Vegetarian help a new vegan=] Aug 30 2007

I used to be vegan. It's a good way to eat, just make sure you don't only eat carbs. Make sure you take multi-vitamins too, it's even hard for non-veg people to get all they need.

A lot of breakfast cereals these days have most, sometimes even all, of the b-12 that you need a day. So, have a bowl of cereal with some soymilk for breakfast.
Maintaining MUTE Aug 30 2007

I'm only 16, so I kind of feel weird giving you advice since you're older. But, I just started maintaining my weight too, so I'll tell what's been working for me.

Each week add about 100-200 cal more. You normally eat 1200 cal, so go a week on 1300-1400. Then the Next week go up to 1400-1500. If you go slowly, you won't gain back the weight.

Keep exercising. It's good for your body and keeps your muscles strong so you won't get flabby. But eat something after your workout that will replenish what you just burned. Something with protein in it is good so your muscles can repair.

Don't worry if you gain a couple pounds the first couple days, it's probably just water weight and will go away when your body gets used to eating more. :) Just remember not to exceed your BMR.

I really like cottage cheese, it's very low cal. A 100 cal, 1/2 cup serving has 13 grams of protein. I also eat beans, egg whites, and nuts.
Vegetarian Low GI and Vegetarian Aug 28 2007

I eat low GI and vegetarian. I've done the South Beach Diet as a vegetarian too, so it definatly is possible. I think it's really good for vegetarians to eat low GI, alot of people seem to just load up on starch when they don't eat meat.

I do love pasta though. But, I discovered soy pasta. It's made from soy, so it's protein and not starch. It tastes a little different, but I love it. They also have Dreamfields pasta which tastes the same as normal pasta, but it's very low GI.

Yeah, I heard about that in the Hungry Girl newsletter awhile ago. Scary how they have to make even a veggie burger unhealthy. I always get salad at restaurants.
Foods Yogurt vs Fruit Aug 21 2007

If the yogurt has sugar added to it, it's not really all that healthy. You could try plain yogurt with fruit or if you don't like that, something like Dannon Light and Fit which uses splenda to make it sweet. I find a lot of sweetened yogurt to have the same amount of calories and sugar content as ice cream. Yikes! All yogurt will have some sugar content though, from the lactose (milk sugar) or if they add fruit there will be some more sugars as well.

Sounds yummy and healthy since it's not fried.

I like air popped popcorn with curry powder or red pepper sprinkled on it.
Weight Loss "Eat any/everything you want one day out of the week" diet? Jul 27 2007

It would be easier to just not have the cheat day. After a few days of not eating sweets and junk, your body stops craving it. If you eat it for just one day, it'll bring back the cravings.

America is the place with the huge restaurant portions. I'm not sure if Europe is the same, but I think they give reasonable sized meals. Just fill up on salad with small amounts of dressing and clear soups. At dinner eat lean proteins and vegetables, if you can get meals without starch. No rice, pasta, or potatos on the side. They might have fruit for dessert. On Italian cooking shows I've seen them add a little liquer to a bowl of fruit and serve that as a dessert.
Weight Loss I am eating about 1400 calories a day, and it is only my 3rd day but I am soo hungry... Jun 29 2007

Lean Cuisine pizzas are really yummy. The cheese ones are 400 calories for the whole pizza. It's a pretty big pizza too, I can only eat half, but I usually have a side salad with it.

Always eat a side salad before lunch or dinner. Just make sure you use a low calorie dressing, like a light vinaigrette. I like to mix 1/3 cup vinegar like wine or balsamic with a couple tablespoons of oil. Add some herbs if you want and mix it and add about a tbs to your salad. Very yummy and healthy.

When you get a bad craving drink a really big glass of water and go do something far away from food for about 20 minutes. It should go away. If you still have a craving though, it means you're hungry.

Great job! I've been trying to kick the 600 calorie a day habit. So far, I've made it a whole week getting at least 1200 calories. :) I hope I can keep it up, but it's hard. I feel inspired now. I hope I can get out of my plateau.

Almonds are good. They're protein so they're filling and healthy. Eat a small handful about a 1/4 cup if you want to measure.

