Foods Water Mar 23 2008

If you drink 1.5 litres of water a day and eat a few fruits then you easily have enough water intake. if you ate a lot of foods that are high in sodium then you might add 0.5 - 1 litres of water, but don't worry, if that's the case you will get thirsty anyway :)

Weight Loss I murdered the scale Mar 16 2008

That's because muscle weights more than fat, so if youre exercising while watching what you eat, you might not lose weight. because the weight you lost was fat but you gained weight by muscle building. Good news however ist, musclemass not only weights more than fat cells, it is also smaller. I for example am again at a little plateau but still losing waist size while I am at a comfortable weight already, I still keep up with not eating junk and more healthy stuff like I started to about eight months ago when I was arround 50 lbs heavier. Now it's the second month that I haven't lost much weight(only about 1lbs), nothing to worry though. I only had my body fat measured when I was a teen about 5 years ago, but if I remember right it was something arround 35% and if I should guess now, it might be arround 20% since I don't really have much fatty spots left and my stomach is almost flat :)

So losing weight quick now will only be possible  by losing muscle mass&nb sp;but that's something I won't go for, I can live with weighting arround 155lbs even if it's not a BMI under 24 for me. A friend of mine puts the same weight up to the scale and is a little bit smaller than me but he's really thin, and much into sports... -I wouldn't consider him "slightly overweight" ;)

Foods how do you control your sodium levels? Mar 01 2008

How do I control my sodium levels mhh. I don't care, my BODY controls them, what is not needes gets out of it, I drink enough so it isn't a problem for me. And I can at least guarantee everyone here, it is totally unimportant to watch the sodium level for weight loss since I lost quite much without caring about it at all. Sodium is really overrated, be sure to drink enough water/eat enough water rich foods, and your body will take care about your sodium levels!

Ah lol... I see, I'm not alone with my tight problem.

I used to have huge tights, I wasn't measuring them back then, nowadays they are still a little bit too large (especially considering that I'm male ^^). they are 22 inches now and I try to get them down to at least 20, that would be fine and it wouldn't look as awkward as it looks now, cause I have a rather slim waist...

I'm feeling really horrible for everything that I eat. And then at night putting everything into my calorie log makes me feel even worse. I HATE my fat, and feel extremely ugly and stressed when the scale says anything over 120. :[ I really don't want to feel this way but I don't know how to avoid it.

hey easy! You are talking about being fat while you look quite nice already. You shouldn't stress yourself that much! If your cal intake really stays above 1500 a day, then you're doing it the right way. You shouldn't be worrying about your weight all the time. Instead look into the mirror and see the changes. weight fluctuates over time, I also had times when I weighted up to three pounds more than I had the other day, that's why you shouldn't get on teh scale everyday.

About your self esteem problems: I don't really know why you have them, you look really good and you should be proud of it! You're going through a hard time judging from your age, but you will get over it! If you want to improve your self confidence then just look at yourself in the mirror and accept yourself. You really can, cause you are a beautiful girl, no need to be shy or underconfident about it. also remind yourself as often as possible, that most people are like you, too much obsessed about what others think about them, they simply don't have the time to think about you at all, because they are worried enough about their own!  And even if they think about you, most of them will be jealous that you can walk arround with your head up high and wondering how you can be that confident about yourself while they can't. Just think about the feeling you will have, it's easy, keep your head up and show them that you're more than worth, walking arround your town, proud of yourself :)

Well my weightlog says it all:

*ttp://img252.imageshack.us/img252/8843/weigh tlogll6.jpg

When I joined CC I was 94kg(207) heavy now it's down to 78.5kg(172lbs) as of today. I started losing weight before joining CC. Back then I was 100kg - 220lbs heavy. The point where I realized that this can't go any further. I got to 94kg within two months by just stopping to eat potato chips, chocolate and other junk, while eating normally like I used to. I also stopped drinking soft drinks at that time, which sure helped a lot too, the only thing I drink since then is Water, lot's of it Smile

After some time I found this site, and got great insights to what food was all about, energy nothing else, what I knew all along came clearer to me. I sorted out the foods that where calorie dense and was going for the food that where high in fibre, I started to eat more fruits and less fat. I stopped using butter and white bread, instead I went for whole grain and low fat cream cheese on my bread. Cutting visible fat off helped also a lot. I also got a new idea of food overall: I always thought meat makes you fat and cheese is good, ha! Completely wrong, lean meat is pretty low in cals and makes you feel full for a much longer time than diary products ever could.

