mrsgabriellejonas, i believe you are a genius! Everytime i eat, I am going to act like I am OUT to eat. This means napkin in the lap, lighting candles, an extra glass of wine ;), SITTING DOWN, using utensils... anything to create a restaurant atmosphere. This may just be the solution. Thank you! |

wow wow wow, every1 is doing so well! Congrats! Simono- your weightloss achievements are amazing, how does it feel to have gone from being nearly 170 to 145? Can you feel and see a major difference? Both kaet and I are trying to get down to 145...(can't wait to get there). I'm a bit sick of exercising, however. I prefer to do more relaxed exercise, like pilates or taking a walk. What is everyone else doing for exercise? |

Morning everyone! After 2 days of awful eating, i still weigh the same (phew!) haha i feel as though I am living proof that you CAN increase your calories for a day or 2 every week and not necessarily see weight gain. Anyways, enough **** eating for me. I am back on the healthy track and counting my cals. Cheers! |

welcome all! I won't be with you much longer b.c i leave to travel europe for 6 weeks this thursday, but in the meantime i decided i would introduce myself. I am 5'9.5" and as of this morning I weigh 153lbs. I have similar goals as kaet-- i want to get down to 145lbs and from there I will see how I feel. Yesterday and today I have fallen a bit off the wagon, but i am determined to get back on track until I leave. Welcome, and good luck! |

oh iam beating myself up over it. I have completely BLOWN my diet today. I ate a bunch of chips this afternoon along with a granola bar. I am not even hungry. I know why I am eating like this too-- my boyfriend is interning in new york city this summer, so i only get to see him on the weekends. Every freakin monday ( we say goodbye on sunday nights), i BINGE and usually on unhealthy things. I go from feeling on top of the world to the bottom of it-- especially this time around because i won't be seeing him for 7 weeks b.c i leave for europe this thrus. I wouldn't feel so bad if i hadn't increased my cals yesterday. o well. okay, there is no sense in wallowing over this. The calories have already been consumed and all i can do is focus on being active and productive for the rest of the day. I am also very tired from the weekend, so overall this is not the best monday I could have asked for. |

How has every1 been doing. It has been a full week since I started watching what I eat and I am down 1.4 lbs. Yesterday (sunday) i went way over my caloric intake--i had been restricting my calories all week, so i wanted to really up them this day (i have heard it's good to do that when trying to lose weight). Anyway, this is all fine until i woke up this morning and decided to continue my uncontrolled eating. I had a normal 280 cal bfast, plus 2 cups of O.J, plus 2 SLICES OF PIZZA! This will not get me anywhere if i continue down this path. I need to get my butt back in gear and regain my focus...which i will do as soon as i have digested this food. SO FULL. Do you guys set weekly goals? Or do you just take it day by day? Happy monday everyone! |

ate well again today! I am going to try and make it to the gym but i literally "shopped till i dropped" today and feel exhausted. My only motivation is, obviously, feeling better and tonight will be the last time i can work out until next monday. When i say "workout" i mean: really sweat. |

nice to meet you kaetlynm! so nice to meet and be motivated by people that have similar goals and statistics as you. I am actually going to be traveling throughout Europe-- i leave next thursday and i was hoping to get down to 150 before i go. I will be traveling for 6 weeks. I feel like i will be so active there with walking around and such that the last 5 pounds will come off easy. I am going to see how i look and feel at 145. If i feel like i can still lose that extra 5lbs, i will, but there is no real urgency right now. Congratulations on your weight loss thus far. It is so exciting to hear success stories. |

I'm doing so well today. I decided that i needed to start treating my body better at some point, so i figured i'd start today. I'm focusing on portion size and choosing better food options. I have also, within that past year, realized that i eat best when i have breakfast. This prevents me from consuming as much later in the day. Hopefully i'll be able to keep this up! |

i do that EXACT same thing. I kicked this habit for a while by eating dinner a little later (around 8:30). Try having a small snack around 5, like a few cheese and crackers or a biscuit and tea to hold you over till a later hour. Also, i found watching online episodes of my favorite shows helped pass the time until my later dinner. I wouldn't be eating and I would be enjoying myself and relaxing and then also enjoy my dinner at 8:30 or 9. There is nothing an afternoon tea can't fix! |

Diet is KEY in weight loss. I have absolutely experienced what you are experiencing. But once i control my caloric intake, the weight comes off. Walking and doing an occasional sweat-worthy workout is always beneficial, however. |

| Weight Loss | YES, i need to diet, but starting is the hardest part. | Jun 23 2009 01:25 (UTC) |

