Original Post by ksperls:

I find the hostility of these postings to be shocking.  Muktiray, good for you for sharing.  This is intended to be short-term diet in order to jump-start your fat burning metabolism and cleanse your system.  It works!  You get all of the nutrients your body needs, you can eat all you want, you drink lots of water and it works to cleanse your colon and allow your liver and kidneys to rid your body of toxins.  Of course on a daily basis we should all use common sense in our eating choices and this is not meant to be a long-term eating plan.  There is nothing wrong with a cleanse and this one is not nearly as radical as what else is out there (try 21 days of lemonade, maple syrup and cayenne pepper!  now that's silly).  In fact, it is very doable and is designed specifically to be giving your body specific nutrients in an intentional, methodical series.  People should be more thoughtful before they post such wildly hostile remarks.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this! I know this is an old thread...but wow people. Come on. Is it really going to hurt you or anyone else to say great, good for you! I'm glad you're trying something new for yourself. Try it and if it works it works, and if it doesn't you live and learn. That's the best way afterall.

I feel like in "the real world" if people at work or at the store etc. came up to you and started talking to you about these "fad" diets and how they're going to try this or that or whatever and are really excited about it, most of you would NEVER speak to them the way you speak to some of the posters on here. Just come on. Why discourage people so much? Just get off your high horse. It's not like they're saying omg I figured out a new way to lose weight! Snorting coke for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Go me!

One year for Christmas I got a card from my brother and his wife that said a heifer was purchased in my name, and that was my Christmas present from them. :-s I was a bit confused, and wondering where my actual gift was! ;-) Haha maybe I'm a bit ungrateful, but I like the idea of purchasing a gift for someone where some of the proceeds go to help someone else. Its a win win situation in my book.

Will people stop responding to this thread as though the OP is perfectly normal?  They have some seriously disordered eating issues.... They are underweight and starving themselves.  The last thing they should be doing is trying to suppress their natural hunger pangs.

Even if she's struggling with her own health issues, it still doesn't mean she should be shoveling whatever she wants in her face because she's hungry. That's not healthy either. I think there were some good suggestions on how she can eat alternatives to super unhealthy things.

He is not related to you by blood. He is related by blood to your aunt who is related to you only through marriage and therefore you share no DNA or blood (at least as you outlined it here). If your uncle had married someone else, than there would be no connection at all - that is how I keep it straight.

But do I have to acknowledge him by anything other than "hey you!" or "this guy" hmm? :-p

I heard the best way you can tell if you have the flu is if its completely sudden, like you feel like you've just been hit by a semi. And high fever, which is rare with a cold.

By the way, has anyone heard of this swine flu "parties" people are having? You know the idea that some parents have that when a child has chicken pox they get all their kids together so they can all share the germs and get the pox together and get it over with? Yeah well apparently people are doing that with the swine flu too. :-s Crazy.

If I want something REALLY bad and I really shouldn't be indulging too much...then I just take a bite or two of whatever it is I want and then get a water bottle and head upstairs away from whatever is tempting me. Works for me! :-)

I had brussel sprouts for like the second time ever in my life tonight, and found out they were pretty darn awful. First bite wasn't so bad--I sprayed it with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray--and it sort of reminded of old brocolli stems? And then I took a big bite and it made me gag horribly. :-s I made my dad try them too, and he spit it out. Strangly enough my mom eats them right up! Gross. :-s They taste like an old dirty sponge!

I don't know if this is really considered "cleansing" but whenever I feel like I need to uh hem clean out my system, I wake up in the morning and on an empty stomach drink a big tall glass of juice with mostly water added, and that flushes me right out. Now if I REALLY want to clear out my insides, I do that a couple of more times during the day and not eat anything that day. Flushes everything right out.

I seriously love all food, well except maybe okra and cucumbers. I wanna like cucumbers, but they taste too much like grass to me. :-( But its okay, when me and my boyfriend eat salads we trade our veggies we don't like. Cucumbers go to him, and his tomatoes go to me! Yum! :-)

Oh, and as much as I love Kiwis, apparently they don't love me anymore. :-( Sadness. I just ate one the other day and my mouth started burning and then eventually went numb. It was a brand new thing too, as I used to eat kiwis all the time as a kid. It was a sad day for me.

Oh, and can I add that I am NOT a fan of tofu no matter how much I try? Another thing I WISHED I liked because hey, its a good idea. I like soybeans, I like fake meat products that TASTE like meat, heck I think I even like soymilk to a certain point! But tofu tastes like slimy rubber to me. It reminds me of the gelatin that pools up on fatty meat when it cools down. Go figure.Undecided

Which moisturizer would be best for oily super acne prone skin that can't handle acne medicine (it gets itchy and irritated)?

