OK finally watched the Tivo last night.  It was awesome!  2 of my bottom 3 (Liz being the other) out in one swoop.  The only thing that would have been better is if it was Liz below the red instead of Daniel, and Amanda was totally out of it.  Guess it didn't pay for Shay to be ugly with Rudy on the challenge, did it?  I was worried that he'd go with Amanda at the end, because he'd said something about "it's about who needs to be here."  I'm so glad Shay is gone!  I mean let's face it, there's a point where you're actually too big for TBL, and she's at that point.  If she leaves this week or a few weeks from now, she's still going to be enormous, so what's the point of leaving her on the show "because she really needs to be there"??  At this point, she's either got it together to start down that long, long road at home, or she doesn't.  Go Allen, Rudy, and Amanda!!!

Tracey is short.  So are Rebecca and Amanda.  I'd say like in the 5'2" range.  Tracey definitely has more weight to lose, but it looks like she's on track to do it by the finale!  She's the Helen of this season!!!  Nah, I liked Helen a lot better and wasn't mad that she won, although I was rooting for Tara.

tciherr, HOW COULD YOU???  Daniel sucks.  First of all, he's on his 2nd chance so he has an advantage over everyone else coming in to start with.  Secondly, he's sucking.  Yeah he did good on his weight loss this week, but before that it was just pathetic given his size.  And he does pretty poorly on the challenges too, with the exception of the endurance one that he won.  He can't balance worth cr@p and anything that involves running or moving fast, he can't do.  The kid is what, 19 years old???  I think he needs to try harder.

She has gotten thin...if she wins the at-home, I'm going to lose it.  I think she really might!  Tossup between Tracey and Liz being the bottom two- hate them both, but I guess crazy eyes had to go first.  Now it's time for Liz, Daniel, and Shay.

Dear morbidly obese coworkers,

YES I'M COLD.  That's why I'm wearing a sweater / heavy jacket / have my space heater on in my office.  No I don't need to hear your stories about how you are not cold and wear tanktops at Christmas time.  You are morbidly obese, I have less than 20% body fat.  Next time you bring it up, I'm going to point that out, and you're not going to like it.

thanks,

ColdGirl

I think it's time for Daniel to go.  Yeah everyone likes him b/c he's young and he's lost some weight, but he's just at a dead end.  And he's slow on the challenges and seems to give up easily.  The only one he's won is one that was endurance.  Every other one he's a hindrance.  Liz needs to go too.  She talks a lot of smack but doesn't back it up.  I noticed she was all hugging Tracey this week.

Is Tracy driving everyone as crazy as she is me? I don't like her sense of wishing ill will on the other contestants.

I feel bad for Shay but I'm over her situation too. BL is driving me away with the harping on people's bad situations. We all have s*** we call have baggage. Get over that part and move on to the weight loss!

This is the first year I haven't been crazy rooting for one person already. I'm very ambivalent about everyone except Tracy.

I agree with that, I watched this week's last night and I just can't really root for anyone.  Last year I was so Team Tara it was crazy.  And this year, well, I like (of who's left): Rudy and Allen.  But I don't LOVE either.  And I'm so-so on Amanda, Rebecca, Danny (hated him at first but he's growing on me, still too wimpy), and I actively dislike the rest.

I have to say, I agree with pgeorgian and other posters on this one.

1. It's a game and the goal was to win $250K home- which is why she sent Shannon home, and why she got down to the weight she did.

2. Her BMI is not technically underweight.  Although this website says that under 20 is underweight, most BMI tools give a cutoff of 18.5, which would put her at the low end of a healthy BMI- FOR ANY AGE.  It's ridiculous to say that you should just be fine with being fatter when you get older.

3. I think she looked great FOR HER- she's not a supermodel!!!  People are complaining that she looks "too thin", "sickly", and "like a bodybuilder"...COME ON, she has some loose skin from losing a ton of weight.  Doesn't bounce right back when you're that age.  She has mucsle tone, she doesn't look like she's wasting away.  She is a petite woman, and she played the game right, and good for her.  There are too many haters.

I don't believe that she's 5'6" first of all.  I think she's maybe 5'3" and they all lie up about their height.  Secondly, isn't 18 still in the technically healthy range but on the cusp?  She looked tiny but great in my opinion.  She just needs to get some of that extra skin cut off.

