Hm...maybe it's because the 1-cup of sushi rice was logged as raw? CC says that one cup of uncooked short-grain white rice has 13.0 grams of protein.

  • I took 2 canisters of peanuts and crushed them, putting them in ziploc plastic bag, and crushing them with a dough roller.
  • I put a layer at the bottom of my pan
  • then I melted a bunch of commercial caramels, adding a bit of water and microwaving to turn into a thick liquid, stirring them in 1 minute intervals
  • I put a layer of caramel on the crushed peanuts
  • I bought a couple packages of sweet vanilla wafers, separated them in half, and then put a layer of wafers, frosting side up on top of the caramel
  • Then I repeated these two layers, making a total of 5 layers thus far.
  • Then I made some homemade caramel using dark Carol syrup, dark brown sugar, butter, and a tiny bit of baking soda and put a layer of that on
  • I melted 3 large milk chocolate bars, adding some cooking oil to make them easy to turn into a thick liquid and microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring each time and I put a layer of chocolate on
  • Then I crumbled up the remaining vanilla wafers and added that and some crushed peanuts as a layer, making 8 layers thus far.
  • Then I melted a large dark chocolate bar in the microwave, adding a bit of cooking oil and added that as a layer
  • then I added a layer of milk chocolate
  • then I topped it off with a layer of crushed peanuts--giving somewhere around 11 layers
  • I then put the cookie-bars into the refrigerator to harden for a couple of hours
  • The "insanity" part is that there really is no set formula for how many layers or what you put on as a layer--just use some combination of crushed nuts--caramel--wafers--chocolate--and whatever you can think of that might taste good.

If I ever make them again, I will melt additional caramels and make additional caramel and add a couple of layers of finely grated coconut.

That, good sir, is the most awesomely insane recipe I've seen in a very long while.

I think I'm going to tuck that away for a rainy day. :D

I've always wondered this. If you have bad acne, why don't you put makeup on to cover it up? If you look tired, why not put on some mascara to make you look more lively? I'm not talking about having a painted face. I wear very light makeup - I only occasionally put on a lot. But there are lot of women who don't put any effort AT ALL into their appearance. I've never understood that. Wouldn't you want to enhance your appearance?

Note: I don't put on makeup or straighten my hair for others; I do it because it makes me feel more confident. I do it purely for myself!!!!

Frankly...I feel the same way about makeup. :P I'm a 23 year old female. It's something I've never really understood.

I don't wear it because I don't have any desire for it whatsoever. I don't feel like it's tied to my self-confidence in any way.

Then there's the pseudo-feminist side of me that balks at seeing makeup as an "improvement" for women.

And, the most important reason - I'd rather sleep more in the mornings. :P

I dont consider my diet to be poor, nor would i reallly consider it a diet. I eat a big variety of food. Carbs take a up about half of my foos but i spend at least $30 a week atthe markets of fruit and veg and i eat most of it( except the celary, ive never managed to consume a whole bunch b4 it goes limp). I also take vitamins each day and run/walk bfs very large dog 3 times a week for about 40 mins. I work for a dr and she supports my diet :) Only negative thing on myhealth check is i have a low iron count cos i dont consume a lot of meat. But pills fix that problem.

I'm seeing a therapist right now that specializes in eating disorders, and she's helped me so much in two sessions that it blows my mind. She didn't weigh me at all. We just sat down and I started talking and talking about my past and how I was feeling these days, she offered some insight and things to think about.

I'm not sure how it would differ from seeing a ED specialist, though.

I agree with patsy - ask your Dr's office what to expect.

Hang in there. You're doing the right thing.

I'm giving this a shot right now, and I'm trying to lose myself more in making my art (writing, photography, painting). It's really good for catharsis, and I haven't created this much in years - and, like you said, it's something unique to me that I can take some pride in. In terms of identity, it's a good chance for me to reconnect with the pieces of myself that have been silenced by my ED.

Health & Support How to stop the binging?? (ED) May 25 2009

beckkkahhhx3 - I wanted to binge tonight/restrict tomorrow, and I found this article. It really helped me to stop, for tonight.

I think you need to stop restricting, so your body will stop wanting to binge. Even though you're at a healthy weight, your body will try to preserve itself if it senses restriction coming on.

