OK - time to get back on the band wagon (that is a strange phrase, isn't it?).  To jump start my summer and to lose those pounds that came back over the winter -- I am looking for a good challenge.  Are any of you (my over 40 friends) participating in a good, get back into, kind of challenge that I can join?

Nancy,  Ummm.  Ribs.

So, after reading you think that 48 was young for menopause I had to look it up.  The menopause website said "The average age of menopause onset is 51, plus or minus several years either way. Some women experience average age of menopause in the 30's due to a hysterectomy, chemotherapy or other medical reasons others as late as their 60's."  So, I guess I'm in the range, but at the early end.  And your mom was at the very early end.

Everyone - I got my replacement pedometer today because my other one as disappeared) and I'm committing to taking a nice long walk :)

Have a healthy, active day.

Hi everyone.  After a rainy 2 week vacation in Texas, I'm back :)  I actually feel good that I only gained 4.5 lbs. while on vacation.  Let me tell you, that candy factory outlet didn't do me any favors!

To reintroduce myself, I'm Mary, 48 years old, 5'4" and 188.  I live in the Puget Sound area with my husband, tween daughter, dog & cat.

When I got back home from my trip there was a note about my blood work I had done.  It said I was in menopause.  Well, I thought so, but it was still weird to see it in print!  lol.

Anyway, now that I'm home and have caught up with all the new posts (5 pages of them!), I'm going to be serious again.  Glad to be back with my cc friends :)

Terri - I think going down a size (more less 3!) is even more exciting than losing weight.  Somehow it makes it feel more real.  So, a big virtual high 5 to you :)

I think oversized clothes actually make a person look heavier.

You guys want to hear a funny story?  My husband, who has lost about 15 lbs. has put off shopping for better fitting clothes.  The other day his pants actually fell down!  Now that got him shopping.  He dropped 2 sizes too.

I found a cool website to help with good fitting jeans.  It's Zafu.  You put in your size, age and how your pants usually fit and they find you the best product for you.  And many of the jeans are in the $30 range.  And you don't have to buy from them, you can just go to a regular store (I would)

Hi everyone,

Glad to see some new folks here.

Terri - Good for you for taking care of yourself and 14 lbs. is a great start.

Gordabutt,  I loved that you laughed at your butt :)  It made me smile to think about.  And I know just what you mean!

Mctami - I'm so happy you found a bargain at Coldwater Creek!  I saw that outfit and it is very classy.

2phatforgood - You can do it!  Just do something today, a walk around the block,  jogging in place to music, whatever you like :)

Nancy - I missed the photo too!

Bonna - How is it going with your mom?

I wanted to let you ladies know that I have finally gone from severly overweight to moderately overweight.  I'm telling you it feels good!  Sever is such a serious work.  Moderate is something I can deal with.  Now I'm working on going to Slightly :)  Thanks, all, for the support.  It is making a difference. :

Just a quick note to you all that Coldwater Creek is having one of their annual sales, with 50% off everything on their website.  You have to put in this code.  WLH2402

The sale runs through 7/11.  Make sure you see the discount at the time of checkout.

I bought a pair of Paisley Painted Jean (remember we were talking about jeans) that were $79, marked down to $39.99 in the outlet part, and then it was 1/2 of that, so $20.  Plus normal shipping.

Just google Coldwater Creek to get to their website.  And no,  I don't work for them!

So this is off topic, but has anyone tried the "Not your daughter's jeans"   They are made for us 40+ woman and have some stomach support.  But they are really expensive at just over $100!   Two of the woman at my work have them and they are flattering.  And my current jeans try to sag below my stomach, which way isn't appealing.

Any thoughts?  Or maybe a different brand of jeans to try?

Elaine/Shearsfam - Since your getting both pedometers would you consider telling us how they compare?  You know, in a few weeks once you've had a chance to try them both.

If it makes you feel any better, last night I had a piece of cake and a glass of wine.  Though I was pretty good during the day.  Is the scale any kinder to you today?

Deh - I just love the "This is a marathon, ladies, not a 50-yard dash" line.  It made me smile.

Monday -

I drank about 90 oz. of water and walked about a mile with the dog.  She loved it.  Actually both of us did :)

I know its not part of the challenge, but I also got my fruits and veggies in.

Darn, I had a typo on my original weight.  It was 188.25, not 187.25.  Now it is 188.

Elaine -- I think those social eating functions are the most difficult part of eating healthy so good luck with your week and have a blast at Disneyland :)

Thanks for the welcome.  The only tips I can think of is spending a little bit of money for a decent pedometer.  I got the Omron HJ-112 Digital Premium Pedometer from Amazon and it has been a workhorse.  I love that it shows total steps and also total aerobic steps, and has a one week history.

Besides that, I'm just doing the normal -- counting calories and trying to exercise.

Elaine - I'm in the south Puget Sound, on your time :)

Bonna - I had my gallbladder out also, last fall.

I wanna join!  I signed up for the challenge, my first one.  I'm 48, 5'4 and weigh 187.  Since I've been doing CC, I'm down about 15 lbs.  I have to lose weight because my husband is getting the gastric surgery and I absolutely can not be heavier than him!  Also I need to lose weight for all of the usual reasons - health & happiness.  :)

Jlomiller - I use to live outside of Dallas.  We go to visit for two weeks each summer, just to remember how hot it can get :)

Everyone else and Jlomiller - A pleasure to meet you.

I'm in!

Weight: 187.25 also butt naked 1st thing in the morning (really is there any other way?)

water intake: 48 oz., apparently I need to drink more. :)

EXERCISE:  Yep, could do this more too.  Walking a mile or so in the evenings a few times a week.

I was doing alright when I had a partner, but she left for the summer and I need some motivation.

Good luck to us :)

Corsincon,  I've notice a lack of tolerance for certain foods since my new way of eating began.  The other day I had a hotdog at my daughter's school and it way didn't agree with me.  And just today I had a piece of carrot cake (what was I thinking?) and now while it isn't causing distress -- it sure is sitting heavy.

Glad to have found this thread.

I'm 48 and have been doing CC since mid-April.  I'm down 13 hard earned lbs.  :)

Hi.  It's Friday and I'm good today.  Hope to get some good, distance (for me) walking in this weekend to help the cause.  At 194.5, I'm right in the middle of this group.  And like everyone else here I'm looking forward to the 180s group.  :)
