Fitness Gym pet peeves.... Mar 12 2008

ooh, I have a few.

I am with you all on the locker room nakedness. The regular changing is fine, but one day I wanted to sit in the sauna for a few minutes after my workout this lady was laying down face up completely naked in the sauna... isn't like this is some huge room, only about 6 people or so would fit comfortably anyway. yeah, skipped the sauna that day...

people who attend classes and then complain, out loud, about them being too hard. I don't know about most people, but I attend the hardest session of the core class (wednesdays) because it's just that, its the hardest session. The instructor says right at the beginning of the class, this is the most difficult session of the week, fridays are for beginners yet these ladies continue to come to the hard class and moan and complain during every exercise. COME ON! Work out or get out!

whew, that felt good! Thanks for letting me vent.

ooh, I also hate that my gym always smells like freshly baked cookies when I'm leaving. I understand its a Y and caters to children too but seriously, that is just mean!

I think I fall into this category and would love to join.

26 yrs.  5'6" 143 lbs   small frame

Goal Weight: 125-130

I have lost about 30 lbs over the last 8 months and would love to be down to that goal weight waaay before summer. I want to tone up my upper body and slim down the lower part.

I know there is no way to target where your body looses weight, but I think at this stage in our weight loss everyone has something they are working on extra hard. I would love to see what everyone is working on and how you are doing it!

My sister has a bunch of jeans that fit her when she was a bit bigger (size 6... I know, she was huge...Wink) I just bought my first pair of 8's this weekend. I can't wait to fit into all of those jeans she has. There are so many pairs. And of course I want to rock a super cute bikini at beach vacation this year! Outer Banks...look out!

I live in Baltimore and I love it here!

I have lived here for a little more than two years and in that time I have come to absolutely adore charm city. there are a ton of music venues for every style of music. Lots of creative people expressing themselves in this city and a lot of individually owned stores and restaurants to get out of the habit of chain super stores and places to eat.

As for the crime, its no worse than any other city and you can certainly do a little research and live in a great area (I live in Hampden and am looking to buy here I love it so much). Most of the crime, in my opinion, happens in certain parts of the city. There are plenty of places to live that are not bad. Have a little common sense and you will be just fine. A lot of the neighborhoods are on the upside of things. Businesses are moving in, homes are being remodeled but most still maintain that vintage charm.

I also lived in No. Va for about 6 years. Not that I didn't enjoy the time I lived there but traffic is horrible! and as for getting around without a car, yeah, only if you live right near the metro, I lived in Old Town Alexandria for about 2 of those years and I had to have a car, couldn't even get to Target without it because of the traffic (don't want to get hit).  City driving is better than trying to get around out there in No. VA. Nice neighborhoods, but still very expensive. and don't even think of living outside of the beltway and being able to get around stress-free.

I could go on and on, but I won't.

I just want to add that you said you were about to start your time of the month. For me, I am always a few lbs higher in the days leading up to it, then as soon as I start I can weigh in that day and it has gone down. Just something you should look out for. You may find that you actually have lost and just don't see it yet.

and all of that other stuff too, but no sense repeating all of the great info you have already gotten.

Just relax. As you said, you have lost 65 lbs. That is a great accomplishment. And I am sure you thought you were looking and feeling great before you realized you were an inch shorter

by the way, the same thing happened to me, I thought I was 5'7" but when I went for my yearly, turns out I am only 5'6" it does put me further away from my ultimate goal but it doesn't make what I have already done any less fantastic

Feel good about yourself!!!

If anyone is around the Chicago area there is a place similar to that called the Flat Top Grill. When I lived in Arlington, VA there was one, but it has since closed because "it was the only one in the area, and just a pain to manage since the rest were in IL"

Its a great place and they even had the nutrition value of the sauces written on a chalk board behind the "salad bar" Too bad I didn't care about that stuff back then. Probably would have been a lot healthier. oh well, one day I will make it out to Chicago and I will get to go again, ooh, didn't help that it was unlimited times too...that will getcha every time!

I go to the YMCA so they are always catering to young children. They make Otis Spunkmeyer cookies every day.... its horrible. I smell them in the oven on my way in. I see kids eating them on the way out..the only thing that saves me is that there is usually a line of middle school kids waiting for them...talk about torture!