To be honest, I only counted cals the first two months being here, then, after knowing almost every food I eat regularly by cals(yeah it's cool you see that slice of bread and your brain puts a "70 cals" tag on it!) i stopped counting completely. It's a bit sad though, because I'm all for the stats and would love to look back on what I ate the last months. But I don't really have the time to look after everything I've eaten, I guess it's enough to see my weight graph going down and down again, when I reached the magic 80kg goal(and that two weeks prior to what CC calculated back when I was still 94kg heavy) I was really happy about myself and seeing how I did it. My new and final goal is 72kg(158lbs) now, I will try to maintain tht wheight, after reaching it, for the rest of my life. only 6.5kg to go, that looks so small to the 15.5kg I already lost. If CC is right I will reach my final goal in may, oh yeah! Smile

by the way: It's great to wear M-Size shirts instead of XL Laughing

If you want to stop eating cookies, then stop buying them! Not having that stuff at home will put you to ease, cause you won't go driving to the next shop just to get some cookies, at least that's true for me. same goes with chocolate or other sweets. If you really want to eat something sweet get some fruits instead, but be carefull with them, like ordinary sweets they will give you a bit of a sugar rush so you will want to eat more of them and they aren't cal free as we know ^^

Unless you don't start ea ting another 1k cals cook ies and eating your norma l meals in between I  ;wouldn't worry if I was& nbsp;you...  However, realizing the guilt is the first step to getting better and watching more carefully what you eat!

hi, thanks for the info! i have a question:

if ive slowed down my metabolism by lowering calorie intake, is there anyway for me to get back up again without gaining weight?

thanks!

Ahh the mystery... actually... no mystery at all. If you want to get it back to normal, eat normal. You will first gain weight, you can't do anything about that, give your body a week or two to understand that you are eating enough again(your metabolism didn't slow down immediately either). Then slowly drop your cals back to a level where you are a bit under your maintenance level (about 500 cals less than that) keep that cal intake until you get the weight of your choice ;)

That are nice statistics there. But for everyone that can't go with 5 or even 6 meals per day: don't worry too much about it. I lost 45 pounds by eating 3 meals a day, just because time doesn't allow me to eat differently(breakfast, lunch, dinner, sometimes a few fruits as snack later arround 9 o' clock). Like the first post shows: eating even one burger can throw you completely out of your balance, that's why I've eaten my last burger about a year ago. If you go eating out however, try to eat really small meals in between, let's say a 200 cals breakfast and a 300 cals dinner if you really have a 1500 cal dinner at your favorite chinese or whatever.

However, I think it's logical that you have to eat something before doing a big workout, best would be something high in protein like a protein shake, cause it helps you building muscle, while giving you energy to do your workout without fainting :)

Well I don't know you good enough to answer your question either, so that might be the main reason why the mod didn't reply to you at all ;)

To be completely honest: I never added anything in the burn meter and only added foods the first two or three months I started with CC. And well, I lost 45 lbs over the course of nine months. Nothing special really, just be sure to watch what you eat and only eat when you're hungry, that way you'll reach your weight-goal, not tomorrow, not next week, but within a reasonable amount of time. Far too many people here take the whole calorie counting way too serious and then wonder why they stopped losing weight on a plateau or something.

Just follow these simple rules and I guarantee you, that you will lose weight in a healthy time by a healthy way:

1) Eat the right stuff, high in fibre, get minerals and vitamins, drink enough water
2) Eat when you're hungry! Your body is the best indicator for when you're really hungry.
3) Keep your protein high, I can't stress it enough, I recommend about 30% of your daily cals to be protein.

That's it, best of luck to you!

Stop eating cookies or if you eat cookies, then quit every meal at that day, yeah I have a cookie phobia x) They are all damn bad for you, hate em... still I can't resist to eat a few, because they are everywhere -.-

I would reccomend you to do something interesting while lying there, read a good book or something, just don't get bored, because when humans get bored they tend to EAT and that is bad and won't help you much in losing weight. I would reccomend that you log every tiny bit of cal you take in and try to stay at least at your maintainance intake level of cals, worry about workouts later, when you are actually able to do them ;)

I have one simple rule and it helped me grately to lose almost 50 lbs in the course of aprox. 9 months now, and it is: Eat when you're hungry!

