how likely is it that someone's going to break into your house while you're in it.... I'd say not very. well unless they have ammo on them, that'd make it easier for them, even if you do have a gun yourself. I just think there'd be much less gun crime if the whole of America weren't able to get one.

London here =) well... Greater London.

I agree with the more choice of food in America. I didn't go to any supermarkets but when I went to new york at the begninning of the month I realised that just the little corner shops have looaadss of variety. even the bloody pharmacy was full of food! and had like 3 floors lol it was well weird. there's SO much stuff! but it seems a bit odd for a corner shop to have a salad bar, smoothie maker, frozen yoghurt machine, deli, ice cream counter ....and a lot of other stuff. but i did like the little pots of cereal they sold, why don't they do them over here? that way i wouldn't end up eating a whole box!

but I have to admit people over there are a bit rude, my dad nearly got into a fight with a bloke at the airport cos he wouldnt budge up to let my dad sit down lol.

I actually find America's obsession with guns laughable. And the excuse that it's for "protection". I wonder what percentage of Americans actually use their guns for protection? Am I being narrow minded or is it just a really silly excuse? I really don't understand why people are able to get their hands on a gun so easily and for no purpose whatsoever. I'm from the UK and this is one of the reasons I would never want to live in the US.

P.S. I hope that didn't offend anyone, just my opinion.

subwaybusker - you're idea sounds yummy I might try that next time =)

pieface you're idea sounds delish too but I don't use butter in anything so I won't be able to try that, but thanks!

thanks clairelaine. I ate the yoghurt, after it sitting here for an hour. but only after the guy sitting next to me got up from his desk. i don't know if I should eat a bit more to make sure I don't binge tonight? but I'm really not hungry and it may lead to me being uncomfortably full. I think I'll leave it.

hey girls I hope you're all good. I've been reading most of your post and think you're all doing great so keep it up =) and for the new people - well done for making the choice to recover.

Just popped in to say something that I think may help in the road to recovery. I went to see my dietitian yesterday and told him that I have trouble eating when other people aren't. and eating regularly instead of binging and restricting. He explained to me that people who restrict and binge have more of a chance of becoming overweight than people who eat regularly because the metabolism gets all messed up. When you eat regularly your metabolism is regular so burns off calories that you don't need. But when you restrict your metabolism is low so when you binge,  it doesn't burn off as many calories as it should. It may take a while for our metabolisms to adjust back to normal because of the cycle but it will happen.

So eating regurlay is preventing us from becoming overweight. Sorry if you all already knew this, it's a bit obvious but I didn't fully realise it myself untill he explained it in detail yesterday, now I realise that what I was doing was pointless because I had more of a chance of becoming overweight in the future.

Just thought I'd point that out =) hope it helps

I've stuck to everything so far! =) exept one grape I didn't eat because it was a bit manky =P lol

thanks mrs_yooper it has improved a lot!

Ohio45 do you have any tips on how I can incorporate more protein into my diet? I don't really like meat that much, my evening meals tend to be vegetarian Indian meals, unless I have a weight-watchers meal - which most of the time is either penne with tomato sauce and chicken or veggie lasagne.

also, my dietitian said that flatbreads are the best ones to have so the pitta and chapatis are fine. Not too sure about the cereal though lol what do you suggest for healthy carbs?

and Happy belated Birthday robyneg! =) hope it was a good one

ooh another point... just because I hate gyms lol. if you want to get more exercise than trampolines are really fun! or you could get a hula hoop? or a skipping rope? or go swimming at the weekend? there's plenty of things you can do to be more active without having to go on a treadmill for ages =) unless of course you prefer working out at the gym, cos some people do.

do you have any siblings? normally younger siblings are very active so you could play football or tennis or something with them in your  garden after school - when you're not playing softball.

hope I've helped =)
Weight Loss does TOTM need more calories???? Aug 16 2007

Congratulations on losing your first 25lbs!

I've done some and this is what I found:

Before your period Research shows that many of our cravings for chocolate and carbohydrate-rich foods are particularly intense in the days leading up to menstruation. Experts theorize that women may overeat carbs in an attempt to raise serotonin levels to counter the bad moods and mild depression related to PMS.

Also, we actually need more calories premenstrually, so it would make sense we might experience more cravings if we're short on energy. Although there have been a number of studies examining cravings and the menstrual cycle, scientists still don't know exactly why some women crave carbs, chocolate and other sugary foods before their periods.

