| Pregnancy & Parenting | is there anyone who is pregnant or was pregnant? | Mar 06 2009 03:43 (UTC) |

I am anxious to here what the result of your blood test is. Are you preggers? Anyway, I was an accidental pregnancy, and my mother was a teenager as well. For her, it was her first time ever having sex when she got pregnant with me. She was 17, 18 when I was born. I was reall tough on her, and she was terrified. My father was 20 when I was born. They married because my mom got pregnant which was the wrong thing to do, they got divorced when I was 4. Now I sort of followed in my mother's footsteps and also had an accidental pregnancy but I was 30, and it wasn't my first time having sex. I was drunk and being irresponsible. But if you are, I know you have to be terrified. I know I was when I took that pregnancy test and it came out positive. I cried, screamed, contemplated suicide, contemplated abortion, adoption, giving the baby to the father, all kinds of nonsence. When I saw that first ultrasound at 7 weeks, I saw his heartbeat, a tiny one in a funny lima bean shaped thing inside my body. It was real! I knew then that I couldn't kill that tiny thing, so abortion was out. Then I decided to adopt, but the father told me no way, he wasn't going to sign the papers for that, he would take the baby. So I said okay. Not long after, the little bugger started to kick. And about that same time I saw an ultrasound where the "lima bean" had a huge head, a tiny round body, arms and legs, and he was moving! I was gone, I fell in love. I had my son since, 5 months ago, and he has been the greatest joy in my life. I never knew that I could love somebody so much as I love him. I would do anything for him, even throw myself off a cliff if I had to, I love him so much. So no matter how scary it may seem, when you hold that tiny bundle in your arms you will not regret having him or her. That child will be your everything, and you will wonder how you ever lived without him. I can promise you. Babies are gifts from heaven, from God. You will fall in love. Chris |

| Foods | Hubby vs. Tofu | Mar 05 2009 20:17 (UTC) |

OMG, I LOVE tofu!!!! I don't understand people who say that they don't like it "because of the texture" because to me it has a texture a lot like cheese or eggs, well the extra firm does, and the silken is like pudding. Scrambled tofu is just like scrambled eggs but much better in my opinion. I add nutritional yeast and gobs of veggies. Yummmm. I live with my mom right now and they don't like anything I cook because "I cook wierd" meaning I cook vegetarian. And my mom gets offended if I cook for myself and don't eat what the family eats because I am supposed to "eat with the family". So to keep her happy I eat what everyone else eats, and that is meat. I so want to get back into my own place again so that I can be a vegetarian again. I like to eat a vegan diet, but living here that is about impossible. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Help!!! I don't know what to do. | Mar 02 2009 03:08 (UTC) |

Pregnancy test work 5 days BEFORE your missed period. But another thing, logically, if you had unprotected sex, then had your period the next day, then you are almost definately NOT pregnant. If you had gotten pregnant then you would not of had your period, that simple. Also, I think that your period would have flushed out any sperm in there, and even if it didn't, then there is still no way, because those little buggers would have to stay alive for 2 weeks until your next ovulation cycle. Highly doubt that. Sperm TYPICALLY can only survice a max of 3 days, of course there are exceptions to every rule. I got pregnant because I had unprotected sex 2 weeks after I STARTED my period. I was drunk, not thinking, which turns out is the exact right time to get pregnant. I sounded a lot like you. I thought my life was over, I was going to get an abortion, which luckily I did not, my life was ruined, blah blah blah. But now I have my son, and I am happier than I have ever been in my whole life. He is beautiful, perfect, and wonderful. Having a baby is the best thing that has ever happened to me. And if you are pregnant, then it will be the best thing to ever happen to you too. They are wonderful, a lot of work, but wonderful. |

| Weight Loss | Atkins Diet | Mar 02 2009 02:42 (UTC) |

I am sorry, I don't mean to rip on anybody, but this diet makes me so freeken mad! Did you know that Dr. Atkins died of heart disease? This is the most horrific diet ever created. It is horrible for your health and it should NOT BE DONE!!!! Humans are NOT carnivores. We actually are herbavores with the ability to digest meat, it is an ability we evolved during a time in the past of starvation. But our primary food source should be now, and has always been plants. There have been studies to show that the Atkins diet causes mood swings, and aggressive behavior because it literally starves the brain. The brain uses 1/5 of our total energy, and it runs off of, not protien, but carbohydrates. You starve yourself of carbs, you literally starve your brain. Humans NEED carbs, it is our primary source of energy. Good carbs are those found in fruit, bananas, pears, watermelon, etc. Bad carbs are Twinkees, Oreos, etc. Good carbs (fruit and veggies) = good, weight loss, healthy and long life No carbs (meat, meat, and more meat) = TEMPORARY wieght loss, heart disease, diebeties, (eventually death) etc. Bad carbs (Tweekies and Hoo Hoo's) = fat If you want to do a drastic diet, go the healthy way and become a fruitarian. Please, don't kill yourself on the Atkins diet. Horrible, horrible, horrible diet. Please, for your own health, do not do that diet. |