Well, it worked for me, and I guess it would work for so many people as well, if they would listen a little more to their body needs. Sure you will stay hungry even if you eat two or three bigmacs and eating more then will lead you to gain weight on the double...

But coupled with an healthy lifestyle you won't be hungry if you have a 500-800 calorie deficit at the end of the day, of course only if you eat the right foods(low in fats, high in fibres, right amount of protein, carbs and fats[values that worked wonders with me where: 30-35% protein, 35-40% carbs, 20-30% fats]). You can visit my profile if you want more hints ;)

Weight Loss I have only lost..... UPDATE!!!! Dec 23 2007

Original Post by jschirmer:

Ok well, I am 23 and I have been trying to lose weight for two weeks.  I am at 242. I have only lost 3lbs.  I think that is rather low for all the things that I am doing.  I am working out lightly about 6 days a week(20min) a day.  I have been eating about 1600 calories a day.  Tell me if this is normal, or if my body is going into conservation mode?  Or do I have to step up the activity?  Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.  :)

Come back in three months and laugh about your complaints, when you've lost&n bsp;about 20 lbs already ;)

Just keep it going, you'll soon realize that you won't get thin overnight as well as you won't get fat over night. If you are looking for that wonderstuff that get's rid of 20 lbs within a month, skip it, I haven't found anything that will really work(well I haven't tried anything of that stuff either because it doesn't work, yay). All those diet pills will only help you(if they work) to regulate your calorie intake, but it seems like you can take care of it already and hold it at about 500 cals below your intake.

You have to understand: 3500 cals mean 1 lbs of fat(not 100% of it is fat but most of it) lost. So if you have a 500 deficit over the course of a week every day then you will have lost 1lbs, you lost 3lbs in 2 weeks, that sounds just about right for you, if you consume about 700 cals(like you said) less a day, than you body needs to maintain the weight! -I did the same months ago, and I have lost about 2lbs a week which now added up to a total loss of almost 50 lbs!

Do the maths and you will see that you are on track, if you want to lose faster, then try to cut another 100 cals a day but you shouldn't go much lower if you want a recommendation from me...

LOL!

you WON'T lose 17 lbs within a month(and even IF, you would gain it back the next month anyway!), not at your weight, that is just impossible, you might as well just stop thinking about it right now.

People that weight 300lbs or more can basically lose 17 lbs within a month(at an healthy rate without using strange pills or diets that will only work for losing waterweight) but not you, and you shouldn't anyway.

It's to hard to keep eating 1200 calories with such yummy food around so my goal this xmas is to maintain 160lbs at 1500 calories a day and IGNORING calories, but still making good choices on christmas day.

Anyone going to join me?

I would join you but eating 1500 cals a day would be 600 cals less than I should to lose weight on a regular basis ;)

I still don't understand how you can live by eating as little as 1200 cals a day, that just seems insane to me. I know, I know, as a girl and prolly not that tall so you need less cals to maintain your weight / lose weight. But still reading of people that consume 1200 cals a day just sounds crazy to me... (knowing that one of my meals can easily be worth that amount of cals)

As for christmas: Just stay away from cookies and everything will be fine, eat a few pieces of chocolate instead, but don't eat cookies, they are the worst thing on this planet, a few can easily get you to a plus of 1.000 cals...

I meant CC says healthy is 20-25, not 24. I guess it just provides an estimate, because my dad eats incredibly healthy, and at age 50 he runs 5 miles a day. But at 5'7 (I know he's a short little Italian ;) and 147 lbs, he technically has a higher BMI than me! Weird.

It might have something to do with your age? I guess CC's BMI tool is just more accurate than any other, that's the reason for the different ranges for everyone here. Because my BMI Tool says this, being 23 years old:

BMI Calculator
Based upon your current Body Mass Index (BMI) of 24.5, you are currently classed as slightly overweight.

A healthy BMI for your gender and age is between 20 and 24 and a reasonable weight loss rate is 0.5 to 1 kg a week.

Ahhh!!!