I can't believe that Helen is 5'6", she looks shorter than that to me.  She was TINY.  I think she looked great but had extra skin...same with Jerry.  I don't agree that he looked sicker.  It's just that he had a lot of extra skin, and when you're older and lose weight, you have more wrinkles than you did before because the skin isn't as tight.  He just needs to take his 100K and get some things tightened up.  When Mike walked out I thought he won for sure b/c he's thin and looks great.  Then I saw Tara, and I knew she lost it.  I think she knew it too before she stepped on the scale.  Disappointing to rule the whole thing and miss out by just a tiny bit in the end.  They all looked great though, some with more to go for sure, but it's a big accomplishment.

The Lounge Wearing engagement ring on right hand? May 12 2009

I do this.  The reason is because my engagement ring was custom made and a very unusual shape.  I initially thought that I would get a wedding band made to fit around it and wear them both on the same hand, but I then decided that doing so would ruin the look of the ring.  Plus, I wanted a more substantial wedding band, and it would just be too much on one finger!  Maybe people have been doing it more lately, because it seems like when I got married 3 years ago, everyone thought it was odd, but now I don't hear anything about it.

I CANNOT STAND Helen for this exact reason. Prior to last night I didn't really like ron either but I really respect him, especially after he pushed so hard to finish the marathon. The reason he did that was mainly to inspire his son Max. Which is AMAZING - and what he should do, it was the right thing.

Then you have Helen who is so selfish she didn't even ask them to keep her own kid there. I just can't imagine. And I am so sick of her whining and her pretending to be sincere.

Her own kid was all grown up and didn't particularly care about being there.  I appreciate that you never stop wanting what's best for your kids, but Shanon just wasn't at a place in her life yet where she was ready to make big changes.  Helen was.  I don't hold it against her at all, and I don't think it was a selfish decision.  I strongly suspect that the *only* reason Shanon went on the show was because Helen wanted to and needed a partner.  Under those circumstances, it would have been unfair for Shanon to stay and Helen to leave.  With Helen being in the right place mentally to benefit from the Biggest Loser experience, it makes most sense for her to absorb as much as she can then take it home to share with Shanon when Shanon is ready.  That way, everyone wins.

Helen's not my #1 favourite, but I do like her.  And I certainly like her a lot more than I like Ron!  I will be very happy to see Tara or Helen win.  I would have been happy to see Mike win but, if he does, I bet his dad takes credit for it and that would suck because Mike has progressed in spite of his dad not because of his dad.

This is so right on.  Shannon is going to be big for quite awhile.  I too get the feeling that the only reason she was on was because Helen needed a partner.  What, was Helen going to leave her in there *just* because she's her daughter and watch her go home when she fell below the yellow line the next week?

That said, I am not a huge fan of Helen's.  I am amazed by her accomplishment at her age.  But, she does seem a little fake to me.  She never seems to actually cry but instead make the "cry face" and whine.

I'm sick of Ron and his "one leg and one arm".  Dude, let's face it: you did this to yourself.  Then you did it to your kids.  And now you're on TV and all repentant and we're supposed to feel bad for you?  Please.  People coddle Ron too much.  Did you see his face when Mike only pulled 10 lbs??  The Godfather was ANGRY.  His little game didn't work out so well after all that manipulating, did it?

Team Tara.

I'm hoping Tara wins now.  Felipe was my favorite, although I know there wasn't really a chance that he could catch up to Mike or Tara.  I dislike Ron so much I just don't want to see his son win.  They are so cocky about Mike winning.  And Ron lied to Bob's face when he said he had no hand in the way Mike voted last week.

I think Tara will do better at home than Mike will.  At least I'm hoping she does so she can win it all.

I would like to see Nicole win the at home competition.

As usual deb, we're totally on the same page.  Can pg or someone else explain to me why Ron is less of a threat than Filipe?  I don't understand.  Hasn't Ron had more weight loss AND in the last few weeks especially been dropping the pounds like mad, AND, doesn't he have a lot more to lose than Filipe?  I cannot believe that Ron has made it to the final four.  It really pisses me off.  Go Tara!!!