Try bringing a lemon to work with you and adding a squeeze of lemon to your plain water in between the tea. Then its not plain water, but its not the tea either. Worth a try, then you can alter the amount of lemon if you want to try to get down to being able to drink a lot of plain water.

When I felt like my weight loss had stopped I switched my routine entirely. I went from 30 minutes or more cardio (mostly elliptical) and 30 minutes at least of weightlifting to a 45 minute class. I saw results really quickly, just the variation of exercise. Now I do the class 2 days a week and the other workout 2 days and things are going great. I also switched from only using the elliptical to running on the tredmill or even walking on an incline sometimes, just to keep it fresh.

Don't get discouraged, just mix it up a bit!

I can wear something tiny for my boyfriend and not feel embarrassed.

My dad mistook me for my younger sister, who's a model (he was on pain meds and half asleep but it still counts)

mmm... I love the Flat Top Grill. Its an all you can eat stir fry bar, you can make your stir fry with whatever you want in it, they cook it for you and bring it to the table and you can go up as many times as you'd like. the best part is that its all fresh veggies and meats and they do list the nutrition info for their many many sauces. There used to be on in Northern VA when I lived there but now they are only in the Illinois area. That sucks for me, but great for those who live near one....

I am absolutely horrible. Started a new job at the end of June and for some strange reason this office has a scale in two of the four bathrooms. I find myself weighing every time i use the bathroom (which is a lot because of all of the water I am drinking) and I usually wait so I can use the same bathroom and scale each time. I think its only because I am curious but I really need to stop, its becoming an obsession!

I'm a big fan of a nice cold ginger ale from a can, so its extra bubbly and some Lipton noodle soup when I have an upset stomach, it almost always works. Usually start with the ginger ale, when I am feeling a little better add in the soup and if I actually start to feel hungry some saltine crackers are great. Simple, but it always works for me.

my fault, I put the wrong number of calories. Hula Hooping with an unweighted hoop is around 450 cals/hour but if your hoop is weighted (we put BB's in ours) it will, of course, be more! you make me want to get mine out when I get home!

Happy Hooping!

I dont know how many calories are burned but I also made some hula hoops, my boyfriend and I gave them as Christmas gifts. they are so much fun, and a great way to flatten that belly.

I just found this site that claims a burn of 238 cals/hour. I have no idea how accurate this is but its a start.

Check it out at http://www.foodanddiet.com/NewFiles/caloriebu rnchart.html

I want to join too. I just started CC last friday and have done alright since then. My big goal is 27lbs but apparently that isnt possible until August, not in time for swim suites. so, my short term goal is 10 lbs by Bonnaroo (a fabulous music festival in TN) on June 13th. Another 10 by beach week at the end of July and the rest after that.

Here's my info

5'7"    161lbs (started at 162 last week...woo hoo!)

Short term weight goal: 150 by June 13

Long term goal: 135 by August

my major downfalls: my boyfriend; loves to eat and never gains weight, he's also a great cook

I'm looking forward to keeping up with how everyone is doing. Good luck!
Motivation How to Resist!? May 10 2007
16:27 (UTC)
I just started this calorie counting thing about a week ago. I have done alright, weekends are hard, but at work during the week I am awesome. Healthy breakfast on the way to work, Lean Cuizine for lunch and a snack before I go home to keep me from grubbing when I get there. My huge problem is my boyfriend. He has no problems with food or his weight and loves to cook so he is always making things that are not so great. I have gotten him out of his habit of making so much fried food, but we always end up eating late, even if I make us something healthy.

ex: last night he made pizza at 11pm (he makes the best pizzas so its really hard to resist, which I didnt)

How do I avoid this? We really dont see eachother very much during the week except for having dinner.

When I am at work and feel like I need to move or even when I am starting to get a little cold I like to do dips on my chair or push-ups on my desk

for the dips: put your hands on the edge of your chair and move yourself in front of the chair so your butt is off. then just dip down and back up..its great for the backs of the arms

The push ups: kind of like regular ones but leaning on the desk, put your hands on the edge of your desk in a push up position with your feet shoulder width apart so you are leaning on your hands at an angle and just do your pushup from there.

Check out this web page, this is where I got my ideas from
