| i am a pear too. when i lose weight i feel like its all in my stomach and chest but my thighs are still huge! i found that lots of cardio ((on the elliptical and treadmill)) helped to slim them slightly and using the weight machines, lunges, and squats helped me tone them. | |||

| you sound like you want to be healthy but there is no way that you will be healthy at 90lbs if you are 5'8.
if you want to build muscles you are going to gain weight, since they weigh more than fat. i would seriously reconsider your weight goal but instead stick to the goal of eating healthy and building muscle. |

| Young Calorie Counters | my friends are making me fat! | Jan 31 2008 01:52 (UTC) |

| yeah it's really hard. hanging out and being social always seems to revolve around food. out to dinner, grabbing coffee, snacks at the movies, late night trips to taco bell, etc. it's really hard to not eat when your friends constantly are. i'm not very good about not overindulging when my friends are, i just try to limit myself or think about how i will feel after i'm done ((usually bad about myself)).
if you feel comfortable with your friends let them know you're trying to eat healthy and maybe they'll be considerate. if you can't help it and have to eat something thats not too good for you, just try and do better tomorrow and get a little extra exercise. |

| Young Calorie Counters | The responses I get for dieting... frustrating!! | Jan 28 2008 19:05 (UTC) |
16 |
| this happened to me all the time. so i just didn't really talk about it. people would ask if i'd lost weight and i'd just say i've been trying to eat healthier and work out. not necessarily a yes or no. even people at my work would comment about how i need to stop losing weight and that i was 'getting skinnier everytime i see you' blah blah. it got REALLY annoying.
i don't have much advice except try not to let it get to you...tho i know it's a lt easier said than done. be proud of your accomplishments. =] |

| its most likely just because of your lifestyle change. you are more active now and probably eating less fat than before. i wouldn't worry. i lost mine for 5 months (( which was probably not healthy )) but since its only been a month i think you're good! good job on getting close ot your goal! | |||
| Weight Loss | weird pattern! | Nov 19 2007 05:36 (UTC) |

| i don't really have advice but i wanted to say that i've noticed myself kinda doing the same thing. i did really good at being healthy and i lost a lot of weight this summer, got ot my LW, then went on vacation, then back to school time and halloweed. i kept gaining and gaining. then i started dieting again and i've been losing but i have the feeling once christmas comes i will be back near my LW and then start gaining again.
its a frustrating cycle but i think you just have to keep working through it. when you get happy with yourself it's okay to let yourself eat normal but try to to binge and overcompensate for all the times you didn't eat the crappy food. i think that's what i was doing.. |

| i can totally relate becasue i saw some of my friends for the first time in a month or so and i've been losing weight. they were all commenting on it and asking if i eat. in the span of two days i found out that like 5 of the closest friends ((who aren't all friends with each other)) thought i had an ED. it's actually more hurtful than anything... | |||
| The Lounge | Cruise | Jul 28 2007 04:37 (UTC) |

| my family cruises a lot. i've been on 4 celebrity cruises and they were all AMAZING. my mom has been on 10+ from that cruise line and has never been disappointed. we are going on royal caribbean this summer and i'm really excited for it. they have great ratings.
i've heard carnival is more of a 'fun' ship. more family oriented, if you want something nicer, and a little more high class then celebrity is great. though they are also a wonderful family line. |

i'm 17 and 5'8" too. this site is great for finding information about pretty much anything.
you said that you have access to a gym so i would definetly take advantage of that. my typical workout is: 16 minutes on elliptical-150 calories 12 minutes on stiar master-80 calories 25-30 minutes on treadmill ((incline 8, 4mph))-200 to 250 calories i like to use a couple machines at a time becuase i get bored easily. also for the treadmill i don't like jogging ((becuase i can't do it..lol)) so i always have it at a pretty high incline and walk relatively fast. its the best way to burn lots of calories in the shortest time. you should also do some weight training becuase then you will build muscle which burns more calories when you are just resting. so that's always a plus. =] let me know if you have any other questions && if you ever wanna talk feel free to message me. |

| if you really want it then you can do it. it might not be the easiest thing but when you are reaching for the chocolate you have to think about what you really want, that chocolate or the benefits of being healthy and losing weight.
it's easiest to just start making healthy choices and then adding in exercise. try counting your calories to see how much you normally eat and then lower the number ((keeping it ABOVE 1200, i think for a teen 1400-1600 is generally good)). if you do this you will lose weight. i'm sure that any loss will make a difference and it will be noticed. i started trying to lose weight in april and in june people were noticing and it was only maybe 10lbs. i can't wait to go back in the fall and see what people think. =] you can do this. stay strong. search these forums for advice and tips, they are very helpful. message me if you need to talk, or have questions! |

