| My hubby was a good buddy of some new friends I made in college (actually, I took that class that I met our mutual friend by mistake, but obviously I'm glad I did even though it wasn't for credit). When Ryan came home for summer break we all hung out regularly and Ryan and I hit it off pretty fast (we were engaged less than three months later). How could I resist a handsome feminist liberal sweet genius? :) | |||

| I love Blue Moon or any IPA but I have to limit myself to about a drink or two a week because I usually estimate them at about 200 a bottle, plus I'm a light weight. I totally think it's worth it though, there's nothing like a cold beer with a good meal or with some cheese. | |||

Yeah, I have a really weird thing with food. I'm a
much slower eater than my husband, plus he eats way too many sweets, so when we
get ice cream, it drives me nuts when he eats it all in a day and I only got a
spoonful or too. He eats all the tasty snack food and candy, and so I
always have this competition that I need to eat more of it before he can.
Usually I resist but it pisses me off. Luckily, he has been doing most of
the grocery shopping lately so I don't mind so much now. I have this really weird thing of jealousy over food though (which is weird cause I'm never jealous over anything else) where I can't stand it if someone else is eating something tastier than me. If I'm at a restaurant, I like to order last so if anyone orders something that sounds better then what I planned to get, I'll change my order to what they got or better. |

| Weight Loss | How many calories in birth control pills? | Aug 24 2007 23:26 (UTC) |

| first of all- abstinence is not the best birth control because yiou don't get to have sex and what mentally healthy individual wants to go through there whole life like that? (plus who said she's on it to prevent consception- what if its for the other benefits such as period regularity?) second- your current weight loss strategy is so abysmal that who knows if the pill is even a factor in this case? not only is starving youirself dangerous and painful- it doesn't even work in the long run. your body is probably getting rid of as much muscle as it can afford and holding on to as much fat as it can in an atempt to save you from eventual death. eventually you will lose fat but you will probably gain it back + some when you eat again as your body tries to store as much energy as possible when it's in survival mode. please read the suggestions on this site careully to how much you should be eating and act acordingly. it may take a little longer (whats the rush anyway?) but it works and is easy and stays off. good luck. |

| Weight Loss | When to go from a 1000 deficit to 500? | Aug 06 2007 08:21 (UTC) |
|
| I wouldn't worry about the 1200, especially if you are subtracting your calories burned during exercise from your calories consumed. When you think about it, what is the difference from calorie burned from ?exercise?, then calories burned during other activities? I don't pay any attention to it as long as I?m not feeling weak or hungry and have a cal deficit of about 900 or less. | |||

Hey everyone, I'm losing weight for myself but getting
married and seeing all those relatives i haven't seen for years is a big motivator
as well! I've lost about 20lb and my wedding is three and a half weeks
away so i can only lose 3-6lb more tops but more like 2lb probably. I'm
OK with that though cause i'm about a size 10-8, though i'll continue
afterwards until i'm happy. I got a wedding dress that laces up the back so even though i've lost a bit since i got it, it still fits. :) about the cost. were both college students and at first my parents didn't pay anything so we were like, just book a place and see what we can buy on the way and if we have just a wedding and some pies afterwards on plastic tablecloths so be it. luckily we had some relatives give early wedding gifts of $500 and my parents came up with another $500 and his parents are now paying for the food cause the dad is a pastor at a church so tradition dictates the whole church is invited so i think it will probably turn out well. i haven?t really got most things planed yet but i have a dress and a ring so i think we are set anyway. as for those the way i'm keeping costs down is having it at the park-free reception at said park- $80 for the tables reservation making pies for desert and buying meat and rolls for sandwiches that people make themselves, home made punch (having it at the park will excuses you for buying champagne cause they don't allow it), water bottles (it might get in the hundreds towards noon), whatever cheep party platters looks tasty at Costco- we estimate about $500 for the 200+ people cuttings form backyard for decorations like eucalyptus leaves and flowers put into small Styrofoam domes bought at wall mart- $2 a center piece flowers at Costco for bouquet and decorations (you can pre-order to make sure they will carry your fav. flowers)- probably $80 tops not sure about table cloths, if you buy cheap white flat bed sheets there about $10 a table which is too much for how many tables i have. I?m going plastic party ones for about $12 for all I got tons of toile for about $30 for my veil and decorations need to get some sort of hair piece to make veil with - $2 Dress I found cheep cause it was last season ? you can make your own but the materials might come out to about the same price so might as well look at some made ones - $200 An archway- $20 on sale Music, a family member is going to play the keyboard at the ceremony and a boom box will play a CD of ?romantic songs? softly in the background during the reception- $10 for CD We?ll use white tissue paper and ribbon to wrap Jordan almonds for guests- $30 Bridesmaid dresses- letting them wear whatever they want- free My fiancé is buying a suit and getting it tailored so it can be used afterwards for job interviews weddings, funerals, est.- $100 Having a friend do Hair and makeup- free Pedicure for me and bridesmaids for funzies- $80 Homemade cookies in baskets and probably something else (any ideas?) for gifts to two awesome bridesmaids - $40 Did I miss anything? It?s the first time I added it up but it looks like my wedding for 200 people will be about $1222. Wow! I didn?t realize it was so expensive! Anyway, I hope I can lose another few pounds so I can look super awesome for that expensive party. |

