Original Post by beate4: I know, right? But how great is it that you HAVE to eat more to lose weight? What a concept! It scared me when I first upped my cals because there was a tiny gain (my body was so thrilled it was getting food that it wanted to hang on to it for dear life), but then it all went away. Nuts are great too. I read an article recently and the best ones are pistachios, walnuts and almonds. They all help lower cholesterol and walnuts apparently have anti-inflamatory properties. | Calorie Count | Burn meter? | Jul 23 2008 22:24 (UTC) |

Hi Beate4 it seems to me you are already making quite a deficit. You should have a deficit of between 500-1000 calories and yours, as it is now is 840. That's without logging your workouts. Is there a reason you don't log them? I used the burn meter tool with your info and it said you burn about 2600 in a typical day. I'm thinking hiking up your daily intake wouldn't hurt a bit. Sometimes eating not enough is as hurtful to weight loss as is eating too much. When I started, I aimed for the highest deficit I could possibly muster. At one point, my weight loss stagnated and it's only once I upped my intake that I started losing weight again consistently. I'm 31, 136 lbs, 5'3" and have a high activity level. I eat around 1900 cals a day, less on days I don't work out and I'm still losing pretty consistently. I'm not an expert, though. Still, I hope this helps you and if not, you can ask one of the experts on this site. Peace |

| Weight Loss | Has anyone tried "IntraMax"? | Apr 15 2008 20:31 (UTC) |

I've never heard of IntraMax, but it sounds a lot like another "miracle diet". I would think it's water weight that your husband is shedding. Is there a diet to follow with that program or is it just a matter of taking the product itself? Either way, I would wait to see if the weightloss persists, plateaus or stops in the long run. That is the true test of any diet, really...but it's always very tempting to believe in that easy fix, the proverbial magic pill. I've been on CC for some time now and even though it works well enough, my ears are still pricked when the words "lose weight fast!" are uttered near me. Go with your better judgement, I say and do what feels right for you. |

| Maintaining | Burn Meter at 1400 calories | Mar 20 2008 19:26 (UTC) |

I had the same problem initially. I also listed my activity level at sedentary because of my job (I sit all day), but working out three time a week is at least light activity, if not moderate (depending on the intensity of your worout), in my book. Maybe lower your intake on days you don't work out and eat more calories the days that you do. Hope this helps. KC |

| Weight Loss | Question about expanditure/calorie intake | Jun 21 2007 19:04 (UTC) |

| I checked out some of the other BMRs online and I think I am more confused than ever. Three of them put my DER (daily energy requirement - BMR + Active Metabolic Rate) at around 3900!! which, I don't even know how to tell you how absurd that is. Then, two other sites put my DER at 2000 which means I would need to take my intake down to around 1500 which is what I started with when I joined Calorie-Count and didn't work. How fun is this? :) All this brain activity must have burned at least an extra 100 calories, right? Maybe there is another explanation for the shift in weight. I tend to retain water sometimes, usually around pms (which is nowhere near now, hence I didn't think of it before) or I don't know...2 aliens weighing a pound each have inavaded my body in an attempt to use me to take over the world! (I made a funny there, I'm not actually insane) I think I'll just ask a doctor when I can manage to get an appointment. Thanks for trying to help though and I will take that advice about varying my workouts. |