August 14th:

Start weight: 221 lbs
Current Weight: 190lbs
Goal Weight: 160 lbs

long time no entry in here, lot's of things have changed :)

Well here I stand now:

Dezember 17th:

Start weight: 221 lbs
Current Weight: 175bs
Goal Weight: 160 lbs

15 pounds down within 4 months is ok I guess, aprox. 4 pounds per month. 46 pounds down total!

If I can hold that speed, then I will have my last and final goal weight of 160 lbs sometime spring08 :D

What did I do for losing that weight? Well easy: No sweets(almost none only if I was 200-300 cals under my daily calorie intake of ~1900-2000 cals) no added fats that could be avoided(butter good bye, hello cream cheese light), the darkest bread available with lot's of grains instead of white, highly processed stuff. My last Burger was sometime in 2006!

Exercise? no, not really, I did exercise in the beginning but I stopped it, I have a quite stressfull job where I get enough to do and to run arround so i don't get lazy anyways.

"You want to tell us that you lost, simply by staying at arround 2000 cals?!" - Yes I want to tell you all that it is that way, hehe, man that was easy, but you really have to stick with it, yes you can have some icecream once in a while, yes you can try some chocolate or chips, but never make the mistake and eat them, when you already had a large meal and am full anyway. Eat them when you know you had low calorie stuff and that it won't hurt you to get some extra cals. It's really easy, most people underestimate the snacks, that's why they don't lose in a regular basis ;)

I was eating out with my colleagues yesterday, because of our yearly xmas party. Well I ate a good soup then a salad and some grilled meat with potatoes. After that I was full, I get full much faster now than I got last year, well I weighted about 40lbs more last year, that might be the reason for this. So I just skipped the desert(which was about aprox. 1000 cals lol) and therefore I didn't blew my 2000 cal limit for that day eather :)

Moral of the story: Skip the desert and you don't have to fear anything.

So I guessed right ^^ Well.. apples are fine you know but don't eat them in huge amounts, they may have an A rating here but they can make you really hungry, like voss mentoined they are even worse because they don't only make you hungry because of it's high amount of sugar(apples only contain contain sugar and water and a little bit of fibre). I like to have an apple(or other fruits) as a snack If I really want something sweet, the cals of them are still pretty low for the good taste they have. Apples may not be processed but their carbs are almost ready to be used, like a tablespoon of sugar in your mouth. Brown rice on the other hand, ist something your body has to process on it's own so it can use the carbs, which is good, cause it will keep your stomach busy and you won't get hungry that bad.

Be sure to not eat more than say 60% carbs a day. It would be fine to have both protein and fat at about 20-25% of your daily  calorie intake. If you don't eat meat because you think it's unhealthy, think about it again, protein is really really important for your body. If you don't like it for other reasons then you should drink at least a protein shake a day, your body needs it to build muscles and maintain them after all...

Weight Loss How to stop eating Oct 19 2007
23:33 (UTC)

To stop eating? Oh my, nothing easier! Think about what you do when overeating, even I had a few times of weaknesses but I always stopped before I did something that you would call overeating. How did I stop? I just thought about WHAT I was doing at the moment, and my mind realized that it was stupid and useless. It worked. And a little hint by the way: If you don't want to have those overeating attacks, then stop eating like you are(not enough that is for sure) you can lose pretty much weight by just altering your calories by as much as 500 less a day and you'll lose at a consistent rate over time. I started losing weight like that about 9 months ago, since then I dropped from 218 to 179 lbs...

If you still get eating attacks, try to cut out a little bit of your carb input, most of the time you get overeating attacks because you ate too much processed carbs(like Alcohol and sugar, also fruit sugar can be a pain, remember sugar is always natural, no matter if it's added or in the food itself already) Fruits are fine because of their vitamins and minerals but their high carb and most of the time already high processed carbs your body won't need much power to use give you eating attacks because of too high insulin levels in your blood, at least that's afaik and as far as I experienced it on myself.

ps: I can't recommend drinking lot's of water while eating. Simple reason: You'll weaken the acids in your stomach, it really needs to get the nutrition out of the food. That might sound great in the first place, because you feel full sooner, in the long term you will get hungry again because you most likely didn't eat what your body needs and if you keep up doing this then you might end up with an illness... However drinking small sips might not be harmful at all, I just think I have to warn of drinking excessive amounts of water(1-2 bottles) while eating...