| Weight Loss | She was 22. Model Dies from Undereating and discussion of Anorexia | Jul 13 2007 10:20 (UTC) |
31 |
| i would say anorexia as well as depression is a disease because it is life-threatening condition that is self progressing and is often beyond the capabilities of the victim to stop or control without treatment and sometimes even then is still fatal. Also, many comments on this site and in the media seem to blame wanting to look thin as the main reason for anorexia. Not often the case because ht model was pressured by her career to lose an unhealthy amount of weight that killed her, it may not even have been anorexia (a mental disease that causes distortions of self image and the like) as much as just going about weight loss in a very wrong way. Anorexia is more about control and because our society taunts being thin as an ideal, this control issue manifests itself in men and women seeking control in their lives through one of the only things that a person can completely control by themselves, what and how much they eat. by achieving an unattainably small size, their motive is little about looking good and more trying to feel good about themselves in a very incorrect way of manipulating their bodies through starvation. | |||
| Motivation | what does 'curvy' really mean? | Jul 13 2007 09:48 (UTC) |

I agree with the "'has boobs, butt and hips' and
looks womanly" definition but would like to ge off on a tangent about the
whole thing. I know none of the posters
were using the words as insults but many do. I think that such emotional
charged descriptions of different body types such as curvy, fat, voluptuous, or
whatever should not be the way women define themselves. While I'd like to
lose weight let?s not forget that my desire is based on an arbitrary cultural
norm and that body type or current body size has no bearing on any woman?s inherent
worth. That curvy had to come about to describe someone who is overweight
because the descriptive term "fat" became a put-down is just awful in
itself. Why are the words to describe types of different people (ie, body
size, race, gender, sexual orientation, ect.) used and often accepted as
insults?
Just a random thought about all this |

| I'd join but what i consider clean eating is way to broad for most people that it really would be like cheating. (I pretty much hit for an average of 1440 kcal a day but if i go way over once in a while like 2500 or something or eat junk food the whole day i don't feel at all bad about it cause I'm still maintinaing a steady weight loss as long as most days I have a 800-200 kcal defecit. i really can't imagine what going "off of the weight loss wagon" would look like for me- i geuss it would probably be a week long binge stravaganza with tons of doughnuts...drool) | |||

are you counting calories currently? I exercised for a
while before i started to count cals and though it was good for me and helped
me raise my metabolism so i had a good start when i began counting cals i
didn't lose any weight until i watched what i ate. this is because people
tend to compensate for the energy they burn by eating more. since you
only have a little to lose, try having a cal deficient of 200-400 a day
while continuing to exercise. You will lose weight at about a pound every
two weeks and shouldn't be hungry at all as long as you pick foods that will
fill you up without too many calories. plus, because you aren?t
restricting your diet too much, it won't feel much like dieting and the time
should fly. :) |

| Weight Loss | I messed up! | Jul 10 2007 06:56 (UTC) |
|
| I don't really worry about eating above my goal as long as i don't eat more then I burn that day, i veiw those days more like a short pause in my diet and a bit of a good thing to help maintain my metabolism, i just try not to let it happen more then once a week. :) | |||

| Thanks for all the great responses! i think i have a better idea of what i can expect now. :) i guess I?ll continue to get cheep clothes or at least easily alterable ones that i can bring in a little myself like skirts and shorts (I?m not good enough to do pants yet though), I?ll probably get my nicer things tailored once my size is stable like suggested :) | |||
| Weight Loss | I could use some help... | Jul 09 2007 09:00 (UTC) |

