Here's a typical week day Breakfast: Coffee, one piece of pumpernickel bread Snack: light yogurt Lunch: Salad with Tuna or Chicken, 1 piece of bread Snack: Piece of fruit Dinner: 1 glass red wine, olives, baked vegetables (I cut up a bunch of veggies, mix them with spices and bake them for 25 mins - top with some Parmesan cheese) Desert: 1/2 banana, 1 cup strawberries, skim milk blended together

| Fitness | Spinning???? | Jun 15 2009 10:58 (UTC) |

I've been doing this on my own for about 6 months now. I've only ever taken 2 classes, but on my own I think I push myself pretty hard (though I don't have a heart monitor to tell). I do 1 or 2 45min sessions per week, and some times mixing up my running with 20 min sessions. I usually end up drenched in sweat afterwards. Since I started, however, I've noticed my thighs are much bigger than before. My legs never use to touch and most of my pants are much tighter. I'm not sure if this is from the spinning, but not sure why else just my thighs would get so big. Anyone else experience the same? |

I'm completely in the same boat. For no obvious reason my body decided to gain 10 lbs (after coming of BC) in Jan.09 and I've been struggling to loose it ever since. I started recording everything I eat last week (I even have an excel sheet to track everything so that my calorie total is as accurate as possible). I exercise vigoursly 5xs/week, but I've lost practically nothing. I'm 7lbs away from my goal, but no matter how hard I try, can't seem to lose any more. It's driving me mad!!! |

Thanks ily51, what I'm doing is logging everything in an excel sheet and in each day's line i have all the calories I eat, plus negative calories for my exercise. So yesterday for example, I ran 8.2 km and did ab exercises = -450 calories, putting my total for yesterday at 1400 cals, but in reality I ate 1850 calories (More than usual for me) Does that sound right? |

nah, I've been running like this (or even more) for years now, don't see why I'd start gaining more muscle out of the blue |

Thanks, I am logging everything (for example I just ate 10 grams of raisin bran and I logged it). I run 7 to 8km a day plus weights, so I thought 400 calories burned would even be too little. For the last week I've been meticulous: weighing my food, updating my food diary at all times, percisely because I thought my mental counting was too generous. Maybe a nutritionist could help me, anyone every try seeing one? |

| Health & Support | Low Progesterone Levels | Apr 05 2009 17:28 (UTC) |

I'm joining in as well - exact same issue - hadn't got my period after stopping BC in January 09, since then I have gone from 111 to 117 on a good day, but my weight can jump up to 122 from one day to the next. I'm 5'2", eat healthy, and exercise 5 days/week. I can't shake this weight and don't recognize my body - had two blood tests done and it's not a thyroid issue, plus my hormones are normal. My doctor gave me Progesterone pills to make my period come back, which it did two days ago (very painfully), but now it's disappeared again, and none of the weight has been lost. Í'm really hoping that if my period comes back to normal, the weight will shed as well. I'm getting really stressed about this though, which is leading me to eat less, exercise more, and just get more depressed because the weight doesn't come off. Hope this can get figured out sooner than later for all of us! |

Honestly, it's been a nightmare 3 months for me. I don't recognize my body and feel like I have no control, no appetite, and losing some self esteem. I really don't say that to scare you and doubt the same will happen to you, but would definitely hope others could share their experiences! |

Sexysadie09: You said you've gained coming off the pill before? I came off my BC three months ago and in this time have gained 10lbs. I'm not eating more, but I just keep gaining despite diet and exercise. It's so discouraging and I would appreciate hearing your experience. I also haven't had a period in this time and my doctor recently perscribed me protestergeon (sp) to make it come back. |

| Health & Support | Cholesterol Question | Mar 23 2009 14:02 (UTC) |

thanks for all the feedback. Yes, it could be genetic as my father and grandfather both had rather high cholesterol. The doctor told me to change my diet re the triglicerides, but when I explained what my diet is, he said the best would be to get tested again in two months and then to do a deeper study and possibly light medication for cholesterol. I also had questions re: my missing period and rapid weight gain. He said it was do to my metabolism changing. I can't believe that with my exercise and calorie intake control my weight would also just jump way up:( oh well, the frustration continues... |

my triglycerides, and cholesterol, are also too high. I don't eat a lot of meat or dairy, exercise A LOT, and get a lot of fruits and veggies. However, I do have drink red wine (really no other alcohol). I never though it was excessive, but could be the cause? How much did you drink? I'm going to another doc to see what else i can do |

Thanks for all the advice. The prospect of being like this for a year scares me. Today I'm up another 2.2 lbs and my stomach looks like a big basketball. Yes, it will be a long time before I take the pill again... |

Well I have been off Diane for 3 months and no acne problems report - thank goodness, I really couldn't handle that as well. Still haven't had my period (well just two days in 3 months - I'm hardly counting it). I'm still bloated and waiting for about 6 lbs to come off to go back to normal. My appetite is absolutely nill and I know I'm eating way below my needed calorie intake given my level of exercise, but I am trying to get proteins in. In another twist, I had a blood test to see what my hormone levels were in order to find out if that could be the reason for the water retention - hormones were fine, but my cholesterol is through the roof! As are my triglycerides! for a person who basically eats no fat, I'm more than 100 "points" above where I should be. I have a doctors appointment on Monday, but I'm seriously worried. My diet is so strict. I wish I could say that I was shoving chocolate, cheese and meat down my gullet when no one is looking and that's the reason my cholesterol is up, but I'm not, so it's not so easy to cut out the bad influences:( Hope Monday sheds some light on all this... |

| Weight Loss | Pounds from PMS? how many do you put on? | Mar 17 2009 10:36 (UTC) |

