Hey. I am doing well. I have been making dinner every night from cooking light recipes. Last night I had portobello mushroom panninis and tonight I had pizza with onion, roasted red peppers and feta. It was so, so, so good. I got the recipes right from online for free. If you go to their website there is a recipe posted every day and they are amazing.

I eat hummus with Melba Snacks...they are like a toasted bread..hard cracker...very good. 5 crackers are only 50 calories and with the hummus it's equals about 100 calorie snack.

Hey. I started back to work yesterday and have been doing really well. Just discovered laughing cow cheese and having been eating it with melba toast...so yummy! A whole wedge of the cheese is only 35 calories and it is so fun to spread the cheese. And five crackers is only 50 calories. Great snack idea!!!

I was thinking...and I don't want to come across as rude, but should we start another group? Stacey - what do you think? Rachel?

I'm not trying to hurt anyones feelings, but I feel like we have lost most of the members of this group. Don't know what happened.

Here's my weigh in:

SW - 138

Last week - 136

Today - 134.5

Goal - 130 by end of year

This was a pleasant surprise today! I have been doing my deficit log and according to my strict record I needed about another 600 calorie deficit to be at 135 (which I thought wouldn't be until Sat. morning). This is truly why I love writing down deficits...playing the game to get to -3500. It is also nice to see that I am on the right track when counting calories and I am actually losing faster...which means I am really strict.

Did you plug in all your information on this site? You basically want a deficit of about 500 calories roughly.

Are you okay? I feel bad that you getting discouraged. When I felt like that a few weeks ago I finally just said to get over it and start fresh and not worry so much about everything that happened before.

The area that I live in is not the safest to run by myself and I don't have someone to run with that often. Not that I live in a bad area, we just have a problem with rape and it mostly falls on women jogging by themselves. We have a constant advisory in our area to never run or walk by yourself...ANYWHERE. So, no, I don't live in a prison. Excuse me for being cautious.

The other thing I am curious about is keeping pace. I think that is part of my problem...I run faster outside and get worn out too quickly. I am terrible with guessing how fast I am going. I think if I knew I was running an 11 minute mile I would be okay.

If you go to freedieting.com there is tons of information for you about zig zagging. If you start to plug in your numbers it will tell you exactly what to eat on what days...it's pretty neat actually. I figure that I natually zig zag, as I never eat the same amount of calories every day. I don't keep a log of my daily calorie intake but I do write down my deficit for every day. I keep track of my deficits and work to get to around -1700 a week to total a pound every two weeks. I find that I overestimate which is a pleasant surprise when I have calculated that I lost a pound, but the scale says I have lost much more. However, it also helps with stalls. For example, I haven't weighed myself since last week, but according to my calculations i just lost half a pound. So now when I do weigh myself I am not disappointed. It's almost like a game to me really...see how I can get my deficit to reach 3500 the fastest. And I don't stress myself out about it because I know if I screwed up one day I have x amount of days to recover. My overall goal is to me -3500 in two weeks and I find it pretty easy to achieve that.

Maybe you can take a month off - or two weeks if that is too long - and try to see how it works. If you still lose or maintain then you are fine, if not go back to counting. I plan to stop counting once I reach my goal, as I hope by that time I will have leaned so much and can do without all the math. I think that should be the goal..it seems crazy, or at least to me, to count every single calorie forever.

Kashi Go Lean cereal is pretty good and you not only get fiber, but protein as well. I am also a big fan of fiber one - granola bars and yogurts are good!

Happy Monday girls! I did really well last week, so I am feeling pretty great. I had dinner at a friends last night and it was okay. I did have a few glasses a wine, which I planned for. I really limited myself to the cheese and crackers before dinner, which was good for me since I can go crazy with that stuff. The dinner was healthy and then we had apple crisp for dessert. It was made from a cooking light recipe and was really good. So, all in all I did pretty well for a night out. I am pretty sure I broke even with calories, and that is all I ask for with days like that.

Rachel - I wanted to ask you, how much was your heart rate monitor? Do you have it on all the time? Do you find a lot of discrepencies with it compared to this site?

I don't know if I want one yet, but figured I would consider it.

