| Motivation | 5'6 (225 pounds) Geek looking for motivation | Jan 09 2009 18:08 (UTC) |

I'm a geek as well with the same problem. I'm an animation major and after a semester of sitting at a desk and drawing literally hundreds of pictures, I gained 20 pounds. It sucks. The one thing thats getting me back on track is WII FIT!!! No joke, it is awesome and it motivates you and it all about getting points. nothin gets a geek going like gaining experience points and leveling up. |

Any body have any experience with hiphop abs or any videos like that? I'm thinkin of trying one, i could use some dance skills. |

keep in mind your weight training. It's probably all muscle mass. i'm suprized your MD recommended 120 lbs for someone as tall as you, but I take your word for it on the small frame thing. your probably mostly muscle, you should get your fat % percent done. It's when they measure your arm with that claw looking thing, :P (probably didn't describe it well) but I bet you have very low body fat. |

dude it sounds like your super motivated, awesome. The only thing I have to say about your vigorous routine is PROTECT YOUR KNEES. I also started out vigorously, I'm the type of person that just can't ease into things (i'm the type that has to jump into the icy cold water instead of easing in) and the big mistake i made is not stretching and running on concrete. Now i gotta wear these lame knee braces when i jog, and I was only 150 at 5'7" when it happened. my poor poor knees. I feel like forest gump lol. |

I took diet pills a few year ago. I got diarreah and I would pass out when I pooped. Kinda funny in retrospect but believe me, not worth the trouble. The little weight I did loose was probably from crapping so much. The diet pill that does work=> The placebo. My mom does stats for a hospital, she said in alot of new drug studies (including diet pills etc.) the Placebo effect can be as strong as the the real thing. Just take some green tea supplement and "believe" it will work. |

skinnylea, if you are 5'll and 126 you ARE skinny. You're about to have 6 more posts telling you so too. To be honest, I think you know you really have a problem, otherwise you wouldn't have posted in the ED recovery thread. I told myself the same thing though. I thought I didn't really have a problem cuz i was too fat to have an ED. But just because you haven't hit rock bottom doesn't mean you're not suffering. I'm glad you came to talk to some people about it, this a good thread with helpful people so good luck. |

I've had them since i was young too even before I lost weight, and had them when I was about your age. and on my hips. I heard hormones can affect weather or not you get them but i don't know for sure. anyway, I'm just a 34C and I stil got 'em. I think it's because they grew so fast. I had a training bra at the end of 5th grade and a 36B at the start of 6th grade. it was a little awkward. Here's some good news, They've faded alot and are barely noticable now that i'm 21. Your's will fade too probably |

To Subwaybusker - Of course Asians are welcome ^_^! This forum is for community of all ethinc memebers, who have traditionally different diets and body types, so they can talk to other members with the same issues. I knew a girl from japan who had a hard time with her diet in america, she said she was afraid to go back to japan and have all her friends tell her she got fat. poor girl. btw my Boyfriend is Filipino, of course he's one of those skinny guys that eats a whole cow everyday and never gains *jealous what's up with that? Filipino food is also one of those higher calorie ethnic foods i think.

Oh yeah, and here's food for thought... Someone had mentioned the black obesity epidemic. I've seen reports on the news that claim blacks and latinos are genetically more likely to become obese (it was on cnn i think) do you think its true? Or do you think it more to do with cultural lifestyles foods? |

I'm so glad everybody diggs my post ^_^ and by the way, fat2fit77, Its all about the name brand when it comes to pants. When I lose weight my waist gets smaller than my hips, but, thighs so I know what your talkin about. My fav jeans are apple bottoms. I don't even like Nelly but this brand fits curves very well. expensive so get deals at ross or tj maxx. Keep trying on different brands, even in stores you wouldn't normally shop at. And to all the light skinned ladies with the booties... go head on girl! work it out! |

| yeah college got me too. fortunately after the first two weeks, i was to poor to eat on campus or fast food. I was getting rice and veggies from a cheap asian market. Try going semi-vegetarian and no french fries. That really helped me get back on track. | |||

