| I personally do not do well with chocolate. I've tried giving into my cravings in moderation, but it eventually backfires. What I've been doing lately, is grabbing a mocha in the morning on my way to work. This has been working awesome.
I hope one day to be able to eat a piece of chocolate, savor it, and get on with my day. But until I reach that level of self control, the mocha has been sufficing just fine. |

| ^^^yeah, but if she doesn't have a scale, that still won't help.
If you're talking low cal vegetables such as snap beans, spinach, etc, try not to sweat it. The difference is going to be negligible. Take this coming from a person who is in recovery from her obsessive measuring and counting...give yourself a break. You're developing better habits and getting a better idea of portion sizes. Are you going to measure vegetables forever? At least try and stick to focusing your obsessive measuring on rice and more calorie dense things. |

| The Lounge | i quit smoking once.. | Nov 08 2007 07:30 (UTC) |

| I am 29 and have been smoking for 13 years. Yikes! Cigarette tax increased here (Iowa) recently and I started rolling. I thought that might help me to at least cut down, but nope. Now I'm just really good at rolling.
My parents quit together 11 years ago, and I know they'd love to see me do the same. Especially my dad-he has pretty advanced emphysema (sp?). But all the cool kids are doing it! No, really, I NEED to quit also, just haven't been so moved yet. |

| I've never heard of this guy or his book, but what you described is what I've been doing ever since going into maintainence mode.
I focus (mostly) on complex carbs and protein 6 days a week, and on Saturdays I let loose. Actually, I let TOO loose...I end up eating waaayy too much. I'm talking several thousand too many. But, I am maintaining my weight and have been for several months now. I do have a deficit throughout the week, although I'm unsure as to exactly how much. Probably ranges from 3-700. |

| I am a chronic depressive, have been as long as I can remember. (I'm 29 now) I've been doing really well the past few years, haven't been on meds or in therapy. But, when negative thoughts very similar to the ones you're describing started invading my brain again recently, I knew it was time to seek help again. Ever done the therapy thing? | |||
| Foods | Extreme Favor --Low Calorie | Nov 02 2007 06:24 (UTC) |

| Not extremely low cal, but I love toasted slivered almonds on salads, in pilafs, and in oatmeal. It really doesn't take too much for the flavor to come through, maybe 1/8 to 1/4 oz. | |||

| a tall (12 oz) cappuccino, skim, from starbucks is listed at 60 cals. It might be a little more if it was heavier, like a latte. A cappuccino should be really light and frothy, but some places just don't know how to froth milk. So, I'd guess probably 60-80 cals. | |||

| It's been a few years since I was on it. It did help lift my depression, but I took it in combination with adderall. Adderall (sp?) is actually an attention deficit disorder med, but it's also used to help with depression. Both of those meds are known to cause weight loss. I lost several pounds when I was on them, but was not at all overweight to begin with. I've heard others who were overweight say they also lost pounds. | |||
| Foods | unhealtly falafel | Oct 31 2007 21:39 (UTC) |

| I think it really depends on where you're getting the falafel. The local place I go to, for example, doesn't deep fry. They flash fry in soybean oil, which isn't quite so bad. Keep plugging away with your homemade, it takes a little practice. | |||

| I know how that goes...discovering a new food love and wanting to eat nothing else. It'll pass, trust me. In the mean time, I just discovered my new fave combo-steamed kale and sweet potato chunks. Or kale and roasted butternut squash chunks. Yum. And..at least your new favorite isn't peanut butter m&ms or something. |

| Recently, a young college girl came into my pizza shop to pick up a pie. It gets hot in the store with all the ovens blazing, so I normally wear tank tops. She said, "You have the most amazing shoulders!" Being almost 30, hearing a compliment from a younger female was incredibly flattering. | |||
| Foods | Help me please to calculate my cheating day. I am not that brave to do that myself. | Oct 29 2007 00:39 (UTC) |

| Safina-granted, I'm no longer losing. But about once every week or two I have a relaxed day (okay...a crazy eating day) where I often eat up to 5000 calories. The scale goes up for a couple of days, then levels off. Actually, this past week my weight REALLY went down after my big eating day. I've been hovering around 110 for awhile. After that day I was up to about 113 for a couple of days, then it abruptly dropped down to 108 where I've been for several days. I normally eat around 17-1800. What I'm saying, is that sometimes your body really needs a good shock of fatty, high calorie foods. Mine seems to like it anyway. |

| I don't know exactly where you live, but in my town of about 60,000 (in Iowa) we have a community mental health center with a sliding fee scale. I'm having some pretty obsessive food issues lately, also, and made an appointment with a therapist a couple of weeks ago. Of course, to qualify for the sliding fee you have to be poor enough. "Luckily" I am barely poor enough, so I only have to pay about 10 bucks per session. | |||
| Weight Loss | Peppermint | Oct 27 2007 23:53 (UTC) |

| I've been on an altoid kick lately. Ten calories for three pieces. Yeah, they're pretty tiny, but they are the curiously strong mint. They last quite a long time. They have cinnamon now, too, that are pretty awesome. | |||
| Foods | Could this be worse then I thought? | Oct 27 2007 00:57 (UTC) |
|
| Lots of food items get bad grades on cc. Who cares? Walnuts get a bad grade while crappy processed foods often get an A. Makes no sense. When I was losing, I didn't log food on this site. I just used paper and pencil. I think it can be beneficial for some to make sure they're getting the proper balance of protein, carbs, fats, etc. But as far as grades...take them with a grain of salt.
If you like your coffee so much, drink it. I certainly do. Simple pleasures in life must be had. (unless we're talking about chocolate cake for breakfast every day-I personally couldn't do it) Something that small is not going to impact your weight loss, imo. |

| Foods | Do YOU eat when your NOT hungry? | Oct 25 2007 01:31 (UTC) |
15 |
| Yes, because if I don't, then I end up getting REALLY hungry without realizing it and then eat way too much. For now, anyway, I have set snack/meal times and I stick to them +/- a half hour or so. It keeps my body happy and prevents me from ever actually being hungry. | |||
