Foods Why are sweetners bad for you? Jul 29 2007
00:46 (UTC)
I don't eat them because they give me migraines. Basically they're unnatural. Right now I don't eat refined sugar or artificial sweeteners, so I'll only use a little honey or maple syrup to sweeten things. I think it's better to just use sugar in moderation and adopt healthy eating habits instead of eating "diet" foods that are made of chemicals.
Foods Food of the day: Asparagus Jul 29 2007

I recently tried asparagus that's steamed for a couple of minutes (just barely tender) then put in a pan with dijon mustard and a tiny bit of real butter and rolled around for a minute or two. It makes this fantastic glaze. My boyfriend normally hates aspargus and I'm only okay on it but he loved it, and my brother even ate all of his when I made it for him. It's super yummy.
Weight Loss binging on cookies vs bindging on fruit Jul 29 2007

now I want cookies and fruit. mm... cookies and fruit. In answer to the question, the fruit is good calories whereas some of the cookie calories are empty (nutritionally speaking) so they're not doing much for your body. But they're probably tasty. If you're trying to decide I would eat a bunch of fruit and have 1 cookie. Then you'll be full (you can eat a lot more fruit for the same calories probably) and still have a cookie. ^.^
The Lounge Why do people....(fill in the blank)? Jul 28 2007

why do people not bother to use the paper towel dispenser correctly?! At work, in the washroom there's a dispenser that involves pushing down on a bar/lever to make paper towels come out at the bottom. And there is a DIAGRAM right there of an arm pushing on the lever. So even being illiterate is not an excuse. PUSH IT WITH YOUR ARM! ugh. People wash their hands, then push the lever with their wet hands, so it's all wet, so nobody can push it with their arm. A tiny thing, really, but REALLY annoying because when it's wet you can't do it right even if you want to.
Recipes Frozen Blueberries Jul 28 2007

I've been craving ice cream like crazy the last few days, and we had some sort of light whipped cream in the fridge (in a can, I usually never eat that stuff, it's left over from a wedding), so I put frozen rapsberries and "whipped cream" in a bowl and stirred it up with a little maple syrup (about a teaspoon), it's pretty fluffy pink and really tasty. Saved me from buying ice cream and pigging out.

spirochete, I'd take it off your hands. I like aquafina, because it tastes better than most other bottled water, and I don't do tap water except at one house (their water tastes good, it's from a well I think).
Weight Loss Difference in Scales Jul 28 2007

I weigh myself on about 3 different scales but I only officially weigh myself at the doctor's office about once a month. I would just pick the lowest one and if the number goes down, that's good.

ew! I don't want to eat chili manufactured in the same facility as dog food, gross. What if they mixed up the labels on the cans or something? Icky. Oh well. Thanks for posting thing

I get migraines too, everyone in my family does. They're usually not severe for me but I used to get them a lot (at least once a month, occaisionally more than that). Haven't had one in a little while though. Do you take anything for yours?
Foods How about Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice, etc. ? Jul 28 2007

I sometimes eat the lean cuisine "spa" thai chicken (with brown rice and veggies), it's yummy and it says it has no preservatives, and it's pretty good for you, except for being processed. I generally only have it when I can't make something ( when I'm at work and didn't plan ahead)
Motivation Why is size 9 a large at hollister co? Jul 28 2007
19:42 (UTC)

I try everything on because I don't trust sizes at all. On one day I bought a size 14 at one store, then went across the mall and bought size 6 capri pants. I own everything from an xxs to an xl. *shrug* I don't think the numbers actually mean much, maybe they do for men's pants, they can seem to pick out pants just looking at the label. I think I might actually wear size 9 jeans, that seems to be the mean.
Foods carb addict soloution? Jul 28 2007
18:39 (UTC)

you shouldn't completely cut any one essential food out of your diet. Carbs should make up about 50% of your daily food intake. Cutting out carbs totally would probably mean that you would do that for a while, then binge on carbs for a whole day as soon as you can't stand it. That's just continuing the cycle of bingeing and purging, which won't help. Nothing wrong with cutting out simple carbs and processed sugar though.
Foods Dip Recipes Jul 28 2007

I make dip out of fat-free sour cream all the time, it tastes great. It's just "chip dip" seasoning that I use, so I imagine other dry mixes would be fine. I hate cottage cheese so I don't use it, but I imagine it would work ok too.

hypothetically speaking - what if someone had no pain except during movements - but the same feeling of passing razors - extremely painful - but completely normal looking poo, digested food and all. And movements wouldn't be that frequent, either. ps obviously not actually hypothetical. it's me of course
Health & Support desperate for help - weird pain Jul 25 2007

hi there, thought I would post an update on my condition. So I went to the hospital the day after posting this I think (6 hours of waiting, yay). So they tested my urine and I had an infection, so they gave me antibiotics for 7 days - just finished them, and (knock on wood) I seem to be feeling better mostly. I'm just very worried because this is exactly what happened 2 years ago - I got an infection, took the pills, it went away...but then it came back. Again and again and again. I saw my doctor today and she's referred me to another urologist, but it'll probably be months before I actually see them. Oh well. Happy to be peeing nearly pain-free for now

Foods Are empty calories really bad as long as you are fine on cal-budget? Jul 25 2007
01:18 (UTC)

you would probably do yourself a favour by eating more nutrient dense foods (brown rice instead of white) but I don't think treating yourself is bad. Personally I like to have the real thing (real ice cream, whipped cream, no artificial sweeteners or anything) very occaisionally instead of eating weird diet food all the time.

not sure about the sugar but cutting in just means...cutting in. Like you put the butter/shortening into the dry ingredients and use a sharp thing to cut it up, so it mixes with the floury stuff. Makes sense to me, I'm just bad at explaining things without demonstrating

I'm lucky in that my family and boyfriend are supportive when I don't eat chips or whatever else everyone else is having. I do have a harder time at work, like when they bring us donuts and coffee and everyone digs in. Sometimes there is real pressure to not be a food prude, mainly because that makes everybody else feel guilty for eating junk, I think. Last night I just ate a clementine and some grapes instead of chips at my boyfriend's house - worked well.