I am breastfeeding my 5 month old son still, almost exclusivly, and still no periods. I like that! I do give him solids, but not enough to replace any feedings. He gets no formula. Breastfeeding rocks! I had no idea that I would loose so much weight doing it either, a very nice side benefit. I have lost almost 30 pounds now. |

Actually, I am still exclusively breastfeeding. Baby wont take a bottle and he is not eating solids yet. I was 205 just before giving birth. I lost 20lbs when I gave birth, and my baby was only 6lbs even! Want to loose 20lbs in 1 day? Give birth, it works!!! |

| Ha ha, I hear about people who try to get pregnant for months, and I just can't believe it.
I had one mistake...ONE ACCIDENT! It was the only mistake I have ever made in my entire life, and I have been sexually active for 13 years. Well sort of, on and off, it is a long story. I will go for 2 to 3 years, then have sex like once, then go for another 2 to 3 years with no sex. Like my friend here at work says, when I have an accident, I make it good. |

| Actually, I believe that obesity is due to the over consumption of meat and refined products. Meat is everywhere! Yuk, if you are a person who doesn't like meat, you are screwed!
But then again, there are vegans who are overweight, so maybe it is more along the lines of processed foods, especially fast food. But I agree that everything in moderation is the way to go. Anything is excess is bad for you. |

| People here have some real good ideas. I will add one of my own, maybe not so good, maybe better. But I made black bean burgers, I can't see why you couldn't turn those into black bean balls instead. Here is the recipie:
Shoot! I can't find the recipie that I used, it was delicious! I think they took it off the website. Well here is another recipie, but I have never tried it before: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=4812.0 But I have had good luck with this particular website, almost everything I have tried has been delicious. |

| I am really not so sure about the "cats are carnivores, therefore they cant eat a vegan diet" thing. I had my cats on the Evolution diet for awhile. It is claimed to be 100% vegan, and provide 100% nutrition for your cats. They did really well on it. As far a taurine, it said that this was synthetically and vegan derived and added into the food. But the problem with that is it is so expensive. Their coats got really glossy and soft, and their poop didn't smell near as bad. And they seemed perfectly fine with it. In fact, Shango really liked it a lot and preferred it over regular dry cat food. | |||

| Ugh, that is aweful! I know my son is going to respect animals! I saw some kids one time, I thought they were kicking around a hacky sack, when I got closer I saw it was a frog, it was dead. I was mad, but what could I do about it? With my kid, who is still in my belly, if I ever see him hurting an animal, whether it's a worm, or one of my cats, he is going to get a whomp in the butt, and time out in the corner. I will not tolerate animal abuse! | |||
| Pregnancy & Parenting | How did you or your doctor determine your due date? | Apr 10 2008 15:58 (UTC) |
3 |
| Yes, the doctors go by first day of your last period. My problem was, I only had a vague idea of when that was. I know it was like around December 15 somewhere, but I couldn't remember exactly when. But I knew EXACTLY when baby was concieved because I had had only one accident. So as you may guess, the date that the ultra sound gave as my due date, and the date that the pregnancy calculators you find online that can calculate from your date of conception where exactly the same. September 23. | |||
| Vegetarian | Tunafish! | Apr 09 2008 23:15 (UTC) |

| Yes, that is it. I read in an article that RDA requirement are near impossible to keep up with, and even the RDA admits that. Those levels are set for those with problems absorbing neutrients, which isn't most people. | |||

| Don't eat tuna, too much mercury. I stopped eating it immediately when I found out that the mercury in tuna can give my unborn child autism. I want my baby to be healthy. If it can do that to a fetus, what can it do to me?
But I do need lots of protein as well. I get my protein mainly from beans and soy products. But really, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the RDA. What they suggest is way overboard. There is an international one instead, can't remember the name, that is more realistic. But if you want more protein, eat more beans and soy. Much more healthy. |

