| Hey everyone! I was wondering if I could jump on this post to motivate myself with some accoutability. I am currently 5'3'' and 139, similar to a lot of people in this group and I could really use some support. I'm on board to post every Friday! I look forward to getting to know you all better and to being able to work together toward a common goal. Have a happy and healthy memorial day! anetta |

| alittlegirl Congrats on the 5K! That's really awesome! diordnadionarap Yoga on a jetty, that sounds so movie-like. And I aspire to have such a great routine, starting today on making sure I lift every other day. For feeling tired, maybe get a really good sleep, and make sure you are drinking enough water? Hope you get better soon! jetta Stealing your graham cracker idea, sounds so good... And I'm with you on the sucess stories, I need to seek out more of them, they are so great. Have you checked out some of the pictures for before and after on this site? Some of them are really intense. Steph0701 I may be coming to your for coping advice soon. My boyfriend and I (of 2 and a half years) are really on the rocks, and though I wish it weren't so, I think it's not going to last much longer. Right now we are wonderful, but it's on the last thread... He unfacebooked me and tells most people we aren't really together. I know I'm going to miss him terribly, but I think it will soon be time to let him go. We were so serious, and it's still wierd to think of life without him, we planned out so much, and it's terrifying to have that crash down. Right now, I'm kind of OK with it, but know that I'm going to get really lonely. He'll probably move out August 26th, when dorms open... 3 days before my birthday, awesome.... My goal on getting through this is to come out sane, stable, and hopefully stay on track with my wieght loss goals. Ha, last time I got upset about something, I put on a ton of wieght, and I'd rather not have a repeat preformance.... Wow, that was long.... Anyway, hope everyone is having a great weekend and staying healthy. |

Stef- As for being sick, not sure if they actually work, but I swear by the Airborne tablets when I feel a cold coming on, those and about 9 hours of sleep a night :) Hope you feel better soon And kate, Good luck in the competition! And I'm in the same boat on the pills, I'm thinking about getting something short-term and ephedra free to put me back on track, I hear the Mega-t ones are fairly harmless and work well, but I've never tried them. I'd be really curious about how cylaris works out, let me know! Here it's 103 degrees... So inside workouts for me this week... So girls who go to the gym a lot, what do you do to keep from getting bored? I'm starting to get sick of a treadmill :) |

| I get like that too! Everytime I have a really good week calorie-wise, I'm close to your range, I feel like I have constant PMS. I'm so moody, and I guess it's just something I have to deal with. I haven't found any good solutions yet, but it helps a lot to keep on a regular workout schedule. I had one week where I was sick (so not working out), and sticking to my diet, and I was the moodiest I have ever been.... And also, keep rewarding yourself for staying on your diet, like every 5 pounds, buy yourself something nice, or go to a movie you want to see. At least for me that helps me from biting people's heads off, knowing that I have new cute shoes... Ha, if you come up with a good solution, message me, but I know what you mean, good luck! |

| I should be in this group! OK, so I was really good for the beginning of the summer, fell off at the end, and I'm going back to school (I'm old, for my last college year!) the end of this month. I think right now I'm 5'3'' around 124, and I want to lose about 9 more pounds. I have been really bad about working out recently, but on good weeks, I usually can fit in 45 minutes of cardio 5 days a week, and 4 30 min strength training. Please motivate me! I want to have a great week and a half before school starts, so I'll be checking in a lot for support. :) Let's go college girls! |

| playergirl- I liked the sidebends a lot, I think I'm going to add them to the end of my ab workout. It seems like a really nice move to just push a bit further after a bunch of crunches. Inspiring person: One of my good friends from home, Lonzo A few months ago, she joined diet.com and started a video blog about her journey. She put everything on the table. Her up front honesty helped me admit to myself that I really did want to lose weight proactively, instead of standing around and waiting for it to come off and the get upset when that doesn't happen. She has a blog at diet.com, she's still working toward her goal, but with all the stuff she has to do, she's so busy, I know that if she can stick to a healthy plan, I can do it too. |