Don't weigh yourself.

Try to find ways to alleviate your worries about yourself, without using food (restricting OR binging) or excessive exercise.

This is hard, but - try to stop aiming towards "ideal weight" for yourself. Especially one that you know is too low and unhealthy.

Try not to punish yourself mentally. Try to find another outlet so you can have some beautiful, new things to think about instead of calories and weight gain OR loss. For me, this has always been the hardest part.

Hang in there, kiddo. You've done so much work after you were diagnosed. I'm proud of you for gaining weight again.

Please, try to find a place in your mind where you can allow your body to be healthy and happy.

----------

Tangle, I know you're trying to help using the tough love route. I've seen your profile, and I know, at the very least, that you're trying to change your own habits right now. Good on you for that. But when you have an ED, your mind becomes your worst enemy. The mentality will never leave you alone.

Telling someone with an ED that a video will "stop" their "obsession" and then saying that they should "go eat something healthy" isn't really...helpful. Changing destructive mentalities takes time. I've had an ED for 3 years and have been battling alone it for half of that time, and I'm still not in the clear. It can't just be brushed off like that. Logically, you're right - stop when you feel full, and don't eat again until you're hungry. But an ED voice is illogical.

Anyway, /rant.

I know what you mean. I'm a woman, too, and my arms are so much weaker than my legs.

Keep at 'em, and they should get easier with time. Once doing them with your knees down gets too easy, give extending your legs a shot.

I do them with my legs extended, but I still can't get down more than a few inches when I lower myself down. Otherwise, I can't get myself back up again. :P I started off doing 5, and now I do 15-20 at a time.

On the other hand, I'm not really lifting weights. If you're looking to build your arm strength, that should certainly help.

[Also...I like your profile picture. Shinnnyyyy. :D]

Weight Loss Do not do cardio more then three times a week???? Feb 09 2009

Personally, I've found that it's easier for me to maintain a lower weight when I'm doing moderate cardio without weights - but at that point, I'm usually wasting muscle.

If you are maintaining your weight you are not "wasting muscle".  Why would you think that?

Sorry, I phrased that badly and didn't even contextualize it - by "maintaining a lower weight" I meant lower than what I "should" be. For example, I moved across the country to go to grad school this year. I was walking 8-14 km a day, but I noticed that my hunger didn't spike like it usually does after long, more physically demanding cardio workouts. I wasn't smart about food and didn't eat enough to maintain my weight, so I ended up losing some and my periods went out the window.

I ended up losing more muscle at that point than anything else, so that's what I was thinking of.

In relation to the OP, however, I was thinking that maybe that's what the trainer was referring to - less intensive cardio, reduced appetite, lower weight maintenance. Though I'm not sure I agree.

I love my brain sometimes. >_>

Weight Loss Do not do cardio more then three times a week???? Feb 09 2009

Original Post by sashi83:

My mom just joined this gym and part of the membership included one on one with a trainer. My mom works out often (been bouncing around gyms for a while, 6 months at least), eats okay (not much junk other then dark meat and potatoes) but can not lose the weight she wants. The trainer said she is working out TOO MUCH. Her theory is that when you do cardio more then three times a week it makes a person way too hungry and sabotages your efforts. I've never heard this before, and I guess I can understand it but it seems backwards from what I've always heard. Any thoughts on this?

Hm. I don't know.

The problem I run into when I do a lot of cardio (like today - 35 minutes running, 30 minutes elliptical, 45 minute walk home, some weights), I end up having massive sugar cravings at some point. If the trainer's thinking of that sort of thing, I can understand where he/she's coming from.

Personally, I've found that it's easier for me to maintain a lower weight when I'm doing moderate cardio without weights - but at that point, I'm usually wasting muscle.

Fitness Working out 3x a week and clothing seems tighter?? Feb 06 2009

Maybe you're retaining some water?

Right now, I lift weights sporadically. But when I start a set weightlifting regimen, that very week my muscles look bigger and my clothing is tighter - even though I know I can't have gained anything significant in that time. I figure that I just retain some good ole H2O.

Edit: stupid me forgot to add - if you're retaining water, it'll go away eventually. I'm not sure how long it takes, but it'll happen.
