stick with whatever is processed the least...ie...aspartame and other weird preservatives and sweeteners found in "DIET" foods. remember, moderation is key. with cheese, go for the sharpest cheddar to get the most flavor, so that you dont have to eat as much to get the same effect. dont throw out your food. its unnecessary and wasteful. just learn how to eat it correctly.

Fitness Anyone else do Pilates? Nov 12 2009

I took two different pilates classes a week for a little over a year with two different instructors. One included a lot of recoveries between sets and the other was entirely flow. we didnt stop moving. the combination of both of those for 2-3 hours a week as well as eating healthy completely transformed my body. I didnt do a whole lot of other exercise. and now that i havent done it in almost 8 months due to school, i am seeing the changes again. I am ready to get back into the dance studio to take more pilates classes.

I think it is definately worth a shot to try and if you find it is not showing the results you want, try something else. I enjoyed pilates because i grew up a dancer and absolutely suck at running so pilates was the best for me.

Fitness Anatomy Question Oct 01 2009

Muscles are attached to bones with ligaments, which are stretchy elastic fibers. Muscles themselve contract (shorten) and return to a ready rest state (tonus) but are ready to contract again when the Action Potentials are activated by the nervous system. You are stretchier then others because you have worked those ligaments and muscles to that point. That is evident in that the first time you tried to do the splits, you probably couldnt get your legs completely straight...but now you can....

So....being a med student... you obviously understand the importance of eating nutritious balanced foods and reducing the amount of stress to enable your brain to function at its peak levels for studying, right? Why not focus less on calories and losing weight and just take the next 6 weeks and eat HEALTHY, nutritous, balanced foods. veggies, fruits, grains, lean proteins, dairy.. its not brain surgery...only keep on hand nutritous foods...bring carrots, celery, apples, nuts to snack on at school, avoid the cafeteria or food court...you have to get rid of that ALL or NOTHING "I can only be eating poorly or dieting" attitude. its not going to get you far...especially once you get out of med school...

Try the Flat Out flatbreads. I use the Whole Wheat version, 100 cals. Then i use about 40g of mozzarella (part skim, low mosture) some basil (either fresh from my garden or dried from my spice rack, and then load it up with all sorts of veggies (usually tomatoes, green peppers, stop light peppers, banana peppers, jalapenos, all sorts of veggies...maybe some grilled or baked chicken cut up really thin) then bake it for about 10 minutes and slice it up and eat it and oh it is soooo yummy!!!! with no chicken its about 250 to 275 calories for the entire thing. I usually buy a big thing of the flatbreads at costco and freeze them and eat about 3 or 4 a week!!!!

Sarah Palin is the perfect example.. if you have a baby when you're old, it could very well to turn out, for lack of better word, retarded.

Er how about "birth defects" or "Down's Syndrome" or anything that is not "retarded"? ffs

It's just a word. It doesn't make any sense to get upset over a word.

It actually lists "retardation" in my Lifespan Development book as a risk to older mothers (past age 35). so in essence, they can be "retarded"

You said your daughter doesnt like to exercise, but does she like any sports, or dance? or gymnastics? what about swimming? maybe she might be interested in activites that arent "working out"

I agree with the cooking idea. let her work out of her cook book and also challenge her to come up with some ideas and recipes for dinner for the family once a week where she is forced to use the knowledge she is learning about healthy eating and nutrition to feed the whole family.

and finally i think you have the right idea about making it more about nutrition and being healthy instead of being thin. thats the problem most adults get mixed up about. even the skinniest person can be unhealthy.....

I applaud you for taking the time to help your daughter and the rest of the family with this matter!

I reccomend the Dyson Pet Hair...Hands down. I have the older version (it is purple). Got it at Big Lots for under 300 a few years ago and it still works like brand new. I was bargain shopping for the Dyson..you CAN find them more affordable! I have two long hair cats and a short hair cat and short hair dog. It literally makes my carpet look and smell brand new!

I am telling you from experience that you can lose weight even if your percentages are off. I lost 25 lbs in the last year ONLY counting calories which no concern over %s.  It seems that if you are constantly hitting 100 to 300 below your reccomended of 1200, the reason you may NOT be losing as fast as you want is you are STARVING. ALSO, those last 10 lbs are gonna be the hardest....