| it depends if i know what i'm having for dinner ((i'm a teen so it's usually up to my parents)) if i know then i usually calculate dinner and dessert cals then eat whatever i have left. i aim for 1200-1400 a day so usually i eat 600/700 before dinner time. | |||

| Weight Loss | How Many Calories Per Day? | Jul 16 2007 16:27 (UTC) |

| 1000 is too low. your body needs 1200 just to function and anything less than that is harming your body and will just end up hurting you in the long run. eating more (1200+ cals) will help you lose weight in a healthy way and it will be weight that you can keep off. | |||
| Weight Loss | Just starting off. I have a couple of questions. | Jul 16 2007 03:33 (UTC) |

| welcome.
your questions...i think that since you are small any weight loss will be noticeable. you have a little over a month before school, and healthy weight loss is 1-2lbs per week so i guess you could theoreticially lose about 5-10lbs by then. i think that would definetly show. but i'd also say that you don't necessarily have to stop once school starts, even with hard classes and being busy you can keep making healthy choices, and then you'll be able to maintain your new weight and shape.
don't know much about vegetarian diets, and you say you live in turkey so i have no idea about food there. personally i do count calories, and i'm a teenager. i don't know if it's good or bad but it's worked for me so i like it. i can see how it gets unhealthy though...pretzels are an okay snack because they are low in cals and fat, just not everyday becasue they are high in sodium. i LOVE carrots. eat them almost everyday. used to not like them but it's worth it because you can eat a lot for not many calories. and lots of vitamins. peanut butter is good protein, on crackers, or whole wheat bread or whatever. i love peanut butter toast w/ skim milk. one of my favorite breakfasts. an hour on the bike is great! it's definetly aerobic exercise. maybe throw in a few crunches, push ups, or lunges for added muscle work. help you look more fit and firm. sorry i talk a lot, lol, hope some of this was useful! |

| Weight Loss | Women: how do you get rid of the roll under your boobs? | Jul 16 2007 03:15 (UTC) |

| i think that like any other fat on your body it will take cardio to go away. once you start losing weight eventually it will go, it depends on the person where they lose their fat from though. crunches and ab work will help tone the muscle under the fat. | |||
| Weight Loss | can you answer one more calorie question please? | Jul 12 2007 21:41 (UTC) |

| you should eat the 1450 plus whatever you burn. that would keep your deficit the same and therefore have you losing 1.5 pounds a week. it should be healthy and steady weight loss..
good luck! |

| Weight Loss | How much should I weigh? | Jul 12 2007 05:03 (UTC) |

| nobody can really tell you what is best for you. look at your BMI and try to have it in a healthy range. if you need a specific number then you would do best asking your doctor. | |||

| i definetly feel the same way sometimes. i think about my food so much now, what i should eat, what i shouldn't eat. but like you said it is only some days, not all of them...i don't think it's really a bad thing unless it happens everyday and you start restricting or something because of your thoughts.. | |||
| Weight Loss | Help! Two days strong, then crash and burn | Jul 10 2007 05:02 (UTC) |

| it's okay!!
it was only one day, and while this may slow down your weight loss for a short time it isn't going to have any devestating effects. if you gain weight its probably mostly water weight anyway from the sodium in the chinese.
you said that you were starving on the third day, so maybe you weren't eating enough to begin with. make sure that even while you are eating healthy you are getting enough calories for your body to function. good luck with your competition! |

| wow. thank you so much everybody. those responses made me feel really good about myself. i think i am going to aim for 1400 a day now, and see what happens. i'll also focus less on cardio ((because that means i have to eat more, which i'm not as good at...)) and focus more on weights to build muscle. i'm not really sure where i could get my body fat % measured, but i'll keep that in mind. razzledazzle-i'm inspirational? wow. thanks. that's a huge compliment. =] i'm not really sure what tips you are looking for...i just try to eat healthy and count all of my calories. i don't beat myself up for the days when i eat too much because i know that i can make up for it in the next few days...if you have any specific questions or wanna talk just message me. i'm on here a lot. =] thanks again guys!! and any more tips feel free to keep adding! | |||