Just the kind of thread I was looking for. I'm 28, 5'2" and have put on 10 pounds since I last got my period 3 months ago (this corresponds to when I went off the pill). This despite drinking loads of water and exercising 5xs/week. I'm hoping when my period finally comes back the weight will go away. It's sooo uncomfortable! |

| Health & Support | my body's going out of control - rapid weight gain?? | Mar 09 2009 10:26 (UTC) |

So I spoke to my gyno and he said it's just my body retaining liquid and that I should avoid going back on the pill for a long time. I don't know what I've done to myself, but my weight is fluctuating up a down each day around 4 to 5 pounds never getting anywhere close to my normal weight. My gyno didn't encourage it, but my boyfriend, also a doctor, suggested I take a diruretic for a week or two. I'm not a big fan, but I'm getting so depressed about not having any control over my weight and looking at this huge stomach which doesn't seem to be my own, so I'm giving it a try. arghh |

I've taken two pregnancy tests and both were negative, but the way my abdomin is sticking out, well, it's just not normal. This morning I woke up and weighed 2lbs more - making it a 12 lb gain in 5 weeks. It seems so petty, but each time I look at myself I start crying, I feel totally out of control. What doctor should I see? I live far away from home, so my family doctor isn't an option. Should it be a gynocologist? I did have my period, kind of, so i don't know if there's another reason I'm retaining water (I hope that's what it is). |

Hi, I didn't start taking Diane 35 because of acne, in fact, I had no acne problems before hand - just took it because of a suggestion from a friend and did not consult a doctor - something I should have done to possibly avoid the situation I'm in now. Still, I haven't had any acne since I went off the pill 2 months ago. My period is now over, but it was hardly ever here - was way too light and I didn't shed a pound. I'm still so bloated, but don't know which doctor i should see. Ugh, this is so frustrating. |

| Weight Loss | best birth control for NOT gaining weight? | Feb 25 2009 14:44 (UTC) |
|
I'm actually having more problems with weight off the pill than on it. I was on Diane 35 for about a year (big mistake - way to high dosage for me) and maintained my ideal weight the entire time. I came off it at the end of December 08. I haven't had my period in two months and have gained 9lbs without eating more and maintaining exercise levels. I feel horribly bloated all the time and feel like my body transformed itself over night and now won't go back to normal. If I do get back to how I was, I'm staying away from the pill for awhile |

ok, I'm keeping this thread alive so that if someday someone else goes through something similar - they can search for some reference. Today I weighed 2.2 lbs more than yesterday, stomach is still huge, clothes don't fit, etc. Nothing's changed for the last month! but I finally got hold of my doctor who said this is not sooo unusual. He told me to go back on the pill I was originally on for 7 days and hopefully with this my period will come back and my body will return to normal. I just started today, but am hoping and praying this works!!! |

Thanks for your help, I also have a few boxes of Yaz that my doctor gave me after my last checkup to take after I stopped my former pill. I didn't take them because I wanted to be off the pill for awhile to clean out my system. I'm just hoping that when/if my period returns, things will get back to normal and I'll shed these extra pounds. I'm just not sure when it's coming back! jeschult - did your period take a while to return after stopping the pill in the past? |

| Weight Loss | Am I over doing it? | Feb 12 2009 18:58 (UTC) |
|
you need to let your body relax so as not to over do it, which can lead to injuries, exhaustion, etc. Also, changing your work outs and introducing more variety will lead to better results. Through weight loss and maintenance I have always set 5xs/week as my rule - you need to rest sometimes. I also feel better if I workout and a bit guilyt if I don't, but on my off days I try to do something else active, but not as intense. |

No, really, I´m not pregnant. What I eat - every day it's about the same, Breakfast = coffee, apple, slim yogurt drink or a bowl of cereal - bran flakes Lunch - tuna (in water) sandwich with tomato and cucumber and another apple Snack - some carrots and a piece of black german bread Dinner - chicken salad, or some baked chicken and veggies, red wine Desert - yogurt with fruit I don't feel like I'm eating too much. I'm usually busy all day at work running from meetings, so I don't snack at all - just eat my sandwhich at the cafe and that's it til I come home after the gym at night. My activity level is high, I guess. I don't lift heavy things at work, but I do run up and down stairs a lot and walk to work and back (about a mile). Also, I go to the gym 5 times a week - run about 5 miles, or do 45 mins of spinning. I alternate weights and pilate sessions. Jembop - really, you're the same? Did you just come of a birth control pill by any chance? Thanks for your responses! |

Ugh, I went up another kilo! (2.2lbs):( I have been monitoring calories - eating still around 1400,at most, have no appetite, keep doing my regular exercise routine and my weight climbs up a pound over night. My period is 10 days late, but this is soooo depressing. None of my clothes fit and I´m thinking about this all day long! I've never weighed this much - in the last month I've gained about 7 pounds. I could understand if I had started eating a ton of chocolate, but I haven't. Sorry, just needed a public rant |

Thanks, I'll try to suffer through another month. I am keeping a diary about activity, calories, foods, and weight - I've never done that before, so it shows I'm worried! Maybe I'll try the diuretic for a week and see if it helps... |
