Foods Cookie Dough Conundrum Nov 01 2009
18:01 (UTC)
Original Post by icecream18:

Does anybody know of a good cookie dough product with not many calories...I know that this may be asking the impossible.

I use the Toll-House recipe, but I use whole wheat flour, 1.5 sticks of lower-cal spread instead of two sticks of butter, and egg beaters.  I also don't use the whole bag of chips like they say...maybe half.  I still use real sugar because I hate the taste of artificial sweetners, but if you don't mind those, they'll cut calories too.  Mine end up at about 80 cals per cookie, I think.

Also, I think there's a way you can sub unsweetened applesauce for something...can't remember which though!

Hey!  Couldn't you try just having a little bit?  Maybe one fun-sized bar?  I fit a full size twix into my calories yesterday because I didn't want to feel left out of Halloween.

My mother was like that too...never believed I was eating unless I was outright binging (and she also didn't understand why binging was counterproductive).  Just continue what you are doing.  If you gained 6 pounds, you are doing something right!  Your mom is concerned because she is a mom.  She wants you to recover, and you want you to recover.  You both have the same intentions, so don't take what she says too much to heart.  Once you get more visible results, I'm sure she'll ease off.

Foods Low calorie versus high calories with more nutrition? Apr 02 2009

Almond milk just strikes me as unnatural.  I mean, c'mon, if I squeeze an almond, it's not gonna leak milk.  Plus, I remember my severely anorexic sister drinking it all the time, so I don't want to go down that route.

It's milk.  It's one of the healthiest things you can have.  Plus, I have doubts that almond milk has the same amount of calcium, which we need!  I'll stick with the milk.

Foods brown and white rice Apr 02 2009

I know brown has more fiber and everything, but white rice (the exact same weight, dry) always fills me up more.  I think it's because it expands a bit more than the brown that I buy.  Plus, we some of the Asian dishes I make, brown just doesn't work well.

So yeah, as long as portions are kept under control, there's no reason to feel guilty about eating white rice.

Get back on track!  Just do it! Smile

I had a huge project due last week (like a 5 month project), took the weekend off to rest, and got back into things Monday.  I was tired Monday, sore Tuesday, and feel great today.  Just get to it, and it will be so much easier.

Health & Support can i rant? Mar 31 2009

I wasn't trying to be harsh.  It's just that the OP was treating her binge like it was something that just snuck up on her at night, when in reality, her choices throughout the day only set her up for it.  I've had a binging problem for a while myself, and one of the things I've learned is that I really have no one to blame but myself.  It's a weakness that I give into when I eat crap for the day, and you can't just tell yourself it's 'one day' because then you tell yourself that every day.

It's all about being accountable for what you put in your mouth.

Well what did you expect?  You ate junk all day which only leads to more cravings for junk.  A calorie is a calorie, but if you're spending it on crap, it's not going to repay you very well.

Foods Holey Donuts???? Mar 30 2009

I love to buy the powdered cinnamon donuts at my grocery store (Friehoffer brand if you're from upstate NY).  They're only about 200 cals, and taste like a real donut, whereas I'd be suspicious of the ones you're talking about.

Also, after you lose a good amount of weight, you have to eat less to continue losing.  I would guess the CC estimate was taking that into account.

Foods Eating too many protein bars? Feb 08 2009

If I remember correctly, Met-Rx bars at 32 grams of protein is a heck of a lot more than a balance bar.  I think that, rather than the lack of real sugar, is what makes you fuller on a Met-Rx bar.  So instead, I'd try a balance bar with some sort of protein snack on the side...maybe a 100-cal serving of almonds.

If it only took you a week to gain it, you should return to normal rather quickly after resuming your normal routine.

Weight Loss Are enemas dangerous? Dec 24 2008
00:32 (UTC)

It really sounds like you just came on here to have someone else say "enemas are totally safe, everyone does them all the time".  But that's not the truth.

You are hurting yourself badly.

You may have distrust in doctors, and I believe sometimes that doctors are wrong.  But it seems to me you're only getting mad at your doctors for telling you what you don't want to hear.

If you're not going to bed until 3, you should definitely have a bigger meal before bed!  You said you eat with your family at 5...then you go 10 hours without eating a full meal  until 3?  Just because you're on a different time schedule doesn't mean you shouldn't get at least 3 square meals a day.

Weight Loss Dreading Christmas because I have gained weight. Dec 23 2008

I'm in the same position with my Dad.  I too gained 11 lbs. since last Christmas.  However, I was underweight last year.  My mom still thinks I need to eat more and heckles me about it, but I don't mind it because she's always trying to feed everyone. But my Dad, ugh, he's the worst.  We were eating food and I had taken a very small portion because I didn't know if I would like it.  I decided it was pretty good and went back for seconds, since I hadn't eaten much at all.  My Dad started making pig noises!  It was so upsetting I threw down my plate and left.

I too take comfort in food, but you and I both need to understand that it's OUR bodies.  All that matters is how we feel about ourselves, forget what everyone else thinks!

The Lounge What exactly does it mean to "binge" eat? Dec 22 2008
22:47 (UTC)

For me, binging refers to control issues.  For instance, if I'm at my calorie limit and I decide to eat a piece of cake.  That's overeating.  Binging is when I decide to eat the cake, decide I've blown the entire day, and drown myself in more and more food.  Usually, physical discomfort is involved.

I did/do have an eating disorder and it does bother me when people refer to overeating as binging.  Binging is a much bigger issue.

Foods What do you eat when you're under the weather? Dec 22 2008

I'd stay away from dairy if you're sick...it helps build up mucus production which is never pleasant.  If you can make a homemade soup instead of canned, you can put a lot of veggies and some barley in it to make it hearty.  Definitely eat things with a lot of vitamins, so a lot of fruits and vegetables.

Feel better!

Being a college student, I can't always afford to buy the healthiest products, so I don't fuss too much about other stuff.  I mainly just count calories and keep an eye on sodium if I can.

The Lounge Worst Christmas gift ever recieved? Dec 16 2008

When we go shopping in the mall, we always go to one of those stands and get them all gift-wrapped because it's way nicer looking than anything we could've done.  My mom kept telling me she had a great gift for me and saved it for last.  When I opened it, it was a sweater I thought I had lost.  The wrapping paper guy thought it was one of our purchases.  I was pissed, mainly because I had gone the whole month thinking I had lost my favorite sweater!

Weight Loss 5.2lbs gone in 5 days! What the heck? Dec 16 2008

The water was probably a good part of it.  I also find that when I've been working out everyday and hit a bit of a plateau, cutting back usually drops the weight off.

And I wouldn't worry unless you continue to lose weight at that pace.

I'm hoping you meant 36-24-39 as your measurements because 29" hips would be creepy.

I'm 5'7" and when I was 113 lbs., I was 35-23-34 and a size 0...so I'm assuming maybe around 118-120 for your 'ideal' measurements.
