| Weight Loss | Is a 920 calorie deficit to high? | May 14 2008 20:23 (UTC) |

| It's hard to say. You don't have a lot to lose which will make this process that much harder. Those last 10 pounds are hell...I have been going at them for about 8 years now. I get off a few and then they come back like nothing. There could be several things, like exchangin fat for muscle. Have you always done strength training? I build muscle like a man, so even though I weight train often, if I have a heavy weight training day, then I can expect to see it on the scale immediately the next day and my body looks fatter because the muscles are buldging. It's good to make the deficit around 500 for those last few pounds because you are edging right on the 1200 net margin and then things get a bit sticky. Make sense? Hope this helps. | |||

| Maybe a shock to scare him. Show him some obesity shows or medical journals of what he could potentially come in a few years if he doesn't make some changes. Maybe the reality of a short life span will change something. There was a story on aol today about a man that lost 518 lbs...he was over 1200 lbs. He said he was big as a child and just kept eating. If you educate him, give him the healthy options, and then show him what could happen...that is all you can do. He is his own person and this is a decision he needs to make on his own. | |||
| Weight Loss | Your fine they way you are... | May 13 2008 14:16 (UTC) |

| I know just how you feel. I too am 5'7" and weight 140. A couple years ago I lost 10 pounds and got to my goal weight of 130. I have never felt more confident and better about my body. I too am very curvy with 41" hips and a 26" waist. I don't mind being curvy, but I looked so much better at 130 than I do know. I have been struggling to get back there and I just can't seem to break 136.
Ignore what these people are saying. You would not be unheathly at 130. People get annoyed at me when I diet and say the same things. But you won't be happy in life and relationships unless you are first happy with yourself. |

| Weight Loss | Is it normal to lose the first couple of days then stop? | May 13 2008 14:12 (UTC) |
|
| It's normal for some peopl to lose within the first few days, mainly because you are eating less. When I eat normally, I weigh the same thing to the ounce everyday. When I drop my calories, within the first few days I see a loss. Mostly it has to do wtih less sodium intake so you are retaining less water and you are eating fewer foods so you have less food weight in your digestive tract. Don't get discouraged. | |||
| Weight Loss | alli... | May 13 2008 13:11 (UTC) |

| Actually, GI-Jane, Alli is the first commercial diet pill that is FDA approved. The original in prescription strength and can only be prescribed by the doctor. They reduced the mg available and made it safe for OTC.
As far as working, I am not sure. I know it inhibits the absorption of some fat and carbs, but then it will also inhibit the absorption of some nutrients as well so you need to make sure what you are eating is very good for you. |

| Weight Loss | What is the best scale? | May 06 2008 17:15 (UTC) |

| most home scales are a little off in the weight. I would go by the Drs weight. The fat % scales give higher numbers for girls and lower numbers for guys. They aren't the best. | |||
| Foods | Thoughts on soda? | May 06 2008 17:12 (UTC) |
16 |
| One soda once in a while isn't going to destroy your diet. When I first started dieting a while back, I loved pepsi. I had to have tons everyday. I tried diet and thought it was disgusting. Someone told me to stick with diet for a week and I would never go back. They were right. I cannot even stand reg soda now. I drink one diet a day with lunch. The bubbles help you feel fuller so you don't eat as much lunch. This is the meal I tend to go overboard with. | |||

| It's hard but boring because you do the same video. There are actually three videos in the bunch. The first is a short 30-40 minute induction video you do for 4-7 days. Then you move the next for a few weeks which is about 45 min long then to the last which is an hour until the end of the program.
I didn't like all the focus being on the bottom half. There is a short segment on arms, but not enough to balance the body. The majority of the video focuses on the legs but if you have big legs already, they are just going to get bigger and make your body look out of proportion. Good luck on your weight loss. You have to do the meals with the program and not the program alone. |

| Weight Loss | breakfast | May 05 2008 18:45 (UTC) |

| Kashi has 190 calories per serving. It is filling for me because it is whole grain. A lot of the lower cal cereals are not whole grain so they break down quicker in the system and thus you are hungrier sooner. | |||
| Weight Loss | breakfast | May 05 2008 14:29 (UTC) |