I've got really weird eating schedules myself, and on top of that, when I get hungry, I get HUNGRY! like headaches and wanting to faint just from not eating within 3 hrs. For me caffine is what do. Tea or a latte or white mocha. Not the healthiest solution but it kills hunger until the real meal. |

| I'm no expert either but I heard a woman at my job said she had a hard time concieving when she was dieting, but she was no expert either. my opinion is there's no point in dieting that much if your having a baby. |

in my dorm i kept a gigantic box of apples. They are awesome, they taste good, require no prep, and you don't have to refrigerate. Plus they fit in your purse. I ate them like crazy. also, ad avacado to stuff. I don't know why there aren't more threads recomemending avacado. Its the california miracle fruit as far as i'm concerned. Its got the right kinds of oils, good in cals and nutrition, and its good for your skin and hair.

yeah, canned stuff isn't that great for you with all the sodium and what not. produce can be pricey. I a poor student to, I ate pb&j, rice and chicken (if you can afford meat, chicken is pretty cheap). Also, keep in mind where you shop. big grocery stores and convient stores can be over priced. Look for places like, wincos, foodmax, etc or if you can, try an asian or mexican market. they're cheap too. |

yeah, i do notice that the posts get repetitive, but when all you do all day, with every waking moment of your being is think about the .035 lbs you might gain if you eat that extra cracker, it's easy to freak out, even if you know the answer. I think those posters are looking for reassurance more than they are answers. |

you can actually get the exacty info on the starbucks website. I think it's starbucks.com, they give the amount with all different sizes, milk types etc. I'm guess 280ish off the top of my head, i used to work there, but i don't remember for a fact. i'm sure seatle's best has a website with that info too. |

its okay, I have a mad sugar addiction too. Its a hard food to quit. I'm in the same boat, i do good all day until i go crazy on my brother's left over oreos just before i go to bed. Here's a neat fact, your taste buds have a memory of 2 weeks. If you can cut down your sugar for just that time, you cravings will decrease dramatically and foods that didn't taste sweet before will. That can be tough, you might wanna try sugarfree candy to get you started. You wont' wanna binge on that though trust me, it tastes good but eat alot and you get nasty diarreah. |

Relapses are tough, but don't let it make you feel like you've ruined your chances. Try to get a good nights sleep and know that you can start again in the morning. and remember, every time you slip and eat a cookie, doesn't mean your ruined for the whole day, just try not to eat another one. instead, drink some water and do a couple sit ups that night to help you feel better about it. you'll get it right, just don't stop trying! |

as a bigger person with skinny friends... dont' take to personal. I've felt some resentment toward skinny friends before without meaning to. its like how a person who lost their legs doesn't want to here you complain about stubbing your toe (lol, i know that's an extreme example) Try using a different term with your bigger friends like instead of saying "i need to lose some fat" say "I want to build endurance and tone up" or something, if you want to avoid the drama. |

anazandra, you look great, please don't try to loose anymore weight, even for your height, it could be the start of bad habits.
And for those "normal dieters" complaining about he "anorexic girls". Keep in mind that this is a problem most of its sufferers have to deal with alone. If someone has diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. It's easy to tell a doctor. Its just a disease. But an eating disorder has alot of stigma connected to it. Alot of us feel an intense sense of shame, or we tend to convince ourselves there's no problem at all, so we don't tell anyone. This is place where we can talk. Forgive the few that tend to call out for attention, becuase that too is a symptom of many eating disorders. in short, diabetes is physical problem alone. eating disorders are both physical and mental disorders, and are connected to other serious mood disorders like depression. There is a 10-18% mortality rate. forgive us if we're whiny, 75% of sufferers have depression or anxiety on their resumes. |

Super cute prom dress, btw. You don't look that different from me in your 155 pic. It's hard for me to imagine loosing that much, it mustive been a rough journey. I'm glad your on the way to finding a healthy in between though. You definately don't look too healthy in the recent pic, but you already know that. I hope you don't look at the old picture and think bad thoughts. do you have anypics of you at your goal weight? that would be more encouraging. I actually cut up and burned any pictures i had of myself when i weighed more. |

I agree with being around people. I did it all through highschool and now it happens very rarely so I"m doing really well. Make sure your around supportive people. In highschool I was around, shall we say, shallow friends. who did nothing but sit around the lunch table all day and criticize others. Not the type of people to make you feel secure about yourself. Just remember, its not the food that you hate. Its the way you feel, and thats the first thing you have to work on changing. |
