Ok so you go from never working out to working out.  Already in the small amount of time that you have been working out you are increasing your endurance.  Specifically you are making your heart, bones, and body stronger.  Fortunately that also means you are making more muscle.  And while you are building that muscle (which does weight a little bit more than your fat) it burns your fat faster the more muscle you have.  SOOOOOO what? right.  Well because you are counting your calories, exercising more than 20 minutes 3-4 times a week, you WILL (let me repeat WILL) loose weight faster than just eating fewer calories alone.

Trust me I have a long way to go before I get to my goal but I have been running 4 miles 3 times a week (started out at 1 mile) and even though I haven't lost a ton of weight with in my first month, everyone looks at me and sees the difference.  Your body is benefiting from the exercise so DON'T STOP.  Keep it up you are doing great!!!!

Pregnancy & Parenting PCOS? Signs and symptoms? Jul 10 2008

Unfortunately I don't think they are.  Cysts would be in your ovaries because they develop in your tubes or uteras.  But I am not medical doctor so anyone can chime in if I am wrong.  When I get cysts they are usually in my tubes.  Sorry I know that is discouraging but hang in there.  My doctor gave me hormones for three months and I was a mess until I stopped taking them.  Other than that he has never prescribed me any medication either.  He just told me that I should have sex as often as possible and no birth control of any sort (when we were trying to get pregnant) now that I am done having kids he still hasn't given me any medication so I wouldn't worry, it just depends on what your body does with the hormones.

Pedita~

I know it sounds difficult now but think of you getting pregnant as your goal.  As long as you stay motivated and keep your goal in mind the pounds will fly off.  Try boosting your exercise routine.  Walk farther or faster than you have before.  Try going at least 30 minutes as fast as you can then make sure you stretch afterwards.  Also make sure you write everything down (everything).  Make sure you stay within your Calorie range and just doing it.  Every day you do it is one less day you have to worry about.  When I run I still get anxious but every time I do it I feel so much better.  Both times I lost 30 pounds I would get pregnant so shoot for 30 and when you get there shoot for 40.

Good luck and best wishes!

You have already had a great reply to this but I wanted to put my 2 cents in.  I am an identical twin and my sister and I are polar opposites.  She has no problems getting pregnant and no problems with her cycle.  Me on the other hand I have PCOS and it took me a long time to conceive my two children.  I think the support you receive is critical.  Because every time you take that pregnancy test you are going to cry.  Everytime you go to the doctor he is going to tell you to hang in there and keep trying and you will still cry.

The thing that you have to do is just keep looking forward.  I remember saying tons of times, "this is the last pregnancy test I am buying" and then saying it again and again and again.  People with PCOS are fighters.  Because we fight every month just to not want to stay in bed from the pain when we get those stupid little cysts.  Which by the way for me get worse now that I am on BC.  When I wasn't taking BC I didn't ovulate which was nice because I didn't get very many cysts.  But now that I don't want to get cancer I started taking BC and every time I am about 12 days in I start getting them.  It stinks.

Ok I am just a ray of sunshine!!  Really though I understand what you are going through only because I have just lived through it.  Your sister is so right God (please don't be offended) has a special purpose for you and if you have your period it just means that you get one more day with your husband all to yourself.  Hang in there, your body will figure it out eventually.

It is good that you are talking about it to.  It is healthy to get those feelings out.  I wish I had blogged about it when I was going through it.  I think it would have helped to get that link with someone that knew what I was going through.

Good luck with everything!

Motivation Friends and family are acting like getting healthy is a bad thing... Jun 17 2008

I know I work with several people that I personally feel and see that they look great.  However they do not like themselves the way they look.  I know that when I was younger it was alway "You need to loose some weight" or "Are you sure you want to eat that?" from my family, so take it as a compliment that they don't think you need to loose weight.  Tell them that you just don't feel good (healthy).  Then when they see that you are starting to eat better and exercise more and that you are basically doing what you wanted they can't help but see that you are happy.  I have a friend that was/is anorexic and I can always tell when she is not doing so well.  She just isn't happy.  If you friends/family start to see that you aren't happy then they may question you but if they see you are happy then they won't doubt that you are doing what you need to be doing.  Also invite them to sign up for the website and become one of your friends.  Then they can see how you are doing and they won't have to say anything.

