Fitness Anyone Here Using a Pedometer? Jun 25 2009

I have kept a pedometer in my pocket nearly everyday for the last 3 years!  I love having the actual record of how active I am REALLY being!  I have sort of become a little immune to its powers to make me walk circles around my house to bring up my steps, but it definitely reminds me when I am starting to be a bit too stagnant too!  I love my pedometer!

That is true!  I love donuts, but they make me feel awful.  Some friend brought over a HUGE box of DD donuts last weekend and even after a few glasses of wine, I didn't touch a single one.  I just conjured up my memories of an upset tummy and headache from the sugar and it was easy to say no!

I have the same problem!  I have worked on this issue for a long time and the only way I manage it is by planning out my week and writing EVERYTHING down!

I use a spreadsheet to plan out my exercise schedule and my food plan.  I put the plan together on Sunday, then each day I track my progress.  I find that if I have a plan and am responsible for writing down what I did as opposed to my plan, I am accountable and I don't go overboard on either food or exercise.  I haven't figured out how to not weigh myself everyday though.  That is one thing I allow myself to be obsessive about.  I figure I can't be perfect, right!!

Trader Joes is the only place around me where I can buy stevia both in bulk and in packets.  I also like their dried fruits and nuts.  They have great trail mix, but it is very high calorie, so you really have to watch your portions.  I like a lot of their frozen foods too, but that isn't too practicle for you.  I also like to buy fresh flowers from them as they are pretty cheap, but again, that doesn't help you either (sorry)!!

These are a savior for me when my husband wants to watch football and eat Pizza!  He gets his own pizza and I pop a Kashi one in the oven.  That way I am not jealous that he is the only one eating pizza!

I did yoga this morning.  I am finding as I get stronger and more flexibe, I am liking it better.  I did find it very tedious in the beginning of the program, but now I don't mind it as much.  I do think it is useful, it is just not my favorite either.  I do like the way I feel when I am done though!!!

Good luck!

Congratulations Allibee!!!  Six pounds that quickly is amazing!  Plyo is a killer, but it DOES get easier.  Stick with it and before you know it you will reach your 36lb goal!!!

Hi Ruer - I am in week 5 now and I find that some days I feel great and strong, other days I have a hard time getting through all of the reps.  I am also finding that I think I may need to up my calories some as I am REALLY sluggish this week.  I have certainly seen an improvement overall, but there is plenty of room for improvement!!

Just stick with it, make sure you are eating enough and you will do great!!

I just completed day 30!  It is a tough program, but if you follow it you will definitely see improvement.  I am already much stronger and have lost a few pounds.  You absolutely have to follow the diet program if you want to see results losing fat, otherwise you will really just get stronger.  I can already tell I am much stronger and more flexible than day 1 and I can't wait to see how much stronger I feel on day 90!!  It is a great program.  Good luck with it!

I just started week 3.  This is my second time around.  1st time I did the lean program (a year ago), this time I am doing the classic and considering the doubles.  I am already feeling stronger again, but I am only down 2lbs.  I don't have much to lose though, so it is understandable.  I really like the variety of the program and I was finally able to complete the full Ab ripper X this morning without stopping!!

The whole DVD.  I know, I wish it was more, but it's not, at least for me!

I usually run on the treadmill for 15 minutes before I do the workout and this adds at least another 150 calories onto the workout!

Hi!  I have this DVD and I wear a heart rate monitor.  It states I burn around 300 calories on average.  I am not sure how that would translate to you, but I am 5'8",  34yr old female, 133lbs.  Hope this helps!

I am on week 1 of the classic program and I have been using my heartrate monitor to track my calorie burn.  Keep in mind that I am probably going to have much different stats than you, but I am a 34yr female, 5'8" 133lbs.  This is what I have tracked so far:

Chest & Back, Ab ripper X = 250

Plyometrics = 436

Shoulders & Arms, Ab Ripper X = 330

YogaX = 188

Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X = 475

Hopefully these numbers are useful to you,. Oh, and by the way, I am exhausted at the end of each of the workouts (including yoga)!

Good luck with the program.  This is my 2nd time around.  1st time I did the lean program and although the number on the scale didn't move much, I was in great shape!

I finished yoga this morning and eventhough it was a huge challenge, it felt great to stretch my extremly sore muscles!  I know my body was thanking me after it was over.  Week 1 stinks, but I do remember how much easier it gets, so I am hanging on.

Question regarding abs.  During Ab Ripper X Tony tells you to NOT work out your abs everday.  That being said, if you follow the program, you do yoga the day after Abs and they have inserted the 'Yoga Belly 7' section.  Isn't this overkill?  My abs are EXTREMLY sore from doing ab ripper on Monday & weds and with yoga on thurs is the abs section something that is potentially doing more harm than good?  Just wondering if anyone else has any advice here.