| Yay! Coco comes back (I like that quotation too)! But I still really like the idea of expanding the challenges when people feel inspired. That way, we can all get great tips from each other on the best things we have learned. (my random tip, imaginary challenge, carry a litre water bottle with you throughout the day, and keep refilling it, each time you finish a bottle, it's four servings of water! After a while, it's just habit you can start counting water in litres then converting to ounces) nycgirl- awesome about the race! I could do that with you, I think I could definitely do a 5K (slowly though), and I can try and sign up for one around the same time. I can give you what little basic advice I have, I've been running for a while, but not really following a set plan, just trying to increase my mileage (which is working, yay!) playergirl- I'm determined to try those side bends tonight! Thanks! |

| Yay! I did it! (Though on a treadmill) I haven't run that long in a while! And you're right, I fished my old saucony's out of my closet and discovered they have more support than my light-weight rykas. SO the best news is, I ran the six miles, and if I stretch enough, I can still go out dancing with my boyfriend tonight! Wahoo! Thanks for all the advice! I can't wait for fall so it gets cooler! |

| Ann- Congrats on your 15 mile run! that's awesome! do you usually run outside or on a treadmill? I'm curious, and what do you do to make sure you don't get hurt? I'm working my way up, I could probably do about 6 miles now at a fairly slow pace (I always alternate my workout activities, but I guess I'll put that theory to the test tonight, I get so bored on the treadmill, but I'm afraid if I run outside, I'll get shin splints.... ) So I guess what Im trying to ask is, when your ankles start hurting from the impact (do they?) what do you do to get better? And Sherry- I LOVE FIBER ONE! (wierd obsession, I know, if you go to hungry-girl.com, she does too, you can even used it for pie crust and to bread chicken strips, you can sneak it in so many places) |

| floatytoes- Low calorie breads, pepperidge farm light breads are great, 130 calories, for 3 slices! That's about 45 calories a slice, which is great for sandwhiches. They have oat, wheat, and seven grain, yum. Thanks for the yogurt tip, trying to see if they carry it around here. Today, I've done well with eating, lacking protein a bit, but ok. I'm going to head to the gym soon and try and get in an hour of cardio! (that's my goal anyway) See you guys tomorrow, it's gonna be friday! |

| ha, I'm almost in the exact same spot misskthpriss.... the end of monday, and most of tuesday, I just lost track of my calories. And I didn't get to work out the past few days either, it was terrible. I finally got to the gym, and I've been feeling terrible for the past few days, and it made me feel a ton better. I was afraid I was getting sick, and freaking out about stuff I had to do at work. But I'm back, and I feel better, hope everyone is keeping up with exercise. It's hard to tell how much better it makes you feel until you stop... now I know! | |||

On the plus side, wearing shorts that haven't fit me since high school today, big meeting soon, have a great day everyone! |

| arnoldn5- I do that with pretzels too (and cereal...) And as for the other thing, I did a lot of reading on the posts about expenditures and deficits. When I calculate my calorie deficit for the day, I usually plug my activities into the activity log and have my normal routine at sedentary, that way it calculates your expenditure automatically and accurately, without all the numbers. But in case your curious, the formula: if you use calories burned doing nothing + cals burn exercising, you overestimate, but not by too much. For example, say you burn 1639/day normal calorie expenditure. Then say you work out, walk for 100 minutes burning 588 calories. If you just add them together, you overestimate the daily expenditure by 113. This is because your normal calorie expenditure takes the number of calories you burn per minute in the day at rest, then multiplies it by the number of the minutes in a day. If you add your workout to this, then you are essentially double counting some time, once for rest, and again for your workout. I know it's not that much of a difference, but hey! I'm a math dork sometimes, I love numbers! Anyways, since the whole 3,500 cal deficit adds up to a pound lost is not really working in reality for me, I started staggering my deficits weekly, trying to trick my body, I'll let you guys know how it goes, haha, for me c-c is like one long experiment on me... Also, I got Pilates for dummies, it's a good introduction, it gets a bit slow after a few times, I suggest renting it to see if you like Pilates in general though, but maybe not buying it. Wow, that was so long! Sorry guys, hope everyone had a healthy day! And weekend coming up.. good luck everyone! |