OH MY GOSH!!  60 pounds are you kidding me.  CONGRATULATIONS!!  I can't wait until I can say that.  Sealed  Keep up the hard work.

I have heard that in some cases many people who have had extra large bodies (like me at 300 pounds) tend to still think of themselves as fat even when they reach their goal weight.  It is a very similar problem to what Anorexics have.  I have a friend who is anorexic and she says she still fights it every day.  You just have to look at yourself and realize that you are beautiful and that you worked DAMN hard to get there and you don't want to start all over.  Again speaking from experience (every time I lost 30 pounds I would get pregnant and have to start all over because I had no self control) you have to keep pushing yourself.  It is a never ending struggle this addiciton we have.  Never ending.

I haven't even seen your picture and already I am sure that if I do I will see a healthier and happier you.

Seriously good work and don't give up the fight.

I know you probably don't want to hear this (especially with the purchase of the pricy but well worth it Elliptical) but I have several friends who swear by Spinning.  Two of them hated their thighs and as soon as they spent a month doing spinning classes a couple times a week they lost about 2" both.  Maybe you could try it but I just thought I would put in my two cents. Good luck though it whatever you try.Cool

I think that the biggest problem that I have had is what I am noticing from a lot of posts.  The weight is not coming off fast enough.  I have been logging since May 1, 2007 and have only lost a little over 15 pounds.  Since I have a lot to go that isn't that much but then last week I started noticing a few things.  The past two times I was on Weight Watches (both times very successfull)  I lost about 30 pounds within the first 12 weeks and by the end of the twelve weeks you could really tell.  Since the end of June, I have started noticing the same thing.  My feet aren't as swollen at the end of the day, my pants are just a little baggier in the bottom and legs.  My watches and bracelets feel looser and my shirts aren't as snug as they used to be.

If you look at yourself, I mean really look at yourself and then after you have been doing this for a month look again, you will see the changes.  I have thought about doing photo's but not sure I want to but maybe I should it might help to see the difference since the weight loss on this site will be more gradual than a "diet" would be but we will see.

Congrats to everyone who hit their goals this week, weigh in day is tomorrow for me and I peeked this morning and was down again so watching it tightly today so can have a great Tuesday again! :)

Keep positive and hang in there.

My name is Mindy and my husband and I are on Calorie-Count.com together.  We live in Ogden UT and have two children.  I have been overweight the whole time I have been married and have been on Weight Watchers and successful at it until I got pregnant than I gained it all back.  The most I have ever lost was 30 pounds so that is my first goal, to loose at least 30.  I have 100 to go though so ultimately that is what I want.  I want to be 200 pounds.  I am 30 years and at old, 5'10 almost 5'11" and I think that is where I will be happiest.  I was 185 all through high school and was in track and field but I don't think I will be able to maintain that.  So 200 it is.  I am not your typical over weight person though.  I haven't yo-yoed and because I am so tall people don't usually believe me that I am 300 pounds.  I have always played sports never really had any problems working out (I can climb stairs and not need a breather).  I really am lucky because I don't have diabetes or high blood pressure or bad knees but I know that if I don't loose the weight I will.  So that is me.  I want to make friends over this thing because I know from experience that it helps and makes it more fun.  So add me to your list.

First of all Calm down, you are only human!  Baby steps, remember.  You can do this.  Since you picked up the Prevention Magazine you can't just expect to change over night.  Try doing one thing first mastering that then moving on to the next thing.  And if someone offers you cake take what they give you but don't eat it all, eat some and then throw the rest away.  Several times I have taken a bite of pie and that was it.  I threw the rest away.  It killed me but I did it.  You are going to make mistakes especially eating too much.  It is a habit now but don't worry you are stronger than any one and you can do this.
