Fitness Does the Burn Meter Max Out? Sep 26 2009

I believe the burn meter takes into account how many calories you would have naturally burned during that amount of time if you had remained sedentary, and subtracts that from the total you burned. Hope this helps!

I love it! While the DVD you are referring to is great to do once in awhile, you may also like Billy's Favorites until you work up to the full 1.5 hours. It's only 42 minutes and a fun workout.

Circuit training is a great idea, you may also want to check out Calisthenics - (e.g Pushups, Situps, Pullups, Jumping Jacks.)

don't laugh but I like to fantasize when I run, about silly things like dancing in a club with my bf to the song I'm listening to or running with a friend on a park while the song is being played on loudspeakers or....winning a marathon and having my dad be proud and watching me on the stands. Sometimes I find that having creative ideas helps me push myself harder.

I like that idea! I just listen to my ipod and alternate between brisk walking and jogging with every song, thinking of how many burned calories I will be able to log when I'm done. :) Also I set mini-goals for myself, for example to make it a certain distance by the 15-minute mark, etc. That makes me do math to figure out how fast I need to go!

I agree with k9stylist, my treadmill usually says about twice what I actually burn. I also have the Polar F11, and it's great! While wearing the chest strap can be annoying at times, I think it's the most accurate way to track your heart rate throughout every moment of the workout.

Fitness Help.. no exercise ordered. Alt. Heading: Jill Michaels tried to kill me... Oct 11 2008

My husband lived with a herniated disk for years, which eventually did require surgery... You don't want to get to that stage, so really try to take it easy and just watch your calories until your next appointment. I know it's hard when you have that burning urge to exercise daily! On the bright side, the doctor's post-surgery advice was that the quickest way back to the operating room would be NOT to exercise. So either way, you will not be rendered immoble forever. Hang in there! Oh, and I have done that video and it did try to kill me as well. :)