I finished day 3 and I was a sad sight during Ab Ripper X.  I practically had to roll out of bed this morning since my abs were too sore to sit up!!  I am actually looking forward to yoga tomorrow even though I know it is no cup of tea!

Hi nomnom!  I just started P90X today too!  I did the lean program about a year ago and really liked it.  I am starting with the classic program this time and am even considering doubles after phase 1.  Day one workout was a bear and I am not looking forward to plyometrics tomorrow although it is an awesome workout!

Definitely keep posting here.  It will be great to have someone on the same schedule as me!

I am 34, 5'8" and I weight 135 pounds.  My goal is to get rid of about 5 pounds of extra jiggle, mainly from my belly.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I did P90X last year and loved it.  I was probably in the best shape I have ever been in.  You all have motivated me to dust it off and start again.  I am not sure if I will do the lean or classic this time.  Most likely the lean!  Good luck to all of you and hang in there, it is well worth it!

Thanks for the words of encouragement!  Good luck with your weightloss.  It was a long slow process for me, but I really just changed my thought process and realized it was a life change not a diet, and that is when the weight finally came off, granted, a lot of work comes with that too!

I agree, that is why I have eased up.  I am happy that letting go a bit didn't result in weight gain.  I am going to continue to eat healthy, and I enjoy working out.  I know I need to be less obsessive about it and that is a resolution of mine for the new year.  I am just afraid that if I am not diligent, the weight will come back.  I was pretty much "pudgy" my entire life, and now that I have lost most of the weight, I never want to go back to my old self.  I would love to look better in a bathing suit as I still have a bit of a belly, but I do realize that enjoying life is a little more important than that too.  My body just doesn't want to drop any more weight and I am not willing to do anything unhealthy to get it to either.

I have the EXACT same problem!  I am 5'8" and weigh 132.  I lost about 25 pounds within 8 months and have now been at a plateau for more than a year and a half.  I exercise 5-6 days a week, running 5 miles at least 3 days and do strength training.  I count calories religously, weighing and measuring everything and I can't get the scale to budge.  In 18 months, I think I have been able to lose 2 pounds.  I loosened the reigns recently and am just starting to get back to my normal routine.  But even with overdoing it over the holidays and taking a break from my exercise routine, I don't even gain weight now either.  I am more than puzzled.  I have tried all sorts of variations on my diet (always keeping my calories above 1200/day), but nothing really seems to work.  I would literally like to lose about 4 more pounds, but at this rate, that should take me about 4 years!

I love egg white scrambles with a side of fruit.  Here are some of my favorites:

1.  EW w/spinach, tomatoes, Reduced Fat feta cheese & fresh basil

2.  EW w/zucchini, onion and topped with salsa

3.  EW w/diced chicken, basil and FF grated Parmesan cheese

I also love just plain egg whites scrambled with a side of morningstar farms sausage patties and fruit.  I make sure I have a side of fruit with my breakfast every morning.  My breakfasts keep me full for at least 3 hours.  The protein in the Egg whites really help a ton!

I am following the diet pretty closely.  I have dropped my calories below the 1800 recommended for level 1 to 1600 since 1800 was too high for me and I am still trying to drop some of those last stubborn pounds.  I am still in the fat shredder portion of the Nutrition plan and am getting a little bored with some of the recipes and am excited to move to the next phase soon.

I am on week 3 of the Lean program and just finished the core synergistic workout this morning (I hate superman/banana)!  It is a very well rounded workout.  I am excited to get some results.  Right now the only results I am seeing is being very sore almost every day.  That tells me something is working!!

I live on the outskirts of Philly in South Jersey.  I am about 12 miles away in Mount Laurel.  I do try to go into Philly whenever I can to eat at some of the delicious restaurants.  It doesn't make my dieting easy, but I am in this for the rest of my life so I have got to enjoy life along the way as well!!!  Do you live in the city?

I have never tried one, but I really really want to.  They are way too expensive for me to justify getting one, but I would also love to hear from someone who has actually used it.  It looks intriguing...

I agree with Journeying2healthy, changing up my diet is what is finally working for me.  I am 5'8" and started at 156, I am now at 132 (it has taken me years to get here).  My final goal is 127.  I have been plateaued at 133.5 for more than 6 months.  I couldn't get the scale to move.

2 weeks ago I altered my diet where I am eating more good fats, higher protein and I have really cut down on carbs.  I have always stayed away from any sorts of sugar and processed foods, but reducing my carb intake to only 1 or 2 servings a day has finally helped me to break a very very long plateau.

Not good news for me.  With the holidays and TTOM, I am up 3lbs!!  My official weigh in today is 136.5...YIKES!  I have gotten my diet and exercise regiment in full swing right now and hoping to correct this as quickly as possible....and I was doing so good before (argh!)