I would like to start by eating 1 meal for bfast, lunch, and dinner: having 1 serving of foods instead of 3 or 4 servings of that food. I want to enjoy this food, eat it slowly, and feel it fueling my body. eating too much often has a negative affect and can slow me down rather than energizing me. When i was living in argentina for 5 months i really learned how to relax, slow down, and appreciate life. I appreciated the food i ate, the walks i went on, the nap i would take, social hours etc. After being back in the states for a full year i have slowly fallen back into american habits. I constantly feel rushed and stressed and rarely stop to realize how lucky I am. |

hey guys! I am 5' 9.5" and weigh 155ish, age 22. My goal weight is 145/140lbs depending on how i feel. I was so happy to have found this post. It's easy to talk openly, honestly, and in a motivational manner to others who are of similar heights and weights. How long have you all been dieting and how many pounds have u lost? Have you discovered any successful weightloss tricks? I think i will expand on this post a little bit more to let u other tall-heads know why i want to lose weight. Like many of you, i do not look overly obese- i also hold my weight well because I am tall. I am fairly muscular but have some chub. I want to lose weight because right now i feel AWFUL. I am just finishing up that time of the month, have been eating awfully and stuffing myself which is the worst, and, to top it all off, i just got a heinous hair cut making me feel so far from "cute". I am starting my "diet" tomorrow (mon), meaning i will have to step on the scale which I am DREADING. but i know once i see results it will be worth it. I would like to be below 155 by this thursday. I need to start treating my body right. I exercise a fair bit s what i really need to focus on is portion control and eating the right things. Gosh, i am dreading stepping on that scale. ... |

| Weight Loss | Question for 5'9" - 5'10" females | Jun 21 2009 20:18 (UTC) |

u try my best to listen to my body but often find that i end up eating when I am not hungry. On low cal days i may end up eating between 1200 and 1400 cals. Most days i end up around the 2000 mark but i still don't feel i have found a number at which i can comfortably (as in getting a little hungry before meals, but feeling satisfied by then end of the day) lose weight. I find that on days i eat fewer cals, i end up exceeding 2000 cals the next day. It's this type of constant natural "yo-yo". It's frustrating overall. I'm good at maintaining, just not at losing. |

I am right there with you when it comes to big dinners. Sometimes I can easily rack up 1,000 cals just at dinner alone! ESP when eating out. To eat this many calories in one sitting seems absolutely horrendous to me, but i'll be the 1st to admit that it happens. I have only recently upped my physical activity in an attempt to lose the few extra pounds i'd like to shed. Normally i prefer to do moderate to light activity about 3 times a week, which normally includes taking a leisurely walk with my dog, maybe jogging a bit, or doing some pilates. Occasionally i like to sweat, but mostly i prefer relaxing forms of exercise. I think i was down to 145lbs at one point last summer and boy did i feel FABULOUS! I would love to see that number again and feel that good! I would be extremely satisfied at that weight, even though i don't mind where i am at now. |

This is the kind of thing i need to hear. It is so easy to throw yourself WAY off track just by opening the snack cabinet. Good work 5327! I have been off the band wagon lately. I know, it's been my own fault, but this past week i just can't seem to say no :( I am trying to brainstorm ways to keep focused. Mainly to keep my mind OFF food and on other things that make me happy. If you or anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know. I am in dire need of some motivation. |

| Weight Loss | birth control and not losing weight | Jan 15 2009 19:17 (UTC) |

| ugh this really kills me. I ALSO experienced weight gain while on the pill. Not a huge amount, but definitely a good 5-10lbs. Once i went off if it, i lost all that weight within a WEEK. yes, a single week. AND i was on a low dose. The low dose was not curing my cramps so i have now been placed on a higher dose. I begin this sunday and am fearing what the side effects might be. I think it's time they come out with a birth control for men. I am trying to prepare myself to challenge this weight gain when i begin my new birth control. I will have to be much more aware of what i put into my mouth which sucks, but it is a sacrifice i need to make. I don't want my boobs nor my waistline to balloon out. Don't get me wrong, i have a bunch of friends who have also not experienced weight gain from the pill. However, i also know people who have. In response to the female who posted this topic, the pill might have something to do with your weight gain, but also consider where this weight has gone. A lot of time a portion of the weight gain goes to your boobs. If anything you get some curves. I can imagine that at a petite 119 you probably look better with a couple more pounds on you. | |||

| Weight Loss | what's better juice or diet soda??? | Jan 14 2009 16:35 (UTC) |

| i gave up caffeine for lent one year(coffee, teas, caffeinated sodas) and lost about 5 pounds without changing anything else in my diet or exercise routine. I definitely lost any bloat I was carrying. I still drink coffee and teas because i enjoy them but i do think juice would be your better option. When i drink juices, i always dilute them with water. I prefer to do this because they are too sweet for me otherwise. | |||

| wow thank you orangejumper- that was a lot of insightful information. To answer your question, I want to live in spain because i studied abroad in argentina and loved the lifestyle and culture there. I have heard great things about barcelona and am hoping to spend some time there and do some traveling after i graduate and before i settle into a permanent job somewhere. The only reason why i ruled out working as an au pair is because I lived with a host family when i was in argentina and would now like to experience living on my own while being abroad. I am hoping to improve upon my spanish knowledge while I am there. There are only slight differences in the pronunciation and forms between castellano de argentina y castellano de espana so I don't think it will be that difficult to adjust. Please, if anyone has done something similar and can offer helpful information, let me know! | |||

yea this probably happens to me about twice a week where i binge on junk food. i'm a good eater in general so i don't think it's because i am lacking calories. i just have a major sweet tooth and a bottomless pit...that needs to develop a bottom. I feel like crap after i eat like this, not only because i just ate a ton on junk, but i actually physically feel sick. my body is obviously telling me to stop loading it with so much sugar. i really just need to start saying "no" more often. i OVER-indulge too often. I'm sure i would feel a hell of a lot better if i strayed away from the junk. |
