Hi everyone,

It was a good week until today.  It was my godmother's birthday and she picked Red Lobster as her restaurant of choice. (Seafood - my weakness)  I had oatmeal in the morning and nothing else til I lost my mind sitting at that restaurant.  I know I went over my allowance for the day -- probably even my maintenance.

The silver lining in this is that, while I was stuffing my face, I was actually paying attention to my body and when I felt full I stopped eating, where before I might have eaten everything on the plate.

Oh well back to work tomorrow --- and at least there are no more birthdays in my family until November. :-)

New diet plan for men :-)

Weight Loss Program

A fellow was reading the paper one day lamenting the fact that his doctor has ordered him to lose 75 pounds. Next thing he sees is an advertisement for a guaranteed weight loss program. He's skeptical, but says to himself, "Let's see what they can do."

He calls them on the phone and subscribes to the 3 day, 10 LB weight loss program. The next day there comes a knock at his door, and when he answers, there stands before him a voluptuous, athletic 19 year old babe dressed in nothing but a pair of Nikes and a sign hanging around her neck. She introduces herself as a representative of the weight loss company. The sign reads, "If you can catch me, you can have me."

Without a second thought he takes off after her. A few miles later, huffing and puffing, he finally catches her and has his way with her. After they are through he kisses the girl one last time and thinks to himself with a nod, "I like the way this company does business." For the next two days, the same girl shows up and the same thing happens each time. On the fourth day, he weighs himself and, sure enough, he lost 10 pounds.

Deciding that he likes his somewhat more slender physique, not to mention the method of treatment, he calls the company back and subscribes to their 5 day, 20 LB weight loss program. He thinks that losing 20 pounds in only 5 days seems like a lot, but he is intrigued by what their workout schedule might be like this time. As expected, the next day there comes a knock at his door. When he answers it there stands a 22 year old knockout dressed in nothing but a pair of Reeboks and a sign hanging around her neck. She is simply stunning, the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. She introduces herself as a representative of the weight loss company. The sign reads, "If you can catch me, you can have me."

He's out the door like a shot. This gal is in excellent shape and it takes a while to catch her. But when he does, it is worth every cramp and wheeze. She is wonderful, the best he has ever had. For the next four days, the same girl shows up and the same thing happens each time, much to his delight. On the sixth day, he weighs himself and, unbelievably, he has lost another 20 pounds. I love this company, he thinks to himself, "I never knew losing weight could be so easy and so much fun."

Feeling much better about himself, he decides to go for broke and subscribe to the company's 7 day, 50 pound weight loss program. "Are you sure, sir?" Asks the representative on the phone. "This is our most vigorous program." "Absolutely," he replies, "I love your program. Haven't felt this good in years!"

The next day there comes a knock at his door and he enthusiastically answers it. There stands before him a 200 pound perfect specimen of a man dressed in nothing but racing spikes and a sign around his neck. He introduces himself as a representative of the weight loss company. The sign reads, "If I can catch you, I can have you."

There's always a catch, isn't there?

Can I join? This group seems like a lot of fun.

Here are my stats:

  1. starting weight:  283 (9/8)
  2. Highest weight ever:  310
  3. Mini goals:  Next goal weight is 255 (to drop the "morbidly" from in front of the "obese"
  4. Ultimate goal weight: 159 - 129 (whatever "healthy is")
  5. Plan:  Exercise/stay active (I've just joined the Y to take water aerobics and I went 3 times this week) ; cooking my own food instead of eating out; keep drinking enough water (haven't had anything else since May and that's done wonders)

Hey everybody,   Thanks for the support and encouragement in a weak moment.  That is really the beauty of this website, where before I would think I was totally alone.

I do like the idea of buying something in my new size and giving away something in  my old size.  That would probably help me be more comfortable with the change.

Thanks again to everybody for some good ideas and great advice.

Yeah vklamorick, sort of.  That's  kinda what is going through my head, like -- I'm just gonna be that size again, so what's the use?

It's like I'm fighting myself -- one side wanting and knowing I have to change and the other saying it's not possible so why try -- even though I've had some success, so far.

Right now the good side is winning, I just want it to stay that way

Even before I stopped drinking soda, I never drank Coke or the other caffeinated stuff. Then somebody sent this to me and showed me I can be right in my thinking at least some of the time.

Warning: If you love Coke, I wouldn't read this.

I've cut out some things, but I think what I've done more is improve the quality (and quantity) of things I put in my mouth.

So far, I've cut out all red meat and pork, fast food, soda and fruit juices, ice cream, TV dinners.

I still eat pasta, but it's Barilla Plus wheat.  I eat brown ricce and whole grain breads in place of the white stuff.  Instead of two pepperoni slices of pizza for lunch, I'll get one salad slice.  If I go to Subway (which I love) I won't add the cheese or the fattening condiments.  I cook almost all my food and bring it to work with me -- when before I'd just go buy something quick.

I never had a big sweet tooth, but if the urge comes, I'll pick up an apple now before a piece of candy or ice cream).

The biggest change I've made is drinking a gallon of water each day. I find it makes me fuller faster and I'm not as hungry between meals.

The only thing I've craved since I started, was a beef hotdog, and that was this past weekend when my family had every hotdog they could buy on the grill.

So far, 23 pounds, so good.

  • Current Weight: 282
  • Total Weight loss this week. ???
  • Total Weight Loss this month: 23!!!
Quick Explanation -- Using the electronic scale at my jobs office, i thought i had lost 6 lbs, but when i got on the doctors scale it read 282!! I love faulty scales (when it's in my favor, of course).  I have no idea how much i've lost each week, but I was for sure at 305 at the beginning of the month.
Weight Loss Any 18-25 year olds, over 200lbs? May 21 2007

Good news here!!!

I usually weigh myself on the little square scale in my job's office bathroom.  Since I've been counting my calories (about 3 and half weeks) it says I have lost 6 pounds.  Today was the first day it read under 300 and I was extremely excited.

BUT...

After work I went to the  nurse's office (I work at an elementary school) and got on the balance scale like they have in doctor's offices and it read 282!!!! I was shocked, thrilled, in disbelief, etc...  I got off and did it again to make sure I was doing it right.  I knew when I started that it would take long for me to lose the weight (being that it took me 20+ years to gain) and I was truly happy with the 6, but this takes the cake (doesn't eat it though lol)!!!  It means since I got my last official weight at the doctor on  April 26, I've lost 23 lbs.  It just proves even more to me that I made a right choice changing my eating and excercise habits.

Sorry for the long post, but I had to tell people that would understand.  I told my aunt and she was like, "good for you, you need to lose it" in the tone that says "so what".

Hi,

I just made it! I'm 25 years old and over 200. (Actually, the last time I checked I was over 300, but I don't weigh in again until tomorrow)  I've been overweight my entire life and what really scared me was one of those infomercials in the middle of the night.  The guy was talking about diabetes and its effects.  The next day my doctor told me I should start thinking about surgery.  I think the combination first made depressed (being that I went from the doctor's office and ate a bunch of junk), but then I figured I wanted to try one more time on my own without surgery.  I am glad I found this place.  Since the middle of April, I have become very aware of everything I buy and everything I put in my mouth.

I know how hard it is and I wish everybody here (including me) nothing but success.
