Motivation anyone losing weight without excercising daily? Oct 04 2007

I lost about 10 lbs. with little exercise.   I hate exercise, and exercise when I can.  I am trying to maintain without exercise.  I'm having a hard time, so I guess I'll need to my calories by 100 a day and see the results.   I know that if I rely on exercise I'll quite exercising and put on weight for sure.   I'm trying to find the right calorie intake to maintain without exercise.   The calorie calculators are just averages and you must tinker and adjust the daily intake.

Losing weight fast can be dangerous to your health.   If you lose the weight slowly then most of will be fat loss and not lean body mass.   At the beginning of my diet I tried to eat about 1500 calories but I usually ate between 1500 - 1800.  At 1800 I'll probably lose about a 1/2 lb. a week.  I started eating frozen meals (lean cuisine) since I knew exactly the calories I was eating.  I tried eating more protein, though I don't like meat all that much.  I'm trying to eat more fish.  I then went on a phase of eating subway sandwiches 3 or 4 times a week.  A 6"" turkey sandwich with no cheese and no oil is only 280 calories.   I now am using meal replacement  shakes once or twice a day as a snack.  They are very sweet and have lots of vitamins and minerals in them.   Along with a weight lifting program with a few dumbells, I've lost about 15 lbs. in 4 months.   I agree with other posters, it can be frustrating when other people lose 2 or 3 pounds a week.   But I'm so hungry, I couldn't sustain a very low calorie diet.

Slow and steady wins the race.....

I eat 2 or 3 meals a day.  If I try to eat 5 or 6 times a day, then I'm never satisfied.  One may be pushing it, but if it works for you and you don't go over your daily allotted calories then it wouldn't hurt occasionaly.

I just returned a digital scale I bought yesterday.  It was giving different readings everytime I stepped onto  it.   What price do you consider cheap and what price should an accurate digital scale cost?

I am currently half way through my weight loss adventure.  I cut out alcohol entiirely.  Alcohol lowers your inhibitions, and therefore increases your food intake and increases your appetite.  If you are having trouble losing weight then give it up.

Cookies are evil. A sure way to blow a diet.  I ate about 6 tea biscuits today.  I did fit them into my calorie count.   Don't buy them and you won't be tempted.  You have about 5 different types, that must mean 5 bags.  If you can't control yourself don't buy in such bulk.

I also gave up peanut butter.  One tbsp.  doesn't go very far in a sandwich and it also is not very filling. I decided to eat food that is more satisfying.

Dieting does seem like forever.   Who wouln't love to lose 10 lbs. a week.  Healthly dieting is a long laborious task.  Just keep at it and don't get upset.  I once heard the analogy "that it's like putting pennies in a piggy bank."  Results take many months and then after there's maintenance, or you''ll just regain it.

Foods Lean Cuisines healthy? May 16 2007

I've been eating 2-4 lean cuisines a day for about a month.  One of my problems has been counting calories.  It is very difficult to weigh and measure what you eat.  That has been my downfall.  When I eat these I know for certain what the calorie count will be.  The sodium count is 25 to 33% each, which means you could eat 2 or 3 before the sodium goes over the daily limit.   I find estimating to be very unrealiable.  People eat in restaurants,  or open up cans which contain preservatives and lots of sodium.  I find it very difficult to cook from scratch.   So I find these very helpfull.
Foods flavored coffee May 16 2007

Coffee made from flavored beans, such as chocolate macadamia nut (my favorite), is virtually calorie and fat free. Flavored beans are simply regular coffee beans that have been infused with compounds that offer more taste without any added calories.

That said, powdered instant flavored coffees are made with added sugar and fat. Each six-ounce serving contains about 100 calories and three grams of fat. Sugar-free versions save on calories, but they still have fat.   AND those flavored syrups used by coffee shops also add calories.

I once went to a coffee shop and they used a syrup, when I asked for a Irish Cream.   You have to make sure they use beans which are roasted.

If you don't count calories, then you won't know how much you're consuming.  I stopped counting and gained 15 lbs.  Just 100 or 200 calories more a day can be significant over a year.  I think I'll have to count forever.
Motivation biggest enemy to weight loss...hunger May 14 2007

Try eating more protein.  Protein tends to keep hunger at bay.   Check out the satiety index, since foods have a different satiety value.

From which burger chain did you consume this burger as they do vary? I guess one Wendy's burger couldn't hurt if you count calories.

Weight Loss Where to buy the real Hoodia? May 11 2007

I'm on my third bottle that I bought at Wal-Mart.  It does seem to take the edge of the hunger, but I'm not sure if it's the glass of water taken with it, or a placebo effect.  I don't think I'll continue buying more since I have success with counting calories and eating lean cuisine meals.