This is about Pre-Menstruation but doesn't mention anything about DURING periods. There have been little bits of info I've read though so overall I'd say:

Cravings are just that - Cravings. In some situations the body craves certain foods because it needs them, but during TOTM it's likely to just be hormones. Try to stay on track and drink lots of WATER. If you eat to make yourself feel better, try going for a walk as exercise also releases those feel-good chemicals. Also, have lots of fresh fruit as they have natural sugars which can make you feel better and satisfy those sugar cravings.

But if you don't want to go mad from all the cravings then I'd still allow yourself a bit more than you would usually, but don't over- do it. I'd say what you're doing now is fine, you won't put on any weight frome eating 200cals extra as long as you're still eating healthily. and it'll stop you from going mad with aggrevation!

I'd say the main thing is don't take it too seriously, you're still young so don't just be focused on losing weight, focus on beng healthy. I'd say rather than going to the gym, carry on playing softball, try to get in a lot of walking, maybe start bike riding? I don't think there's anything wrong with going to the gym once or twice a week, as long as the work outs aren't too strenious.

but I think if you cut out the junk food (allowing the occasional treat) and do a little more exercise then you'll lose weight without having to go to the gym.

what are you eating at the moment?

haha last night's argument with Gerry and Carol... and Brian... and Tracey. lol. "Deal with it!"

really don't like Gerry. but Carol does make me laugh. Kitchen Police lol. Apart from that, not very exciting. exept Liam's jealous of Brian & Amanda. I don't believe that though, he probably did just really want to get it right, like he said lol.

ALSO:

what do you think about Liam & Amanda? do you think they fancy each other? or one of them does? or maybe Liam fancies a bit of twin action? or is it just innocent play?

I think they'll def pick Gerry as he's getting on everyone's nerves atm. and I think poss Jonty as the twins get on with Kara more than him and I don't think the other two appreciate Jonty's farting lol and they wouldn't want to upset Sam & Amanda.

but who knows... anything could happen...

haha seriously though, he's always making moves on Carol! lol

oh I didn't know it was a double eviction! I hope gerry and jonty go together.

do you watch BBLB? apparetly the guru's have to pick who's gonna go. :o who do you think they'll pick?

edit: the 'gurus' are: Ziggy, the Twins and Tracey - who won yesterday's 'Soul' task.

Brian to win! woo! at first I thought, come on he can't be that stupid, who hasn't heard of Shakespeare? but I've grown to like him. and the whole Brian&Amanda thing - I feel so sorry for him, Amanda blatently doesn't like him back lol.

but I do like the twins, when they first entered the house I thought "oh god these two are gonna be the most annoying housemates in BB history" but I was wrong, I think they are genuinely nice.

My opinion on Ziggy has changed since Chanelle left (get her back in!) he seems a lot more chilled out and seems to be quite funny.

I'm still not sure about Carol. Can't deny, she is a crack up but the whole obsessive cleaning thing gets a bit old.

Not sure about Tracey either, she has come out of her shell a bit recently and is quite funny and getting closer to the housemates but I don't think it's enough to win.

I think Kara's alright, apart from her annoying laugh. but why is half of her face a different colour to the other? :s

Jonti is an odd one, it has to be said. The laughing at random times is a bit silly but he does make me laugh occasionally.

I like Liam, but I didn't enjoy the whole "LAmy" thing. (one reason being because she's mingin and he's too good for her =P) but I think it changed the publics opinion on him a bit and made him seem like a bit of a player.

Gerry. oh Gerry. intelligent, but bloody arrogant. did you see when Ziggy won the task? "its just pure luck". I was so annoyed at that. get him out!

...and get Chanelle and Charley back in. In fact get everyone out and just keep those two in forever =P lol

I also want to know how to get my periods back as I have stopped exercising for a while now and think I have enough fat and even though I am only very slightly underweight, I look normal, a little chubby even. I haven't had them since March. I wouldn't mind gaining a little but I don't know how much it will take. I think someone out there just doesn't want me to be slim lol.

redstar - I'm currently seeing a dietitian and a therapist once a week, I haven't seen them for about three weeks though cos I've been on holiday and they've been on leave but I'm seeing them this week. Sometimes I find that they really do help but then other time I get really annoyed with them and it makes me want to relapse just to get on their nerves lol stupid reason but idk.

I know what you're saying, I'm stuck in the middle, I want to recover but then I don't, or I can't bring myself too. now I'm turning to binging and thats causing depression so then i restrict again and its just a bunch of disorders going round in circles and I don't wanna live like that! but then in some ways it gives me a sense of identity so its like if i dont have that then i dont have anything, stupid i know but i just have to keep getting help, accepting it and trying to turn this around, i know you can too! i do reccommend you see someone about it, even if its just to take out anger or shout at them for an hour lol, trust me - it helps!