Phew! Thanks for responses about the feeling a bit self-conscious thing, I thought I was going crazy :-) Feeling better about things today, especially reflecting on how far I have come. Since I gained a bunch of weight, and hit my highest of about 142, I've lost about 18 pounds, and I can definitely see the difference in some of my pictures from last Christmas break (there are a ton of really cute ones with me and my boyfriend, that would be so much cutter if my face wasn't so wierd looking to me...) And eveyone is writing about fitting into smaller sizes, that is fantastic Ann, Flo, and wow, pretty much all of us! Jess- As for workouts, I stated Pilates a few weeks ago, but haven't really done them since I got back from vacation, just got the videos, and they are really hard, but really seem to strengthen my abs and muscles, it's a nice break from strength training with weights. Yesterday was the first day back that I didn't make it to the gym, but I was walking around for most of the day, so I think I'll be ok, and my legs were really sore anyway. Flo, I know you were talking a while back that you have one off day and it carries. I'm about to do that now.. Yesterday I was doing really well until dinner, and then dinner happened, too much cheese, and too much pudding, and then drinks, it's been a while, and alcohol, so many calories... But anyway, I woke up today, and had way too much for breakfast, and actually just had a brownie after lunch. Downward spiral! BUT I'm stopping right now! I'm going to hit the gym, get away from my desk, and go work somewhere where there is not so much food! Healthy dinner tonight, grilled fish, vegetables, and salsa, and some yogurt for dessert. I'll be back later tonight to let you guys know how it goes, determined to set it right! About 4 days till next weigh in, and I want to push the scale down again by then. It seems the middle of the week is the hardest, we can do it! ..... edit late- I did ok! A few over my cals, but worked out today, so it was ok! Wahoo! |

| Happy 4th of July! (ah! chips and burgers everywhere! it's going to be a challenge avoiding all that, good luck to us all!) Thanks for the input on sizes, and good points, fabric cuts and different brands are just too different, I'm being paranoid! Laura, that's interesting about the vanity size thing, I never knew that, and Susannah's story about sizes seems to just support that idea, that's crazy! And Ann, juniors sizes are definitely smaller, at least that part about clothes is somewhat consistent. Did anyone else feel like mid-dieting, they were more self-conscious than when they started? I mean I know I'm losing weight, and I look better than when I stated, but it's like since I actually acknowledged that I felt a bit unhappy with my shape, now I have to confront all my flaws at once. It's a little overwhelming, but I'm sure it's just temporary, I'll get re-comfortable again :-) Flo- Best of luck at the party, if it's any motivation, know that all of us will be facing the same temptations, but we can get through today! You're right too, the feeling afterwards, it's just not worth it at all... I usually overeat most frequently when I get stressed out, which makes me more stressed out, and hurts, that feeling is awful! Ann- Wait to get to the gym early today! Glad you found your keys too, I'm so impressed that you can stay healthy (and even train for a marathon!) while leading such a hectic life, it's amazing! |

| How is everyone's week going so far? The question of the day, if you feel up to it, I was reading some of the post boards talking about what size at what weight, and I'm curious, what clothing size do you usually wear? It seemed to me that on the boards people around our height weighed more, but wore smaller sizes than me... (which was sort of a downer) But on the plus side, I did fit into that Old Navy 4, though I think they run big, about a week ago, it'd be nice to fit into my previously favorite pair of jeans... size 4 also, but still way too small... On a more optimistic note, I worked out today for an hour of really light cardio, even though it was slow paced, it felt really great to log that much workout time! :-) Hope everyone has an amazingly healthy day! Drink water, it's hot outside! |

Coco, this is such a great idea, I love the focus of the challenge, more on good healthy habits! I have a question though, I have heard that drinking too much water is dangerous, how much is too much? And can we set a daily cap on water at that level just to be safer? I can do some more fact checking on too much water, and what level is pushing it, I'll let you know. .... ok, I think I was worried about nothing, according to About.com "The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to intaking an enormous volume at one time." http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterinto x.htm this one is also good http://www.ivillage.co.uk/health/hlive/eat/ar ticles/0,,181168_588681,00.html Just in case anyone else was paranoid like me :) |

| Flo- It's ok, just start a new! Clean slates, it's the first, just don't get too angry at yourself, I did that last week, then just ended up binging for more days. But on the plus side, I love your new attitude about it, ok, it was bad, but now you have such determination to push through. Remember that feeling you have and come back to read the post often, that always can help remind you. Hope tennis was fun, and I'm jealous of your weather, it's raining here... Because of the rain I had to work out inside, but I took a tip from Sherry and got my workout done first thing today. Have a great rest of the weekend everyone! |
