look & feel a lot better, even before I reach goal.

With each mile-stone along the way, we are going to be thrilled with each different size we wear.  We don't have to wait until goal to be happy with our progress.  We are going to notice a huge difference way before we even reach 1/2 way.

So just remember....it's not like we are going to wake up one day, when we are at final goal, and be thrilled as if the whole time we dieted we were the heaviest weight as when we first started, until that final 'goal' day.  (that heaviest start date will be gone long before we ever reach goal)

We'll have been shrinking the whole time and with each mile-stone we are going to be LOVING IT!

I agree with all of you about Kimkins.  She is just basically trying to get rich quick by making her own version of a diet by blending 2 together, like none of us have ever tried doing that before?....duh..(blending 2 diets, not the rich quick thing)

I've done Atkins and South Beach blend before because I didn't feel right eating so much fat on Atkins, and of course the diet works, but it's not a long term fix.

Who can live like that for the rest of their lives?

Cut calories, you'll lose weight....it's that simple....and you don't have to pay anyone to tell you that.
Foods What are some Very VERY VERY Low Calorie Snacks??? Apr 14 2007

I like taking a large rice cake or popcorn cake, spread just a thin tad of butter over the top (best tasting butter is the smart balance!) and it is a grrrreeeaat low cal snack.

The Kallo thin rice cakes are only 19cals.  And with just a pea size ball of butter that is thinned out over the top, I would say it's less than 22 cals a cake.

Just eat it slow and savor each chew.  ticker-bell
Foods Lean Cusine meals - quality? Apr 14 2007

I love the Lean cuisine meals.  I don't think I've ever had one I didn't like.  Maybe I just got lucky.  I love their spegetti and manacotti.

To help take the guess work out of portion size and calorie counts, I eat a low cal frozen entree for lunch & dinner and then eat low cal snacks.

I plan on cooking dinner on my days off and watching the portion control very carefully.

Yes, sodium might be an issue with frozen entrees, but right now it's all about calorie volume.

If I worried about everything that every article reads, I will never lose this weight.  So finally I'm just eating stuff that taste good and keeping the calories under a certain amount.  I'll worry about the rest of it later.

Speaking of Esparagus, did you know that it is really good raw?  The other day a friend of mine saw another girl at the gym eating it raw and she got some and tried it and liked it so I tried it and it is a nice refreshing little raw snack!  I was pretty surprised.  I never thought of eating it raw.  It's not stringy or anything.  It taste just like peas.  (so if you like peas, which I do, you'll like it.)

I am so excited about losing weight.  I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.  We always think that a "year" is soooo long, but really every year goes by so fast, that if I would have just stayed on it for one year a long time ago, I wouldn't have been overweight pretty much all through my 30's.  Now at 41, I really want to try to save my 40's before I hit my 50's.  And boy does time go fast.

So hang in there everybody!!  You'll be at goal before you know it!

Hello It'sMytime,

I think you have got the right attitude!  I try to make my full week out in advance and print it out, that way I know right off the bat what I can have.  But you are right, I love that I can over do it a little on one meal, and know how to make it up on the next meal because of the calorie calculator.

The best way to lose weight is lower the caloric intake.  All diets basically do just that, but they do it in different ways, like cutting out certain food groups, like carbs or something.  But just counting calories, we pretty much don't have to cut anything out.

Oh by the way, it's tickerbell, not tinkerbell.  I'm named after my Ticker.....ticking away the pounds.

have a great one, TickerB

I am in this with all of you.

I have a great motivation because I am going home for Christmas this year and have not seen my Dad in over 2 years and I want to walk in there and shock him with my weightloss!

I guess it's funny being 41 years old and still caring about what my Dad thinks about me huh?

I've been battling this 'large' weight issue for over 8 years now and I am really ready to go back to feeling good about how I look and how I physically feel.

I want to be able to cross my legs again when I sit down and I want to be able to go into any clothing store and know I can wear just about anything.

I'm tired of going on diets and eating things I don't like.  I'd rather just count the calories and cut my portions and eat what I do like, and that is exactly what I am doing.  It's great.  I'm down almost 5 pounds in 5 days.

Good luck to you all.  I hope to see you around this site with great success stories!