Try making a sorbet. I like it with mango or nectarine. In a blender put in a peice of fruit, some ice, and a teaspoon of sugar or splenda. Even if you use real sugar it's about 70-90 calories depending on what kind of fruit you use.
Vegetarian help my daughter wont eat meat Jun 16 2007

Yeah, a big mistake is for her to fill up on carbs. I decided to become a vegetarian when I was 12. My mom told me to cook my own food and that's when I learned to cook.

If your daughter doesn't like soy products, try buying nuts and beans. Baby carrots are really yummy with some hummus. Almonds, peanuts, and cashews are good as snacks.

My one suggestion about keeping your daughter from gaining weight is to take all the food that is making her gain out of the house. It'll probably make the rest of your family healthier too.

Try finding South Beach Diet cook books at your library. The diet has vegetarian alternatives that are low glycemic index and very good. They're not weird hippie foods either. See is she likes the sound of any of them.
Foods Diet Frozen dinners Jun 16 2007
04:37 (UTC)
I love the low calorie frozen dinners. I hate cooking from a recipe and then having to throw most of it out since most recipes are a ton of food for one person.

I usually half of a Lean Cuisine pizza dinner with a side salad. Very yummy. :)
Weight Loss I eat 700 calories a day and i feel good Jun 14 2007

I've been there before. I ate no more than 600 calories a day. I never felt hungry, I had a ton of energy, I lost weight. No problem right?

Give yourself a few weeks, you'll feel exhausted. You won't be able to exercise any more. I've been trying to ease myself into eating normally for a while now. It's hard. Get out of the habit of eating so little now. It's much easier to do it when you start than later.
Foods Suggestions for low calorie foods that you can eat a lot of? Jun 14 2007

I'm a snacker as well. But I've found a lot of foods that I can substitute for unhealthy snacks.

Instead of chips, try some veggies like bell pepper, celery, or carrots. You can eat them with your favorite chip dip or hummus. Very yummy.

I like dannon light and fit yogurt. It's only 60 calories. They've got good fruit flavors and some yummy dessert type flavors too. My favorites are White Chocolate Rasberry and Cherry Vanilla.

Edy's No Sugar Added Whole Fruit popsicles are the best sugar free popsicles I've had. They're 30 cal and made with real juice. Occassionally you'll find chunks of fruit in them.
Weight Loss So I'm going to try eating more. But I'm scared. Jun 10 2007
03:31 (UTC)
I'm going through the same thing. Lately, as in three days ago, I decided to icrease my caloric intake. I'd beeen eating withing 300-600 calories a day. (Yes, I know I have a problem, I'm trying to take control of it.) I'm trying to make myself eat ate least 1200 calories, though what I should eat to maintain is 1700. It's hard, but I want to try and make myself healthy again.

I know how scary it is, you feel liek you're going to gain 20 pounds from that extra 500 calories you're eating in a day. You did a great job losing 28 pounds, if you eat the equal amount as your BMR, you won't gain weight. The more you eat without going over will actually make your metabolism better, which I know is very hard to make yourself believe. I hope that you can get through this. :)
Weight Loss Target Daily Calories Jun 02 2007

Probably, but if you ate 1750 calories of ice cream, cookies, and other junk food you'd become malnourished because you wouldn't get the proper amount of nutrients. Try eat healthy foods instead of just junk. Plus, a lot of healthy foods are lower in cal, grilled chicken is lower in cal than fried chicken, so you could probably eat more throughout your day. But if you eat mostly healthy food and then have like one dessert or treat in your day without going over your cal limit, then I'm sure you'd be healthy.

I'm 5'3 too! I'd hate being super tall, but I hate how chunky I can look when I weigh very little. I weigh 109 pounds but my legs are hugely chunky. If I were taller, I'd look so much leaner. Hopefully with ten more pounds gone I'll look thin.
Weight Loss what are the effects of not eating lunch? May 31 2007
02:27 (UTC)

You probably ate too much later in the day. Dinner should be your smallest meal and you shouldn't eat anything 3 hours before going to bed.

Instead of skipping lunch, just make all of your meals smaller. Eat 3 small meals and a couple small snacks a day. You'll lose weight and if you eat less but more frequently, you won't get hungry and won't binge.

I've got an ed as well, though I'm not ready to recover yet. I know people that have though. It's difficult and you'll probably need professional help to do it. I know how hard it is to live with an ed. I hope you are able to overcome it.

Like people have said, do what you can. Maybe you could talk to your doctor and he/she could help you find some way to exercise.
