Don't let doctors or counselors turn you away or diminish your need for help! Keep asking and pushing until someone listens to you. You know yourself best and if you are in a place where you are asking for help, they should listen. Keep trying until someone does. |

You aren't eating ANY protein until lunch. I would be hungry too. Try adding protein to your breakfast - might be all you need. I personally cannot eat cereal for breakfast or it does make me hungry all day. Lots of carbs will spike your blood sugar leading to hunger, leading to over eating. Your coffee probably didn't fill you up, it's just the caffeine suppresed your appetite. Not so healthy... |

Your doctor is there is take care of your health. Being skinny is not the same as being healthy. As long as your goal is still in a healthy range, that is ok, but your doctor is probably right that you don't need to lose that much to be healthy. It isn't necessary, but it isn't necessarily bag either. Make sure you know your BMI and what healthy really is. |

| Weight Loss | Thinking of lowering my calories | Oct 17 2008 00:01 (UTC) |

Ah... weight training. I've toyed with this off and on at different times. I HATE gyms and I'm a bit afraid of free weights because I feel that the potential to hurt myself is pretty high. My lower body should be pretty good - all my walking is outdoor and I deliberately add hills and stairs and my aerobics is actually NIA which has some body resistance strength training included, but I'm sure my upper body could use some work. That being said, I've heard that the amount of extra calories burned from muscles at rest isn't really that much and for women to build muscle is difficult without extreme commitment. It never sounded like enough payout to matter much - but maybe I'm just in denial. I'm 33 - so good guess on the age. I seem to gain a bit at 2000, so I'm not sure thats accurate for me. And actually, most of my slow down is because I've let myself have some free days already and am ready to get back on track. I'm hoping to get my momentum back and really start losing again - thus the greater deficit? Any other ideas? |

| Weight Loss | On a quest for the illusive gap between the thighs - (closed) | Oct 14 2008 18:48 (UTC) |

Sorry.. but this doesn't seem to fit in the parameters of a healthy weight loss plan. Striving for something as superficial and meaningless as a gap between your thighs is pretty scary. Usually I don't respond to these things, but really... I hope healthier goals are ahead for all of you, and wish you the best on your health and happiness. |

It doesn't have to be complicated to be good. I eat about the same except I usually have a small desert in the evening and do a Cliff bar in the morning instead of cereal. (Cereal makes me hungry all day) Your analysis should look pretty good. If not, adjust the proportions of the different foods - but the foods themselves look great! |

I honestly can't believe that McCain would put his personal victory above the stability and secruity of this country should he die. He's just a tad older than dirt, if we end up with her - we are all in trouble regardless of party and views. |

I always have fluctuations/gain when it's hot! For me I know this is true. When the weather is cooler, my weight is much more predictable. If I workout in the heat, I always weigh more the next day. |

I actually posted this about a year ago: http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/542 72.html The good news? It was temporary. The hair is definitely growing back. I believe it was the hormonal shifts that happen with weight loss, not nutrition problems, but that was just my situation. I saw my doctor at the time, and he said it was normal. |

| Weight Loss | How do you avoid a plateau? | Jul 13 2008 20:52 (UTC) |

I've lost 120 pounds. I never plateaued. I think the key is being honest and thorough with your calorie counting. The only times my loss slowed was when I was eating more - or it was that time of the month - which I don't count. There is a shot of my progress spreadsheet in my profile if you want to see it.

| Weight Loss | A post I read a few weeks ago destroyed my motivation. | Jul 11 2008 18:35 (UTC) |

Exercise is critically important to maintain health long term. Studies on many different ailments say so. That being said... the math of weight loss is calories, and exercise in moderate amounts doesn't burn many calories. One high calorie dinner can "undo" the calories burned from a week of workouts. So, should you exercise? Yes, for many many reasons. Will weight loss be "significantly" impacted by the calories you burn doing so... not really. |

I've been making cake singles from regular mix. It's 170 calories per serving. Just measure one serving, two tablespoons of water or diet soda, microwave for 1 min and then let stand for 1 min It's yummy! Did the same with banana nut muffin mix last night :) |

| Motivation | Help - Mentally Hungry All Day | Jul 04 2008 23:33 (UTC) |

If you are physically hungry you should either eat more or eat food that are healthier and tend to keep you full - more protein, more fiber HOWEVER, most people who are overweight have life or emotional issues that are the major cause of overeating in the first place. If you have not addressed an underlying emotional issue, chances are that eventually, your head telling you to eat all the time will win. Unfortunatly, it's not as easy as changing your habits and limiting your calories. You have to figure out why you were eating too much to begin with. Just my 2 cents... |

Great post for the most part. A few notes: That 200g apple is more like 110 calories, not 200. Counting calories correctly is also important. Not everything is right for everybody. Not everything in a box, bag, etc is bad. Find what works for you - and take with a grain of salt! Good luck!! |

| Weight Loss | Goal! From 268 to 150! Woohoo! | Jun 30 2008 16:53 (UTC) |

Thanks all! *blush* What have you done to keep your self motivated? I charted my progress in detail on a spreadsheet. For me this really helped. I know some people have problems getting too obsessive, so I don't suggest it for everyone. But for me - it has been great! Every time I gain a pound temporarily from water or weekend eating I can always look back and put things in perspective. I track my weekly average calories, my weekly average exercise sessions (not exact calories) and my weight. I have a graph showing only monthly weights - can't stand the little ups and downs. I also keep track of measurements monthly. What hurdles did you have to overcome? Everything! Life, emotions, boredom, anxiety, work... Anxiety being the biggest. I struggle with that every day - and food was my biggest comfort. I probably spent about a year lining up in my head how I could actually do this before I started. I watched other people for a long time - how they ate, how they exercised, how they talked about food, and then one day I was just ready to start and I did. And although I have looked back on occasion, I haven't stopped! What were the things that really seemed to work for you? Consistency has been the biggest thing. Forgiving myself for being flawed. Trying my best not to freak out when the scale doesn't move or goes up a little when I'm doing everything "right" (by the way - hating that I'm 151 this morning!) The pictures have been very important to me. Seeing progress is very difficult when it's on you - the pictures help with that a lot. |

I've personally never been able to eat less than 1500 with any success. I'm 5'2'' and regardless of my weight or activity, anything below that makes me feel ill. I really would recommend eating a little bit more. My main exercise is simply walking 30-45 minutes a day. Can you fit that in? |
