i agree w/ boiling it first. for me it makes it taste better. but i could eat it either way. its good crumbled and used as a ground meat substiute. i've also used it in stir fries, and my meat eating BF loved it.

if you like it spicy: http://www.theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/index .php?RecipeID=2060

Vegetarian Veggie burger?!?! Jun 29 2009

the sunshine brand veggie burgers are amazing. soooo good. more expensive than the boca or morningstar brand, but taste better in my opinion.

also, try making your own. its very easy and you can pick and chose the ingredients to suit your taste. they will probably be much healthier than the frozen kind, too

i used to make a bean burger using red kidney beans, bread crumbs, ketchup, mustard, and whatever spices i felt like at the time. pan fry it and you are ready to go!

i like having "mexican potaotes" I baked it (or microwave if i am feeling lazy), cut it open, and add black beans, sauted peppers and onions and salsa. Also tastes great with sweet potatoes.

any little bit of effort helps! just cutting down on animal products with helps. (almond breeze is delicious!)

if being a full vegan will bring back ED tendencies, then just stick with what you are doing!

good luck!

Vegetarian tofu, seitan Mar 21 2009
20:10 (UTC)

tofu is great marinated and baked or sauted. i also use it in tofu scrambles... saute up veggies such as mushrooms, onions and spinach them crumble the tofu in the pan and cook until the tofu is browned. add any spices you like. I also mash it up with some soy mayo and mustard and spices and use it instead of egg salad.

Seitan is wheat gluten and has a texture more consistant w/ meat. i love it in stir fries. recently i used it with sauted mushrooms onions and peppers as a "steak and cheese". delish

Vegetarian Why the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle? Mar 20 2009
14:38 (UTC)
21

a vegan lifestyle is much better for the environment as well. i forget the exact numbers, but the amount of food/energy that goes into producing 1 lb of meat is soooo much greater than 1 lb of wheat. the main reason for deforestation is for cattle grazing. The majority of the corn grown is used as livestock feed, not for human consumption.

There is also less sat. fat, and less cholesterol(none for the vegans) in a veggo diet.

I think all the other reasons have been stated already lol

you could also use it as a motivation at the gym. say if you know you are going out that night, spend an extra 15 minutes on the tredmil and bam! thats another drink!

stick with light beer if possible, or ask the bartender to make a mixed drink w/ diet soda. stay away from long island iced teas and the likes.... tasty, but packed w/ calories.

also, if you like dancing, def go to a club or bar w/ live band. dance away those drinks!

Maintaining Defining the "Binge" Mar 08 2009
17:43 (UTC)

a binge can mean different things to different people. Most people, eating everything in the house is considered a binge. To someone who is anorexic, maybe eating an extra bowl of cereal IS a binge to them. The same guilty feelings and shame occur, just with alot less food.

O'Soy yogurt has milk derivatives in it i believe. if you look at the ingredients it says includes soy and milk.... sucks i know.

I also just found out that subways honey mustard has eggs in it. some of their condiments arent vegan friendly. they have a list and stuff online, so atleast they make it available for us to look at

Weight Loss body image vs poor eating choices Feb 24 2009

i know exactly what you are talking about. Sometimes you just have to stop, take a deep breathe, and move on. It is extremely hard to look at myself in the mirror and smile if i eat alot that day. But your logic is right, there is no way your body changed that drastically in the course of a day.

Just breathe :)

Vegetarian Why is it so hard to go vegetarian? Dec 14 2008
16:38 (UTC)

what helped me when i first converted was just taking away one type of meat at a time. i stopped eating red meat, then stopped eating chicken and eventually cut out fish as well. it allowed me to learn new things to eat so i didnt just eat pasta and salad every day :)

good luck

Fitness exercising before or after? May 20 2008
00:31 (UTC)

it depends on how i feel when i wake up. if i am absolutely STARVING ill eat a banana immediately when i wake up, then get dressed, brush my teeth and go. then when i get back i shower and have a real breakfast. if im not starving i don't eat.

but i always try to drink atleast 16 ounces of water before im out the door. i find if i don't drink enough water before im worse off then not eating before.

as others have said, do what works best

Vegetarian What do vegetarians eat? May 20 2008
00:25 (UTC)
12

breakfast- bran cereal, kashi cereal, oatmeal w/ apples and cinnamon, this morning i had 1/2 a banana nut muffin----one of those plus some kind of fruit

lunch- left over eggplant parm w/o the cheese and wild rice was today, but normally a have a HUGE salad, usually spinach or spring mix lettuce, lots of veggies, some kind of fruit (strawberries are my fav) and some type of nut(sunflower seeds, slivered almonds, walnuts...)

dinner-stir fry tonight! tons of veggies, tofu and chow mein noodles. i always get creative with dinner, so bean burritos, tempeh, another salad, pasta, casserole.....yum
