I just joined a moderate to intense water aerobic class and love it!  The time flies by and I can feel an all body workout.

We have a public pool and I joined there for $13 a month.

Fitness does swimming really burn that many calories? Jun 10 2009

I just started swimming yesterday.  I am a hiker and though I truly enjoy hiking I wanted a workout for my whole body.

I took a water aerobic class.  Afterwards I still felt energetic and swam laps for 10 mins and ran for 5 mins.

The place I go to has this river area they built with a current and I ran against the current.

I too am hooked on water exercising!

1st wk  194  up .5

2nd wk  196  up 2lb

I am so upset everyone!  All winter I have maintained and now that I joined a challenge I am gaining.  I don't think I am gaining muscle.  This week I walked 3 hours and did 1 hour of weights and counted cals.  I have eaten salmon 2x and added salads to our dinner.

Usually I would drop out due to embaressment but this time I will stay with it.  Even though I am so upset!  : (

Weight Loss The cost of food... eat healthy cost a lot. It is really hard for me to purchase healthy food... any one else in this situation? Jan 23 2008

I hear ya on cost of healty foods.  I found that switching from Kashi Go lean cereal that is almost $5 a box to Oatmeal that is around $3.50 and last longer helps.  I buy frozen blueberries and chop up apples and it is a cheap healthy breakfast.  I love Buffallo burger and it is pricey so I eat it just a few times a week.  I also shop the sales.  If fresh pineapple is the sale that is what I get.  You can check online now at the stores you like to shop and see what the sales are.  Good luck!!!

Your plan sounds good.  A day of rest is important.  Also, you may want to make sure your workout routine is not the same everyday.  Have fun!
Fitness Should I do cardio only until I get to my goal weight? Jan 11 2008

From what I have learned you want to do cardio 4 to 7 times a week and strenght training 2 times a week.  Cardio is something you want to do always ,even when you are at the weight you want.  It is good to keep your heart strong, blood pressure down and blood sugars level.

Ohio45 I hear you.  I too love to hike alone.  The young lady who was just murdered did have a dog with her.  I had a scare 2 summers ago and was followed down the mountain.  I was sliding on my butt because I was hurrying to fast down the steep trail.  I was terrified.  I still hike alone.  But after that scare it did take many weeks before I would hike again.    Someone always knows when I go and I carry pepperspray now.  I also try to listen to my gut feeling too.  If I feel weird even for no logical reason I cut my hike short.  Also, you could wear a whistle and carry a cell phone.

Funny now but at the time worst!

I was fast walking thru the neighborhood last summer and I went to turn down a street when I saw all these huge ravens squacking.  So, I decided to turn down the next street instead.  Well one of the ravens saw me and started to swoop and chase me.  Before I know it I am running and swinging my arms while 3 ravens dive bomb me.  I am screaming and people on bikes are passing me.  The ravens are just focused on me.  So I run onto someones front porch, my heart is absolutley racing!  The ravens sit in the trees and wait for me...so, I figure the homeowner is going to wonder what the hell am I doing on there porch and I try to walk away calmly,  Noooo...the chase is back on!  Finally after turning down several streets a girl and her dog approach.  I am running towards her telling her HELP I am being chased when the darn things stop there chase and fly away.  Well, it left me paranoid for while and I stopped walking that part of the neighborhood!  LOL  (Didn't the ravens know I go by julieraven?  LOL)

Still have 40 or so to lose.  Have taken it slow and this summers fire season I stopped hiking and have been just maintaining since then.  As of the new year I am back to focusing on weight loss.  My mindset is fine with it being slow and steady.

Splenda leaves me exhausted everytime.  I just can't use it.  When ever I have low energy I start looking at labels to see if splenda is in something I didn't realise.  I hope you aren't cutting cals below 1200.  Are you eating enough cals?

Sometimes I think people are trying to help out when they make comments about what you are eating and don't realize how it comes off.  Sometimes my bf will say should you be eating that and I tell him I know how many more calories I have to eat for the day and this is fine.

Other times I think people just want to ease there own bad eating habits and hope to see you fail.  Who knows?!
Weight Loss Do you plan your meals? Dec 07 2007

I make a menu plan for the week and then shop for those items.  In the morning I log what foods I plan to eat for day and that way I already know if I have the calories for that extra cookie or whatever....it helps me a lot to do it that way.

I can relate too.  But, everytime I see my family they are just so damn happy to have me home that they never mention the weight difference.  Last time I saw my folks the first thing my dad said was "Your looking good kid!"  I was heavier than before.

I bet your family is so excited about you coming home and the last thing they are thinking about is your weight.  Don't worry and have a great time!!!!

P.S.  I am envious and wish I was going home for the holidays!

I did that last week.  Isn't it great when life offers us a workout.  In the winter I find it hard to workout and use shovelling snow as an opportunity to exercise.  We had a heavy wet snow and lost some trees too.  My next workout it cut and hauling the trees.

Happy winter!  Julie

Big hug to you sweetie!

When you reintroduce food to your system you want to go gentle.  I think some oatmeal would be a good start.  Soft, bland foods.  Also, I really think it would be best to talk to a doctor about what you are going thru.  You will find support here, you are not alone!

Weight Loss frame size Nov 21 2007

Hi Judy, I was taught this for frame size....take your index finger and thumb and wrap around your wrist, if it overlaps you are small, the finger and thumb touch you are med, and if they don't reach large.  But, what I don't understand is if you have a lot of fat around your wrist you could think you were large framed.

townes would mom be open to you doing daily food logs for her.  Maybe showing her what a serving is.  Letting her know a serving of meat is a deck of cards...stuff like that.  You can tell you are sincerely concerned.  If you walk her thru articles about eating enough, eating often....one day she may be able to automatically do it herself with out you having to assist her.  You become her personel trainer or coach, something like that.

Wow, I think we are all having an honest dialog and I do not feel like folks are being judgemental but trying to be encouranging.

Each one of us has our own reasons for being heavy and it is a real problem here in the states.  For myself it has really helped me to look at WHY am I heavy.  Now that I understand the why I can truly start my journey.

To jump on Udo for the bike comment doesn't seem productive.  He is talking about people having excuses for the weight instead of being proactive.

It seems like in this dialog Udo explained his comment and it just doesn't come off as if he is judging.

My comment on noticing peoples junk food in there shopping carts is because now that I am focusing on what I put in my body I have started noticing others food choices.  I think this is normal.  My mom has reached her goal weight thru CC and is no longer type 2 diabetic.  I asked her if she has found herself noticing other peoples food choices and she has.

So, if we openly share what we are experiencing on this journey is it really productive to be called judgemental.

Just my opinion....

It is hard in the winter.  I am struggling to get back to a routine.  Even though it is cold try to get some walking in.  Maybe a gym for the winter months will help.  You can do push ups, sit ups and fee weights without bothering the babies.  Maybe a good focus on that stuff and a few days of walking to work.  Good luck!