Personally, I am so invested in this show that I'll be mad if anyone but Tara or Filipe win, and I know Filipe has zero chance, so it's gotta be Tara.  She is seriously an inspiration to watch.  Kristen is too, but I think she has a career ahead of her out of this as a speaker or perhaps a local talk show host.  She'll be fine.

OK three things:

1. Ron is evil- I've said it from like the 3rd week.  He technically kept his word while backstabbing Kristen.  Good for game play, but that's evil.  Just be up front about it.

2. Can someone explain to me why everyone is talking about Mike and Kristen being the only two possibilities to win TBL?  This is the first season I've watched, but why isn't Tara the front runner?  She kicks major butt.

3. Would anyone else LOVE to see a day in the eating of Bob filmed?  THAT is what I'd like to see.

Fitness An odd question about muscle soreness Apr 21 2009
19:55 (UTC)

I used to feel the exact same way when I only used machines!  I kept upping and upping my weights and did not feel sore, and I figured there was something wrong.  Since I've changed to free weights, I am sore in some way after nearly every workout, and it's been 3x a week for probably 3 months now.  The interesting thing is that you can't lift nearly as much weight either because it's not assisted.  Like, I can do 55 lbs on the bicep curl machine, but I am struggling at 15 lbs with dumbells.  I have to also say that although it's sometimes annoying to read everyone responding with "squats, lunges, and deadlifts", they really do work.

This is completely fair.  Have you ever been next to someone who "fit" into one seat but had to sit there with the armrest up, pressed thigh to shoulder against you even when they're sitting there with their arms folded?  It is not a pleasant experience for the normal-sized person, and it's not fair to ask them to subject themselves to that invasion of space when they both paid the same price for the ticket.

Hey Jafried, if Ron did find a plastic surgeon to lop off those rolls he could easily drop 30 pounds in one weigh in!  I wonder if they are alllowed to do that at home before the final weigh in?  Seems like there should be some sort of "no plastic surgery" until the final weigh in clause.

LOL!  I'm sure they have a clause like that somewhere, otherwise people would probably get lipo.

Peaches, I get what you're saying about it being a behavior that's passed down.  I do agree though that somebody has to break the cycle.  My mother was obese the entire time I was growing up, but she fed me an amazing diet, all natural, low sugar, etc.  To this day I don't like a lot of the "bad foods" because I never had them growing up.  The mother does have responsibility in here too, even though she is not obese like they are.

I was thinking about Ron and the excess skin too.  It's almost like at this point, a plastic surgeon just has to go in and lop off those rolls.  But then again, I can't stand Ron and think he's evil.  People like him that not only do that to themselves (200 lbs. at age 9 he said?!?!?) but to all of their children need to have some sort of consequence or fine or something.  I don't pretend to know what, but if you've got two kids under 20, one clearly over 400 lbs and one that was knocking on the door of 400 lbs., that's just wrong.  And it is the parents' fault in my opinion.

Tara drives me up the wall... sure, she's lost a HUGE amount of weight and she's a ferocious competitor, but she's such an 'all or nothing' type A personality that I really don't think all this success is good for her. She's also incredibly self-centered and 'I must win at all costs'. It seems to me that if she ends up coming in second, she'll go out the back and shoot herself or go home and eat her way back to 300lbs, which is the same thing in the end. She doesn't just want to win, she HAS to, and it's not healthy.

I liked Laura much better... she was in Tara's shadow all the time, but she seemed much more genuine, and her injury was a crying shame. I liked Tara even less for saying that Laura 'had' to stay despite her injury... sure she's her partner, but just think how devastating it would have been for Laura to stay in the house and to watch everyone else doing the things that she wasn't physically able to without risking a cripping injury?

I think this is a really unfair post.  First of all, what do you mean about all of this success not being good for Tara?  She is totally a type A personality, but what's wrong with that?  It's people that go for it with blinders on that end up winning in life.  Look at the big billionaires on Forbes's list...how many of them are not Type A?  And the selfish thing...let me reiterate the points that people have made previously on this post...it's a GAME.  It's about being selfish, it's about winning, it's about strategy.  Tara is in it to win it, so good for her.  I had to give it to her on this last challenge.  I love Filipe and wanted him to win it because he has so much heart, but for Tara to come back like that, again and again, and win challenges- it's truly a wonder to watch.  She is a fierce competitor and deserves the success she has, whether or not you like her as a person.