So, do we want a weekly goal? Any ideas?
Fitness Elliptical questions Aug 24 2008

Maybe focus more on speed? Not really sure, but 3mph seems really, really low. What kind of shape are you in? How long have you been doing the elliptical? It sounds like you are doing way too high of a level if you can't go higher than 3mph.

I do 30 minutes as well...level five on the machine I use (life fitness) and try try to stay above 50rpms which is around 5-6mph..sometimes 7-8. I usually burn around 280-300 in that time.

If you are going to go that slow why not walk two 15 minute miles on a treadmill...then you will burn 200 calories in 30 minutes.

Fitness Is it Okay to work out 7 Days Per Week? Aug 24 2008

I think you should definitely add some weight training into the mix. You will lose fat, but once you reach your goal you will still have flab because you aren't toning with weights.

I workout 5-6 times a week and do cardio every day. What is important, I think, is to not do the same thing two days in a row. I would like to workout 7 days a week, but I find that the 7th workout sucks because my body is so tired and fights working hard. So, I really get more out of just 6 days.

I have been worried about the same thing! I have been thinking that I can handle the temptation this year, but I was at work the other day and instead of having my packed salad I had a hot dog. Not good! My school is infamous for treats...we are always celebrating something with a huge cake or tons of other treats. I was good and avoided these peach muffins this summer, but it was so hard!!!

I am starting to feel a bit better. I guess i just get into this rut where I feel like I will never lose any weight and even if I do I will never actually look thinner. And I gotta tell you, those commercials where they advertise fitness videos and these disguistingly thin women are on and claim they have lost a million pounds in two weeks by just doing this video is quite depressing. I don't know why, but I want to burst into tears every time I see it. I know these videos are scams, but just watching these people transform so much makes me mad.

I've been doing really well lately. I have had about a 500 cal deficit for the whole week except for one day when I broke even, so I am happy. My new goal is to be at 130 by Christmas. It is only 6 pounds, but I want to give myself plenty of time to accomplish it, so it is realistic.

So, do we want to have a weekly goal that starts on Monday? We talked earlier about doing that? Any suggestions? I was thinking of trying to up water intake, but I kinda like the unplanned exercise and think this week might be good since summer is fading...and I know for me any unplanned exercise has to do with the outside since I workout five days a week planned.

My eating is pretty good. I typically eat a healthy breakfast (a piece of whole wheat toast, or a hard boiled egg, or oatmeal) then for lunch I have a salad. I usually have a snack which consists of either a piece of string cheese, yogurt, fiber bar, etc. Then I eat a healthy dinner. I know that one thing is I don't get enough water. I felt unbelievebaly bloated the other day after I had a skinny latte with sugar free syrup at starbucks. I was constipated for days. I religiously count calories and range from no deficit to 500 calories.

Hey everyone. Sorry I missed weigh in yesterday. I was out all day and couldnt get on the computer. But here it is one day late

SW - 138

Currenty - 136 - which is the same as last week i think

Goal - 130

I am really getting annoyed with all of this really. I feel like my stomach is so fat it is so discouraging. Granted, my stomach has gone done about a half inch, but last night it was several inches more because of bloating. I am so depressed about it.

I like the idea of a goal. Maybe we can make it a weekly goal so everyone has time within the week to accomplish it? I was also thinking we could have a weekly food goal. For example, to have x amount of protein or fiber or whatever. I already cheated today and had a hot dog at work instead of my salad!! I feel so grossly bloated too, so that didn't help. And tonight's dinner is not too healtthy, I just got a pannini maker and tonight is going t be trying it out.

Well I am just going to get back on track. I did really well eating so far today and will start again from here. I posted this on the fitness board and didn't get the answer I was looking for so I will ask you girls. What do you log when you do weights? I do about 20 minutes at the gym after I run and have no clue how to log it because I don't know have any idea how many calories I am burning. Of course the answer I got was to get a heart rate monitor. I'm not doing that just for that! So what do you girls think? Also, while we are on the topic, what do you log as far as activities? I recently moved mine to the lowest level for every day and just log working out.

And just to vent on this really quick. I wanted to get back on track last night and knew I had to go to Olive Garden for dinner with my fiance's family. I was SO good and looked up the calories online for their whole menu to plan out what I would eat. Well, when I got there none of my choices were on the menu. I was so not happy!!!
