| day 4 has been hard so far. I have a box of rainbow nerds leftover from before I declared myself binge-free. I have been eating a tablespoon of them per day, which is 60 calories. Today, however, I just kept going back to the box, like i needed more. I am considering giving the rest of the box to my boyfriend so i can get it out of my house. Ugh. I need to eat a non-existent dinner so I can maintain my daily goal. Luckily, I worked out hard today. Other than that, I am pretty pissed at myself! And it's only 5:30! jennylaw - hot tea works for me really well. It definitely curbs my hunger when I am craving something sweet. At restaurants I order it before the meal so I can eat less for the meal. i vowed to stop drinking coffee so I switched to hot tea awhile ago. I realized I didn't need the caffeine so much anymore (since most of the teas I love are naturally decaffeinated). You really should try it! Go to Teavana or a tea chain similar to that and try some flavors out! |

| Hi Everyone!
Today is my day one! It is 9:30 right now and i've had 1330 cals and I do not plan to binge tonight (like I usually do) I am so glad that this thread is here so we can help each other fight that oh so tempting urge to binge. So tomorrow, when it gets hard and I want to binge on bad things, I will think to myself, "I didn't binge yesterday, so that means I can do it again today." I hope so...wish me luck! Good luck to you all as well! I truly believe we can get thru this! |

| So I've been thinking a lot today and the past couple of days about my body image and my attitude towards myself, etc. And how to stay motivated. I realized that gi-jane was spot-on. I need to do this not for the number on the scale, but for my health and overall well-being. This past week I have been really thinking about what I eat and why I should take care of my body, etc. And I concluded that I haven't felt THIS GOOD mind, body and everything ELSE in a long time. This is such a good feeling. I was thinking of ways I can keep these good feelings up and to keep motivated and I started to make a list entitled "Why I should keep this healthy lifestyle!" (it's a working title!) I started to list things like: "My mind is clearer and more at peace when I take care of myself" "I am much more at ease knowing where my dinner came from when I make it myself than when I just run thru some fast food place for my convenience" "I feel MUCH more productive spending an hour outside walking with a friend than an hour surfing PerezHilton.com" "It is a lot more fun to savor my meal and taste every bite of my food than to barrel thru my meal (It's not a contest!!!!)" ....Stuff like that!!! I just started it and I feel even better already. These are things that PERSONALLY motivate me and since it is written down in my handwriting I feel like it is really MINE. And since I am a VISUAL person, I can always look back on it. I think I am going to paste a picture of my self smiling and healthy-looking in the notebook so I can see that too!!! What do you guys think about this idea?? I am excited that it might actually work for me! Thanks for all the advice! Good luck everyone! |

| You are right clharr, I know you are. I know it is in my head. I really think that the society ideals of a PERFECT body affect my body image SO much and it is something I struggle with from time to time! Unfortunately, I am not the only one...I know so many girls who are like me and are overly critical of themselves when it comes to weight and appearance. | |||

| qwerty...i'm right there with you...I dont get this whole thing! All i know is that I carry the majority of my weight in my butt, thighs and hips, so I can WEAR the 4 or 2 in the waist, but the "legs" of the pants are filled out pretty well! Darn pear shape! | |||

| That is such a great suggestion - i honestly don't know any of those things about me, I just know that high cholesterol and high blood pressure are things that my parents have struggled with over the years. I really need to start thinking about the BIG picture, not just my weight! =) | |||

| Oh, yes, I definitely DO have bigger pants for those times! Thanks for the advice, but I think I actually do have a problem with "letting myself go". I do love myself and all of that jazz, it's just that when I start to feel like I am getting somewhere, I start to over indulge in really bad foods for me (on a every other day basis). I start to let the people around me that are not eating healthy influence me to eat that way too, I start to just lose sight of the REAL goal at hand: A healthier lifestyle. I really use that # goal as something tangible, something that will give me a visual motivation. | |||

| I totally understand what y'all are going through because I go through the same thing! A vast majority of my friends and people I have to associate with (for school, work) are the types that are naturally thin and can pretty much eat whatever they want, and NOT exercise. It's sooooo frustrating to me (that green eyed monster comes out every once in awhile, but that's a WHOLE other topic!) Or they just don't really care too much about their diet or going to workout.
So, I am usually the one who asks all the questions at a restaurant, declines treats at parties, says "no, I can't" when they want to share a plate of nachos at the movies, etc. And of course, they all make comments like "Rebecca, it's just a cookie, eat it!" or "Why are you so careful about what you eat, you work out," or "You get up THAT EARLY just to work out, are you CRAZY!?" I get embarrassed sometimes because I feel that they are thinking "What a health freak" or "Talk about obsessed" which usually doesn't get to me, since I know I live a healthy lifestyle, but it definitely GETS to me sometimes. One day I wish I could just get on my soapbox and educate these people that eating healthier and exercising leads to longer life, reduces heart disease, makes you feel better overall, etc. but I realize that being healthy is just not 'in vogue' these days. |

| Motivation | Already fall within a healthy BMI and looking to lose those last few pounds and/or get in shape? | Mar 22 2008 13:23 (UTC) |

| This is such a great idea! I just reset my goals: I am currently at a healthy BMI, 22.1. However, I want to go from 134 lbs. to 126 lbs. My goal date is May 17th, so please wish me luck, because I have had problems in the past... I have found my weight loss pattern to be work really hard and be dedicated for awhile, until I lose a little bit of weight, feel great about myself, THEN I start to cheat a little (with eating, not exercising). Then I cheat a little bit more, and finally, I forget about my goals and I'm back to where I started! This entire cycle lasts about 3-4 months, then I see a picture of me and realize I am not looking too 'fit' and then the cycle starts again. So this time, I really hope I follow through. I am glad that I found these forums to help motivate me, because Lord knows I need it. |

| Fitness | Does anyone else like working out ? | Mar 19 2008 22:19 (UTC) |

| Count me in as someone that loves working out and being active. It is the biggest stress reliever, it makes me feel accomplished and gives me a better boost of energy than any cup of coffee can. And it overall, makes me feel good about myself and life in general. I have found that varying up activities DEFINITELY keeps me interested long term, as opposed to the same machines, same routines everyday. | |||

| Oh and something that I have gotten into lately has been Pandora.com, a free internet radio site
It is really cool; you type in an artist you like. Then, it plays you a whole bunch of music in the style similar to the artist you like! It is an awesome tool for finding new music! =) |

| I have a BMR of 1430.6 (Just calculated that) - and I honestly have not been counting my calories as well as I should! So I really don't know for sure. How much of a difference should there be calorically btwn days I exercise and days I dont? I workout 6 days a week and even on my rest days, I at least walk around campus or the mall, etc. | |||

| I am so confused. I am 5'5", weigh 134lbs. and a size 2 (dress) and 4 (pants, shorts, skirts) And I am 24 years old. I lift weights and do a lot of cardio! Am I proportioned wrong? I feel like 134 is too high, but feel okay most of the time since I can still fit into those 2s and 4s. Some days I feel really good, like my body is at a great place, but then I weigh myself and think, "Why can't that # go down?" | |||