| If the cereal isn't whole grain, such as cheerios or kashi, then stay away from it. While the sugary, yummy cereals are low calorie, they only make you hungrier and you have to eat more to fill up. You did better today with the yogurt, egg beaters, and grapefruit. You can have a serving of whole grain cereal with the yogurt or with the egg beaters. Or try putting some kashi crunch cereal in your yogurt. Having the protein, dairy, and whole grains together will help you feel satisfied and not wanting more. Save something for a mid-morning snack. That is usually the longest people go during awake hours without eating...b-fast to lunch. | |||

| Ug, I do know exactly what you mean. I am currently 5'7" and I waiver between 135-138 lbs. Now, you ask any other woman out there that fits the height and weight descriptions and she will tell you she wears a 4-6 pants and looks thin. I have a body similar to yours. Right now my BMI is healthy at 21 and some change. If I lost 10 pounds my but would look nicer and I would be able to fit into a size 6 (currently a size 8). I love my body from the waist up and the knees down. I am actually pretty toned and have a low body fat %. But, that is also because they don't take any of those measurments around the hip section. I have tried for years and years to get 10 lbs off so I would "look" like the other women my size. It just hasn't happened. I have tried everything...every diet you name it! Maybe us big bottom girls were meant to be the way we are...but I don't like to think that way. You just have to hang in there and what works for others is not going to work for us. Good luck! | I too am a PB addict. Nice to meet you all...
I just bought PB2 and plain it is EH but if you put it on something (ie bread, crackers, etc) it tastes the same as PB. When I shovel it in alone, I mix in some splenda to help boost the taste a smidge. |

| Weight Loss | Complicated Question... | Jun 01 2007 14:33 (UTC) |

| You could always take in high calorie healthy items...such as a banana has 100 calories or 2tbsp of PB has almost 200 calories...things like that will help keep it up...
my son is on a medication that causes his appetite to decrease and at times I almost have to shove food down him because he won't eat...try and take your medication early as you can so that the loss of appetite goes away sooner in the day if possible. Sunny |

| Weight Loss | who and when came up with the idea of eating back cals? | Jun 01 2007 14:09 (UTC) |
41 |
| Okay...I am going to add my thoughts...I agree with you all...I was floored when I first was looking at this site and yes I posted many questions asking why in the hesk you eat back the calories...I thought one of the main reasons was for health and weight loss...BUT...I thought what the heck, I have nothing to lose but weight!
I only have 10 pounds to lose so it doesn't come off easy. I have been trying to lose these 10 pounds for about 5 years now...I have tried weight watchers, nutrisystem, atkins, etc, etc, etc. I abided by the 1200 calorie/day thing and exercised daily and could not for the life of me figure why I wasn't losing. I would get so frustrated, quit, and then pick up with another diet. I tried it...I religiously logged my calories in here, logged my activities, and kept my deficit between 400 and 500 calories/day. Well wouldn't you know that after 5 days I lost 1.6 pounds. I was so happy! I was jumping around my house and everything (yes my kids looked at me as though their mother has just lost it). I am now only 3 weeks in but I have lost just under 3 lbs...and that's 3 lbs that all those other diets couldn't give me. I don't deprive myself...I LOVE chocolate (just had a snickers), but I log everything and keep my deficit at the recommended interval. I don't know who came up with this concept either and have never heard of this until a few weeks ago but it works and I'm not starving!! Sunny |

| I have a spreadsheet just because it helps to look at that instead of clicking through the history on the website. I can post so those of you who want can use it for themselves. The formulas are already in the sheet you can just tailor make it your own...
BUT I don't know how to attach it here. Sunny |

