Can I join too? I am 5'2", 120 and need some extra motivation. I want to be 115 by Christmas. That's a lot I know, but I think I can do it if I stick to it these next 3 weeks. |

Stats: female, 22, 5'2", 116 lbs. Breakfast- 6oz nonfat yogurt, 1 cup whole grain cereal Lunch-3oz turkey, whole grain bread, 1 banana, 1 peach, dozen whole grain crackers Snack-Peach Dinner-Fresh veg medley of cucumber, broc, carrots, cauliflower, lettuce with some baslamic vinigerette, Smartones meal-chicken alfredo (please don't crucify me here even though I deserve it) Snack-6oz nonfat yogurt, apple Snack-peach Ok so I was definitely feeling the peaches today, in-season and tasting amazing. I love fruit as you can probably tell. It's my go to snack of choice. I would love to hear any suggestions, comments, or feedback anyone has. Today I did a 20 minute early morning run with a 30 minute afternoon lifting session. My goals are to decrease body fat. That's it. I am fairly muscular and looking to maintain that. I am the dreaded skinny fat and working to get it down again. Fire away with anything you might have. I need all the help I can get. |

Thanks for the ideas. I really like running outside if I can so that is my first choice but the weather isn't quite warm enough for me yet. I will probably switch it up doing HIIT and the longer steady state workout depending on what I feel like that day. |

Ok now my question is what kind of workout can I do that is going to last 45 minutes? That is a pretty boring treadmill experience. Any ideas on how to spice it up? |

I have time to do the longer workout. I guess "better" to me would mean which workout is going to result in more fat loss and an increase in NEAT. Can you explain why the 45+ minute steady state would be a better option? |

I have tagged a lot of the staple foods I eat and that has simplified the process so much. Now that I'm much more aware of how many calories are in the food I'm eating I don't log as much, but I still know how many I'm consuming in a day. So this week I decided I really need to focus more on eating for fuel and preparing for the season. So I'm been eating more than usual, especially earlier in the day to fuel my afternoon workouts. I'm a senior, it's my last year, and I'm going to be a ball player and not go for that 115 look. In reality, it's only a small period of time in the grand scheme of life. And I can live with that. Oh PS-Even though I've upped my calories I lost a pound this week. Go figure. I guess I fall into that category of people who weren't eating enough in the first place or I have had the extra energy to work harder at training and am burning more calories. Either way, I never thought that was an issue for me. Live and learn I guess. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

qm-you nailed it when you asked do I want to be thinner or do I want to be a kick ass bball player? That's really the question at large here. As time goes on though I find myself thinking more along the lines of being a ball player now and leaner later. But that could change tomorrow...ha! Hence why I asked for opinions. :) It's hard to say what my bf% is now. Last spring I was around 13% but I weighed like 113 so it's def higher now. The thing is that I'm pretty muscular and I would even venture to say that I'm more muscular than most women. It's just that I feel like I would be more toned at a lower weight bc there is a layer of fat over my muscles now. I understand what you're saying though about the concept of bf though. And I completely agree-I would much rather have a trim/slim body at a higher weight than be fluffy at a lower weight. Thank you both for your replies. They are both helpful. :) |

Ok I've got a question and anyone feel free to give some feedback. I would love to be 115 again, but I'm afraid it's purely for superficial reasons like being able to wear my favorite jeans again and looking better in my clothes. However, I play college basketball and being 120 is a better weight for me athletically speaking because I have more strength and speed. Right now I'm having a difficult time losing these 5 pounds because of the weekends and because I know it's really important for me to eat well given that I train 3x a week conditioning and with weights plus 2 days a week of scrimmaging. So finally the question, should I give this goal up and just stick with maintaining because I'm trying to get stronger and faster with my preseason training or go with the goal of 115 because that's where I feel I like my body the best? I'm getting really tired of trying to figure this out, it seems like everyday I come to a different conclusion. Thanks for any comments. :) |

Happy anniversary QL! And Happy Friday to you all. Woot woot! I'm feeling pretty good about the weekend. I just got done with a killer conditioning session and I think it has got me thinking in the right direction for the weekend. This weekend my motivation is going to be the 4 mile run I'm going on in the morning to help a friend train for a marathon while reminding myself "no food tastes as good as thin feels". Love that one. Now if this scale business works out for me tomorrow morning I'll be in business....:) What all have you planned for the weekend? Me-4 mile run and core workout tomorrow, Sunday will be 45 minutes of basketball scrimmage. |

Thanks for the replies. I know mathematically it doesn't add up, but at the same time I feel all the nasty effects of the crappy food I ate. This makes me feel all sluggish and fluffy. Gross, I just need to keep this feeling in mind next time. Ok but whats done is done and now all I can do is work towards my goal...again. prettypink-thanks for your comments. I know that slow and steady is an approach I need to be taking but I'm the kind that wants results and now! queen-how do you get through the weekends?

