Health & Support depo-provera weight question May 06 2007

I gained 60 pounds in 3 years while I was on Depo. I didn't eat any worse while I was on it than I did before. I got off of it and went to LoEstrin and immediately lost 10 pounds. Again, did not change my eating habits there. I'm still fighting to get the weight off, but it's slowly coming off for me.

As far as no periods, I still don't have them. I do not go off of my pill. This was a suggestion of my doctor who has his daughters do the same. I've done this for several years now with no problems. A friend told me how unhealthy she thought it was to have "all that blood still in there". Sadly, this opened my eyes to how little some women know about their bodies. There's no build up of the lining, so it's not like you have a bunch of blood just lying around if you don't have a period.

Side note on the pill.....in order for the Catholic church to be ok with it, it had to serve some purpose OTHER than birth control......which ended up being regulation of menstrual cycles.

Weighed myself today.....I'm down 4 pounds in 17 days. I'm thrilled. It may not be much, but it's DOWN. I've found this site extremely helpful in counting calories and feel that's helped tremendously. I weigh in weekly with a group of terrier owning friends from around the country and that's been a great support, too. I'm 33 pounds from my goal that I hope to reach by the first of September. I've got some cute capris that I can't wait to wear at my dog shows this summer!

Well, I guess shame on me for talking to the doctor before I started it and not being told. I felt I had asked questions and looked into it and trusted that I had a doctor that knew what they were talking about. Apparently, I was wrong. I'm not medically inclined....At least it's worked for some women. From my personal experience, I still wouldn't recommend it.

I'm 30 years old, 5'2" and 211 as of this morning. I just signed up to calorie-count yesterday. I'm a bit larger framed and very busty....BMI says I should be 122, but that's WAY too skinny for me...I'd look like hell. At 150, I wore a size 7. I'm good with that. I was on the Depo shot for 3 years and gained 60 pounds in that time frame. After talking with several other women, I do not advocate any woman being on it. Most everyone I've spoken to gained 10-20/year on it.

I have jack russell terriers and have met some WONDERFUL friends through showing and hunting my dogs. We have a little email group of us that does a diet challenge. Each Friday we weigh in. This round, we are going 8 weeks. We each pay in some money and whoever loses the most weight at the end of the round gets a gift certificate to a jack russell terrier based store. It doesn't cost us much, keeps us accountable, and gives us a great support base. We each commit to exercising at least 45 minutes/day for 4 days a week. I've started walking on a tread mill. I've found that it goes quicker if I change something every 5-10 minutes, ie, incline goes up a little, comes back down, but speed goes up a little, etc. I lost 1.2 pounds since yesterday.....I think the food log had a lot to do with that, too.

I host a jack russell terrier trial over Labor Day weekend each year. My goal is to be at 175 by this year's trial. I've got some cute little capris I'm just dying to wear to show my dogs!!!