| Weight Loss | I want to control the calories my 8 year old consume per day | May 30 2007 08:26 (UTC) |
|
| I have a 5 and a 7 year old. I am concerned about them having weight issues when they get older. I watched a TV special that basically stated adult eating habits are formed when you are a child. So I took that and ran with it. I by no means restrict what my kids eat, instead I educate them on whats healthy. If they ask for ice cream, I say lets have yogurt because its better for your body. People are amazed that my kids don't eat junk and don't drink soda...and they rarely ask for it. On occasion I let them have these things as a treat. But their main source of food comes from the pyramid just like you should eat. They eat a ton of fruit, veggies, fresh meat, and whole grains. And yet they never complain. Yes I do let them have their pizza and diet soda a few times a month but not daily or even weekly.
Basically, if you are concerned about your childs weight, you shouldn't be. You should focus on her health and teach her healthy eating habits. My oldest often asks me before he eats something if it's healthy. He went to a slumber party one time and the parent took them to McDonalds. I was fine with this because it was a treat situation. The parent told me the next day he ordered a chicken salad. He loves salad and eats it often. But a growing child should not have their calories restricted. Sunny |

| Weight Loss | Today, I ate 800 calories and ... | May 28 2007 20:20 (UTC) |
5 |
| soniaj1025-I can see how you can eat 800 calories per day and not be hungry. When I was in highschool, I used to skip breakfast (because I wanted to sleep later) and lunch because I just didn't want to eat cafeteria food. So when I got home, I would eat something and then I would eat dinner. My body got used to this and I was never hungry until like 4 in the afternoon....HOWEVER...this is not heatlthy at all. You should like what you are eating and at what times. Because if you are not eating breakfast, your metabolism hasn't really woken up for the day yet. If you eat breakfast, you will hungrier throughout the day and able to get in the essential 1200 calories. Also, you could try adding a tablespoon of PB...that will help raise the calories.

| Weight Loss | Dieting Problem? | May 21 2007 09:29 (UTC) |

| You are definitely not eating enough calories. You need to consume at a minimum of 1200 calories/day. If you are exercising you can eat more. Some people will say yes and some will say no so it is really up to you.
Your food is processing through your system fast because your metabolism is increasing which is a good thing. Keeping a meal to around 300-350 calories is good you just need to eat more...try 3 meals and a few snacks. Regardless of whether or not your are hungry, you still need to eat more. This should help with the dizziness and whatnot. sunny |

| Fitness | Hip problem, can anyone relate? | May 18 2007 11:56 (UTC) |
1 |
| I actually have hip bursitis as well. The ibprofen isn't generally for pain as much as it is an anti-inflamatory. When I first got it, I was in pain all the time, just sitting in the car and the jostling of the vehicle had me in tears. I've had it for about 8 years now. The first few months of having it were rough. I don't know if I have just gotten used to the feeling but I normally only have a flare up now about 3 times a year and they are nothing compared to what they were when I first got it.
When I have a flare up, I try to do low impact cardio with lots and lots of stretching before and after. Sometimes when I am running I will start to have pain. I just take it down a notch and it usually holds it off. Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do for this much like arthritis. Just take anti-inflamatories and don't go so hard when you have a flare up. Sunny |

| Fitness | How can I improve my weekly workout routine? | May 18 2007 11:38 (UTC) |
1 |
| If you have been doing this routine for 5 months then you need to change it up. You body tends to get "used" to a workout after 3-4 weeks. No doubt it has been helping but if you want to kick start it you need to change it. Incorporate all your muscles, not just the ones you would like to have larger because the more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism is going to move.
Also, I agree with bodyscience on the abs. You don't have to do them everyday but you can because they are a very resilient muscle. Are you doing just 100 regular cruches or are the varied (i.e. obliques, reverse, etc). Riahekans...every body is different...some people can do proper crunches until the cows come home while others struggle to get through 20. It just depends on your genetics. Sunny |

| I am a taebo addict. I am one of those people that have to be so tired at the end of a work out or else I don't think it helped. Every Tae bo video I have done gives this to me. A lot of the newer ones incorporate the bands. I don't want to have too much muscle (I build it like a man) so I only do them with the bands occasionally but they still kick my butt without them and that's what I like!!