Even though I use a facial moisturizer that is meant for sensitive skin, my skin around my jawline and chin always get itchy and irritated still. Sucks. :-( But I use Aveeno 1% Hydrocortisone Anti-itch cream and that helps the itching and irritation go away pretty quickly.

I've been using moisturizer since I was about 14 or 15--or since I really started using make up. :-s I hope I can counteract that a bit. I'm 23 now and people say I look like I'm still in high school. Don't know if that's a good thing or not yet! ;-) I do notice that people my age are actually starting to get wrinkles around their eyes more often than not, and that kind of freaks me out a bit. Thankfully no wrinkles for me yet!

I use Aveeno Ultra Calming Daily Moisterizer with SPF 15, and then Bare Minerals as my make up. Both make my face really smooth and flawless. :-) I think everyone should use moisturizer just because it makes your face so nice and soft and smooth! My boyfriend loves it.

Oh, and does anyone have any good recommendations for firming eye cream that works and ISN'T like $20 for a small tube? I'd love to know so I can get started on that as well!

Foods Cottage Cheese: making it more palatable? Nov 06 2009

With my fat-free cottage cheese, I drain out a lot of the water everytime I open it up. I like it mixed with pineapple chunks and a little of its juice, cherry tomatoes with a little salt and pepper and some olive oil, and then with mashed up canned apricots with cinnamon. Very tasty. :-)

As a kid my mom used to mix up full fat cottage cheese and sour cream and we used it as dip with homemade french fries. It's still delicious today with everything reduced to low-fat or fat free, and with baked french fries or potatoes!

Sandwiches for lunch are always great

Instant rice or the microwaveable single serving bowls. Paired with steamable veggies and rotisserie chicken from the deli if you eat meat

Purchase a rotisserie chicken because its already cooked. Use it for salads, sandwiches, pastas or soups. Add bbq sauce or dressing to switch it up.

You can make pasta and buy jarred sauce...there's tortellini, ravioli, and fettucine buitoni brand that are refrigerated and supert fast to make. If you get an assortment of sauces like alfredo, marinara, and pesto and add in different things like broccoli, peas, corn, or carrots along with chicken or tofu or something then you're really just heating and not "cooking"

You can always open a can of beans and top em with cheese and have a salad with it

You can have a baked potato with low fat cheese, veggies, and some lean protein.

How about a pita stuffed with veggies and hummus

You can make couscous or quinoa and add in some frozen mixed veggies and cook it in broth. Add in either a can of tuna or chicken for a complete meal.

Hope these ideas helped :)

Mmmm tasty ideas! :-D

Well it sometimes feels like it at least. :-p And throughout the day when I touch pens or other objects or when I just can't wash my hands I use a hand sanitizer to help a bit. I still get constantly sick though, oh well!

Foods Favorite Protein Powder? Oct 25 2009

Original Post by zebulancherry:

Okay, so I know from experience that there are a lot of protein powders out there that pretty much taste like chalk, and that those that don't are typically WAY too sweet from the addition of sugar substitutes and whatnot.

I had tried...

  • Jay Robb whey - whey too sweet and the stevia left a strong aftertaste.
  • Perfect Protein whey - wierd artifical taste and almost flakey texture.
  • GeniSoy soy protein - really, really chalky and tasted like dust.
  • Biochem whey - good, but kinda off-tasting. Liked that there were no added sugars though.
  • NutriBiotic brown rice protein - again, really chalky and gross looking. I don't know if that's just how most non-whey powders are, but it was nasty.
  • Living Harvest hemp protein - well, it was green for one thing. Hahah. It had a very strong flavor and didn't really mix well into anything. The texture was very coarse and almost dirt-like.

I finally found a brand that I like in almost all areas considered, and that would be Solgar's Whey To Go vanilla bean whey protein. It tastes really good, has no sugars or sugar substitutes (or stevia), and it has only 100 calories and 24 grams of protein per 30g.

What brand do you guys like?

My favorite too. :-) I've turned quite a few people on to it as well! Very tasty and natural tasting as well.

If you're looking for a natural peanut butter brand you can store in the fridge and DOES NOT become all stiff and dry, I'd suggest using the Trader Joe's brand. It's still just as creamy as it would be if you left it out but without worrying about it getting rancid, (this has happened to me before so it does indeed happen!). Mmm now I want some, darn! :-p

Excuses excuses. There's plenty of young people out there and they don't "have" to drink just because they're 22 or however old you are. If you are REALLY concerned about losing weight and having a healthy lifestyle (which you don't seem like you are) then you should cut back on the drinking (5 drinks a night 2x a week IS a lot hello? You yourself even called it BINGE DRINKING. Not healthy.) and actually EAT healthy clean foods, and enough of them because you're acting like an unintelligent young person, who is giving all of us young people a bad name. So stop please.

Bottom line, EAT REAL FOOD and limit the drinking to special occassions! Done and done.
