Thank you all for your advice! That book sounds hilarious! It definitely makes sense. And as far as not eating food my great grandmother won't recognize...I will make sure to use good judgement and not have any prejudice against kiwis or other "foreign" fruits or veggies! I just bought a book on amazon...The Eat Clean Diet Book and The Eat Clean Diet Cook Book. Both were under $20 in total and hopefully helpful. Thanks so much everyone for your help! I'm going food shopping this morning...wish me luck! |

I'm having seitan with an easy gravy. Easy Gravy only has a few ingredients...
1 cup veg broth 2 tbsp soy sauce 2 tbsp cornstarch 2 tbsp nutritional yeast Combine veg broth and soy sauce and slowly stir in cornstarch until gravy becomes thick. Then add nutritional yeast. Easy, right? The above mentioned also sounds good. :) |

I recently bought Vegan Express from Borders and I have been using it pretty much everyday! The portions are for a family of 5 or 6, so you can half the recipes and save the leftovers for later in the week. That's what I do and it seem to work. Oh, and there is a nutritional breakdown of each recipe (a definite plus).
Good luck! |

sophiecore- i definitely have to cut out the alcohol. it will be tough because i feel like my social life is dependent on it, meaning that my friends always ask to go out for drinks or happy hour. queenmedia- you are right. i know what i should be doing but i guess i need someone else to tell me they have been there and that they have changed for the better. congratulations on your success thus far! losing six lbs is a fantastic achievement! keep it up! :o) gijane- there is nothing that i love more than cooking. i am sure that if i manage my time a little bit better, even with the hectic schedule, i will be able to cook a few extra times during the week. today is the first day of a new me. wish me luck! thanks! |

lexabear: Thanks for the info. I definitely need to do more research. I agree about feeling lethargic when consuming animal products. Like I said before...I need to come up with better alternatives. I have cookbooks and I know there are websites out there that will help. I just need to find healthy alternatives other than soy. Any tips are appreciated. |

disease_of_ease: Congratulations, you have earned yourself a dollar. I know we aren't required to have as much protein as most Americans consume on a meat-based diet. I am actually more concerned about how much other crap I eat on my veg diet. There are way too many things out there that are vegetarian and complete junk. My schedule is super hectic right now until the beginning of May so I need to come up with good, healthy options that are filling. The more I talk about this, the more I feel like a smacked ass. |

| Hey, thanks for the feedback! I am doing this with a friend so I am trying to get training tips from her as well. I will let you know if anything useful comes up. I was also looking through various posts on here and there are some good tips that people have been putting up. You kind of have to search for them. I was supposed to do a 5k last year but then something crazy happened with the arch of my foot preventing me to do so. I definitely jumped into training way too quickly and progressed much sooner than I should.
Best of luck with your 5k! Ohh and Happy New Year. :o) |

| i have considered speaking to someone about it. well, not just that...all of my issues in general. if i don't sort the things out that are contributing to the emotional eating, i will never ever conquer it.
thanks so much everyone for you feedback. it's very much appreciated. :o) |

| I am a 23 yr old female. My weight as of today is 149. I am 5'9 and usually 145. I want to be about 135. I have a small frame and was that weight a couple of years back...it worked for me.
There is not a doubt in my mind that I am an emotional eater. I will eat when I am stressed (more than likely happens when I am doing school work), sad/depressed, lonely, and bored. I know all of the things that you are supposed to do when you are feeling this way...but that doesn't stop me from continuing to allow myself to wreak havoc on my body and health. Not to metion what this is doing to me mentally. I am extremely logical in every other aspect of my life, but when it comes to weight I freak. |

| Dear Body,
After all of life's ups and downs last year, I have surely mistreated you more than anything else in my life. I have taken you for granted and realize now that without you, I would cease to exist. I am sorry for not always treating you well, for disrespcting you and abusing you. I promise you that you will surely get the treatment that you deserve. Thank you for always being there and pulling through when I thought that I couldn't. Thank you for allowing me to keep my legs going even though I thought they would surely give out when I run sprints on an incline. Thank you, lungs for allowing oxygen to flow through you allowing me to breathe with every move I make. From this day forth, I will no long abuse you. You will get the treatment that you deserve in every regard. I will no longer tell you that you aren't good enough or pick apart your every flaw. You will get the respect that you deserve. With Love, Rachel |

| Weight Loss | Out of Control Bingeing--- 3 days and counting! Someone help, please!! | Oct 18 2007 14:52 (UTC) |

| Depending on how much I exercise that day I usually consume about 1500-1700. Gosh, that really does sound like a lot. I had a complimentary personal training session at the gym I go to and the trainer told me to eat 2000 cals. My maintenance cals for light activity are around 2000. If I wanted to maintain my weight, sure I would eat that much but until then there is absolutely no way. I woud say if you are moderately active you could probably eat around the same (1500 cals). I personally think that 1200 is way low for a woman of our height and weight. Calories are super confusing! | |||

| I am so glad that someone else in the world has gone through that vicious binging cycle and lives to tell about it. I am 5'9 and around 148. My weight fluctuates every single week...mostly because I somehow manage to binge one or two days out of the week. The best thing to do is to not leave yourself feeling deprived. Living on a very restricted diet will only leave you craving foods that you aren't allowed to have even more. A trick that works for me is to save some cals and have something you really love. I wouldn't recommend anything more than 200 cals, but you can leave it pretty open. If you exercise throughout the week a treat shouldn't really be a problem. If you are like me and need to have more you simply must walk away. A trick that I have realized works is chewing sugar free gum. If you don't like that try drinking a glass of water. The most important thing is to not deprive yourself and to walk away when you feel like you can lose control.
As for the whole feeling prettier because you are slimmer, I can relate. It's definitely a mental thing. It's simply a matter of feeling and looking good. When you look good you feel good. Honestly I think around 140 is perfect for your height. I wouldn't set a goal any lower than that. |

| i have a vegetarian cook book. i wish i would use it more. it usually calls for a lot of different ingredients, and they can be pretty pricey!
thanks so much everyone for the feedback! i will take everything into consideration and hopefully come up with some better ideas to have a well balanced vegetarian diet. if it doesn't work, i will just ask my trainer to come up with something. |

| Okay, so maybe 2000 calories isn't so bad. I usually burn about 600 calories per workout.
I guess I am getting a little ahead of myself because I just started the new workout routine. I'm impatient. Also, I am curious to know if anyone knows of healthy vegetarian meals that will help me reach my daily caloric intake. I am so sick of veggie burgers and salad! I mean that isn't all that I consume but it is definitely a major part of my diet. |