On the Laura comments, Tara was just backing HER up.  She said that she wanted to stay!  It's not like Tara was saying that she should stay when Laura had asked to go home.  On one hand, I know that sending Kristin home would be right for game play.  On the other hand, I wanted them to send Laura home because I just couldn't stand seeing both her AND Ron with all their crippling injuries trying to make a go of it when it's down to people that are really playing the game and have a chance of winning.  And, Kristin does have a lot to lose and is the dark horse and is an awesome girl.  Was Tara voting for Laura or for game play?  I think a little of both.  I think that every single person there was voting for game play.  Helen is a little schemer and voted for Kristin because she wants to win and Kristin is more of a threat, period.  Ron and Mike coated their decision to vote for Laura in the old "she needs to go home" which is total BS, they believe they have an alliance with Kristin and that she will keep them in it.  Filipe also believes he has an alliance with Kristin and did the exact same thing.

Re: Kallie's comment on Helen- I agreed initially that Helen should have gone home and kept her daughter there, but watching this weeks, I was thinking about the people at home.  Do you think Helen's daughter is going to have lost a substantial amount of weight when she comes back for the finale?  I don't.  I feel like Joelle, she just didn't have the motivation for whatever reason.  So if you think about it that way, if Helen had let her stay, she would have been off within a couple of episodes anyway and they as a team would have had no shot at the money.  However, Helen has proven time and time again that she is a game player and in to win.  So, maybe it was the right thing to do.

Starlit- if you look back on this thread you will see several people other than you talking about how cute Mike is.  I just don't get it, I'm sorry!  Like I said he seems like a nice person, but I agree with vals that it was a little annoying how he got so upset over the whole Ron thing.  But, I guess you can expect that from an 18 year old.  Not from a way grown man like Ron!  I do get the Sione cute thing though, he's lookin good!

Since I'm in the mood to vent on TBL today, let's talk about the whole trainer escapade with Filipe going off on Jillian.  Like I said, I like him, but that was way extreme and ridiculous!  OK why are they all CRYING when they have to change from Bob to Jillian?  That was just ridiculous!  They are both awesome and they both have their strengths and they should look at it as an opportunity to learn more and train in a different way!  And it's not like Bob was leaving the show or something, they still see the dude every day!  Filipe and Sione both were pouting like children, and it seemed like they were just waiting to find something wrong so they could go off and defect to Bob's team!  Yeah Jillian left Filipe alone on the treadmill too long, but I would think that there are times for all of them that they're left like that while she's training another one.  And come on, take some responsibility for yourself!  You've been doing the workouts for how many weeks and you can't do something other than the treadmill on your own???  I mean isn't that what we all do at the gym without a trainer?  I did lose some respect for Filipe that day, but I just find his positive attitude and enthusiasm for everything so contagious.

OK I love TBL and have been reading this thread for awhile now.  First of all, I HATE RON!!!  I've hated him ever since the "it's time for Mandi to go" episode.  I mean, who gave him the authority to make the call every week on his team whose time it was to go?  And then he kept coating his decisions in the whole "I think so and so has the support at home to continue, so and so still needs to be here" when it was 100% game play.  When he was saying that anyone who voted for him to go home the previous episode can DIE, that was way over the top.  He is in it to help Mike win, and that's it.

Speaking of Mike, I really need to break up some of this Mike lovefest that's going on here.  What is it exactly that makes him cute??   He seems like a nice kid and I feel bad for him and his brother obviously being raised by Ron the enabler who raised them fat their entire lives.  I wouldn't be totally mad if he won.  But cute???  Can we talk about the acne for a minute??  It's out of control.   He has no chin.  Come on people.

I would have liked to see Helen go home this week over Sione because I think she is annoying and snively and mostly weak-willed, but Laura would have been stupid to kick her off over Sione who was the #2 in the house behind Tara.  I like the Tongans both but I'm behind Felipe over Sione.  He just seems so genuine.  Yes, he can be annoying, but who isn't at some point?  But I have to say, my ultimate favorite is Tara.  She's tough, strong, determined, and very smart and strategic.  Yes, she can be a bit cocky.  But, she deserves to be...she's been schooling them this entire game.