Thanks for your encouragment queenmedia. You make a really good point about no food being as good as thin feels. I need to remember how I felt last saturday night when I put on those jeans next time I reach into the fridge for the millionth time. 125 is my freak out number too and I do the exact same thing. I will be really careful for the rest of the week and after about 5 days or so I seem to lose control again. But today was a good day and I guess I just have to build on that. It's so hard bc I know how much damage I did these past few days and how today was only a small small part of fixing that damage. Nonetheless it's still a move in the right direction. Thanks again! :) |

I'm afraid I fell off the wagon and rolled into the grand canyon where I decided I wasn't in deep enough and dug myself an even bigger hole while at the bottom. So I guess what I'm trying to say is I had a bad weekend. 3 days of horrible eating and a weight gain of 2-3 pounds, like the serious kind, not the "you ate a lot and it's water weight kind". I don't know why I do this. I want more than anything to lose weight but very time I take a step forward I take two back. I'm the same as queenmedia-love my clothes at 115, nightmare at 121. I can barely get my fat jeans over my thighs and it just kills me. I think that's what started my bad weekend off. Trying on those jeans and then deciding that since they didn't fit I might as well eat what I want. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. I need to make adjustments so I can stop these weekend attacks, but I'm at a loss. I know I could just go hang out with friends instead or find someone to talk to but it seems that when I want to eat that's all I can really think about and it always happens. Anyone have any advice? |

And the verdict is...119. I'm pretty good with that. I just need to make good of this weekend and stay on track. So far so good. I'm sorry to hear you had a not so great week queen. I hope this week goes better for you. :) I'm not a big lentil fan but then again I haven't had a lot of experience with them. I've learned to love so many other vegetables, I should probably give them a whirl. |

Thanks queenmedia, that was exactly the step by step direction I was looking for. Thank you! :) Don't forget tomorrow is weigh in day. I hope this works for everyone. If you don't usually do it on Saturday you can give your best estimate or latest weight. How about this for a little weekend motivation: Share something you did this past week that was a postive contribution to your weightloss/fitness goals. Mine was Wednesday when I had a maintenance day because I had a family get together and stayed within my limit while at the same time enjoying my meal and time with family/friends. This makes me want to work hard this weekend and stay on track with my goals because I know I can do it, plus I want to get that day back and have some real weight loss this week. |

I actually have a full kitchen but do make a lot of frozen foods. Gotta love those frozen dinners. I was thinking this soup thing sounded like a nice change of pace plus I get cold pretty easy and love the warmth of a nice steaming bowl of soup. Do you just mix all the ingrediants together in a pot? How long do you cook them together and how high? Squishy is an excellent word right now for how I feel as well. I don't have any excuses though, just too many "breaks" this summer from a more healthy lifestyle. I love being at school with a routine, this helps me a lot. What are some of the strategies that you use to maybe avoid eating something or snacking when you know you're not really hungry? Does anyone know how many baby carrots a serving size is? The serving size is 3.3 ounces and I don't have a scale. I am really getting into munching on these but I want to make sure I'm logging it right. |

I'm going to have to third the motion on galas being the absolute best! I have to admit also that I go for a diet soda when I need that extra filler. What are your favorite recipes for homemade soup? I am really into the cambells light soups right now. I go to college so any suggestions that are simple and pretty easy would be great. PS Saturday=weigh in day. :) |

Hey naomi! Welcome! Since I am shorter like you I like to eat things that I know are going to fill me up while still staying within my calorie limit. I go with foods like apples, oatmeal (sugar-free), bananas, and broccoli. Those are my staples. Working in a restaurant must be hard, heck I worked near the food court at a mall and that was way challenging for me. So I weighed myself today and actually gained 2 pounds since last time. :( Too much alcohol this weekend plus I way overate Saturday and Sunday. I knew it was going to happen but I still don't like seeing it. I have a feeling this is real weight too (not water retention) because it's been a week or two since I checked. I wish I hadn't let myself go this much...I was 115 at the beginning of the summer. Gosh! Mini rant over. How is everyone else's week going? Do we want to have a weigh-in day? |

Welcome prettypink and olivia77! I hope everyone's day went well. As long as I can keep the night snacking under control it will be a good day for me. Does anyone else struggle with this? oh and just for fun, let's post why getting these last few pounds is important. For me, I just remember feeling the best at that weight in my clothes and I had a fairly toned body. I miss that the most-having the mind of an athlete and the muscle to match. |

I'm having the same experience. I'm at a loss right now about how to lose these pounds. Over the summer I was away from the gym so I could only do running workouts with no weights. Hopefully now that I have access to a gym the weight training will help out as well. I do 3 days of strength training a week and 5 days of cardio. The weekends are killing me though. If I could just stick to my weekday eating routine on Sat and Sun I know I would make more progress. What are you thinking about trying to mix things up a bit? I'm thinking about adding more cardio since I only do about 30 at a time. |

Those are all great responses. I was curious to hear what other people think about what health really is because I'm trying to figure out exactly what that means for me. I agree with pgeorgian and find the more balanced my physical, mental, and emotional aspects of my life are, the less attention I place on calorie and scale numbers. In all, I would like to move away from the day to day calorie counting and focus more on "being healthy" in a way that doesn't involve numbers. |

Tadpole-Your comments are great and I couldn't agree more with you. I am studying nutrition right now in college and the information I received is right on target with what you presented. I'm glad to finally see some information that is actually accurate and scientifically proven presented in a forum. |