OK, the reason you had trouble losing weight was because you
were starving your body and it was FREAKING OUT trying to keep on as much as
possible in an attempt to save you from starvation. You need to figure
out what your body burns in a day using the expenditure option under the tools
section of this site. I just did it using your stats and you burn about
2500 a day! To lose weight you need to eat 500-1000 calories less then
you burn so you should eat at the very least 1500 and even if you ate 2000
calories a day you should lose about a pound a week. In my opinion, you should eat between 1500-2000 kcal a day, continue to exercise (though not too much cause that will cause your cal deficit to be too large) immediately. You will probably gain some weight initially because your body is still going crazy from starvation (this is why starving yourself to lose weight causes yo-yo dieting which is extremely unhealthy and ultimately causes greater weight gain). Just ride it out and continue to eat 1500-2000 though, your metabolism should eventually start up again (light exercise will help this) and you will begin to lose weight once more. Also there is no rush, after you start eating again you should be happier and have much more energy which will immediately have you looking better. :) (Though based off your stats you probably look fine right now to others, though losing extra weight healthfully for your own satisfaction is a fine goal) Please don't worry too much about the speed at which you lose weight. You can only lose about 1-2 pounds a week if your doing it right but the reward is that you will be losing fat (as opposed to the muscle your probably losing right now), and with some light exercise gain muscle which will make maintaining your weight once you achieve your goal easy, healthy, and life-long. With patience and persistence you should do great. Good Luck :) |

Weather- I live in Fresno Cali and have no AC, today the high was about 103 and it is 84 right now at midnight. No rain is expected Travel- I went to London once with a friend and had a blast, Stonehenge, bath and all the museums are a must! I really want to go to Tanzania to work with the wild chimps there (while there is still some left)- that would be so cool. oh, and I?m traveling to Portland Oregon next month for my honeymoon, should be fun. Food- food is tasty. Even more so now that I am counting calories because I don't have to worry that I will gain weight as a result as long as i stay within my target. :) Movies- best film of last year- Children of Men, no mainstream movies of note so far this year so I'm catching up on some classics- just watched 'I spit on your Grave'; awesome though graphic and disturbing. Books- Just read Rant by Chuck Palahniuk, currently reading The Third Chimpanzee (which contains a particularly poignant chapter on genocide) by Jared Diamond, and I'm planning to read Full Frontal Feminism next. Age limit? I'm 22, sorry. |

| Yea! I'm getting my first apartment soon too! I'm a college student who works part-time for min. wage and my fiance is working a not much better job until he can get into grad school so we are freakin about the cost too. we will prob get some stuf we need off our registry but mostly we are looking at grage sales and asking for hand downs from friends and relatives. (we figure we can replace the old furniture one at a time as we can afford it later) we wrote a budget and if we buy cheep groceries- i'm geussing we will need about $250 a month for that? and never eat out, we should have about $10 each for spending cash at the end of the month (so we can get a burger if we want). Even though it is going to be expensive, i'm so excited! and it will be very nice not to live w/ my parents anymore seeing as i am 22 and a little old to be living with them. | |||

| Hmm, pretty much what i expected excepot the metabolism drop. anyway, it hought it would be interesting cause i think everyone knows someone who eats all junk but is super thin. I tried but failed to convience one of these friends that even though he was thin, he could still get diabetes from overworking his system with sugar. | |||
| Foods | finally getting to lower carbs | Jul 04 2007 10:24 (UTC) |

| I totally agree. Fat tends to stay at the belly in my family- if any of us are over five pounds, we have a big pudgy fat lump on our stomachs and that really is one of the worse places health-wise for fat to go. But exercise would increase your metabolism and probably allow you to burn fat easier while eating more food and feeling better plus probably looking better. Anyway, thats my plan :) | |||