| I feel sorry for young teenagers who have weight problems. As you get older, weight becomes more and more of an issue the older you get. If you have a weight problem in your teens doesn't that mean that the issue is just gonna get worse?
I mean, when I was 13 I was so thin I was damn near transparent, now I am 30 and a whopping 40lbs over weight. |

| Ha, you can't do that on Television used to be my favorite show, but that was when I was like 5.
I was a teenager in the 90's. I am not sure if somebody already mentioned this but we used to take the base of our jeans, fold them over very tight then roll them up. Is that what is called cuffed jeans? Looked so dorky, but all the girls were doing it. Also somebody mentioned hypercolor shirts, I totally forgot about those. Those were actually pretty cool, why don't they still have them? |

| Also, somebody mentioned that it is better for a woman to be a polygomist relationship than to have a childless/husbandless life.
I say, who says that? I have been single and childless for years, planned on staying that way for years, until I f****ed up and got pregnant. I am perfectly happy single and childless. Nothing to hold me down, no one to tell me what to do, I love being single. And I totally intend to let dad be the main care taker of this child, I still don't want children, but I am very lucky that he wants a child more than anything. He is a wonderful man, but I would never want to marry him. I never inteneded to have sex with him if we hadn't both been drunk off our asses. |

| Actually, it is black and white, if one person is over 18, sleeps with another person, who is under 18, it is considered stachitory rape, and that is illegal, simple as that.
As far as the catholic church not believing in birth control, that is fine for them, but I hate the way the force others to bend their way. Example, I read once about a lady who had a...what are they called...IUD? (The thing made of copper that goes in the uterous and prevents pregnancy). Anyway, she had one of these installed, went to a catholic hospital to have her appendix removed. After her sergery she found out that they had removed her IUD as well because it was a method of birth control. Now I am not sure, but I don't think those things are cheap, and she is lucky she found out about it before having sex with her husband and getting pregnant. She had another one put in. That story just made me so mad. |

| The Lounge | okay, so im really hesitant, but i have a question about going to the psychologist at at school.EDIT: one more question!!! | Apr 09 2008 21:41 (UTC) |

| Why would you be embarrased that you may have a mental illness? It doesn't mean that you can't live a normal happy life. But I would be careful being diagnosed with one, it may effect some things in your life.
For example, my dream is to get my commercial pilots liscence, move to Alaska to become a bush pilot. For that I would need a class 2 FAA medical certificate. I have been diagnosed with bipolar II disorder, and I talked to the FAA doctor and asked if it would be possible for me to get my medical certification. She said maybe, it is a case by case basis, so now I am really regretting going to the doctor and getting that diagnosis for bipolar II, I may have destroyed my life-time dream by doing so. I can still get my private pilots liscence, but I may not be able to be a bush pilot like I always dreamed of. True, you probably don't want to get a pilot's liscnece, but I am sure there are other things that it may be a red mark for you. If you can get by on therapy, without a diagnosis, do that instead. I don't even think I have bipolar II, that is the kicker. I think the doctor just wanted to charge me more and make me buy medicine that provided by a company that supports her practice. It sucks, I hope, oh I hope I can get my class 2 medical certificate! don't make the same mistake I did...*slinks away to cry in a corner for broken dreams* |

| Wow, and another example of what the other thread said: "crankiness".
Personally, I declaw my cats, clipping their claws doesn't help that much. Whenever I had any of my cats declawed, they never seemed to be in pain afterwords. But there is a lazer method, and a cutting method, if you can find a vet to do the lazer method, it is much better, seems less painfull, and they are healed almost instantly. But this is a debate nobody is going to win because both sides have good points. |

| I am sorry, but it just seems to me that men will look for any excuse to sleep with as many women as they can, they can't help it, it is their instint, they want to spread their genetics.
But if polygamy was intended by nature, there would be a lot more girls born than boys, but as it is, the mixture is very close to 50/50. I think polygamy is disgusting and degrading, even though it has some positive points, but how is it possible. Women tend to get very jealous if their men sleep with other women. I just don't think polygamy is natural. |

Sorry, I can't help you with your floppy disk question, I have no idea bout this one, doesn't sound good though. |

Also, did any of you read the book Jupiter? I think that was what it was called. It is a book about how life was discovered on Jupiter, they invented some kind of a super sheilded ship that could go down into Jupiter's atmosphere and there was all kinds of life living there, including some intellegent whale - like life forms. I LOVED that book. |
