| I would like to hear from more people who are having positive (or negative) results with Alli. Please post your experiences with it.
Mr. BIG ("Sex in the City" reference)- do you mind sharing your stats so we have a point of reference? 6lbs the first week could have been water weight but I'm hoping for you that it's a trajectory in the right direction. Either way, please keep us updated on your progress with Alli. I'm very interested. Did you start a workout routine at the same time? Good Luck!!! |

| It sounds like any weight loss you get would come from the fact that you are forced to eat a low fat diet or pay the consequences. The consequences also sound like you would loose quite a bit of water (ie dehydration) weight. I would like to see someone post that has tried it and succeeded. There was an article on WebMD and below is some of it. Beware and be careful!
"An expert panel voted 11-3 to recommend the drug for over-the-counter sales for people who are overweight, despite concerns from several panelists that its marketer, GlaxoSmithKline, did not study its long-term use in those who are overweight. That leads to some weight loss but also causes many of orlistat's gastrointestinal side effects. Fat that isn't absorbed passes through the digestive system, causing loose stools, oily flatulence, and soiling in many patients, depending on how well users comply with a low-fat diet. Longer-term studies using orlistat's prescription-only form show that patients tend to gain back lost weight within two years. The (FDA) panel conditioned their approval on company pledges to conduct longer-term studies on how orlistat is used once it is on the over-the-counter market. " |

| I will, thanks.
Okay so sugar (in the form of sodas or candy) do not alleviate the hypo-G issues, only protein or carbs, but riddle me this this? How come I can have a glass of White Zin and all the hypo-G issues disappear. Okay, I expect some comments back about "no caring after alchohol" but I'm really puzzeled about it from metabolic understanding. I've read that wine converts to pure sugar but I guess it's the bread kinda sugar and not the candy type of sugar. I mean one sip and my head clears immediatly and all the shakes go away, etc.... |

| A few revelations about this I've learned today in my quest for knowledge.
- hypoglycemia is one of the main reasons people "fall of the wagon" from diets. - Unlike diabetes, a person with hypoglycemia needs protein and/or complex carbs to "restore" recover from their "attack". Whenever I was having what I callled a "low blood sugar attack" I would go in search or sugar and then get frustrated because it did nothing for me and did not relieve the symptoms. I wondered why I responded to something like cheese and crackers much quicker. Now I understand why. - I also know why I'm dying "starving" by lunch. I must be getting a lot of sugar in my breakfast which is causing me to crash by lunch. Same for dinner. One thing I've seen repeated over and over is to get protein into each meal to stabilize the blood sugar. What are some good protein items for breakfast that are going to help my weightloss? |

| Thanks. Your are so right.
Can I whine for a second....Pity Party! It's so hard being a mother of two working in and outside the home full time, running from meeting to meeting, AND trying to lose weight to squeeze all these small meals in. By the time I do get to eat, I'm so panicky and the cravings are SO BAD that I grab things that are not appropriate. I know, I know, planning. Failure to plan is planning for failure. I need to plan on the snacks and prepare for them. I think I need to find a nutritionist that can help me plan on small mini meals that: 1) will help my weight loss (need to lose 50 lbs) 2) keep my blood sugar steady 3) be quick and easy for the Mom on the go (who puts her health last) 4) tastes decent so I will acturally eat them. I've tried to lose weight so many times but the symptoms of the hypoglycemia (masked as "no will power") cause me to "pull the rip cord" everytime. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm done feeling sorry for myself for now. Let me see if I can come up with another "plan" to deal with this but I don't think I can do it alone. I've tried that several times. I need help. If anyone has any lists of good lists of hypoglycemia food ideas that are quick, easy, and low cal please feel free to post them. Right now I'm eating a Tuna fish salad sandwhich on whole grain bread with water. I have no idea if it's the right thing but I'm trying. Later I'm going to have either an apple (right choice) or come cheese and crackers for a snack (probably not so right). Today I was prepared. Tomorrow I might not be. |

| I've suspected it for a while. I just found this article.
Reactive hypoglycemia occurs within four hours after eating, when blood glucose levels fall below 70 milligrams per deciliter. The person has symptoms, but the symptoms are relieved after eating or drinking something with calories. The cause of reactive hypoglycemia is unclear. I think I need to find a specialist to properly diagnose and treat it but I'm not sure what kind of doctor I should look for: Nutritionist, Internal Med, or other. |

| Can you switch to a Marriott Residence Inn? They have full kitchens and are usually comparable with most of the other hotel rooms in price especially if you get a "special" rate like GOV or AAA. Extended Stay is another chain that has full kitchens.
I've been on extended travel for the last three weeks and I don't know what I would have done if not for my kitchen. |

| Ah. Food. The great councelor. Yes, I'm familar with that. It's comforting when you feeling down on your self. That's the trap. The perverbial "Hogandas on the couch therapy session". You are self medicating your insecurities with FOOD. Please nip this in the bud now. You ARE BEAUTIFUL! YOU ARE AWESOME! You need a passion in your life that reminds you of how special you are. Art, sports, writing, something that validates who you are. If you have people around you that are putting you down then they need to leave right now. They do NOT need to be in your world. You need people around you who know how special you are and tell you. Surrond yourself with peole who love you for yourself and remind you that you are great when you need reassurance. It took me years to realize I had an inferiourity complex. I felt I was less that those around me. By the time I realized I was just as good if not a 10000 x better, it was too late. The damage was done. I had become what I most feared. Again, you become what you focus on.
Yes, you need to drink more.....WATER! I HATE WATER. What I do love is putting a case of those small bottles in the fridge and getting them ice cold and then grabbing one when I'm on the way out the door. I had to try a few varieties before I found one I liked. I will even through one in the frezzer to toss in my backpack for later. The body is funny though, the more water you drink the more you want. Your body starts to crave it. Same with exercise. |

| Health & Support | Anyone here get migraine headaches? | Apr 17 2007 02:56 (UTC) |
|
| I had migraines for a year. Went to several doctors and specialists. After a year of misery I got a bonus check at work and had a tooth pulled that had been cracked for a while. It had no root so I did not feel the connection of the pain from the tooth to the migraines. Two weeks after the tooth was pulled, the migraines disappeared. Probably not your issue but I thought I would share in case anyone else has something similar. | |||

| Weight can swing 5-10bls in a month due to things like your period. So you may need to cut yourself some slack. Water weight (5-10lbs) can be added to your body via your period, sodas, foods heavy in salt, and not driking enough water. When you don't drink enough water or get too much salt your body is fooled into thinking your are dehydrated so it goes into conservation mode and retained water. Believe it or not, driking lots of water convinces the body to flush out the water it's holding. So switch juices, sodas (even diet) to water.
But honestly I don't think you need to worry about 15 lbs. What you do need to be worried about is all the worry you have over it and the self loathing (I hate my body). I sense a much deeper issue here with insecurity that does not have much to do with weight and more to do with self worth. I know because I had it at your age too and I did not address it and it got out of control. I did not appreciate the beautiful young woman I was. I only saw the imperfections. Eventally I became what I saw. You need to see the beautiful you and focus on that. You are what you focus on. Focus on the good stuff. Go get the book The Secret and read it. You will learn that if you focus on the beautiful things in life then they grow. If you focus on the ugly things...then they grow. Sorry for the sermon but I understand your pain and based on my experience I think I know where it stems from. Focus on your perfections, NOT your imperfections. |
